Hello,

Was your email responded to? If I were you I’ll resend the email.

This shows your biometrics hasn’t been updated. It doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong, sometimes it takes time. But just to be sure, if your email wasn’t responded to, send a reminder.

All the best
Molly90:
Good day to everyone. Please I want to know if this profile looks normal. Application was submitted 8th of October and the biometrics was done last Tuesday just before Lagos state government declared the curfew. I was sent an email stating cancellation of appointments for that day. I called VFS to be sure I'm on track and I was told to email the Lagos immigration office which I have done. Please should I expect further update on the biometrics?

Hello Longjonjoe,

It’s a bit too early to say anything about the application, give it some time.

All the best

Hello guys, i love this page and it has taught me alot. Please I’m new here. I applied on the 7th of October and did my biometrics on the 9th of October where my application on the canada.ca shows on review and my biometrics has been recieved but since on the 9th, no other email or anything. Is that a good sign please?

Hello,
Sorry to hear about the refusal.

Is it just a diploma or a post graduate diploma?

To be honest, linguistics and journalism are not related if you look at it properly.

Your funds were also considered insufficient. How much did you submit? Who was the sponsor? Was any tuition paid? Seeing that the tuition is on the high side, you need to have a convincing reason why you’ll pay that much, when there are cheaper options in Nigeria

Biometrics but not done: August 25th
Refusal: September 10th
I applied for Winter Semester.
The moment I saw a notification, I knew it was a rejection. can't process within that range.
Ordered for the GCMS notes & hère is it.

Requested Date. 01/10/2020
Office Paris Text. Foss seen and integrated searches completed. Have today reviewed the file as well as the information and documents contained therein. Based on the documents provided, especially those relating to funds, reason for travel, family ties and previous trips, I am not convinced that RT reqs in good faith, that the funds are sufficient / sustainable for this study trip. . The cost seems to me disproportionate when I consider the nature of the previous studies, the economic situation (income and present assets) of the applicant and / or the immediate family and the employment prospects / potential wages. There does not appear to be a logical connection between the planned study program and the academic and professional background. I am not satisfied that she will be a bona fide student leaving Canada, if required, after an authorized stay. I am not satisfied that requesting a bona fide student under R179. File refused

Hello ayoadefantastic

Is the funding available for every year of the PhD?

You’ll need to get someone in her field to assist with a solid SOP. She needs to emphasize clearly how this PhD will be of benefit to her career in Nigeria.

Has she started building her own account? Even with funding, it’s advisable to show something in your account too.

ayoadefantastic:
Hello,

Pls kindly assist on how to address these concerns in a new application.

Profile:
BSc Agriculture, MSc, Botany, accepted for PhD Plant Science U of Alberta
Finished MSc in June 2020.

Hello charlyduru,

Has he completed his master’s? What field? Why MBA when he just finished master’s? That could be the reason for the “purpose of visit” denial.

Well errors could be made in applications.

But he wasn’t denied for 1 reason, so without the job reason, there would still be other reasons.

You should share the visa officers comment from the gcms notes for the house to see and analyze

He should repackage his application and refire
charlyduru:
Yes he is legally resided in Thailand, he is a student currently doing his masters just wants to go for a MBA in canada.
The notes say job opportunity in country of residence which is thailand. I still dont understand why they would think he wants to come back to thailand and not his home country nigeria and we stated explicilty in the SOP.

Sorry to hear about your refusal.

The Gcms note is quite straight forward.

You were refused based on financial ground. The visa officer was not convinced that you could raise the said amount you had in your first bank account. And you also didn’t provide enough documents to make him believe your mum’s business could help her accumulate such amount.

The visa officer suspects foul play that the money might not be available for your studies.

If you schools tuition refund is favorable you can pay a year tuition if you didn’t previously

And try to avoid lump sum deposit.

Provide more documents to show the source of your income. How you raised such amount considering your salary. And how your mum too raised such amount, maybe show more documents from her business. Transaction receipts for example.

All the best

Hello,

2. Going for undergraduate degree when you already have one might lead to a refusal except you have solid reasons, same with changing career. Yes there are scholarships available for undergrad

Do you have IT work experience? If you do, that could help. But just deciding to change because you want to is not enough.

Hello guys... My questions are...

1. I am a graduate of Botany and can't go for MSc because i don't have a 2.1, so which related courses can i get if i apply for a P Cert and what's the tuition range?

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your friend’s refusal.

But nothing here shows he was evaluated based on Thailand. Is he legally resident in Thailand? And did he attach documents to prove it?

The reasons he was given in the refusal letter are generic. To see the specific cause of his rejection, he needs to order his GCMS notes. To do that, just google “GCMS notes sites Canada” and he’ll see several websites you can order it from. It costs between $15-$20 cad and can take up to 35 days to be ready. If he has anyone in Canada ( citizen, permanent resident or temporary resident) to order it on his behalf it would cost $5 cad only. From the notes he’ll see the visa officer’s specific concerns and he’ll be able to address it before replying if he decides to reapply.

Before then he should share his profile (age, course applied for and level, course he’s doing now in Thailand, previous employment etc)

And the documents he submitted so people in the house can advise properly.

Best wishes

Hello,

The trv(visa) you’ll get cannot exceed the length of your passport. So if you submit a passport expiring February, the expiry date of the trv will be February, and this is not reasonable.

If you submit your application and the decision isn’t made in time, you can send a new LOA with a new start date. But please check with your school to know the deadline for a deferral so you don’t miss it.

I guess you can apply with this passport if you’re in a hurry and then send the data page of the new passport via webform and email once you get it.

Good day house,

I plan on submitting my visa application for winter 2021 this week though I am already behind with the timing and looking at the time lag for the VO to give a feedback I might not make the winter 2021 resumption date again.

My main concern is if using the LOA for winter 2021 term will affect if i will be granted a study permit since I am already behind. And if it won't affect and school has already resumed by the time my PPR drops(in faith) that means I will have to send a new LOA for Fall 2021 right? Or do I send the LOA for fall 2021 once I get it from the school before a decision is made on my application?

Secondly I just realised my international passport expires Feb 2021, I made plans to get a new one already but I am being given 2 weeks.
1. Can I still go ahead and use the passport number on this one that expires next year on my application and work on getting a new passport before PPR drops then I can send the new passport with a note.

2. Should I just wait till PPR drops then I send the one that will be expiring to them to affix the stamp? But my concern with this is if PPR doesn't drop before February, I can submit an already expired Passport by March or April na.

Please I need contributions on this as I am in a kind of dilemma right now.

Hello,

Your sponsor can send the living expense to your account. Minimum 10k cad. Sponsor should state he has done that in his letter of sponsorship. You should state it in your SOP and highlight the date, so it tallies with your bank statement. The transfer should carry sponsor’s name

The remaining amount in sponsor’s account after deducting your expenses should be substantial enough to take care of of sponsor and his needs. So sponsor’s account should be solid.

Unfortunately, other reasons of rejections can come up. You can avoid it by making sure you tighten every corner of your application.

Your situation has improved considerably.

State that you had no reason to travel until now. I have never seen travel history stand alone as a reason for refusal. If you tackle other ones well, you’re good to go.

You uncle can transfer your living expenses to your account. And make mention that he has done that in his Letter of sponsorship and that he’ll continue supporting you throughout your studies. You should also mention in your SOP that your uncle has transferred that to you on so so date and attach your bank statement. You can include an affidavit of support from a court done by your uncle if you want.

Bearing a surname is not enough proof. They want to be sure you have access to the person’s money. Sending your living expenses can help convince (minimum of 10,000 cad)

Stating that this uncle has been supporting you since is good but if there’s no proof, the visa officer can disregard it. If your uncle has ever sent a huge amount of money to you or something that shows he has ever supported you financially, you can attach that proof.

Best wishes
Glasses08:
Yes, I requested a gcms note. Here's the VO's point:

"No support for previous travel to assess as a positive. No support for personal income funds from a third party. Assessment of obligation is not practical. Not satisfied of provenance of and thus availability of funds to meet requirements of R216. After considering the applicants academic and professional history their financial situation as well as there planned studies and explanation provided for it, I am not satisfied that the applicant is a genuine student who who will pursue studies in Canada. The stated benefits of their intended studies does not seem to warrant the cost and difficulty of undergoing a foreign education. I am therefore not satisfied that the applicant will leave Canada at the end of the period authorised for their stay as required by R216(b). Refused."

I wasn't working as at then in 2018 because I just completed my NYSC and was still searching. However I have a good job now and reasonable amount in my savings. I have also completed my ICAN exams and qualified as a chartered accountant. I have also acquired a landed property in my name and also have a good pension fund so I hope those will address his other concerns. And I have fully explained those in my LOE. I have also worked better on my purpose of study and buttressed the point more in my LOE.

However, I wasn't really able to write valid points to address the travel history.

Then I am not so sure of the VO's concern about the proof of fund as my sponsor is my uncle who bears the same surname with me and my dad is late and my uncle has been the one sponsoring my education since I was in high school, I have also explained this in my LOE. Is there anything else you think the VO might want to see in this regard.

I will appreciate more suggestions from the house on how I can improve my chances.

Thanks

Hello biyilove

In my opinion, the course is okay. The level of the course might be the problem. 4 years, loads of money just to gain knowledge, when you already have a Bsc? If I were the visa officer, I won’t buy it. You should go for a masters since you have a 2.1, and in the worst case a PGD. That would make much sense. There is no problem with going with a new course and level. Go ahead. State how this course will benefit your career, why it makes sense to spend such a huge sum on the course and why you didn’t do the course in Nigeria because these courses are widely available here. You indicated you’ll take over your dad’s real estate business, will the course you’re going for equip you with the ability to take over? If no, please drop that line. Anything you want to put in your SOP, think about it and make sure it’s reasonable and logical.

Strategic marketing coms. Is it closely related to your work line? Sorry I’m not in the field so I don’t know. But looking at it from the outside it looks different to me. Make sure you’re picking the right course to avoid purpose of visit denial.

For employment ties, submit an employment proof, a letter of introduction, your pay slips of 3-4 months and a study leave letter. Since your work is in marketing, mention some things you have achieved during your job.

All the best

Hello Gurus & all Nairalanders
Would appreciate your help.

I submitted a study permit application for a Bsc in International Marketing at University of Manitoba. I have a previous Bsc. In Insurance (Graduated with 2:1) and i'm currently a Marketing and Sales Executive.

I indicated in my SOP that i picked International marketing because i wanted to understand marketing from an international perspective ,and another B.sc because Masters is advanced and i needed to understand the vital topics.
I also stated that I'd be taking over my father's business (Real Estate) upon the completion of my studies.

However,I got a refusal letter on 24th Sep 2020 on the following ground;
'I am not satisfied you will leave Canada at the end of your stay based on the purpose of your visit'.
Ordered gcmnotes which indicates proposed studies not a reasonable expense and accorded less weight to employment ties to my country of residence. Please find gcmnotes attached below.

I intend to reapply as i now have a Post Graduate admission to study Strategic Marketing Communications in Conestoga College.

I need help on how to tackle;
1. Proposed study as a reasonable expense. ( Will the PGC admission tackle this reason?) How can i prove the sudden change?
2. Employment ties. (I am employed. Submitted personal SOA).

Thank you so much for your time.

Hello Glasses08

May I ask if you requested a gcms notes for this application? If you didn’t, please request one immediately. The gcms notes will show the visa officer’s exact concern. The reasons in the refusal letters are usually generic.

Travel history on its own is not a big issue. Were there any other reasons given to you? If yes, please let the house know.

If you tackle all other reasons, you can just write a short explanation that you’ve not had any need to travel out of the country, that’s why there was no travel history.

From experience, travel history as a reason for refusal rarely stands alone. They just add it to other reasons. So you should aim at seeing the other reasons and solving them too. Not just the travel history.

Hello

The plain rule is that you should have your 1 year tuition fee + at least 10,000 cad for your 1 year living expense.

But they might expect you to show more money if you’re self sponsored.

For your baby you would need an additional 4,000 cad or 5,000 cad if the school is in Quebec.

It’s also not just about demonstrating the fund, you need to show the fund will continue to be available throughout your studies.

Hello,

You can stick to a business related course. As this is more recent. It could be said that you want to learn how to properly manage your business. Hope your salon/spa is registered with CAC? That would make it a lot better.

There’s no province with higher acceptance rate as far as I know. If you do your homework well and package your application well, you’ll get the visa.

All the applications will be on hold if the said DLI is not yet on the list. only those application who's DLI's are on the list will be prioritised and also advances to 2nd stage.

Reason why am assuming that its applicants whose DLI are on the COVID-19 readiness plan are the ones Updates on their application.

Hopefully all will turn out well for other expectant applicants

Honorable, I doubt it has anything to do with not getting a BVL. Applications are processed by different officers and affected by so many other factors, So BVL is not always according to when the application was submitted. AIP is already pointing in a positive direction. Your friend should keep calm and stay positive.

Please keep calm. 45 days is still within the normal processing time.

What do you mean by “no response”? Have you done biometrics? Has it been updated? What is showing on your GC account under eligibility review and background check?

If you wish you can order your gcms notes to see what has been done on your application. But you’ll still have to wait for about 35 days to receive that after ordering it.

Best wishes

@chocs, I am torn inbetween ordering my gcms notes or I should just wait it out, it’s being 45 days since my online application was submitted and still Canada hasn’t initiated any first response ... God take the wheel

Honorable, if she hides her masters and mentions it during PR application, wouldn’t it be a problem? I’m always for being as honest as possible.
Engager69:

Make it banking related because of your work experience, and I would advice you not to mention your initial masters. Doing that would not show career progression as the VO would expect you to go for a PHD since you already have a masters. Except you can explain without a doubt why the second masters would be of outmost important to you. But I advice you not to talk about your initial masters.
