[quote author=OEPHIUS post=71728350]. Since the emergence of Nigeria fledgling democracy in 1999, Northern Nigeria has become a permanent flashpoint of violent conflict. As political and ethnic conflict has been a major threat to national unity in Nigeria. Niger, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, Borno, Plateau State are notorious as flashpoint states in Nigeria and hotspot for numerous conflicts, since the return of civilian rule in 1999.These intractable conflicts include ethnic, religious, political, sectarian, communal, Settlers-Natives and Pastoralist-Farmers dimensions. Political and ethnic tensions have been a major feature of Nigeria political history. Why the unending conflict across Northern Nigeria? Many observes of Nigeria political history have asked why conflicts keep reoccurring between different communities across the Northern region? it is significant to note the influence of politicization of ethnicity, selective injustice and elite manipulation has made crisis possible across Northern Nigeria. Ethno-political conflicts in Nigeria are fundamentally influenced by bad politics, bad governance and poor conflict management. Therefore its management has become a mirage in spite of series of interventions to put the conflicts to an end. Today, the herdsmen are on rampage across Nigeria and Boko Haram is still holding sway across the North Eastern States. But in all of this crisis and conflict that has engulfed different states across Nigeria, Kwara state has stood out in the way it has maintained peace and harmony with the different ethnic groups living in Kwara. As Nigeria is engulfed in crisis and seeks for leadership that can bridge the ethnic divide and unite Nigeria as one, the time is ripe to adopt the Kwara model of peace and harmony in uniting Nigeria as one. Kwara State as a model for harmony and national unity. Since 1999, many Northern States in Nigeria have witnessed endless political and religious killings, today states across the middle belt region is under the constant threat of crisis. This crisis is a result of failure in leadership, where the political class have failed to managed the different ethnic groups and provide the needed leadership. Many of the leaders across the conflict prone state in Northern Nigeria benefit from the crisis and are not willing to embark on actions that will yield peace and harmony across their various states. Kwara State is known as ‘The State of Harmony’ on account of the peaceful relations that exist among its multicultural and diverse population of about 2.5 million people. Where the major religious communities have good relations with one another. The principal groups residing in Kwara State are the Yoruba, Nupe, Bariba and Fulani. Despite having diverse groups living together, Kwara State has witnessed a purposeful leadership that has done well in solidifying their differences and made sure that Kwara remain in a state of harmony. The African report in 2010 reported on how a lot of displaced people in the Nigerian North had to move to Kwara State “The Harmony State”, known for its political peace as tens of thousands of Nigerians from troubled regions and other central and northern states have sought shelter in Ilorin and its environs. http://www.theafricareport.com/News-Analysis/nigeria-fixing-the-middle-belt.html Bukola Saraki was the governor of Kwara State from 2003 – 2011. Between this period that he as the governor of Kwara State, many northern states were engulfed in different political and religious conflicts. The last recorded crisis in Kwara happened on the 20th of Dec. 1999 Muslim fundamentalists attacked and destroyed over 14 churches in Ilorin. Properties worth several millions of naira were destroyed and an unspecified casualty reported. It happened under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Lawal and these problems led to his outster. After the exit of Lawal, came Bukola Saraki the unifier, a leader who understands that you cannot make any meaningful progress or build any key infrastructure without peace and harmony in your state. Under his 8 years as governor of Kwara State, he calmed the nerves and worked with all the tribes to bring equitable justice and peace into the state. There was no recorded political or religious conflict and he managed the state as one. He is a unifier. After Dr Saraki’s tenure, Kwara recorded the lowest poverty rate for any state in the Nigerian north, and up until today, this record stands 8 years after he left the helm of affairs of the state. Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki’s handling of the intertribal crisis in the North Central despite the volatility of the region is a good benchmark for future Governors and Presidents in Nigeria, his method of bringing everyone to the table to be able to ensure equity has turned Kwara into a peaceful state in between a volatile region. Let's put politics aside, I think Kwara state of Nigeria is one of the most peaceful place to live. |

[quote author=Angelanest post=71171608]A man who is apparently not happy with the way things are in the country, decided to take his grievance to another level by detsroying campaign posters of president Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja. The young man was caught in the act and was taken into custody by police officers, according to reports. Last month, the Nigeria Police in Kano vowed to arrest anyone caught destroying the 2019 campaign posters of President Muhammadu Buhari in any part of the state. The Police stated this following cases of disfiguring, or at times, tearing into pieces, campaign posters of President Buhari by suspected opposition politicians in Kano state. The Police Public Relations Officer, Kano Police Command, Magaji Majia, said both covert and overt Police operatives had been deployed to watch and arrest anyone found destroying campaign posters and bill boards of the president. According to Majia, this has become necessary following an ‘unruly behavior’ of some miscreants who destroyed Buhari’s Bill Board/Poster along Sharada Road. [quote author=Citizenshelm post=69907797]A housewife has revealed her husband has refused to pay back a loan of five million Naira she got for him. She revealed that one of the reasons for constant misunderstandings between her and her estranged husband bordered on financial issues. Mrs. Stella Nwobike stated that she had secured a loan of N5m for her husband, Victor Nwobike, but that he had refused to make a refund so far. The woman spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria, even as her 34-year-old sister, Chioma Ihu, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing Stella Nwobike’s husband several times. Ihu said she committed the act to save the life of her sister. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Ihu was arrested on Saturday for attempted murder of Victor Nwobike at her sister’s Lekki Phase 4 Garden, Lagos residence. The suspect, a make-up artist, told NAN at State Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, that she had lived with her sister for six weeks before the incident. She said: “I came from Port-Harcourt to stay with my sister in Lagos because she was having problems with her husband. “Usually, I shared same room with my sister; but on this particular day, I slept off in the sitting room because I got home late the previous night. “Early in the morning, at about some minutes past 5 a.m., I started hearing noise from my sister’s room. I thought it was the usual husband and wife argument. “But when their daughter started saying ‘Daddy, don’t kill my mummy,’ I rushed inside and I saw him using a device with electric current on my sister. “I tried to stop him, but he used the device on me, pushed me away, saying that he will kill us both and he started kicking my sister while she was on the floor. “When I noticed that he concentrated on my sister, I quickly picked a bottle of wine and hit him with it. I don’t know how I stabbed him, I didn’t intend to cause him so much harm,” Ihu’s sister, Stella Nwobike, who was assisting operatives with investigation at Panti, also accused her husband of domestic violence. The 44-year-old mother of five told NAN that she had been married for 13 years. http://wapnetrealm.com/husband-refused-pay-back-n5m-loan-got-wife Some men are just too violent, beating up your woman is like a curse that doesn't need cure, a man that beat his wife is a beast. 13 Likes |

[quote author=naptu2 post=69793712]Post 1F 2) Structure However, as we all know, mere popularity is not enough to win the presidency of Nigeria. Winning the Nigerian presidency is not about intellect, fame or wealth. There are very many famous, wealthy, intelligent or popular people that have attempted to become the president of Nigeria and failed woefully. People like Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Professor Pat Utomi, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Demas Nwoko, Pastor Chris Okotie, Major General Muhammadu Buhari and even Chief MKO Abiola have tried to win the presidency and failed woefully because they did not have the structure that’s required. (I have to make a confession at this point. I was one of the people that mocked Demas Nwoko when he declared that he was going to contest for the presidency of Nigeria). For example, Chief MKO Abiola attempted to contest for the presidency during the Second Republic, but he failed woefully. Chief MKO Abiola was a nationalist (that is, he followed the Nigerian ideology of nationalism). He was a member of the National Council of Nigerian Citizens (NCNC) during the First Republic and it was only natural that he was one of the founding members of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in the Second Republic. The NPN had issues with the media. The biggest newspaper houses were based in the South West and the South West was the main support base of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). Some NPN members felt that the media was biased in favour of the UPN. The NPN was a nationalist party, but the media made it seem like it was a northern party. There were also statements by NPN members that were misreported by the media. For example, Alhaji Umaru Dikko (one of the most powerful members of the NPN) was appointed as the chairman of the committee on rice importation (a very sensitive and controversial committee at that time). In one of his speeches as head of the committee he said, “As long as we are in government, we will leave no stone unturned to ensure that there is sufficient food in Nigeria and nobody will eat from the dustbin”. However, the media reported that he said, “There is no hunger in Nigeria because nobody is eating from dustbins” (or something like that). I know people who still vilify Umaru Dikko today for that statement. Chief Abiola offered to assist his party to counter the negative publicity. He started a very popular national newspaper called the National Concord. The National Concord battled with the rest of the media and balanced the equation in the media. It exposed the Maroko land scandal in which Chief Obafemi Awolowo (the leader of the UPN) was accused of grabbing land from the poorest of Nigerians in Maroko. Chief Abiola’s success with the National Concord made him believe that he could aspire for a key position in the NPN leadership. He contested for the chairmanship of the party, but the key members of the party supported the incumbent, Chief Meredith Adisa Akinloye, who had been a major politician since the 1950s. Chief Akinloye had the necessary political structures, while Chief Abiola did not, so of course he lost the contest. Then he decided to contest in the 1983 presidential elections. Remember that Chief Abiola’s party, the National Party of Nigeria, controlled the presidency and the National Assembly. In other words, President Shehu Shagari was a member of the NPN and Chief Abiola wanted to contest against him. Alhaji Umaru Dikko was President Shagari’s chief enforcer. President Shagari was a quiet and gentle man, so Umaru Dikko did all the dirty work for him (He was to President Shagari, what Chief Tony Anenih was to President Obasanjo). Umaru Dikko had been in government and politics since the 1960s and he knew all the tricks. President Shagari had also been in politics since the 1950s and he was a minister in the First Republic. Meanwhile, although Chief Abiola was a wealthy and popular businessman, he had never held any key political position and he didn’t have a political structure. Umaru Dikko told Chief Abiola that the presidency was not for sale. Chief Abiola lost the primary election, left the party and ceased actively participating in politics. What does structure mean? I tried to explain the concept of structure to a few Nairalanders years ago, but they could not understand it. I will use an example to explain what structure means. There was an old man that I knew in the 1970s and 1980s. He was a very nice old man. He was small in stature, but he was very influential. I remember that he had once held a position in government, but I can’t remember what that position was. He was no longer in government by the end of the Second Republic, yet he was more influential than people in government. You see, this man was one of the de facto leaders of his community. The people went to him whenever there was a problem with electricity or water supply in the community and he intervened and the problem was solved. He helped children get into school, provided scholarships, etc. He took a walk around the community virtually every day, greeting people and enquiring about the welfare of their families. He didn’t have any official government position for most of the 1980s and early 1990s, but he was more respected than most government officials. The people trusted that man more than they trusted people who showed up a year or two before elections to speak big grammar or offer people money. They might show up at other candidates’ rallies, to satisfy their curiosity and enjoy the excitement that rallies provide, they might collect money from wealthy politicians, but they will only vote for the candidates that this man endorses. They’ve actually seen the man solve their problems and they have a personal connection with him. They suspect that the candidates that come to speak big grammar or throw money around will forget them when they get into office, but they know that they can hold that man to account because he is one of them. You need to have a group of such people working for you (in addition to whatever talents you have, e.g. popularity, wealth, intellect, etc.) in order to win elections in Nigeria. If you want to win a governorship election, then you must have them spread across the state. They must be prepared to work for you and mobilise voters across the state to vote for you. Nigeria is a big and very diverse country. In order to win the presidency, you must have people like that working for you in states across all the regions of Nigeria and across all the classes of people in Nigeria. A political structure in Nigeria is a group of associates, followers, loyalists, etc. that can easily mobilise support and votes for the candidate of the group. Political parties have their structures and some individual politicians also have their structure. For example, the political structure of Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the Primrose Group and it has existed since at least 1991. The political structure of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) and it is a successor of the People’s Front (PF) which was the political structure of General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and which was established in 1989. The political structure of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is the Kwankwasiyya Movement. There are political structures that are so strong that they can survive the death of the structure’s leader, e.g. the Awoist Movement and the People’s Front. Some political structures are formal. They have a formal name and structure, but some political structures are ad hoc. They have no formal name or structure, but they are put together to achieve a specific purpose. This piece is about the amazing political machine that was cobbled together by Chief MKO Abiola in order to win the June 12 1993 election. https://naijachronicles./2018/07/28/why-mko-abiola-won-the-1993-election-part- you story is amazing, keep it up! |

I think Atiku is the only candidate from the north that can shake Buhari if PDP wants to win. Buhari should forget the North Central because they believe they've been deceived by him. And for the SE and SS is for the PDP, in d NE and NW the votes will almost be share equally and in the SW the Youth want a new face that will tell them they aren't lazy. Let's stop ranting here. Yeeshanairaland: ![]() ![]() [quote author=chyy5 post=65809066]I Think Is Right To Walk Away This Time. The woman I so much love has been taken me for granted. There is a guy in Malaysia that takes her time all the time. I have tried severally to stop her from contacting the guy but she still does. I am not the kind of guy that beats up a lady otherwise I would have beaten her up very well. The so called Malaysian guy doesn't provide any of her needs. Infact from their heartbreaking chats I read, there was a time the guy told her she is free to date any other guy for money that she shouldn't depend on him for any benefit. My gal told him that she's not in for money. This is a gal I love with all my heart. I've been enduring this for long thinking she will change. I've had heart to heart talk severally with her telling her how pained I am. Yet every night she will be on whatsapp call with this guy for close to 3 hours after work. Their whatsapp chat breaks my heart each time I intrude to read. She keep telling the guy that she doesn't have anybody and even when the guy argued she told him he will confirm when he sex her. It kept me weak yet I continued loving her. Just last week my cousin that is to travel to the states told me to come over to her place. Meanwhile my gal has been having issues with accommodation. Where she stays isn't really OK and her rent will expire ending of this month. I taught it wise to rent the place for my gal. I took her to the place and we concluded with my cousin; she agreed to leave the place for her and even auctioned all her property for her which supposed to amount over 200k but my cousin decided to collect 150k because of me. I collected her account details and told her I will transfer the money to her including the house rent so she can pay the landlord to avoid extra agent fee. As we were going back, my gal was busy apologising to her Malaysian guy why she wasn't able to pick his calls because the guy has been calling when we were there. She told the guy she went out with her house agent to search for an accommodation. I was mad. I am now being referred to as house agent. I forcefully collected her phone to call the guy. She almost died. She throw herself on the bed and was crying pleading I shouldn't call. I left her house. Meanwhile she's having issues raising deposits since she's a DSA. As God may have it I have some funds to help her out but due to her behaviour I've decided to move on She's been calling and pleading but I know is all because of the house and deposits since she's not willing to let the guy go I love her so much and it breaks my heart. I have called her severally and pleaded with her how hurtful I feel seeing her chats with that guy yet she continued. This is a guy that doesn't care about her needs but she kept glued to him. I've endured much hence I am walking away. It pains, yes it pains but I have no choice. Women, they are called mumu/ olojukokoro |
