In September 2007, things became quite challenging for me and I was almost getting to the point of frustration as a result of my inability to identify what I really wanted for myself. 

The turnaround actually started when with my last One thousand Naira.  I went to the market and bought ingredients for moinmoin with the intent of preparing my family a meal.  Co-incidentally, my sister in-law paid my family a visit that night and had a taste. Immediately, she insisted that I must include moin-moin in her menu, that's how it all started and her I am today. I had no financial weight at all. 

Expectedly as mentioned earlier, my initial buyers were family members, close relatives, friends, colleagues and neighbours. I hyped on the fact that most eateries sold moinmoin in tins, plastics or foils, and so I would let people know mine came in leaves, and more nutritious.  I sell in dozens.

No sooner had people started patronizing my moin-moin than they also began to request that I make other delicacies, such as variety of soups, stews, meals, etc, especially the very traditional ones.  I never turned down any order.

International magazine Vogue has described award-winning Ghanaian actor John Dumelo as an idol of female viewers across Africa in its latest edition.

John Dumelo was also described as a young entrepreneur and a jack of all trades: actor, screenwriter, manufacturer of perfumes and fashion, and in the near future, film producer.

“Next year he will do two: one here and another in England. Yet he is also a regular guy who appreciates his good fortune and is thankful for it.

He has a great respect for women and sees them as being not just important but fundamental in the workplace and for the empowerment of the country,” the magazine said.

Currently, the suave-looking actor who appeals to most African females is enjoying the international spotlight, courtesy a feature in the Italian edition of the internationally acclaimed Vogue Magazine.

The magazine is circulated to millions of readers across Italy and beyond. Persons who read will have the opportunity to get to know the Ghanaian actor.

Indications are that the Vogue team interviewed John during the launching of his J Melo designers in Accra some months back.

It highlighted on the actor’s exploits in Ghana and Nigeria’s movie industry as well as his dreams of getting international exposure.

It also elaborated on Dumelo’s J Melo Collections and its significance to his career.

The past two years have been years of laurels and fortunes for Dumelo. He lifted Ghana’s flag high in Australia at the last Afro Australia Music & Movie Awards where he received this year’s ‘Best Outstanding African Male Actor 2011’ for his performance in the Ghanaian and Nigerian movie industries.

Prior to that, he won the Best Actor In A Supporting role for his role in ‘The Game’ at the first ever Ghana Movie Awards in 2010.

In July 2010, he won Best Actor at the Terracotta Awards held to celebrate excellence in talent and creativity in the Nigerian film and television industry.

Earlier that year, he was nominated for African Academy Awards (AMAA) Most Promising Actor of the Year for his role in the controversial movie, ‘Heart Of Men’.

In 2009, he was also voted Ghana’s Best Actor at the ‘Joy FM Night With The Stars’.

He was adjudged Best Actor, Supporting Role at the 2010 Nollywood & African Film Critics’ Awards (NAFCA) held at North Carolina in the United States.

He read Civil Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology after high school at Achimota High School.

Bee Gees' singer Robin Gibb has died aged 62 after a lengthy battle with cancer, his family said.

They said they were making the announcement with "great sadness".

British-born Gibb's musical career began when he formed the Bee Gees with his brothers Barry and Maurice in 1958.

The group is among the biggest-selling groups of all time with hits spanning six decades including Stayin' Alive, How Deep Is Your Love, Massachusetts and Night Fever.

Gibb's family said in a statement: "The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery.

"The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."
