Hi guys got some tight schedules, @Ex, I'm a great apple fan, but don't like it when guys make too much noise. I've got my macpro since 06, but today u see guys flying out as if they even know what they're having. u can imagine someone that got a pro 2 months ago and asking me if i've ever heard of a mac, then i replied no. When i visited a friend in a Japanese base, a japanese guy was so annoyed that he threw his macbook to the wall. I keep myself with upcoming techs, but dont get excited about anything any longer. Most persons don't even know that systems aren't getting faster but they're only making it better and cooler. @Gamine You air comes in different variants. I don't live in Lag but call to find out from distributors and they said they have onlt the ATA type Pls tell me if the SSD was the type acquired by ur boss, the size and the cost The SSD type has no moving parts inside. @EX The MacBook Air can wirelessly access the optical drive of another Mac or Windows PC that has the Remote Disc program installed, allowing the installation of applications from a CD or DVD. It can also reinstall the system software from the included installation DVD. Remote Disc supports netbooting, so the MacBook Air can boot from its installation DVD in another computer's drive The only qualms is that some guys dont find the confgs easy. The product u spoke of is the Toshiba portege R500, it came after the air and the problem is that it has a smaller screen and lesser speed but almost at the same price tag with the air and so it fell off the market. |

This is the internet. This is an open forum whereby posts can be viewed by anyone, the world over. My desire of making posts are not necessary to attack or accuse but rather to correct and assist those who might stumble upon these posts. Well said, The Altair kit was the birth of personal computer based on the intel 8080 microprocessor that gained popularity in 1975. This new processor inspired software companies to write programs and that led to the first version of MICROSOFT BASIC. IBM introduced it's first PC in 1975 with a built in BASIC language interpreter but fell out of the market due to the cost. It was in 1976 that Steve Jobs and Wozniak founders of apple first introduced the apple 1 which was sold for $666.66 and apple 11 came up a year later which created a standard 4 pcs. Up till this point, the microcomputer world was dominated by two types of computer systems 1.the CP/M systems based on the original MITS Altair and 2. the apple 11. NOTE HOWEVER THAT NONE OF THESE SYSTEMS WERE PC COMPACTIBLES OR Macintosh COMPACTIBLES. IBM was never known for open architecture but reasoned that for one to be successful in the future PC market one needs to adopt OPEN STANDARDS, MODULAR DESIGN AND SUPPORTS FOR BOTH HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FROM OTHER MANUFACTURERS. It was the open architecture of the IBM PC and the turnaround of Apple for closed systems that revolutionized the PC world. On August 12 1981, the IBM PC was born and this can be referred to as the "first PC", IBM contracted the PC's languages and OS to Microsoft and that was how microsoft became the dominant force in PC software today. PC compactible systems have trived not because compactible hardware can be assembled easily but because the OS was from a third party (MICROSOFT) and BIOS and other chips were also from third party vendors. While apple failed to enjoy mainstream marketshare was not because it was not good, but because it was closed. Apple controls all the hardware and software. After years of declining market share, Apple realised this great mistate and decided to lincence it software to 3rd party manufacturers such as Power computing. This was in the mid 90's, and this help Apple in gaining a little popularity. Apple later realized that it can never break into mainstream computing again because the market was now very compectitive and so cancelled its lincense with 3rd party vendors and took its fate for close ended systems. Apple has never fought for mainstream computing and it has never challenged microsoft corporation. Apple produces both hardware and software and as such still makes much profit from its range of products. While it is true that IBM set the standard for PC-compactible systems, today he no longer set the standard for the system it originated. Today Intel and Microsoft codenamed (Wintel) and to some extent AMD set the future pace of computing. The introduction of hardware standars such as PCI bus, AGP bus ATX, NLX, processor sockets, Interfaces, and all other standard you can think of today are determined by Intel, Microsoft and AMD. Microsoft plays additional role by supporting all these hardwares with softwares from a to z. In the list of contributors to the developement of the Computer Systems, IBM is ranked No 1, Microsoft No 2 and Apple No 8 In World rankings of Global Brands. Cocacola is ranked No 1, IBM 2, Microsoft No 3, Intel No 7, Google 10, and Apple 24. For the greatest impact in the Computing world as it affects individuals. Microsoft 1, IBM 2, Apple 16. We thank all developers for their contributions to the PC world and we should then see how we can make impacts in our onw little ways, Thanks all |

THESE ARE POINTS OF CORRECTIONS THERE'S NO NEED ALLOWING PASSION TO SHADOW FACTS APPLE NEVER INVENTED THE GUI STAR WAS THE FIRST SYSTEM TO USE THE GUI WHICH WAS INVENTED BY XEROX (PARS) APPLE'S first use of a GUI system was in 1983 three years after it was invented and being used by systems in the US. You should know better Apple made a clone of STAR and till date they own their loyalty to XEROX. In 1984 Apple introduced the macintosh, a mouse driven computer with a GUI. The mouse was invented by DOUGLAS ENGELBART in 1963 at the STANFORD RESEARCH INSTITUTE (STI) 21 before apple used it with the mac. The mouse was first used with the XEROX 8010 information system in 1981, which itself was a GUI interface. Apple has always come out with third parties interfaces developed by research institutes and Labs, , you should have the history books. Apple has never brougth about an innovation from scratch in it's research laboratories. Maybe you ll save them out. The first mainstream 32-bit OS with the greatest impact worldwide was windows 95. At macworld this year Apple claimed that Leopard which was supposed to be successor to TIGER has FAILED to make impact and hit the numbers of expected users and so the quick released of SNOW LEOPARD next year. It's Unforshunate i can't upload the large video files. For windows vienna the experience will be user-centric and would offer LIVE SERVICES, Google can explain tose words better. it will also feature a VIRTUAL HARD DISK. i.e. support for single-file containers that represent an entire hard drive including partitions, and transparently performing I/O operations on this as a typical hard drive, including boot support. Pls surf the whole net to tell me of systems using these technology. As for multitouch, Apple did not inovated the technology, Bells did in the 80's and years later Fingerworks did a lot of stuffs based on multitouch technology. It was when Apple acquired fingerworks in 2005 that it was implemented on the iphone which was first released in 2007. So what's the news, an old one. In 2007 Microsoft introduced Microsoft Surface, a functional multi-touch table-top computer based on a standard PC platform including an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, Windows Vista, and 2 GB of RAM Mind You the mac is not a tablet PC I subscribe to 2 professional journals and 2 computing mags along with hundreds of DVDS and if You're interested i can always send them to prove my points. If we can meet physically i've got three things the best of mac users have never been able to do on their Macs, but they take less than a minute on a PC. Maybe You can. Have a nice day, |

Human beings are rational and go for the best, if that is currect then check out this figures O/S Windows Vista Manufacturer: Microsoft Year Released: 2007 (4 individdual licence) No of Purchases First 6 Months: 60 million ACTIVATED USERS First 1 year: 100 million ACTIVATED USERS Present: Close to 200 million ACTIVATED USERS and the number keeps counting, This figures present the best PERCENTAGE purchases of an OS since 1995 NOTE: A lot of guys in naija who uses pirated copies were not counted, not to speak of the downloads via torrents. As a financial analyst u should know what the above figures represents when multiplied with figures from 99 to 299 Dollars. Let's say 50% percent are dissatisfied then we still have users in the hundred of millions, SUCCESS speaks for itself not on paper. Can some one help us with the users of Leopard and then the percentage increase over Tiger, Apple itself boasts of Tiger as its most successful OS. Developers.apple.com. I dont know why they love outdated codes remember the Java bug java 1.5 Can i upgrade Apple has Ink but is it a Tablet PC Apple and wireless, what's wrong with d signal strengths Apple and gaming networks? I thought apple founded Xbox Live anywhere USB catching, Sync networks, network projector, network storage, it goes on The users are a minority, they only cry in the wilderness, nobody to hear. Who can hear our voices, maybe the xt guy in the offing. I love my Leopard Thx |

Thanks for those clarifications, i can now see the perspective of your posts. Ex, inasmuch as i'm enjoying this thread, it seems that this will end up being a MICROSOFT VS APPLE LITIGATION SUIT. If that will be the case then i quit. I make posts based on facts, records and experience. Firstly, Microsoft Corporation has the eyes of the world on them being NO 1 in the software developement industry(commercial) and for that matter expect stiff compection. Apple claimed to have incorporated most of vista's features when the OS was released? JOHN RIZZO was very good at his analysis and critisisms. But then he was short-sighted maybe because he's not a programmer. How could it have been possible to start developing codes for some features in an OS almost at completion stage if they were not in the original masterplan, Programmers would understand what that involved. All the features claimed to have Mac OS X similarities have been in early alpla versions of windows and have been demostarated in prototypes more that a year before apple included the features in Mac OS X v10.4 please correct me if need be. Ex, YOU SAID: "Vista has failed. it has failed to unseat XP as the current dominant Windows OS, it has failed to induce enterprises to move up to vista, it has failed to encourage OEMs to stop offering XP to some customers, it has failed to stem the tide of petitions going around demanding microsoft continue supporting XP, and it has failed to outdo its competition. any claim to the contrary is simply buying into Microsoft's public relations mop up in the wake of this disastrous failure. and i think you've bought into the PR whitewash going by your belief in the mantra that Vista is a stop-gap measure" Those statements are more of sentimens than facts. I've held some few seminars last year wherby a lot of companies saw the need to upgrade 2 to the vista OS. This is a serious issue and if any flaw or security breaches arises i can be sued for my statements, presentations, and technical advise. please note that Vista was reeleased to the OEM market in November 2006 and ever since shipped with vista OEM version Now, i don't know the side to which you belong, but to many persons an OS is all about the GUI and that's all, but even at that windows Vista introduced a new set of features visibly and invisibly. These includes SECUTITY Super fetch, Ready boost Sleep features Aero glass Flip 3D Konnfabulator Speech recognition Snipping Tool Quick Launch ToolBar Photo Slideshows Windows Media Encoder Resizing Icons Windows Side by Side and others and each of these features has many in-built features On the QUESTION You asked, it's a good one. YOU SAID: what compelling feature or benefit does vista offer to justify an upgrade from XP? give a credible answer and you've won me over. User Account Control(UAC) Bitlocker Drive Encryption (BDE) Windows Firewall Windows Defender Windows Parental controls Encrypting File System (EFS) Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) Data Execution Prevention (DEP) Digital Rights Management (DRM) Application isolation Windows Service Hardening (WSH) Authentication and logon, (GINA), (BD), (PIN), (SC), (SSO), (SSPI), (CredSSP), (FUS) TCP/IP stack security features, IPv6 Cryptography Network Access Protection x86-64 -specific features The OS brings about many new features that have never been experienced in computing. Space will fail me to speak on the VISTA CORE, Shells, APIs, WDDM and others. There have been too much noise about Leopard but i think insted of airing my views site reviews will be in the best positions to give us post analysis of the two OS. I don't know if You've checked Engadget review, CNET review, PC WORLD and a host of others. I didn't make any contributions to those reviews but those reviews don't just prove what you say about leopard and vista . Scores for the sites include 46:45, 9:8.8, 104:106, 16:16, , Maybe you'll still disagree with the whole internet I have never seen any clear distinction between the 2 OS from more than 20 credible review sites Vienna prototype and features were recently demonstrated, i hope Apple ll not come telling us that it was stolen from their Programming Labs. Thanks Apple, thx MS for keeping us busy. |

Well, a friend of mine reading this thread called me and made a statement. "He said maybe it's because some of us knows how to always get around the corner that we feel nothing is secured." Samir u can hack any wifi networks in less than 5 mins. I can do anything i want with my mac in 60 seconds. Mac installation is a child's play, 1+1-4 chips To a large extent PC users dont complain of their PCs, Mac users enjoys working with their mac after playing with PCs. everyone enjoys working with systems. Who are the mases? majority or minority? The masses in Nigeria today are suffering and i'm one of them. Let's someone help us. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were mates and Gurus in the same Time frame. Both has tried but one is well known while the other is not well knowed even to mac users. Djcn and Ex knows them both. Holla to all that keeps the computing world up. |

@Ex You're an IT guy but sometime i feel u're too passionate abour your posts. You said: now i know that vista has failed (because it has not hit the intended installation base, hence the rush to release windows 7 by 2010), just like windows ME failed. Those very statements can send false signals. You should not expect me to detail u about the timelime of microsoft products because i believe u should know them better. For others out there, this was how it went. In 2000 Microsoft started the planning to follow up Windows XP and its server counterpart Windows Server 2003 (both codenamed Whistler) with a major new release of Windows WINDOWS 7 codenamed Blackcomb. This new version was at that time scheduled for a 2005 release. Later, Blackcomb was delayed and an interim, minor release, codenamed "Longhorn", was announced for a 2003 release. By the middle of 2003, however, Longhorn had acquired some of the features originally intended for Blackcomb, including WinFS, the Desktop Window Manager, and new versions of system components built on the .NET Framework. After the 2003 "Summer of Worms", where three major viruses − Blaster, Sobig, and Welchia − exploited flaws in Windows operating systems within a short time period, Microsoft changed its development priorities, putting some of Longhorn's major development work on hold in order to develop new service packs for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 that included a number of new security and safety features. Development of Longhorn was also "reset" in September 2004. The eventual result of this was that WinFS, the Next Generation Secure Computing Base, and other features seen in some of the Longhorn builds were deemed "not ready" for wide release and as such did not appear in Longhorn when it was released as Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. As major feature work on Windows Vista wound down in early 2006, Blackcomb was renamed Vienna(WINDOWS 7). However, following the release of Windows Vista,a new date of 2009 wa fixed for the release of Vienna. Ex, would u say that because intel decides to release a processor means the former one has failed? Would u say same for a mac Now VIENNA boasts of innovative technology that has never been seen before in any OS. Let me reserve much comments on this as i'm still studying the features. Now for guys who've been using systems for let's say a decade? Pls how was the reaction of users when 2000, and XP came on board? Initial problems but later stability and XP is th only Software that has dominated the world market for 6 SOLID YEARS. Who can beat that. We always complain of change and that's normal, now can u remember the reactions when the world was shifting from 16 to 32 computing? I still got my library intact. This is the main reason why 32 and 64 are being treaded together for a seamless transition. We got to keep going and we will keep going, Thx all |
Computers / Re: Why Buy Hp When There's Acer? by Djcn: 12:55pm On Sep 25, 2008 |
Let me state my stand here that AT PRESENT Mac is more secure than our windows guy, i also agree to the ease of use and flexibility. Those are fundamental facts. Interestingly the number of number of Laptops sold in 2005 for the first time in history OUTNUMBERED their desktop brothers, US only. Mac users are on the increase, because instead of guys going for middle range portables, they prefer the Mac that falls in that category and still perform better than their windows counterparts. The fact should however not be ignored that MICROSOFT AND WINDOWS gave the world computer literacy that led to the unprecendented developement of Computer Technology today. I have not seen any one learning to use a system and practises with a mac. @Ex You Said: Mac is obscure, to use your term, only in the bigger picture of computing in a population that buys heavily into wiondows machines. Let me say that i'm not the originator of that term. Security by Obscurity is a concept employed in cryptology and computer engineering which means the secret being hidden is the key to the entire system's security. Your comments have earlier testified to that statement and if i should use a more general term, i'll say CLOSED SYSTEMS. The links below gives a clearer view. No matter how closed their security is, it can still be easily broken with the right tools and right-sided brain. Now do u know that the itunes have been made 2 sync with non "i" gagdets? Do u know that u the the "i" gagdets and stuffs were hacked even before it was released and this was done by a Linux hacker on a Linux system? I've got hundreds of bugs and fixes in the mac systems but the fact is very many persons are unaware of the information. The fact is this, no matter how secure anything is, once released it is no longer secured. If it comes to the worst we'll employ REVERSE ENGINEERING. I dont know but it's a challange that i've given to anyone who has met with me. NO VIRUS OR WHATEVER CAN GET IN MY SYSTEM. Maybe it will fail tomorrow but has worked for the past 5years. I remain a big apple fan cos they got some real nice stuffs but for every apple product acquired, then expect lesser security, that was a report by some security experts this year. I definitely know they will continue to work harder http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/tech-news/?p=1980 http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/12/15/apple_security_fixes/ http://news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10005653-16.html |

It has been so interesting reading posts of Nigerians on these subjects after i've made so much comparative analysis about a year ago. Well i've been opportuned to make use of the best of desktops and laptops over the years though most times i still fall in love with our first PC, the 386 machine which has been working perfectly for close to 20 years now. who can beat that Drop it from a 10 story building and it'll have no scatch. Now to all your posts and contributions on these subjects, i'll say while some guys are trying to paint facts, others borrow comments and still others just follow. I'm currently employing the services of acer aspire 5560 and have sent my battery to them for the replacement exercise. I have played with one of apple's most innovative product the macbook air, Toshiba portege R500, HP pav 9370 and Ferrarai 1705. But note i'm not the owner, just have access cos of the nature of my work. To me they all tried, have their ups and downs and serves various services for the people who want them. I stopped taking sides with BRAND NAMES AND PRODUCTS because that's what they are, just names, big names, big marketing more money and nothing more inside that some movable silicon chips. When it comes to software, the Mac and Windows have both failed, though they have tried the more in their functions. Bill gates microsoft OS have been hacked into several times and when apple came with the advert of "i'm not a PC but a Mac" that threw up apple sales worldwide, in less than 3 months the leap A virus elvolved and caused the worst damages ever for mac users and even other destructive events followed. This even lead to lawsuits against apple back then. But now this is a fact: Mac computers are partially protected from virus attacks because of a concept called security through obscurity. Apple has a reputation for keeping its operating system (OS) and hardware a closed system -- Apple produces both the hardware and the software. This keeps the OS obscure. Traditionally, Macs have been a distant second to PCs in the home computer market. A hacker who creates a virus for the Mac won't hit as many victims as he or she would with a virus for PCs, but that would soon change as more mac users get on. Some persons dont even know these 2 OS have similarities for example All of these systems work in protected mode. They can run on Intel-compatible platforms. TCP/IP support, common protocols. Graphical User Interface. On each platform they can support applications to run the same tasks. But they also got their differences Similarities between Vista and Mac OS X may benefit Apple, believe analysts at the JMP Securities. They argue that, in the context of almost synonymous features among the two operating systems, users will perceive switching to Leopard on Mac than to Vista on a PC as the same thing, That was a report on my PC mag of June 2007 edition The best desktop operating system to use depends on what its intended use will be and who will be using it. There is no specific operating system which can be called "the best" overall, and since most current operating systems share most common and advanced features there is much debate on the topic. My solutions Get urself a Whitebook Fether a Linux kernel for your taste You're the most secured guy in the world, who can beat that? The game continues, the debate hotter, we live on thx |

IBM's 22-nanometer processor manufacturing is moving a step closer to reality after IBM, Mentor Graphics and Toppan Printing announce that they have come up with new ways to overcome the limitation of etching circuitry onto chips that are this small. In developing new methods for 22-nm chip manufacturing, IBM is looking to beat Intel to the market when it comes to smaller and smaller processors. IBM is claiming a significant breakthrough in the race with Intel to produce the first 22-nanometer microprocessors for use in an array of products from large-scale server systems to smaller, more power-efficient cell phones and PDAs. With current technology, companies such as Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and IBM are pushing their way toward producing processors at 45 nanometers—Intel is already selling 45-nm chips—that will then be followed by 32-nm microprocessors but yet to produce any. However, the methods used to produce 45- and 32-nm chips have their limits and at 22 nm, new techniques are needed to etch the integrated circuits onto processors that are this small in scale, a nanometer being 1 billionth of a meter. "This is serious Litography" On Sept. 17, IBM announced that it had overcome some of the obstacles to producing such small microprocessors. The technique, which IBM called Computational Scaling, overcomes the limitations of current lithography methods by using mathematical techniques and software to manipulate the shapes of the masks and the illuminating source during the etching process. The result is that IBM will not have to radically change its manufacturing process in order to create these 22-nm processors. In this way, IBM is keeping up with Moore's Law, which states that computer processing power doubles every 18 months, without changing the essential equipment it will use for 45- and 32-nm processors. At the same time, IBM will be able to keep up with the chip manufacturing breakthroughs being developed by Intel. Intel's road map calls for 32-nm processors in 2009, with new microprocessor architecture arriving in 2010 and 22-nm chips in 2011. For all these chip makers, 22-nm processors will allow for chips that use less power and offer more performance for a range of devices, including giant server systems and small, more mobile devices such as notebooks and other mobile devices. In laptops, for example, 22-nm chips could potentially increase battery life while allowing OEMs to experiment with different form factors that are smaller and weigh less. IBM is also looking to integrate these chips into its cloud computing strategy. In this case, IBM said it believes it will have to build new types of servers to allow for the flexibility and compute power needed in a cloud computing infrastructure that requires resources on demand. The fire gets hotter |

The future is Fusion and that's only possible with AMD. I do not agree with the fact that AMD is asleep cos they're really working in the LABS and will "blow up" next year. After the merger between AMD and ATI, an initiative codenamed Fusion was announced that merges a CPU and GPU on one chip, including a minimum 16 lane PCI Express link to accommodate external PCI Express peripherals, thereby eliminating the requirement of a northbridge chip completely from the motherboard. AMD will move to a modular design methodology named "M-SPACE", where two new processor cores, codenamed "Bulldozer" and "Bobcat" will be released in the 2009 timeframe. Both cores are to be built from the ground up. The Bulldozer core focused on 10 watt to 100 watt products, with optimizations for performance-per-watt ratios and HPC applications and includes newly announced SSE5 instructions, while the Bobcat core will focus on 1 watt to 10 watt products, given that the core is a simplified x86 core to reduce power draw. Both of the cores will be able to incorporate full DirectX compatible GPU core(s) under the Fusion label, or as standalone products as a general purpose CPU. @EX since u've got more interest in GPUs then u'll definitely be more interested in FUSION, the first of it kind. Bringing imagination to reality. Combining the two most powerful elements in a system into one, i'm still studing the technology, but check out some of the features. A heterogeneous multicore microprocessor architecture, combining a general purpose processing core(s) and basic graphics core(s) into one processor package, with different clocks for the graphics core and the central processing core Four platforms focus on the four different aspects of usage General Purpose Data Centric Graphics Centric Media Centric The Fusion series processor will see new modular design methodology named "M-SPACE", such that design of future multi-core processors will have a wider range of combinations, as well as gaining enhanced flexibility, thus to minimize the architectural changes for different combinations of components. Benefitted from this initiative by AMD, graphics core can be changed without much re-design of the whole core Fusion products will include at least 16 PCI Express (presumably version 2.0) lanes The implementation of UVD in silica for full hardware decoding of MPEG2, VC-1 and H.264 video streams on supported software The first Z-RAM design on a 45 nm fabrication process node was completed in 2006, together with the renewal of Z-RAM license. This coincides with the process node that Fusion processors are expected to be fabricated around the timeframe. This also coincides with the AMD official roadmap for larger L3 caches after 2009. Thus it was rumoured that AMD will likely to feature Z-RAM for larger L3 cache in Fusion products. A new set of instructions and development libraries for Fusion were being developed, and was revealed to be a new iteration of SSE, named SSE5, which is announced on the August 30, 2007. According to Dave Orton, Fusion will have 10% more pins than a "normal CPU" but he failed to further elaborate on what is a "normal CPU". Employ Socket FS1, and two other sockets so that each targeted at different products, Socket FS1 is for mobile parts, another for desktop products and the other server processors. Expected to come in 2009 to replace the AMD Turion Ultra mobile processor for laptops. More info later. Yeh, the fight is not only between AMD and Intel, IBM is a guy in the cover, they went live last week to make this announcement that will likely cause intel to redesign its roadmap. They have overcome the obstacles to the production of a 22nm chip. That sounds wow!!! They want to be the first. Our dear intel hopes to release 32nm chip by 2009 if possible. Let the guys rock it out. More info later guys, got some serious jobs to do and cant watch my scientific channels. http://www.amd.com/us/fusion/Pages/index.aspx |

Good posts, i'm not very comfortable of your use of the word argument. To me it's all about enlightment snd education. I can remember just last year when someone told me that a PIII was faster than a P4. The guy had a point 2 prove 2 me. Well as at today, the Core Processor architecture is no longer employed in computer systems, all of them. But do u know that manufacturing of the 386 processor stopped last year. End of 2007. That was some 21 years in the factory from (1986-2007). Well, we will continue 2 see faster processors, more transistors, more cores, more threads, smaller process and the likes but there will always be a limit to all of these, and some guys are already tagging 2015. My current research is on after the transistors era, let's always expect d best. |

The study of the developement of microprocessors, the properties and nomeclature is a course of it's own. i've got over a thousand pages of books on mP. One truth is that while these guys at intel are working hard. They are more out there to make profits by introducing new processors every now and then and bringing out confusing naming schemes. I'm interested in the i7 cos of the multitreading capability, but note that this will not out perform all core 2 duo processors in every application. @Ex Inferis. The intel Core 2 is a family of processors that include 4 major classes of processors, these are the Intel Core 2 solo Intel Core 2 duo Intel Core 2 quad and Intel Core 2 extreme Core duo is based on Intel's Core Processor and was designed for mobile computers ONLY. BOTH processors were released in the same year with just some five months interval and the major difference is the 32 and 64 bits. They both employ the same socket (4 mobiles) and have many features in common. Core 2 duo was based on the Intel Core microarchitecture, and so was a developement and not a "replacement" None of the current i7 will employ 3MB per core which will amount to 12MB and so stick with 2MB per core. When i said that my processor dissipates 90Watts of energy, i didn't specify the processor. Note this Mobile models of Core 2 processores could be as low as 5.5 watts for example check out the U2100, U2200, SU3300 processors and the desktop versions could be as low as 65 watts, check out these E4300, 4400, 4500, Core 2 Duo E6300 and a host of others, though some are higher. Thanks guy, i love this subject, |

Your case is not unique and even such things happen in other countries. Maybe u might have heard of AT&T's case with a guy last year and some other few cases, one was even featured on DWTV last week. Now based on your report, if u surf at 100kbps that's not too bad, but ur surulere base is very poor. One important point i want u to note is that every webpage amounts to some quantity of data and if websites contain heavy graphics their size would be larger and so u can eat up large amount of data even without downloading file to your harddrive. 3GB could be spent in a month even without downloading a single file, i got nothing much 2 download from the net (most times make orders for softwares) and so the size fits my office work. It's easy to check your data transfer on your system but that is not suppose to be your business and that should be that of glo, though checking it will put u on a safer side as u have a 3GB limitation which is quite small if u do a lot of downloading, The posting of messages could have been sent to u and the message undelivered, they should know better I strongly disagree with u that u must have downloaded some 11.6GB of data and that's what they are charging u for, from my calculations that would amount to more than that cash, but i dont know the platform u're operating on. Now this could have happened to anyone else and so the need to address the situation, i ve taken similar steps to address issues if i am unfairly treated. if u are very sure of your claims, write a letter explaining in details your current predicament, endorsed and sent it to Glo giving them a time interval and if they fail write another letter, duly endorsed and make 5 copies to be distributed as follows one to Globacom one to a National Daily of your choice one to the Customer Forum on GSM operations in Nigeria one to the NCC one for your self and if u like one for me It's high time we started treating issues rightly instead of running away from them as this will put the operators to perform accordingly. |

@skyworld That's good of you skyworld4: Phones are made to browse just like pcs, so what's the big deal Why were browsers incoporated into phones by the manufacturers? If u understand the concept of GPRS and know some little programming, u wont be afraid of anyone knowing any secrets? Cos u can always browse 24/7 If u must know some guys still use FREEDOM and proxifier. Just some more little training, |
Computers / Re: How Do I Install Windows Xp On A Computer With Windows Vista Pre-installed? by Djcn: 10:30pm On Sep 18, 2008 |
Thanks for that detailed explanation. But sometimes after the initial file copy, when Windows XP reboots and loads up the GUI-based component of the install. You may get the following error: “A disk read error occurred – press Ctrl-Alt-Del to continue”. This is caused by a corrupt bootloader. Just repair the vista boot loader and continue the XP installation as explained above. You can also modify the vista boot configuration setup to change the "previous version of windows" to Winxp or what ever name u desire and even dispay ur pictures during bootup process? Hope every one can work this out? Has anyone tried ever tried installing 4 operating systems for your computer system. i've only tried 3, Ubuntu, Winxp and Vista maybe i get down with Mac OSX and see if it will work out, |

Thanks so much for your detailed analysis on this upcoming processor. ve actually read about it in pcmag and its due to be lauched in october this year. I'm really excited about this because the benchmark tests were really impressive. Nevertheless i dont agree with u that the dual core processors will take a back seat since they were just developed about 2 years ago and new releases are also to be made next month. I ll like to order for the core i7 processors if i'm bust up before the years ends but the problem is that it will also employ a different type of motherboard as they are socket B (LGA 1366) while dual core makes use of Socket A (LGA775). A few corrections They ll feature 8MB shared L3 by all cores They ll disipate more heat 130 watts compared to my current processor dissapation of 90 watts They are still based on the 45nanometer process for the 3 current models this link gives the full features http://www.core-i7.com/features-overview-table.html lets see how these machines will perform |

Maybe I'll forward ur complains to a friend of mine who works there. I cant actually understand ur complain. what is the problem? Is the speed slow? What is the speed that u browse at? How did u know that u used 11.6GB? |

Etisalat has what it takes to come out with 3G, they came out with 3.75G in Egypt, there's no big deal about 3G, the world will soon migrate to 4G in the near future and 5G is already in the drafting. @stancozy pls it's not true. your number always remains yours. same thing has been done in other countries @tex sometime i wonder what u guys download from the net. now tell me what was the size of Harddisks Nigerrians were using say 5 years ago? 1, 2, 3, 4, GB. u should know better. so downloading 3G from the net is no small size. While it is true that internet connectivity is still elusive in this part of the world, there's a great hope 4 the future and having internet connectivity will just be like having a mobile phone today. Come tomorrow, Nigerians will surf the net with speeds of wow, |

A friend just told me that Glo is doing this because etisalat is going to rock Nigerians with a similar package. This is a healthy competition, let etisalat lauches, let the competition rocks, let Nigerians surf with wow speeds on the 3G HSDPA. |

@flyuche it was featured in the dailies yesterday and covered by channels. @abibio Yes the 3GB is the limit and if u exceed it u are charged 5kobo per KB @mercy4all 3G HSDPA maximum is 3.6Mbps, while it is true that u cannot always achieve that maximum due to overhead, surfing from anything 1.0Mbps is still very impressive. With this speed u can download a 100MB size of file in a matter of minutes. Just think of that. This stuff is really surfing like wow!!! A truly broadband speed. |
