Religion / Anambra Pastor Rejects N4m, SUV From Suspected Fraudsters by chrysora: 10:51am On Aug 05, 2019
An Anambra State-based pastor, Ejike Nwachukwu, has rejected N4m and a Sports Utility Vehicle offered him by two suspected Internet fraudsters in exchange for prayers.

Southern City News gathered that the suspected fraudsters had met him in his office to pray for the success of a deal they were to engage in.

When the pastor, a lawyer, studied them, he had to ask them of their source of income.

Narrating the experience to our correspondent on Sunday, the cleric said, “Two young men came to my office the other day with N2m cash.

“They said it was seed offering and that they had a business they were looking forward to God to bless soon and that the money was seed offering.

“I looked at the two young boys with N2m. I asked them what business they were expecting and they said it was a deal and that they would bring more money to me once the deal paid off. They promised to buy me a SUV.

“I prayed and the Lord revealed to me that it was Internet fraud and I told them so and they confirmed it was true.

“I walked them out of my office, but one returned with an extra N2m in the hope that if the money was much, I would accept it, but I sent them out.”

Nwachukwu described those, who indulged in Internet fraud as worse than armed robbers.

He advised pastors not to pray for or accept offerings from such people.

He condemned what he called the growing trend of youths going into Internet fraud in order to make quick money.

Nwachukwu added, “This is just as there is a growing trend of fraudsters visiting pastors for prayers in order for them to succeed in their plots.

“If you are a Yahoo! boy, you are a thief, and there is no difference between you and an armed robber.”

Politics / Buhari: I’ll Deal Severely With Evil Nigerians by chrysora: 8:22am On Aug 01, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari says he is ready to deal severely with “evil” Nigerians fomenting trouble in Nigeria as he assured traditional rulers from the South-west that his administration was doing everything possible to tackle security challenges in the country.

He said: “We will enforce the law, prosecute lawbreakers and secure an atmosphere of tranquility for all Nigerians wherever they choose to live and also protect our communities from all forms of crimes.

“This is both in our interests as an administration and the interests of the people who voted us into office. We need security to deliver on our many programmes to the people. There can be no prosperity if there is no security.

“This is not only a message of hope but a call to action to all of us as we seek ways to secure our country. On our part, as the Federal Government, we are ready to deal decisively with anyone that is fomenting this spate of criminal activities by every means necessary.

“We intend to deal severely with those evil Nigerians inciting violence for political ends,” Buhari said.

The president stated this when he responded to an address by the traditional rulers, led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi during a courtesy visit to the State House.

The president revealed that the federal government would continue to partner with the state governments in equipping the Nigeria Police Force to check cases of insecurity across the country.

Buhari added: “Working with the State governments we intend to beef up the equipping of the police force with advanced technology and equipment that can facilitate the work of the security agencies.

“We also intend to install CCTVs on highways and other strategic locations so that activities in some of those hidden places can be exposed, more effectively monitored and open to actionable review.

“As a government, we remain committed to the ideals of our democracy, particularly entrenching the rule of law and the sanctity of life.

Crime / Soldiers Who Dehumanised Dreadlocks For No Just Cause Deserve To Be Prosecuted by chrysora: 3:38am On Aug 01, 2019
What happened in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State on Saturday should worry us as Nigerians, and it should be a source of concern to the military authorities, too. Some masked soldiers reportedly arrested some young people indiscriminately on some major streets in the town, simply on account of their being dreadlocks, or because they tinted their hair, made them to serve punishment on the road before driving them to unknown destination, without offering any explanation. Eyewitnesses said they were too scared to intervene for fear of being brutalised by the soldiers.

One of the eyewitnesses described the incident thus: “Their targets were young men, who wore dreadlocks and those who tinted their hair. The masked soldiers flogged many of their victims and used scissors to cut off the hair and then threw the victims into their vehicles and zoomed off. It was a very sorry sight. We were all afraid to get close. The soldiers came unannounced and started arresting, flogging, maltreating and cutting the hair of any young person sporting dreadlocks as well as long and tinted hair.”

Another eyewitness who identified herself simply as Mrs. Mba, said she witnessed a scene at the Afor-Une Market in the Umungasi area of the town. Indeed, Mrs. Mba rightly likened what she saw to a scene from a Nollywood movie. Or, how else could one have described a situation where soldiers asked young men to sit on the floor and started shaving their hair? “Honestly, the people around were afraid to ask any question, because no one knew actually what crime the victims had committed. After shaving the boys, the soldiers eventually bundled them into their vehicle, packed the hair and drove off,” Mrs. Mba added.

This is uncalled-for; it is unacceptable. It is a breach of the personal liberty of the affected youths. No one has the right to decide how the other person looks. There is nowhere in our statute books where dreadlocks are supposed to be treated in that manner. As a matter of fact, we view these incidents as the continuation of the siege on the youths, some of whom are becoming rebellious and expressing their anger in all kinds of ways, including how they dress or their kind of hairstyle. Real or perceived, many of them have one grievance or the other against the system that they feel is unfair to them.

Let us even assume that the youths have broken any law, is it the duty of soldiers (and hooded ones for that matter) to arrest and prosecute them? That soldiers are now being drafted into internal security duties does not mean they have to concern themselves with mundane matters such as arresting dreadlocks.

The military authorities should not underestimate the harm done by these incidents. By now, they should be telling us the soldiers involved. It should interest them and indeed our security agents generally to note that incidents like this worsen the country’s ranking on human rights. Yet, when Transparency International (TI) comes up with a damning report on human rights abuses in the country, the government and the security agencies always want to contest it. Where the military authorities do not see this as embarrassing enough to warrant a thorough investigation with a view to identifying the soldiers who participated in this show of shame, then the Federal Government should wade into this matter. Soldiers or security men cannot continue to go about hooded without the government feeling sufficiently concerned. The last time we saw something like that was in the Goodluck Jonathan era when hooded State Security Service (SSS) personnel actively played partisan roles in the 2015 general elections. This does not augur well for national security.

Even policemen who have responsibility for internal security have no right to treat suspects the way the soldiers treated the dreadlocks. Even where there is a trend between certain crimes and people behaving in one way or the other, it is not enough ground to punish the suspects in such an extrajudicial manner. Profiling people based on emotions is an ill wind that blows nobody any good. It should not be tolerated.

Religion / FG Insists Worship Centres Must Get Wedding Licence, CAN Fumes by chrysora: 11:23am On Jul 31, 2019
The Christian Association of Nigeria has taken a swipe at the Federal Government over its insistence that places of worship must obtain licences from the Ministry of Interior before conducting weddings under the Marriage Act.

CAN’s Legal Adviser, Samuel Kwamkur, in an interview with one of our correspondents on Tuesday, said the Federal Government had an ulterior motive for insisting that churches must obtain licences from the Interior ministry.

CAN stated this just as the Ministry of Interior told The PUNCH that statutory weddings conducted in places of worship that were not licensed by it were not legal.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Georgina Ehuriah, had at a stakeholders’ conference on Wednesday last week, said that only 314 worship centres in the country were licensed to contract statutory weddings.

Ehuriah had stated, “Presently, only about 4,689 licensed places of worship in Nigeria have updated their records with the Ministry of Interior of which only 314 have renewed their licences to conduct statutory marriages.

“The implication of this is that marriages conducted in unlicensed places of worship are not in line with the Marriage Act and cannot serve legal purposes when the need arises and such unlicensed places of worship are operating contrary to Section 6(1) of the Marriage Act.”

She had said arrangements were going on to give couples whose certificates were not issued in line with the Act the opportunity to bring them to conformity.

Worship centres in 15 states lack licence

The data obtained on Sunday by one of our correspondent from the website of the Ministry of Interior indicated that worship centres in Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Ekiti, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara states did not have the legal authority to conduct wedding under the Marriage Act.

It was also observed that no mosque was among the worship centres licensed by the ministry to conduct weddings.

The interior ministry spokesman, Mohammed Manga, explained to one of our correspondents, why no mosque was on the list of worship centres that had licences to conduct weddings.

According to Manga, the monogamous marriage, which is statutory, is regulated by the Marriage Act, 2004, while polygamous marriage preferred by Muslims falls under the Customary and Islamic Laws.

He stated, “Statutory marriage is an item under the exclusive list of the Federal Government, therefore no state House of Assembly can legislate on marriage except those contracted under the Customary Law or Islamic Law.

“A statutory marriage is defined as the voluntary union for life of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. Thus, the procedure, the role and functions of key players in the conduct of statutory marriages are purely constitutional and guided by relevant laws i.e. Marriage Act Cap M6 of the Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as amended,” the spokesman explained.

Worship centre branches can’t use headquarters’ licence – FG

He also said a licence obtained by the headquarters of a church was not applicable to its branches nationwide, explaining that the approval given to a place of worship does not cover its branches.

He added that all branches must obtain their licences on merit but on the recommendations of their headquarters.

He said, “Although the celebration of monogamous marriage in Nigeria is regulated by the Marriage Act, such marriage is usually referred to as statutory marriage.

The ministry spokesman further referred one of our correspondents to a note on the website, www.ecitibiz.interior.gov.ng which stated, “If your place of worship is not listed, then the place of worship is not approved and licensed to conduct legal marriages in Nigeria under the Marriage Act CAP M6 LFN (2004) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The website also admonished intending couples to ensure that their place of worship was approved and licensed by the Ministry of Interior to conduct marriage.

Directive on marriage licence unacceptable –CAN

However, the Legal Adviser of CAN, Kwamkur, who said he was aware that the relevant laws provided for churches to contract marriages, expressed concerns over the directive that churches must renew their licences.

He argued that churches had been contracting marriages without any issues, noting that the new directive looked suspicious, adding that there might be an ulterior motive behind it.

Kwamkur said, “I think there is an ulterior motive towards that. In any case, the registration by churches is done once and it is done by their headquarters. So, the issue of going to renew their licences to contract marriages is very strange, I don’t think it is something the Church can accept. If not for the purposes of travelling, I wonder why they are raising the issue.

“As a Church, we cannot be bound by what they are saying. We have our registration, guidelines and records as churches and we operate independently, so no government can coerce us. The validity of marriage should be beyond the validity of certificate.”

Asked if CAN would challenge the ministry’s directive, Kwamkur said the Christian body was still studying the situation and would respond at the appropriate time.

He noted, “Why are they interested in Christianity? What about Islam? Where are they (mosques) collecting their certificates? Where are they registering their marriages? I don’t know why the government is focusing on these issues instead of developing the country. I think it is diversionary to cover for their lack of performance.”

It negates principle of federalism – SAN

On his part, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Babatunde Fashanu, said it was an anomaly that the Federal Government, rather than the states which are closer to the people, was in charge of English-type marriage.

The SAN said, “When you are talking about the English style of marriage, either in church or marriage registry, that is under the Exclusive Legislative list for the Federal Government. But when you are talking of Islamic or customary marriages, the state can also handle those ones. That is the law, but my own opinion is that it negates the principle of federalism.

Another Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Norrison Quakers, said it was time that marriage be moved from the exclusive legislative list to the residual legislative list to give the states total control.

But, a Catholic Priest and former Director (Church and Society), Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey, said, “Actually in the Catholic Church the code of canon law directs that marriages should follow the laid down laws of the land. Even the code recognises that not all churches are registered for marriages. I think at some point, the government got confused and lax and wasn’t issuing licences or printing the tripartite certificates that churches use as well.”

Also, an Islamic scholar and lecturer at the Al-Hikma University, Ilorin, Ustaz Sanusi Lafiaji, said the government was overstepping its boundaries by seeking to regulate how weddings were conducted in worship centres.

Celebrities / Shame On You Southeastern Governors And Others-onyeka Onwenu Speaks Out by chrysora: 5:56pm On Jul 30, 2019
”Southeast, a peaceful region, a criminal silence of all southeastern governors, states assemblies,
senators and house reps. I say this to you, you
may hide under the altar of cowardice and
hypocritical silence, be assured we know why
you are silent. When we voted for you guys,
we entrusted our collective welfare into your
hands. In matters like this, we look up to no
one but you. Silence speaks one language
betrayal. Yes you betrayed our trust. We feel
abandoned. We will wait for you during
election time.
From the slaughter of our old men, children
and rape of our women by Fulani herdsmen, to
the beheading of Bridget and the acquittal of
the murderers, to the slaughter of pro Biafra
agitators praying, those celebrating memorial
of our fallen heroes to this final occupation of
our land, we tell you Biafra shall arise.
Biafra is our destination. The youthful spirit of
our ancestors. The eternal city of all who
desire to live in freedom for self actualization.
That day will come when the oja will sound,
the gong shall herald the rising of the Sun,
the victory of the wise men from the east.
That day as Martin Luther King Jr said, “we
will remember not the words of our enemies,
but the silence of our friends”
And for Nigeria, the grave of Biafra ingenuity,
keep your evil intent on the people of Biafra.
You must know that it is your hatred,
marginalization through policy of exclusion
and your murderous policies and impunity to
our people that fuels our energy.
We will not give up.
Biafra is all we ask and only that we shall
accept. No presidency. No restructuring”……

Politics / We Will No Longer Tolerate The Killing Of Nigerians In South Africa, lawan Warns by chrysora: 2:54am On Jul 30, 2019
Senate President Ahmad Lawan yesterday said adequate measures must be taken to halt incessant killing of Nigerians in South Africa.

According to him, the killing and molestation of Nigerians in South Africa and in other countries would continue unless necessary diplomatic steps were taken.

He reiterated that Nigeria would no longer tolerate the killing of its citizens in South Africa under any guise.

Lawan’s stern warning came as the immediate past Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama appeared before the Senate for screening and confirmation for reappointment.

The Senate President, who did not hide his disappointment over the continued killing of Nigerians in South Africa, said he had written the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to furnish him with the number of Nigerians so far killed in South Africa.

He said he would also write the South African Government to ask what the country is doing to stop the killing of Nigerians in the former apartheid country.

Lawan said: “I personally met with the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria. If we don’t get things in place, more Nigerians maybe killed abroad. Even if Nigerians commit crimes, killing them should not be the first option. This has got to stop.

“I have written to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I have asked them to furnish us with names of Nigerians killed in South Africa so far. We are going to write to the South African Government and we will put an end to these killings.”

Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu also highlighted the maltreatment of Nigerians by officials of American Embassy.

The Abia North senator insisted that something must be done to ensure that Nigerians get fair treatment without any harassment.

Onyeama noted that some criminal elements in the Nigerian community in South Africa were a setback for them.

The nominee told the Senate that plans were underway to halt the killing.

According to him, a frame work has been formulated for Nigerian Presidents and South Africa President to meet regularly to talk about more bilateral agreements and about how to solve some of the problems.

On the non-payment of salaries of embassy staff members in Washington DC, the nominee noted that allocations and releases to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet its financial obligations to foreign mission staff was not enough.

Onyeama said one of the ways out of the problem was to further reduce the number of foreign missions.

He said the country should focus on missions it can finance to avoid over-stretching its resources.

The nominee noted that he raised the issue at the Federal Executive Council meeting on how to fund foreign missions or reduce the number where necessary.

On maltreatment of Nigerians and non-issuance of visas, Onyeama noted that the country should develop adequate response strategy.

He said: “Because of the situation in South Africa, I went there myself and met with officials. I also met with Nigerians there. There was a trust deficit between the South African police and Nigerians. We met with some Government officials there to have regular meetings with Nigerian unions and High Commission.

“The South African Government is not complicit in the killing of Nigerians. Whoever takes over as Foreign Affairs Minister will have to put in a line a contact line to always be in contact with the South African Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“We have worked on stolen funds. I worked with some countries to ensure that funds were repatriated. Economic diplomacy is something we should really push going forward.”

A former Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Goddy Jedy- Agba, who also appeared for screening said that it was possible to end subsidy regime in the country.

Jeddy-Agba advocated the establishment of a control room, equipped with competent professionals and modern technology, to end oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

The Cross River State nominee pledged to push for the optimum functionality of all the government owned refineries and the completion of the privately owned refinery under construction as we well as the establishment of modular refineries if appointed as a minister.

He said that the government did not need to pay trillion of tax payers’ money to subsidise imported refined petroleum products once crude would be taken directly to the existing functional refineries across the country.

He said: “We don’t need to import petroleum products. What we need to do is to strengthen the various agencies to checkmate the actual crude being loaded and write report.

“We do not have the technology to monitor the process of loading up to the point of export. For now, it is the International Oil Companies that determine the quantity of crude they export because we don’t have control over their operations.

“If I am in that ministry, I will push for the establishment of a control room where we will monitor the process of crude loading up to the point of export. We can do that Nigeria”

Jeddy-Agba also said the best way to stop pipeline vandalism was to lay the types of pipes that would be difficult to destroy while drones should be deployed to monitor those pipes and pour hot waters on the vandals.

Politics / Snake Didn’t Creep Into Ondo Assembly! Lawmakers Lied – Akeredolu by chrysora: 7:56am On Jul 29, 2019
Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo state, has dismissed the reports that a snake disrupted the plenary of the state house of assembly.

Addressing reporters when he visited the assembly this weekend, Akeredolu accused the lawmakers of attempting to blackmail him and his government.

He asked the lawmakers the efforts they made to maintain the complex and make it inhabitable.

“All I have come to do is to verify what happened and I have seen is that there’s an attempt to blackmail this government. We won’t take it,” he said.

“I made sure that the speaker and most of the principal officers were here and I have heard from them in order to know what exactly happened. They have told us that no snake fell here. They were not sitting when the ceiling came down, they only met the ceiling down.

“There’s an attempt to blackmail the government and I don’t believe that is the best approach. This (legislature) is an arm of government; they have their votes and the ones they are entitled to is the ones we give them. This place is termite-infested and certainly the termites have been dwelling here for several years.

“We just spent two years and there is no way termite infestation in less than two years can cause such destruction. Something is wrong, this place has not been maintained. Members of the house have always been here, what have they done about maintenance of this place? If they have not been concerned about this place, we all have to sit down and work things out.”

The governor, however, assured the lawmakers that the government will start the renovation of the complex in due course.

Bamidele Oloyelogun, speaker of the assembly, had told reporters that a snake crept into the parliament.

“I thank God that the snake did not bite any of my honorable colleagues yesterday,” he had told journalists.

Do you think I will have been on the EFCC list?*

Foreign Affairs / US Senator Calls For Investigation Into Faceapp by chrysora: 11:16am On Jul 18, 2019
Popular Russia-based application FaceApp, which allows users to change their appearance to look older or younger, came under fire in the United States Wednesday, with one senator urging an FBI investigation.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called for the FBI and the FTC, the US consumer protection body, to “look into the national security & privacy risks” connected to FaceApp, which is used by millions of Americans but was developed by a Saint Petersburg-based company.

“FaceApp’s location in Russia raises questions regarding how and when the company provides access to the data of U.S. citizens to third parties, including potentially foreign governments,” the New York senator said in a letter to the FBI.

“It would be deeply troubling if the sensitive personal information of US citizens was provided to a hostile foreign power actively engaged in cyber hostilities against the United States,” he added.

Schumer is not the only Democrat who is worried. According to the Washington Post, the party’s National Committee has warned campaigners in the primaries ahead of the 2020 presidential election to “delete the app immediately.”

The party is particularly sensitive to any possibility of surveillance involving Moscow after some Democratic officials were targeted by Russian hackers during the 2016 presidential election campaign.

FaceApp representatives have not responded to Schumer’s letter but the company’s CEO told the Washington Post that the app did not use the photos for any other purpose.

Yaroslav Goncharov told the newspaper most photos are deleted from its servers within 48 hours and said Russian authorities did not have any access to user data.

FaceApp, which was launched by Russian publisher Wireless Lab in 2017, uses artificial intelligence to modify users’ photos, changing their hair colour, adding wrinkles or subtracting years from their faces.

It is currently the most downloaded free application on Google Play, with more than 100 million users after its new ageing filter attracted interest from celebrities including music superstar Drake and NBA champion Steph Curry.

TV/Movies / TRENDING: Hilarious Reactions Trail Petition For Big Brother Naija Show Ban by chrysora: 1:38pm On Jul 12, 2019
Social media users on Friday reacted to the call by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) to ban reality television show, Big Brother Naija (BBN).
The Muslim body had written a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari calling on him to ensure that the Federal Government stops the airing of the television show.
MURIC Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola in the petition labeled the show as ‘immoral, dangerous and bohemian’
They also wondered why the Ministry of Information and Culture and the National Orientation Agency are doing nothing over the show.
This petition sparked a reaction from social media users who took to Twitter to express disapproval. Many using the hashtag #BBNaija #MURIC laughed at the petition noting that the Television show is rated 18 and energy should be channeled to tackling major challenges confronting Nigeria.

Politics / Just In: WAEC Confirms Authenticity Of Abdulrazaq’s Result by chrysora: 6:39pm On Jul 11, 2019
West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Thursday officially confirmed that Kwara state Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq sat for its secondary school leaving examination in 1976 at the Government College Kaduna.

The council also confirmed he sat for the exams using Razaq A.R. as contained in the credentials the governor repeatedly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) when contesting for elections.

The confirmations were contained in the certified true copy of the results of the governor and other candidates of the same set that the examination body forwarded to the Kwara state Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Ilorin.

The tribunal is chaired by Justice Bassey Efiong.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its March 9th, 2019 governorship candidate in the state Razaq Atunwa are challenging the election of AbdulRazaq on the allegation that he did not have WAEC results as required under the law.

The WAEC document, which is the statement of result and numbered exhibit P3B, was presented by Olorunsola Victor O., a senior examination officer with the Ilorin office of the regional body.

The witness, during cross examination, also confirmed to the tribunal that at least 31 other candidates had their names abbreviated, putting to rest claims by the PDP that the WAEC did not allow abbreviations during that time.

Asked if it would be a horrible lie for anyone to claim that AbdulRazaq did not write the exam, the witness said “yes”.

The CTC of the result was signed by Oshindehinde HSA, WAEC deputy registrar, School Examinations Department on behalf of Head of national Office of the body, Olu I. Adenipekun.

The result was presented following a subpeona of the tribunal at the behest of the PDP.

The cross examination was preceded by a mild drama at the tribunal when Paul Erokoro (SAN), counsel to the PDP Governorship Candidate Razak Atunwa, disowned the representative of the WAEC just minutes after he vehemently fought to have him testify at the tribunal.

Erokoro turned 360 degrees after the witness presented the two subpeonas the tribunal had earlier addressed to WAEC along with a CTC of the Secondary School Certificate Examination result of the Governor.
Rather than proceed to have the witness testify to the tribunal, Erokoro said he no longer agreed that the witness had truly come to represent the examination body because the subpeonas did not contain any minute suggesting he had been asked to represent the WAEC.
“We don’t accept this witness as coming from WAEC because there’s no minute on the subpeona that he’s from WAEC. We can’t take his ID as evidence that he’s from WAEC. WAEC should send a witness with instructions to testify on its behalf. We shall therefore be applying for a bench warrant for the head of WAEC to appear before this tribunal,” Erokoro said.

Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission Rowland Otaru (SAN); Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Kunle Kalejaiye SAN and APC, Akin Olujimi SAN, all objected to the application.
They insisted the witness had been sworn on oath and had given his evidence and so must be cross-examined accordingly.
The tribunal, in its ruling, rejected the PDP’s application on the grounds that there was no sufficient evidence to say that the witness did not come from WAEC.

“We recall that the (witness) was presented by petitioners as WAEC representative. He’s been sworn on oath that he’s WAEC representative. He has presented his ID. He said he’s here to present the document based on the subpeona. All of these constituted evidence and there was no accusation of any sort against (this witness),” according to Justice Effiong.

“The only disagreement of the petitioners is that there is no minutes on the subpeona introducing him. We hold that this is not sufficient to order warrant against WAEC, especially that sufficient time had been given for this document to come.

“This witness has given evidence on oath and he must be cross-examined. All of his testimonies on oath are on our record.
“If the petitioners’ only argument is about minutes and not necessarily the genuineness of the subpeona or document attached thereto then we refuse this application of the petitioners for bench warrant (on WAEC)

“We hold that the witness’s evidence be continued or if it is concluded, then he must be cross-examined.”
The case has been adjourned to July 23 for the respondents to open their defense.

Education / Beware Of SIM Swap Fraudsters by chrysora: 2:07am On Jul 09, 2019
There is a new high tech fraud in town called subscriber identity module (SIM) Swap.

Hundreds of persons are already licking their wounds after losing millions of naira.

How it works?
Your phone network will momentarily go blind / zero (no signal / zero bars) and after a while a call will come through.
The person on the other end of the call will tell you that he is calling from your global system for mobile communication (GSM) service provider. The caller will tell you there is a problem in your mobile network.

3 The caller will instruct you to Please Press 1 on your phone to get the network back.

-At this stage, don’t press anything, Just cut or End the call.

If you press 1, the network will appear suddenly and almost immediately go blind again (zero bars) and by that action, your phone is #Hacked.

Within a second, your bank account, will be emptied thereby causing you untold damage.

Experience

It will appear as though your line is without network, meanwhile your SIM has been swapped.

The danger here is that, you will not get any alert of any transactions, so if you do USSD banking and mobile banking, beware and be very careful.

Politics / I Will Be Inaugurated Biafra President On July 30 – Onwuka by chrysora: 12:53pm On Jul 06, 2019
Leader of the pan Biafran group, Biafra Zionist Federation (BZM) Benjamin Onwuka, who was released one year after incarceration has declared he will be inaugurated Biafra President on July 30.

Onwuka was arrested on August 20, 2018 in Enugu by security operatives during one of his groups Biafra agitation activities and kept incommunicado for several months.

He was later transferred to Owerri Prisons from where he was released on July 1.

Addressing journalists shortly after he arrived Enugu, Onwuka said he had become more strengthened in his push for Biafra.

He claimed that with the support of the United States, his inauguration as Biafra President would take place on July 30, at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu.

Onwuka equally claimed that while in detention, a meeting was held between him and President Muhammadu Buhari where he told the President that there was no going back on Biafra.

He declared: “I am happy to inform our people that our victory is here. I have always said it that they cannot stop us.”

The defiant Onwuka assured Biafra has come to stay.

Sports / AC Milan Banned From Europe For Financial Fair Play Violations by chrysora: 1:00pm On Jun 28, 2019
AC Milan was banned from European football for next season on Friday over breaches of financial fair play rules, CAS, the top court for sport, announced.

European football’s governing body UEFA had accused the club of violating financial fair play (FFP) regulations over the past three seasons and the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in their favour.

“AC Milan is excluded from participating in UEFA club competitions of the sporting season 2019/2020 as a consequence of the breach of its FFP break-even obligations” for the past three seasons, the court ruled.

UEFA initially found the Italian giants, who had qualified for the Europa League next season, guilty in June last year of violating financial rules which broadly limit club expenditure to club income in any given year.

However, CAS referred the matter back to UEFA judging that an European ban was disproportionate.

Ultimately UEFA action against the club was suspended pending the outcome of arbitration, resulting in Friday’s decision following the agreement between UEFA, the club and CAS.

The announcement follows the club’s adoption of spending curbs in recent months designed to return its finances to a better state and which saw the departure of coach Gennaro Gattuso.

The Serie A giants, who missed out on a Champions League spot by one point to city rivals Inter, are one of several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, to have been investigated for breaching UEFA’s rules, whereby clubs cannot spend more than they generate by their own means.

AC Milan have fallen foul of UEFA’s financial rules since they spent 200 million euros ($225 million) on transfers in the summer of 2017.

The club insists however that their finances should improve under American hedge fund Elliott Management Corporation, who took control last summer when former Chinese owner Li Yonghong defaulted on the loan he had taken to buy the club in 2017 from former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Politics / Anybody Who Hates Biafra Can't Make Heaven -nnamdi Kanu by chrysora: 6:58pm On Jun 24, 2019
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, says anybody who hates Biafra agitations can never make heaven.

The IPOB leader also urged Igbo in the Diaspora to double their efforts in the actualization of Biafra, stressing that those who heard his campaigns for Biafra and refused to act would never make heaven.

Kano said this yesterday in Houston Texas, United States while addressing Biafra supporters as part of his sensitization tours in the US.

He said, “God gave you a gift in America to rescue us if you like you can leave it. But I can assure you, if you have heard this gospel (Biafra) today, you return to your homes and do nothing, you will never make heaven. Anybody that hates Biafra can never make heaven. In heaven, the angels speak the Igbo language.”

The gathering chorused “ise” (Amen) as he continued his speech.

While comparing Biafra to Israel, the IPOB leader said there were attempts by foreigners to dominate Israel, adding that Israel failed to act because “they thought it was a joke.”

“After 2000 years, their land was no longer called Israel, it was called Palestine and they had to fight their ways. The Quoran says Jerusalem belongs to Israel. The Bible says Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. But today, Israel does not have full ownership of Jerusalem because of one mistake.”

He added, “I hope that the value that has driven Biafra civilization for 5000 years will come back to sustain us for another 5000 years. This evening, we have started something that will culminate in the coming of Biafra.

"All of you that did those wonderful works in years back, I call upon you now to redouble your efforts and do the same thing you did before but only now slightly differently; where before you have Nigeria, remove it and put Biafra.

“All hail Biafra. Anybody from Enugu here? Do you know that your land has been taken over? And we think it’s a child’s play. Nature abhors a vacuum, not just theories, it happens. Do you see how clean this place is? If you lock this place and come back here in 20 years, it would decay on its own because you left home, that is why the Fulani have come.

“The only people who are against Biafra are either saboteur, their fathers were saboteurs during the wars. Anybody that hates Biafra is not of pure Biafra blood. That is why we are relying and counting on you.

“No matter how many Igbo villages you built in Virginia, a place I will personally knock down myself…People built Chinatown to make money if they had built it to make money I can understand.

“What you are saying (by building houses in America) is that we no longer exist and that for people to know who we are, they need to go to a museum and be looking through a window to see things. As long as we stand, our fight is two-fold. Biafra will come and the name Nigeria will cease to exists forever and ever.”
