lol... Abi o... I don't know why some still choose that school. There's even a friend of mine who chose the school since 2012 and luckily for him he was admitted last year, resumed for his 100 level this year June and he hasn't even started anything now the school is on another indefinite strike...yet some people will be shouting great ife upandan abeg what's great in that? As if that's the way renowned great universities all over the world always do will they attain their great status?
Since 2012?Hell,I'm sure baba go dey regret am now. The slow calendar has so many ominous implications,,,kunlexic might not know for now,I'm sure of the fact you're a pharmacy student, obviously, you're already aware of d fact you'll have to go for a year housemanship after your induction. This slow calendar of a thing kept my Elder bro and lots of his friends home for more than 9months just for the sake of seeking placement for internship. Why?He graduated so late to the extent most federal and teaching hospitals have already taken the house officers and interns they wanted,so when others were busy applying,he hadn't even begun his 2nd semester exam.If not for God's mercy,he would have spent more than a year @ home.
This strike of a thing is really detrimental to our future.Let's quit reiterating this lame slogan(great ife) of a thing and face the reality.....

Career / Re: Entry Level Salaries Of Nigerian Companies And Agencies by croSStodds(m): 9:15am On Jun 21, 2016
Most bank employees don’t get to earn the figures listed because the figures are for professional staff, whereas 75% of bank staffs are contract staff who don’t earn up to one-third of the figures listed. So, don’t be surprised to know that most “bankers” don’t earn as much as the listed figures. Aviation companies pay between N600,000 and N800,000. Actual salaries may vary slightly depending on qualification and unit. Most companies offering seemingly low salaries bolster their pay with juicy allowances.

OTHERW P&G N200,00+ INEC N77,000 (including allowances) PAL N77,000 Multichoice N40,000 – N70,000

Additional points to note Listed figures are for professional, permanent staff, not contract staff or ETOPs (except otherwise stated). Some figures represent net total with tax deductions, while some represent salary without tax deductions. All values are for monthly pay (not annual). Oil exploration companies pay at least N500,000 for entry level employees, while servicing companies pay at least N200,000. Multinational oil companies pay according to global standards because their employees can be deployed to anywhere in the world. This explains why they pay the highest salaries.

Career / Re: Lecturing Job Vs MNC Job Which Do You Prefer? by croSStodds(m): 3:06pm On Jun 20, 2016
Blackkie:
If you need ''just'' the money MNC is the way to go.

But if you need a career and make an impact that will be felt, lecturing will be fine for you.
The funny thing is that due to the ''denial'' nature of many civil servants in Nigeria, many of our citizens are not aware of how juicy lecturing job is.
I know many lecturers go home with above N500,000 monthly, you work lesser hours and enjoy all holidays to the fullest. Getting grants for research and travelling around the world on the bill of government and donor agencies is at your disposal if you want.
Not only that, the exposure you get being a lecturer is far beyond what you get from MNC.

Many university dons have gone ahead to become commissioners, ministers, governors and heads of states, those from MNC who have hit this mark are fewer.
Above 500k?You'll have to reach the rank of a professor to have that as your monthly remuneration.I'm certain you aren't oblivious of the number of years it'll take you to rise to that zenithal point. Truth is,if you need money, don't go into lecturing at all...You're totally right about university dons getting ministerial jobs, but a person who also works in a multinational coys and gets actively involved in politics can get that too...

afroxyz:
Are you going to be a staff/contract worker in the Multinational?

What are the career prospects in the MNC?

What us renumeration and packages and would you be paid off when they decide to lay off workers?

Start off as a lecturer, in the long run the MNC can hire you as a consultant which is way more that what you would be paid at the MNC. Besides lecturing affords you the opportunity to travel round the world.
The chance of getting hired as a consultant is very slim(1/100).Besides,you apparently don't seem to know much about what's going on in academia, that's one of the rationale for ASUU going on strike every now and then. The expenses for travelling aren't covered by any organization or the university body, you pay out of your own personal remunerations. So before you can afford flying abroad, you'll have to rise to the rank of at least a lecturer 1,this will ostensibly take you at least 13years,that's if you're lucky....

Sorry no offence intended. Just that I expected you to reason somethings out , fortunately you are more informed than I thought and obviously polarised. Apparently medical bch has a lot more career opportunities in common with pharmacy than medicine and you just indicated that your mind is already made up. But I'll advice you to go for what you want not look for justification to hold on to what you can get. With due respect Bro, I would like to say that you are not perfectly correct when you say first degree is first degree because the time input in obtaining university certificate for different first degree programmes is not exactly the same and as such a degree from a full 6 year course is not necessarily equivalent to a 6month/session 4/5 year programme. Also in as much as I do not dispute the fact that a pharmacist know more about a drug than a doctor(for the concept of a drug entails more than just pharmacology), and as such can query a prescription from a doctor, I beg to disagree with your statement about a pharmacist having the right to cancel a prescription. Such can only happen in a place where clients are ill informed. I'm neither a doctor nor a pharmacist. I'm a teacher with the passion to educate. Thank u.
Thank you sir!!!!I'll ponder on it.God bless you.
Career / Re: Medicine Or Pharmacy?which Should I Go For?? by croSStodds(m): 12:13pm On Jun 05, 2016
Efriday1:
Very dull post. Why will someone compare the United States and China just because China is an emerging market? Pharmacy is 5years, medicine is 6yrs. Bpharm is a single hon, mbbs is a double hon. Most trained pharmacists would rather work in the hospital and there the doctor is the head of the team. Pharmacy run on semester basis like your medical biochemistry, medicine run on clinical posting. This means that one runs a 6month per session programme, the other runs a whole year postings with very rare intermittent breaks, eg public holidays and few days to Christmas. If you eventually chose pharmacy, you will find pharmacology most enticing, but the doctor would be taught everything you learn in pharmacology. Tho you will never be bored as a student pharmacist, and you will have more time to yourself, ie if you are exceptional in chemistry of course. Some people argue that pharmacy is more difficult, but medicine is bulkier. You could get bored as a student doctor not because medicine is hard but because there's too much to learn and KNOW in a very short time. However both are noble professions and you will be disappointingly frustrated if you choose them to get rich. Thanks.
OK sir.But what's with the double honor? That part makes no iota of sense to me anyway.it's just like saying Sociology and anthropology is a double degree.A first degree is a first degree. That's quite ironical if you take a look at it.
Also,I'll take you calling my post a dull one a direct attack on my personality. You can disseminate your ideas without venting any modicum of aggression.
If the doctor does know everything the pharmacist know about pharmacology, why does the pharmacy have the right to cancel out any ambiguous prescription?Well,I don't wish to work in a hospital as a pharmacist.I would better work in big retail chains or industries, reason being our health sector is in shambolic slough of despondency. It's always Johesu vs nma,no harmony @ all.

Anyway, thank you very much for taking your time explicating these sir.May God reward you with infinite gratification.
