With all of these, what's been the difference. whether north or east or south, all I want is a better Nigeria economy. Majority of these first world countries are not as Geo-politically/territorially/ethnically defined as NGR but are prospering well. We need to look beyond these things (sometimes, most times). One thing is certain: It is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that the buhari administration has been a huge and massive disappointment. Nigeria needs to be better, and real quick. We will continue to hover around the same political bermuda triangle with these current set of egocentric politicians at the helm of affairs. These people cannot continue to toy with our welfare in this country. They don't have us at heart, and that is the truth. Our destiny is in our hands, the choice is ours. We really need to open our eyes and be very strategic when it comes to political matters in this country. Politics is not some set of people's business. It is everybody's business. We cant afford to vote riff-raffs to lead at the local, state, or federal level any longer. For how long will this continue? 1 Like 1 Share |

Sports / Nigeria Vs Zambia : Ahead Of The Crunch Russia 2018 World Cup Qualifier by deebest(m): 11:54am On Oct 07, 2017 |
Nigeria lead Group B of the 2018 FIFA world cup qualifiers in Africa with 10 points, 3 above second-placed Zambia - whom they face later on Saturday, October 7. The Super Eagles of Nigeria are yet to lose a match during the qualifiers and would secure an automatic ticket to Russia with a win over the Chipolopolo The West African side emerged 2-1 victors in the reverse fixture played last October in Ndola with Arsenal's Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho grabbing the goals for the visitors while Collins Mbesuma scored a consolation goal for the Zambians. Gernot Rohr's men also defeated the Dessert Foxes of Algeria and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 3-1 and 4-0 respectively to lead the group with 9 maximum points after the first leg round of fixtures before being held to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium on September 4. The Chipolopolo will be seeking to upset the 2013 African Cup of Nations winners when they face at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo. Zambia still stand a chance to qualify for next year's world cup if they defeat the Nigeria national team and also claim victory against Cameroon in their last fixture - though that will also mean of Nigeria wins their last game, then Zambia will need a superior goal difference as both teams would be level on points. But a win for the John Mikel Obi-captained team will send the team straight to the finals. Chelsea's Victor Moses has already scored 3 goals for Nigeria during the qualifiers while Kelechi Iheanacho and Tianjin TEDA midfield maestro John Mikel Obi have scored 2 goals each to help propel the Super Eagles to the summit of the group. Moses netted a brace against Algeria on November 12, 2016 as Nigeria ran out 3-1 winners. The former Wigan Athletic midfielder scored his third of the qualifiers in Nigeria's comprehensive victory over Cameroon on September 1, this year. However, the Nigerian team boasts of attacking talents which could cause some sort of selection headache for the Super Eagles Coach, Rohr. Speaking to the media ahead of the match, the German tactician said his selection will be based on different criteria. He said, "First, it is fitness. I mean physical fitness and after that we will look at what happened in the last games they played for their clubs." "Technical quality is another and then tactical understanding and mental strength. You must be cool in the head, not like Brazil against Germany in the World Cup semi-final." Rohr added. "Finally, there must not be too much of emotion, but I am happy to have a choice to make," he concluded. Zambia are second in Group B, three points behind Nigeria. Cameroon sit third with 3 points while North Africans Algeria are rock-bottom on the log with one point after playing four games. Nigeria face Zambia by 5pm (Nigerian time, WAT/GMT+1).

I have never found the recent happenings in Nigeria to be a funny one. In fact, I detest and I dislike the way our so-called administrators run this country. If the serious young minds of this country do not take things into their hands, then I feel sorry. We are not (or have not been) practicing democracy in this country. Actually, this is not the time to criticize Mrs Oby Ezekwesili for her comments irrespective of whatever. The pathetic situation of this country is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. Our politicians are totally above the law, in which most times there is nothing existent which is called THE RULE OF LAW. I refuse to be entertained by these guys though. 4 Likes |

Politics / Re: The "Buhari" That Returned May Be His "Clone". Science Proof by deebest(m): 5:03am On Mar 30, 2017 |
Assumption is a very low level of reasoning. But come to think of it, I believe if it is not Buhari (but his clone) that is back in Nigeria, then Nigerians are being highly disrespected and underrated by her own government (not the first time though). Erstwhile president of the United States, Barack Obama once said, "If the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists - to protect them and to promote their common welfare, all else is lost" |

Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka overcame world number one Novak Djokovic 6-7(1-7),6-4,7-5,6-3 to win this year's US Open men's singles event. It was Wawrinka's first US Open title and third Grand Slam victory. He won the Australian Open in 2014 and last year's French Open title. The Swiss, 31, becomes the oldest male winner of the US Open since 35-year-old Ken Rosewall in 1970. Similarly, the women's singles event of the US Open was won by Germany's Angelique Kerber who defeated Czech Karolina Pliskova on Saturday to claim her 2nd Grand Slam title of 2016. The new world number one had usurped Serena Williams as the game's top seeded player heading into the final match and had beaten Serena to the Australian Open final early this year.

Sports / Ahead Euro 2016 Final: Greats With Mixed Fortunes by deebest(m): 7:23am On Jul 10, 2016 |
Soccer, to many, is the best sport to have ever graced the planet and serves as a unifying force or factor among various people and different cultures of the world. The round-leather game has attracted a lot of fans and fanatics alike based on individual perspective and outlook. While some view the sport as a recreational activity meant to relax one's self, others are of the opinion that it is a die-hard activity. It is obvious however, that the modern day soccer has taken new twists and turns in its execution and has become more attractive as a sport compared to that of the last century. In terms of organization, investment, participation and teams' different tactical approaches to matches, you will agree with me that Soccer is the fastest growing sporting activity in the world. Furthermore, it is the case that the number of football players are innumerable but not all are destined to be soccer greats. Not even all players that are termed 'great' are as successful as they want depending on their definition of 'successful'. Some have won a lot of trophies but the continental championship and world cup titles have eluded them. Notable veterans who have left indelible marks in soccer history include Ferenc Puskas, Alfredo Di Stefano, Michel Platini, Johan Cruyff and a host of others. Some great players are successful with their national teams, some with clubs and some with both. The likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo(the world's better players in over seven years) are successful individual players who have won league and cup trophies with their various clubs but none of the duo has neither won the FIFA world cup nor conquered at continental level. Messi led Argentina to second place at the 2014 FIFA world cup in Brazil, failing once more to lift the trophy for a first time in his career. He has won the FIFA ballon d'Or a record five times (2009, 2010,2011,2012,2015); the FIFA U-20 world cup; Olympic men's football gold medal; Copa del Rey; La liga; FIFA club world cup; UEFA champions league e. t. c. The South American has broken several records and set others having also accrued a good number of individual accolades. Similarly, Portuguese talisman Cristiano Ronaldo has not recorded much success with his national team, even at continental level. He has also never triumphed in a world cup finals. A 31-year old and glaringly, not getting any younger, Ronaldo has been successful with both Manchester United and Real Madrid. He won the UEFA Champions league and the English Premier League with the Red Devils. He also claimed the first of his three ballon d'Or awards while a United player in 2008. CR7 went on to win the La liga; Copa del Rey; FIFA club world cup; UEFA Champions league e .t .c with Real Madrid. Certain legendary soccer stars gifted with intrepid and mouth-watering command of the game coupled with unparalleled football skills, can be termed 'unlucky' not to have won the ballon d'or during this period of the pair's unrivalled reign. Players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Arjen Robben, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Andrea Pirlo e .t . c are players who have excelled at the world stage and proven to be indispensable to their various teams. Roberto Baggio, like several other soccer elites won the ballon d'Or and a host of other trophies and awards but did not claim the european championship trophy or the world cup. He helped Italy to a 2nd runners-up spot and a second place finish at the 1990 & 1994 world cup tournaments respectively. This is not the case with icons such as Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo de Lima and Diego Armando Maradona, who all have immortalized their names in soccer history, forever, not only by being the better things to have ever happened to world football, but also due to the fact that they have elevated themselves and team-mates to being world cup champions, continental championship winners or both. Moreover, it is apparent that not all soccer greats will claim the continental title or the FIFA world cup title owing to different factors. Some may not be surrounded by the calibre of players as themselves and so might not be propelled to win a major trophy as they cannot do so single-handedly. Ronaldo de Lima won the 2002 world cup with Brazil because he had 'world-class' players as his team-mates - Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Ze Roberto, Ronaldinho e .t. c. Winning a major international tournament also involves the tactical prowess of teams based on the technical know-how of the team coach and players alike, and not necessarily as a function of the number of stars or 'world-class' players present in the team. Lionel Messi failed in a second consecutive bid to win the Copa America, losing out on both occasions to South American arch-rivals, Chile. Messi, with his greatness and football splendour, has, yet again missed a great chance to win a major piece of silverware with the Albiceleste. Interestingly however, the world's attention will turn to the Stade de France on Sunday as hosts, France take on Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in the final of UEFA EURO 2016. This is a big chance for Ronaldo to finally lay claim on a major title with Portugal. But with the devastating attackers Les Bleus can boast of, Ronaldo and Portugal's dream might not come true. France will be buoyed by the fact that they have won in all of their last ten meetings with Portugal. Will Portugal win the EURO 2016? Only time will tell if the 2015/2016 UEFA champions league winner will break the long-standing hoodoo.
