Please don't get this wrong, you're going to the Canadian Visa Application Center (CVAC) not to the Vo or the embassy.
People make this mistake a lot.

And its biometrics.
tnx @tnuola for dat correction

Thank you so much for your response. I wish to apply online. Do I need to submit the documents in person or send it by DHL?
Even when u scan ur documents and send online u still need to go to VO for biometrice.

akanni:

yes you can!
I am a typical example, once you get your visa,go online to your cic account and change the DLI from your previous school to the present school you want to attend.
I believe this is possible only for online routers what about paper routers, how do they go abt their own.

@ all,

I have gleaned loads of information going through previous pages. However, I have a couple of questions.

After completing the online application, are original copies of supporting documents sent by DHL?

Should transcripts be in official envelopes? I have an original copy of my MSc transcript (UK) which is not in any official envelope.

Thank you all!
u will be asked at the vo while submitting to remove the transcript from the envelop. It happened to me and i became worried cos mine is an official envelop.

oga, just like that abi? if you were the banker, you won't be wondering how he got the statement?
he cannot take it to the bank to be stamped because it is not his account.
Best bet will be to call the oga in the bank and inform him that he needs it stamped.
Yea.......thats true sorry it didnt occur to me. The statement of account i printed was my own account, its a dorm account and the bank refused to give me the hard copy because i dnt have a naira account with them where they can debit the printing charges. so they sent me a soft copy instead and asked me to print and bring it for stamping. U may need to contact ur sponsor and bring to his notice that the statement of acc he gave u has no stamp.I tink he shld know better.

Hello house. My Sponsor is an Oga in a bank so he just sent me a soft copy of his SoA instead of hard copy so there is no signature n stamp of the bank, although it looks original. Pls what can I do. Can I use it like that? Am thinkn of using LoE to explain it to the V.O. or can I print it out and notarize it. Thanks!
Print it out, take it to the bank and get it stamped. one of my bank statements was soft copy dat was what i did.

Good day to the wonderful people of this house. Most people wont know me here. I was part of the successful applicants in Part 4 of this forum. Calgary has been wonderful ( and very cold too) and I am graduating in a few months with my Master of Architecture Degree by the special grace of God. I want to use this medium to thank those who put in time and effort to keep this forum very active. Some of the forefathers I met seldom participate anymore. However, guys like Oga Siga and Oga Justwise are still here. I hail Sirs!! , Still very grateful and remain loyal to your government.

For those who are still hopeful or just about to apply, I want to encourage you all to have faith and follow the process with a clear and genuine motive. We have no idea the amount of help we get from here and the millions we have all collectively saved by going through this forum. I personally have directed about 4 people who have all been successful since I got mine and this is usually my first point of reference whenever I am guiding them.

Lastly, I usually end with a piece of advice or two based on personal experience and how Nigerians can make the most of their stay here. I do this because my schedule is unforgiving and I don't know when I would be free to post again.

1. KNOW YOUR PRIORITIES

Most of us coming here actually are in search of better opportunities in life and career especially as things are so tight back home and I a can speculate that bout 80% of applicants are doing this via the academic route which is a good thing. Those whoa are here are already aware of how the system here can be to your immense advantage or can squeeze the hell outta you mentally and physically. My ultimate advice is that we never forget the major reason for coming here in the first place. As much as money is important, and hustling etc, make sure your academics does not suffocate because you want to make some extra $$$. From experience, I can say, sometimes its better to maintain the lowest budget possible, work only if you have to and when you have the free time available and invest time and create a strong academic reputation for yourself in school. It would get you very far.... Take note, the work I refer to here doesn't include summer jobs but the kinda jobs that eat deep into your academics. See it this way : You may spend all the time hustling and raking up money (which in my opinion doesn't even come close to what you would earn at a very good place after graduation) and fail to perform strongly which immediately places you in a tight angle post graduation. You are already black and African, you cannot add a bad academic standing to that. Pick a struggle...

2. KILL PART OF THAT NAIJA MENTALITY

We must avoid approaching Canada with our Naija mentality - That there is no connection between academic success and success in the market. Connections and all still exist here to a certain degree but largely, this is a merit based system and things like references can take you to places you never could penetrate. Canada unlike most other countries, isn't bad in terms of Racism but you must remember that your nationality and skin color and even accent puts you somewhat at the base of the ladder. This is a bitter truth. So expect prejudice and stereotyping but always respond with excellence. The element of surprise is your most potent weapon. As a personal example: I got an offer from a top architectural firm that wasn't actually hiring to the bewilderment of my Canadian coursemates who still find it hard to believe that a 3rd world country graduate can outperform them. That was in my first year and the job still dey fridge till now. No CV, NO application, No Resume, Just recommendation. Another example is that the current President of the Royal Architects Insititue of Canada is Nigerian. Samuel Óghale Oboh, Full born and bred in Naija who made it through excellence and I actually benefit from his reputation even without my knowing him personally. So my people, excellence is a superior advantage here.....Try to make use of it.

3. MY PEOPLE, MIX UP!!!! ABEG.......
This is very important as the way the Canadians would react to you would be based largely on how timid or interesting you are and believe me, it helps in many ways from help with several aspects of your settling in, to academic assistance and tips about job offers and financial aid. Alo the prejudice factor reduces with an increase in interaction with the. face it, you are in their country. Learn their culture (without loosing sight of yours) learn about their cities, people and even start training yourself to speak English properly, in other words, learn the proper phonetics. (I cant believe I am saying this ). Trust me, there is nothing more mentally demoralizing than having someone ask you to repeat yourself over and over again. If you observe closely, this can spell the difference between them liking you and them not wanting to have a discussion with you both in school and subsequently at work. Its not fakeness, its called "blending in". This doesn't mean you should form whenever you see your fellow naija man. In fact at the slightest opportunity to switch to pidgin or naija accent, pls do to keep our culture alive. NB: I only realized this much later. I wish I started early.

4. KEEP EYE FOR GROUND

Well a lot of us have been conditioned by the Nigerian system that we don't believe that the world can be a good place and sincere people still exist. There are tons of opportunities just there for grabs in form of awards, financial aids and scholarships. Even programs and community initiatives that can go a long way for you. This connects to point no.2 in certain ways but also its not all academic. Participation also goes a very long way. try to seize the opportunity this system offers you and grab whatever is within reach. I depends on where you are but largely, don't expect people to tell you about it. They might not know that you don't know. SO ask questions, and always been on the look out for things like this. Also this is another aspect I wish I took more advantage of. I say this personally because I benefited and actually spent 4 months living and studying in Barcelona, Spain and traveling to over 12 cities in Europe as a recipient of a travel scholarship. So yes, another man's country can give you free money and opportunities your own country couldn't give you. Life isn't as bad as we were made to believe.

5. OPEN YOUR MIND...but don't loose it.

This is probably the most sensitive point and is so because of where we are from and the cultural and societal values on certain things.

a) First aspect I would hammer on is Religion. Well am sure one of the first things that would shock you here is the percentage of atheists here which may range from 40% in the older generation to about 85% in the current age distribution of 16-35 years. You would also encounter several other types of people who believe in things that would challenge the very foundations of your own faith. Please once you land here, instead of dragging with them, getting overly animated and or even condemning them to hell fire ( or wherever) , try and keep your views to yourself but never be ashamed or intimidated into not speaking about it when you feel like. Also take it easy - for those who bind and cast demons or see things other people cant see ( I say this with no intention to mock). But try to understand one thing, most of them don't care and its most likely that the powers, principalities and demons are actually based in Naija where the wickedness and evil is in exponential proportions compared to here. . You would make yourself look seemingly violent when you carry the matter for head. I think this info is clear enough.

b) Sexuality with special emphasis on Homosexuality and gay rights. Please, please and please, Learn to approach the matter with wisdom and tolerance in mind. You would encounter several individuals who are openly gay and they may have the best of personalities. As much as possible, try to keep your personal views to yourself and learn to interact without being judgmental towards them because they would notice immediately. I personally strongly disapprove of the ideology or way of life but I have several friends who happen to be gay now. I have learned that its their choice and the personality and character of the person has no connection to how they choose to love their lives. Hence I don leave the mata for Baba God to gauge the case himself. Its my job to love my neighbor without trying play God. NB: This doesnt mean in any way that I have accepted that way of life as I still feel free to discuss/debate (not be angry or unnecessarily vexed) my own take on the issue.

I hope I have helped one or two people who are about to make the switch to this part of the world. I tried my best to drop as much as I can because such first-hand information is hard to come by in one cohesive piece and I really wish I knew such prior to my coming.

Its a beautiful country here and my prayer and ambition is that one day people would create huge forums and discussion groups about how to move over to Nigeria.
Good luck to all the expectant applicants, may your TRV come unobstructed by the special grace of God.

Best regards & Happy New Month.
Nice one bro gud to know u still care abt ppl u left here. tanks so much

You shld receive a letter which indicates that your seat has been confirmed and tuition fee will be due by August, when u receive it attach it to your admmision letter so they know that the school is not yet ready to accept tuition fees. Send them a mail and request for the letter if they ve not sent to you. The course I applied for is Welding Inspection and Quality control at picto campus. Hi guys sorry this is coming late, my 1st post. I do more of reading but I think I have to contribute my own N1.50k
Centennial College - Advance Diploma Winter 2015
Visa Application - 10th Nov 2014
Biometrics - 10th Nov 2014
Medical Request - 14th Jan 2015
Medical Updated - 20th Jan 2015

Docs
God (fasting and prayer plus vigil ask @ChriGo)
Tuition (Part Payment Receipt)
Offer letter of employment
Pay slip
Leave letter
Letter of intro from company (stating my position and remuneration)
Bank Statement, 2 accounts (both of them no reach 1M closing balance)
Nysc cert and Police Clearance form
Landed property worth 600k (mine)
Sponsor letter from Uncle (not same surname)
Sponsor Statement of account (less than 1M)
Sponsor Letter of Intro from his company to embassy (stating his salary and bonuses)
Sponsor fixed deposit document 3M
Affidavit of sponsorship (notorised no passport)
* no SOP no letter of explanation no travel history*

My course relates directly to what I do presently though my undergraduate study is totally diff, so my leave letter could easily state I needed more knowledge in that area and i will be coming back plus my salary will still be available *even tho na lie*
The sponsorship letter stated that the fixed deposit was for my study and also gave reason why he's sponsoring me (because av got like 5 siblings stated in the family form that can also do the sponsorship; this is to eradicate doubts/why is he). The sponsorship was like a support. I stated in my form "I and my uncle" in the financial or sponsorship column. The sponsorship letter started like ''I will be supporting my nephew..."

Firstly, the relationship btn what I do now and the course solved purpose of visit. I was able to convince vo i have funds for my study with the fixed deposit and my salary they will still be paying and the latter also solving home ties with the landed property ish. The remuneration on sponsor's intro letter from company solved capability of sponsorship as the closing balance is quite small. I believe the content of our docs/letters goes a long way than just having all the docs. We should work more on the contents, tackle every refusal reason before we apply and we start praying because with God all things are possible.

I pray that everybody hoping will smile at last IJN. For my delayed brethren God's time is the best because we know we will definitely get it and for my Gala hopefuls check ur CIC account status gala updated @Fhemmmy
*Please where is ChriGo & @misbon , @Amefrica etc? their generation was the bestest learnt a lot from u guys God keep blessing you, all of una go chop TRV and run abi thriz God oo*

tnx alot @Soji0509 i tried all i could to convince them at exams n records but all to no avail they made it clear to me that no amount of money will make dem release the transcript to me...they insisted on me giving them a mailing address through which they can send it to the embassy on my behalf as an additional document. For my Bsc cert i have been adviced by my Cousin in Canada to submit both original and a photocopy since am applying through paper route also this my cousin is my first cousin from my mothere`s side he also sent me a sponsorship support letter where he clearly stated how am related to him, he also include his house address, his company address and phone number incase of enquires...he signed and his wife signed as well and some other docoments he scanned and sent to me( Permanent Residence card, marriage cert, info page of his international passport with his wife`s own too). He owns company over there and his wife is a black Canadian i jst hope this will make sence if i should include it to my application.

NOBLE men;
I applied and got addmission at Nova Scotia comminity College last year December right now am gattering my documents to apply for Visa. My Sponsor is my direct uncle who is a management staff of NNPC and he has worked for 25 yrs, he has same surname with me and i have already opened a dorm acc in my name and he funded it with $20k i also have goten his own statement of acc which has a total sum of 32M, his pay slip and certificate of occupancy, letter of sponsorship and also affidavit of support which has been notorised in court. But my school has refused to give me my transcript at hand, they asked me to get a mailing address so they can send it to the embassy on my behalf, so i want to know if this is right.,if so how do i go about it. I also have my secondary school transcript can it be used in place of my university transcript since am going for a diploma. Also is there any other thing my sponsor needs to include? He already gave his contacts in his letter for enquires also his complimentary card.
