absoluteSuccess: Let me paint a picture for you, you were asked to invite three of your best friends to an event with a pass, based on the outfit that best suit each, now your best friends appear at the event with the description you painted them by. Who would people at frontpage accord honour? Who will they disdain as image of hopelessness since Mary Slessor? I don't see the discipline mum's reward in your post, to show your tribe is capable of anything (but suffering and discipline that has changed nothing). Please learn not to put Yoruba and Igbo on the same page in comparison, good or bad. You wont like the result. The Yoruba adage has warned us all, gbogbo soro-soro, eranti eni moo gbo, amoro gbor jura lo. What did I say, OP? L A D I !!!!!!!!!! |

The truth of the matter is, every tribe is guilty of tribalism but these two tribes just have an incurable obsession with tribal identity The Tom and Jerry relationship between the igbos and yorubas have come to stay . It's like these two tribes can't help it, one moment they are sweet to one another, the next, they switch to their "factory default settings".
Even some of the smug comments here are laced with tribal undertones 4 Likes |

WHEN YOU SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE - YOU SPEAK IN FEAR CAUSE WHEN THEY HEAR YOU SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE, THEY GIVE YOU THAT LOOK THAT SAYS "YOU DESERVE TO DIE!" ![lipsrsealed](https://www.nairaland.com/faces/lipsrsealed.png)
I EXPERIENCED IT WHENEVER AM IN ABUJA AND AM USING MY LANGUAGE TO COMMUNICATE WITH MY PEOPLE.
THEY LOVE IT WHEN YOU SPEAK HAUSA OR MAY BE ENGLISH - NOT LIKE THEY LIKE THE ENGLISH BUT THEY FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH IT THAN YOUR LANGUAGE. ![angry](https://www.nairaland.com/faces/angry.png) Nwanne, chelu You mean to say when you are in Abuja and you converse in your dialect, you hide your head under your baban Riga for fear of being mobbed or bombed? That's funny, very I spent over a year in one of the nothern states and during my stay there, I had no cause to fret when speaking my native language. I spoke my native language everywhere I went to, I also heard people speak their mother tongue in churches, malls, hospitals, offices, market and car parks . Some of my hausa friends begged me to teach them my language, I did and they in turn taught me hausa.............................. Maybe it's the part of Abuja where you went to but where I lived, no one looked at me in a funny way when I spoke my native language either on phone or to my folks. I only spoke english in the office 1 Like |

If you're someone like me, Ajibode is within walking distance from the main campus. You can simply ask anyone at the main gate or motor park about how to get there with a cab. You know Ajibode, right? Why don't you just tell me how to get there and save me the stress of asking around If i had known the test won't hold in the main campus, I wouldn't have opted for Ibadan |

Is she wrong? The Yorubas I know tell me Christianity and Islam have roughly equal number of adherents in Yorubaland. I'm not disputing the fact that the two faiths have almost equal numbers of adherents I don't know if it's me or her choice of words but by "yorubas are half muslim", I thought she meant yorubas are muslims by default before some embraced Christianity/ paganism |

Culture / Re: Proud Awori People Identify Yourselves Here by Cuddlebugie(f): 10:10am On Sep 09, 2015 |
absoluteSuccess: Yes now, I think the Awori has tribal identity from time, they were alotted the realm they were to be found by the empire builders, but the Yewas are mixture of the folks drifting in from ketu and Oyo (northern Yoruba). They couldn't claim Ketu or Oyo, so the early demographers lump them up as Egbado, that is the egbas kins inhabiting Ado river. But River Ado is however known as 'Yewa' among the 'Egbado' people. So during the latter days of the military era, 'egbado' was dropped as misnomal, and the people opt for 'Yewa'. Ado used to be part of Egbado south, so it stopped being one. Thanks for the detailed explanation |

An old song says it all: Ajijose tiwa, kome le yeh o, bi ng o lowo mo lohun mi o tor niyera f'ebi o. Another one, is it the same as egbado |
