Education / UNILAG Council Open Can Of Worms On Ex-vc's Alleged Recklessness by Collinsemegreat(m): 6:49pm On Aug 13, 2020
More damning revelations have come to the fore in respect of series of alleged financial recklessness of the embattled former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, a major reason why he was removed from office.

According to extracts from the Report of Council Sub-Committee on Review of Expenditure of University of Lagos since May, 2017, Ogundipe was found culpable and it was this report that was on the front burner for .consideration at Wednesday's crucial meeting of the Governing Council in Abuja.

For instance, the former VC reportedly approved disbursement of N57.9million for international travels for himself and a few other cronies of his within a spate of only six months.

The Council members, who were alarmed at this findings, could not bail out Ogundipe, given that the Financial Regulation of the University of Lagos prohibits what they tagged a profligate spending.

A breakdown of the amount revealed that about 61.84% or N35.8million of the amount spent on estacode and international travels, was utilized by the former VC alone.

Other associates and favourites of the erstwhile helmsman who reportedly benefitted from the largesse were mentioned in the report as reproduced as follows:

Prof. Ogundipe and his cronies allegedly spent N57,921,582 (Fifty seven million, nine hundred and twenty one thousand, five hundred and eighty two Naira) on International Travels in 6 months.

"Out of this, N35,820,819 (61.84%) went to Ogundipe. Breakdown are as follows:Prof. L.O. Chukwu N1,982,495.00, Prof. F. T. Ogunsola N6,295,082.00, Dr. (Mrs.) T.F. Ipaye N4,528,723.00, Dr.S.A. Adebisi N4,824,248,Prof. O.B. Familoni N4,470,215.00, Prof. O. T. Ogundipe N35,820,819.00.Total is N57,921,582.10"

According to the report, it was condemnable a situation whereby the Management went above the maximum N300,000 allowable for an academic staff as subsidy for Learned Conference irrespective of the distance all over the world.

The Council members also frowned at a situation whereby the VC Vice-Chancellor approved estacode for non-principal officers to travel to a reckless limit.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission may soon be invited by the Governing Council to commence investigation into the alleged sleaze in the University.

I added an Indian to my LinkedIn account few weeks ago- Added her because we studied similar course though she have her Msc in Biotechnology according to her profile.

She asked if I was in the medical professional, I answered in affirmation including the fact I am at my finals as an Undergraduate.

She introduced me to a medical tourist organization based in India which help patients from other part of the world in getting an hospital, takingcare of their visa etc according to her.

She asked for my interest in it... I said yes on a condition I will have to have a video chat with her to know if she's not a scammer. We talked today via WhatsApp...

She said 50% of money generated will be mine.

An official agreement will be signed by me.

After 2 years we will renew our contract after that.

My worry is...is 50% too much for me?

What of if the people I bring to them get scammed?

I will be needing your opinion.

Delta Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, and wife, Edith, on Wednesday tested positive to COVID-19.
The development is sequel to tests conducted on them after a few days of self-isolation, which they went into on Friday after one of their daughters tested positive to the virus.
The two heads of the First Family in the state, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, are stable and have commenced necessary treatment, and further isolation.
The governor thanked Deltans for their prayers for his family, and called for continued supplications for all patients undergoing treatment for the pandemic.
He assured that his administration would not relent in its efforts at combating the virus in the state, and urged the public to support the government in that regard by complying with prescribed protocols by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Okowa reiterated that ``COVID-19 is real. The rate is increasing in our state and the virus is taking the lives of some of our people.
``I, therefore, again call on every Deltan to observe the protocols on the virus while in public, to curb further spread of the virus, especially in the communities.’’

Politics / African Union Disqualifies Okonjo-iweala From Vying For WTO Director by Collinsemegreat(m): 11:03am On Jun 18, 2020
EXCLUSIVE: African Union Disqualifies Okonjo-Iweala From Vying For World Trade Organisation Director General

The African Union has disqualified Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from vying for the office of the Director General of the World Trade Organisation, SaharaReporters has exclusively gathered.

In July 2019, the Executive Council of the AU invited member states to present nominations into the office of the DG of the WTO so that the AU would agree on a consensus candidature.

Nigeria initially nominated Fedrick Agah while Benin and Egypt fielded Messrs Eloi Laourou and Abdulhameed Mamdouh respectively.

On June 4, 2020, Nigeria withdrew the nomination of Fedrick Agah and replaced him with Okonjo-Iweala.

However, in a document from the Office of the Legal Counsel of the African Union, Reference Number: BC/OLC/24/5056.20 dated June 15, 2020 and sighted by SaharaReporters, the African Union says the nomination of Okonjo-Iweala violates Rule (11), 1, 2 and 3, Rule 12 and Rule 15(3) of the rules of procedure of the committee on candidatures within the International System of the AU as well as Council's Decisions Ex CI 1072 (XXXV), Ec CI Dec 1090 (XXXVI) and Assembly Dec 795 (XXXIII).

The AU says its Executive Council had endorsed the nominations of Fedrick Agah, Eloi Laourou and Abdulhameed Mamdouh before Nigeria sought to substitute its nomination.

Meanwhile, the council's endorsement was for the nominees in person and not for their countries.

Romance / 10 Ways To Control Your Sexual Desires by Collinsemegreat(m): 11:36am On Jun 17, 2020
Are you the type that finds it difficult to control your sexual desires and impulses when it arises within us at a very fast pace? Then this is for you. Looking for quick solutions to get rid of them should not be a problem. Although, those solutions might not last long, because it is not possible to control sexual desires through a quick fix, but you need to understand that it requires thorough understanding, a lot of patience, internal stability, and most importantly, a steady commitment.

These feelings can sometimes interfere with your daily life and relationships, sometimes in a very damaging way. Finding ways to control your sexual urges may help you improve your quality of life, your relationships, and your efficiency, but it can be challenging to figure out where to start.

For starters, you need to start by distancing yourself from those things that triggers the desires in the first place. Try so hard not to look at images, watch videos, or read stories that are of a sexual nature. When you engage in any of these activities, they cause the multiplication of sexual impulses by tenfold, making it harder to control the desires.

Avoid any eye contact with people of the opposite or same sex (for those that are into that) and avoid touching at all costs. Avoid the company of people or friends that encourage sexuality, even jokingly. You never know when you might agree with them.

From two different studies by Mayo Clinc and Dadabahgwan, this list of tips and tricks we have gathered will help control sexual desires or impulses as soon as they arise:

1. Try so hard to interrupt the link of sexual thoughts as soon as they arise in the mind. You can do this by changing the activity you are doing, changing your focus, thinking about some other work.

2. This point had me cracking but then, I totally agree with it. Picture the human body without skin. It is not a pretty sight. Imagine seeing blood and bones. This practice is done not to create hatred, but to understand and get the real picture of the human body, so that we do not get attracted to it.

3. If you find yourself making make eye contact with anyone who arouses impulses of sexuality within you, you should immediately look away and change the inner visual. Otherwise, the sexual feeling with develop. Therefore, it is best to eradicate it by asking for forgiveness immediately.

4. Leave your environment. You should learn to step away from any environment where you feel it's difficult to control your urges. If you are at home and feeling a compulsion to masturbate, for example, try taking a quick walk to the store or mall. Walk down the road and back. If you can’t leave your current environment, if you’re at work, try talking to another coworker or taking a short break.

5. Imagine the negative consequences of this behavior and make a list of it all. This may help to stave off sexual desires as well. Write down all of the risks and possible consequences of acting on your behavior. Carry the list with you at all times and review it when you experience a sexual desire.

6. And this, try abstain from drugs or alcohol. For those who take alcohol, I’m sure you’d agree with this. Drugs and alcohol can cause you to lose your inhibitions, including your sexual control. Stay far away from parties and scenarios you think might be problematic.

7. Get rid of stress. Sometimes compulsive thoughts tend to creep up on you when you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed (I know this for a fact). If you find this to be true for you with your sexual urges, figure out ways you can live a less stressful life.

8. Keep yourself busy. This helps keep your mind preoccupied and focused on things other than sex. Take up a new hobby or fill your social calendar with activities with friends. Like me, I watch horror movies. Lol!

9. For the spiritual folks, get a spiritual perspective. If you are worried about controlling your sexual urges because of the faith you practice, consider seeking guidance from a spiritual leader in your faith community. Consider talking to your pastors or youth leader in your place of worship.

10. And finally, you should see your doctor. Consider having an exam to rule out any physical problems that may be causing your sexual urges. You might not believe this but sometimes, illness or conditions can upset hormones and can make you feel hypersexual in some way.

Politics / Obaseki Makes Crucial Announcement As Court Suspends Oshiomhole by Collinsemegreat(m): 11:23am On Jun 17, 2020
Obaseki makes crucial announcement as Court suspends Oshiomhole
The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has made a crucial announcement that coincided with the suspension of his political adversary, Adams Oshiomhole, as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

An Appeal Court on Tuesday upheld the decision of the Federal Capital Territory High Court which in March ordered the suspension of Oshiomhole and also ordered him to stop parading himself as the national chairman of the party.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress immediately said its court-suspended chairman Adams Oshiomhole will hand over to Senator Abiola Ajimobi, deputy national chairman, for the south, who is right now critically ill in the hospital.

However, Obaseki took to his Twitter page to make a crucial announcement on Wednesday.

The governor revealed that he has not moved to a new political party.

Obaseki added that his main focus is to control the spread of COVID-19 ravaging the country and not the governorship election slated for September in his state.

He said: “I have not moved to a new platform yet to seek re-election.

“My focus now is to control the spread of the coronavirus (#COVID19) pandemic, which is ravaging our country and threatening our healthcare system.”

The latest announcement, however, shocked many who were expecting Obaseki to announce that he will seek re-election via the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

His movement to the PDP was even more anticipated following his resignation from the APC on Tuesday.

He announced his resignation from the APC after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari.

Obaseki stated that he took the decision after he was disqualified from the party’s primary by committees set up by Adams Oshiomhole.

However, Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Tony Aziegbemi, on Monday, said Governor Godwin Obaseki and other top officials of the All Progressives Congress would soon join his party.

Aziegbemi’s statement appeared valid as Obaseki’s deputy, Shaibu, also announced his resignation from APC on Tuesday. But, in what is looking like a new twist, the All Progressives Congress said they have no record of Obaseki’s deregistration as of Tuesday.

Politics / Oshiomole: I Will Take Legal Action Against PDP, If... by Collinsemegreat(m): 10:28am On Jun 17, 2020
Suspended All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has vowed legal action should the main opposition party, People's Democratic Party (PDP) field Obaseki as guber flag bearer.

Oshiomhole, said this while reacting to the embattled Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki 's resignation from APC, and his likelihood of contesting for governorship under PDP platform.

Adams Oshiomhole described Obaseki's action as, " good radiance to bad rubbish", threatening to take the matter to court if by any chance, the PDP field him as their flag bearer. Oshiomhole reiterated that it was the same PDP who had taken Obaseki's case to court on grounds of traces of certificate forgery when he contested for governorship under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress. Adams Oshiomhole added that the APC managed to pull through the court case because PDP did not present their evidence on time and the case was struck out.

He vowed that if the same Godwin Obaseki comes back to contest for governorship, the APC will adopt PDP submissions in the court and add more forgery evidence that they have come to realise.

With the current resignation of Godwin Obaseki from APC, there are signs that the PDP will adopt him. This is because the PDP had on Friday, June 5, screened three aspirants namely Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Gideon Ikhine and Kenneth Imasuagbon.

However, their planned nomination has been delayed and has been rescheduled to hold today, the 17th of June. This may have been delayed due to the party's plan to give a waiver to Obaseki.

Godwin Obaseki had resigned from the APC due to the rumblings in the party which many have described as conflict of interest. Obaseki himself has said he decided to leave his current party because, "it is a predatory of political godfathers". He added that no thug will disrupt his goodwill for the people of his state, Edo.
