The bold sums it up

Agree on all counts.

When I first got to england despite being a graduate, I had 2 full time minimum wage jobs as a security guard and at macdonalds. After finishing 12 hours of standing, I will go and do macdonalds where there is not a second of rest. I did what I had to do to improve myself. In Nigeria, you are a minimum wage worker you earn 30k or less and you have time to go to church for overnight vigil and revival?

We are not serious
People would rather pray hoping for miracle on issues they have control over.

You're as ignorant as the person you replied.

We have employers of labour who use their workers to make excessive profits and still pay them less. Is that not true?

For instance, there are teachers in private schools in Nigeria teaching more than two or three subjects, which is not supposed to be,yet they're are paid peanuts despite the large students population and exorbitant school fees that they charge.

Yes, that's happening with nobody to check them.

Both of you are quick to judge others because you're very shallow in your thinking..

So how's this minimum wage increase supposed to force those organizations to pay?
You should ask yourself if they've complied with the current wage before thinking of the new one. Is the labour union even concerned about enforcing the minimum for private organizations to start with?
You probably don't know what you're talking about.

The annoying thing is these people mostly are unskilled and have a bad attitude and poor work ethic. You would think that common sense would tell them that the best way to get a salary increase is to work so hard to get noticed and make themselves indispensable.
Very annoying. It's because it's very convenient to be lazy.
I don't rate any public servant, including their counterparts, the political office holders.

What will you call a couple with two children?
A couple with two children surviving on minimum wage?
You can't comfortably raise kids on minimum wage, but if you do for any reason best known to you, you better be ready to get another source of income and not blame your employer if they decide not to give you a raise, or better still, get a better job.

I didn’t read all you wrote but let me tell you a basic principle in emplotlyer employee relations. If you feel your employer is exploiting you, you are free to quit and find another job. It is not slavery, it is not forced Labour. You likely can only get what you get because that is what your productivity and skill set (or lack there of) is worth in the open market.

Like I said you are free to quit. You have a sense of entitlement. Nobody owes you a job or 3 square meals, you earn it by the value of your work. If 30k is all anyone is prepared to pay you, then get a second job. Or go and work for your father’s company where you can be idle all day and get a salary that is comfortable.

I have repeated this many times: the reason why most employers are only willing to pay minimum wage workers earn so little is 1) they are unproductive…you need 3,4,5 to do the job of 1 person so the salary that should go to 1 person is shared amongst them.
Ask most of them if they can pay their cleaners at least 150k as they want the minimum wage to be, it'll be another story.
I've learned one thing in life: the best way to get a pay raise is to change your job. No profit oriented organization will wake up one morning and decide to double your salary.

NLC and TUC with others are very useless and stupid, what did they achieve?

Let the strike continue, until workers have a better pay.

What can 60k-70k buy for a family of four?

Paint of garri is 4200, rice is 79k-87k and useless labour called off the strike!!!

Na suffer head go kill workers last last, and you dream of crime and corrupt free country with slave pay.
Minimum wagers have no business having family of 4 please. We should be reasonable in this country abeg.
Politics / Re: How much you think will be reasonable for NLC/TUC Accept as minimum wage? by DeOTR: 8:13am On Jun 04
There are a lot of things that the Labor unions should be fighting for.
400k+ might sound very unreasonable, but pegging the minimum wage as a percentage of the monthly salary of those never do wells in the national assembly is a welcome development.
Let the minimum wage never be less than 10% of the total monthly package of any elected public office holder, that's when I'll know Labor unions know what they're doing.
It's either the government bring down their bogus pay, or they increase worker's pay as requested. It's criminal for someone to be earning 18m monthly for a job most Nigerians can do.
If the government wants the people to bear with the effects of their policies and reason with them, they must be seen to be doing the same thing. This is the right time to cut down all government expenses to the nearest minimum.
I repeat, minimum wage should not just be a meaningless number. It should be a percentage of the pay for the political class.

Politics / Re: Minimum Wage: FG, Labour Meeting Adjourned As Workers Rejects ₦‎54,000 Offer by DeOTR: 9:25am On May 22
Yadid:

You must have forgotten that labour is one of the factors of production or that no economy can survive without adequate human capital. There's no statistics anywhere suggesting that Nigeria is overpopulated. This human capital is what Bill Gates was advising the Buhari regime the last time he came around to adequately invest in as it will drive the country towards more economic growth and development. In the face of rife corruption and mismanagement, is the number of children really our problem?
As it turns out, we are overpopulated beyond our our means. Or how do you explain the obvious fact that we can't even feed ourselves? Unemployment everywhere because our resources are overstretched.
My Dad got his first job on the day of his graduation in the 70s. That was a time our national resources are proportional to our population.
If you want to be honest with yourself, to raise for children averagely comfortably in Nigeria of today, you have to be earning nothing less half a million a month.
While I think the FG should increase the minimum wage to about a hundred thousand or above, it is very important as citizens to do our own part.
Uncontrolled explosion in population is already having its effect on us as a nation with the inherent unemployment, rising insecurity and hunger. We can't keep breeding like rats and hoping somehow money will fall from somewhere to take care of them.

Chinjo2:
In case most of you don't understand the need for NLC and TUC to stand their grounds, 54k is just N100 per meal for a family of 6 (Father, mother and 4 children for 30 days).

N100 X 3 = N300
N300 X 6 = N1,800
N1,800 X 30 days = 54k

In most parts of the country, you can't even get a plate of food for N500 talk less of N100.

This is just for feeding. What about house rent, Electricity bills, fueling, school fees, hospitals bills etc.

Hope this regime is favouring the BATarials?
This is the major problem. Why would anyone have up to 4 children in this modern era, especially in Africa where poverty is rife?
I can't seem to understand. If you need to have children, it shouldn't be more than two max.
You litter everywhere with children and never think of the consequences of taking care of them.

This is bullshit if this is not applicable in private sectors.
From my understanding, it is illegal to pay anyone below the minimum wage within the boundary of the country. How come do we still have many private organizations paying their workers (many of them, graduates) below this current minimum wage?
