Computers / Windows 10 Spying Capability And Its Consequence by djl(m): 10:19am On Dec 16, 2015 |
Have you upgraded to Windows 10? How has the experience been since you started using it? No doubt you will agree that this latest Microsoft OS is an amazing software. Comparing Windows 10 to earlier Windows OS by Microsoft you would surely give it a two thumbs up because of its speed, smoothness and enhanced user-friendly environment that it uses to surpass its predecessors. But are you aware that Windows 10 has a hidden secret of playing an intelligent spy, and that it collects data on almost everything that you do on your computer? Well, you would have known about this if you had read the 12,000- words terms and conditions for using the OS before installing it(well, most people don't bother to read the TAC of softwares/apps before commencing installation). Read this: http://hotfixtech..sg/2015/12/how-to-stop-windows-10-from-spying-on.html?m=1 Microsoft is not the first to access the personal data as well as the emails of its users. Apple and Google do the same thing and the reason they gave is that the data are collected to protect its customers. But in actual sense, those personal data might be given out when requested by law enforcing agencies without your consent. You may also like to read Extract from Microsoft's Official Privacy Statement Microsoft also gives its reasons for collecting it's users private information. Whatever the reason might be the fact remains that Microsoft is collecting, keeping, or even disclosing private information to parties that are unknown to the owner of the data. http://hotfixtech..sg/2015/12/windows-10-spying-capability-and-its.html?m=1

Computers / New Features In Windows 10 First Big Update + You'd Love It by djl(m): 12:12pm On Nov 17, 2015 |
Few days ago( Nov 12, 2015) Microsoft pushed out its first big update to Windows 10 via Windows update. This update fixes a lot of problems with windows 10. In this new update, Microsoft is streamlining Windows 10 activation, restoring colored window, integrating Skype, improving the Edge browser, and more. Windows 10 Activation With 7, 8 and 8.1 Product key Activation of Windows 10 has been nothing short of confusion but this has now been fixed. With this new update you can now enter the product key of your PCs Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. This should activate properly if that PC was eligible for the update. Install Apps on SD Incase your device has a low memory you can now install Windows 10 apps on another drive, like SD card. This feature has been re-enabled in the latest update. To me, this is one of the most important features in the update. Track Your PC Windows 10 now has abuilt-in tracking that enables you to track your laptop or tablet in case you lose it, through GPS and location services. Windows 10 can now periodically send your device's location to Microsoft's servers, allowing you to view its last location if you ever lose it. Properties / See Nigerians Build Homes Out Of Beverage Bottles(photos) by djl(m): 10:05am On Nov 12, 2015 |
I saw some new structural projects during my days in the higher institution, and there is this particular mini-one, that caught my attention called a 'Lovepark'. Actually, Loveparks are structures under trees that are meant to be relaxation spots for students and others, and are common site at The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State (FPI) , both at the east campus and the west campus, popularly called 'Complex'. Of all the Loveparks in the school this mini-one seems different because it was built out of discarded beverage plastic bottles. Building structures out of beverage plastic bottles is not peculiar to FPI alone, it is a common practice around the world to see people build homes using this method and many Nigerians are also making use of same method to set up a befitting and affordable homes for themselves. This will likely continue putting into consideration the popularity this method is gaining day by day. In an article by a writer/blogger, Zeon Santos, titled “Nigerians Are Building Homes Out of Recycled Plastic Bottles”, Santos pointed out how proud.... Business / Mtn Ceo Resigns As Ncc Insists On Payment Of N1trillion Fine by djl(m): 7:33am On Nov 10, 2015 |
MTN Group Chief Executive, Sifiso Dabengwa, yesterday, resigned his position. His resignation is coming on the heels of a record $5.2 billion (N1.04 trillion) fine imposed on the company by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for failing to deactivate 5.1-million unregistered SIM cards on its network. MTN, in a statement, said yesterday that Dabengwa has been replaced by former CEO and Chairman, Phuthuma Nhleko, 55, for six months, while the company searches for a permanent successor. “Due to the most unfortunate prevailing circumstances occurring at MTN Nigeria, I, in the interest of the company and its shareholders, have tendered my resignation with immediate effect,” Dabengwa said in a statement. Meanwhile, despite this development, the Federal Government through its telecommunication regulator, NCC, is bent on payment of the penalty imposed on MTN, stating that the November 16 deadline date for the payment of the fine is sacrosanct. A senior NCC official, who spoke with the Newswatch Times yesterday on the fine issue, said the commission has been under intense pressure from the MTN, but “we will not waive the fine.” Though the official confirmed that the delegation from MTN South Africa is in the country, he said “we are yet to meet officially.” He said: “I can confirm to you that the November 16 deadline is sacrosanct despite change in their leadership and delegation. And we have told you we are not directly in charge of this case again. Coming to us may not bring out anything meaningful for them. Yes, they are putting pressure on us, but we are not going to yield to it…We are not ruling out any diplomatic settlement; we believe the Presidency has the final say.” NCC on October 20 slammed a N1.4 trillion in fines on MTN for failing to disconnect some 5.1 million unregistered subscribers, but the news only came to light last Monday. Meanwhile, the South Africa’s MTN Group has said Nhleko will lead its continuing talks with NCC in the bid to get a reduction on the fine. Newswatch Times gathered that the MTN board chose Nhleko because of his vast experience in Nigeria and in-depth knowledge of the company and has reassured its shareholders that its affairs are in capable hands under Nhleko who is “no stranger to the business as he served as Non-executive Director and Chairman of MTN from July 2001 until June 2002 and thereafter as an executive director, Group President and CEO until March 2011.” Nhleko has subsequently chaired the Group in a non-executive capacity for the past two and a half years (29 May 2013), according to MTN. “I will assume responsibility as Executive Chairman for the next six months as I proactively deal with the Nigerian regulator and will continue to work with them in addressing the issues around unregistered subscribers as a matter of urgency,” Nhleko said. Nigeria is MTN’s largest market and contributes more than a third of its revenues. The fine, which amounts to double MTN’s profit last year, was for failing to cut off unregistered mobile users. http://hotfixtech..com/2015/11/according-to-report-by-news-watch-times.html?m=1#more

TV/Movies / Yify: The Rise And Possible Fall Of The World's Most Prolific Movie Pirate by djl(m): 6:04pm On Nov 04, 2015 |
It's never been hard to pirate movies, but for a long time, one collective has made it easier to watch the latest blockbusters than any other: YIFY. By focusing on speed, better quality rips and small file sizes, the group quickly grew to become the number one source for illegal movies, catering for the needs of millions of content pirates around the world. However, the YIFY name may soon fade into obscurity after it was revealed that it's leader had been traced and named in a New Zealand lawsuit following a joint operation between the MPAA and its "international affiliates." While many believe that its releases won't be missed, YIFY's shutdown will leave a big hole in the piracy market and have a knock-on effect on streaming services like Popcorn Time -- at least until another group steps up. THE RISE Of YIFY Before YIFY, there was aXXo. aXXo was the alias of an individual who... Read more: http://hotfixtech..co.uk/2015/11/yify-rise-and-possible-fall-of-worlds.html?m=1

Crime / Woman Dies After Being Set On Fire By A Former Lover by djl(m): 6:48pm On Nov 03, 2015 |
Sonia Bibi, a 20 year old Pakistani woman died on Tuesday after a rejected suitor doused her with petrol and set her ablaze for refusing his marriage proposal. Ms Bibi was admitted to a hospital last month, where she told the police how her former lover set her on fire because she turned down his proposal. According to Dr. Naheed Chaudhry, the head of the hospital's burns department, about 45 to 50 percent of Ms Bibi's body had been burned in the attack. Medical staff had thought she would recover, but her injuries became infected and this made her condition to deteriorate. The case of Sonia Bibi is one of the many cases of violent against women in Pakistan. Each year hundreds of women are murdered in similar cases of domestic violence or on the grounds of defending family 'honor' in Pakistan. http://hotfixtech..co.uk/2015/11/pakistani-woman-dies-after-being-set-on.html?m=1

Romance / Scientific Reasons Why Viewing Pornography Is Harmful To You by djl(m): 8:34am On Oct 29, 2015 |
Just like it took decades for science to prove that smoking cigarettes was harmful, we are learning a similar lesson with porn in our society today. Science and research are proving that porn harms the brain, damages relationships, and is also linked to prostitution and sex trafficking. Porn is a fantasy that is proven to make it harder for users to have real loving relationships. In real life, real love requires a real person. Research has found that after being exposed to porn, people were more critical of their partner’s appearance and displays of affection. Research has also found that after individuals are exposed to pornography, they rate themselves as less in love with their partner than those who didn’t view porn. Frequent porn use is even associated with feeling cynical about love in general, having less trust in romantic partners, and feeling like relationships are confining. Bottom line: a porn habit can take a serious toll on a person’s ability to offer real, unselfish, meaningful love. With all this new information, it is time for people to accept that pornography is harmful. Science and research are proving that porn harms the brain, damages relationships, and negatively affects society as a whole. PORN CHANGES THE BRAIN Just like drugs and other addictive substances, porn floods the brain with chemicals, like dopamine. Over time, the brain gets overwhelmed by the constant overload of chemicals and starts to build up a dependency to pornography. As a result, the porn they were looking at in the beginning doesn’t seem as exciting, and many porn users go hunting for more porn or more hardcore porn to get the same rush. Eventually, the chemical release from regular healthy activities aren’t strong enough to register. This leaves the user feeling down or uneasy whenever they go for a while without watching porn. Phones / Watchout: This New Malware Can Endanger Your Android Device by djl(m): 8:26am On Oct 12, 2015 |
There is a need for all Android phone/tablet users to protect their devices against the latest malware in town that has been targeting android mobile devices in over 20 countries, called Kemoge. What Really Is Kemoge? Kemoge was discovered by one of the leaders in cyber security and malware protection, FireEye Labs, and it was named after its command and control domain(CnC) aps.kemoge.net. According to FireEye, this malware is a kind of adware that camouflages itself as a normal and popular icon that can deceive users to install the app from a third-party app stores. On the initial launch, this malware collects the device information and uploads it to the ad server, then it pervasively serves ads from the background. Victims see ad banners periodically regardless of their current activity. Ads even pop-up when the user stays on the android home screen. Kemoge is annoying at first but soon becomes evil as it carries as many as eight root exploits to root your phones/tablets, targeting a wide range of device model. Apps through which Kemoge attacks devices include: -Talking Tom 3 -Calculator -Shareit -Assistive Touch -WiFi enhancer -Kiss Browser -Smart touch -Assistive Touch -Fingerprint Unlock -Pinky girls -Privacy Lock -Magic Treasure -Light Browser -Sex Cademy -2048kg Learn how to protect your device from Kemoge http://hotfixtech..com/2015/10/must-read-protect-your-android-device.html?m=0

Phones / Facebook Sets To Beat Google And Others To Their Game With The New Facebook M by djl(m): 7:31pm On Oct 05, 2015 |
In August, 2015 Facebook announced a new development into its messenger, an AI-based virtual personal assistant that is simply called “M". While this announcement might come as a good news to Facebook and users of the chat service messenger, it is obviously a massive blow in the face of Google, Apple, and others. What Can M do? Before we think of what M can do let's take alittle peep into what the service is. M is a new personal assistance that is built into messenger. Computers / Beware! Scammers Are Now Using Facebook For Distributing Malware by djl(m): 7:59am On Oct 03, 2015 |
Scammers have now found Facebook as a new platform of choice for malware distribution to as many people as possible. If you notice what looks like a video installer file for Google Chrome you need to exercise caution because opening such files would only expose your Facebook account to the work of scammers. The approach taken by the scammers is to send the link to one of your friends on Facebook and ask him to forward the file to as many people as possible. If the friend is naïve enough to send the link, you will receive the file and feel compelled to open because you trust him. Opening the file will take you to a page that looks erringly like Facebook. Within no minute, you will have downloaded Chrome_Video_installer.scr, which is the video file installer mentioned above. If you have powerful antivirus software, it will identify the file you just downloaded as TROJ_KILIM.EFLD, which is nothing other than malware. What happens after clicking the link, opening and downloading the file is that it will connect you to specific websites where your Facebook account will be receiving and sending information. To be safe from such an attack, you need to avoid clicking on strange links, even if a friend appears to have sent such. Secondly, remember that Google only recommends downloading extensions from its Chrome Web store. Check if the extension is on the Web Store. If it is not there, do not take the risk of opening and downloading extensions or links from a third party or untrustworthy sites lest you compromise your Facebook account. What this trend proves is that Facebook and Google Chrome are currently the most popular platforms among hackers and scammers. The hackers and scammers use these two platforms to perform nasty social engineering schemes. Although Google and Facebook, which are the leading search engine and social media platforms in the world, have taken measures to remedy the situation, they appear incapable of keeping up with scammers and hackers. TROJ_KILIM.EFLD is just but one of the malware capable of tracking your browsing history and share this information with third party sites. Such malware can also inject ads that give you a difficult time when using your PC, laptop or gadget of choice for browsing or performing other similar tasks. Signs that you should look out for to determine whether your machine has fallen victim to such malware include the following: broken web pages strange ads sluggish browsing or low speeds Therefore, learn to identify ways through which to keep your machine and Facebook account from such types of malware. Do not open or click strange links allegedly sent to you by one of your Facebook friends. Open and download extensions only from Chrome Web Store. Never trust any third party site no matter how genuine it appears. If you think the account is already hacked, hire an IT specialist to help remedy the situation. http://hotfixtech..com/2015/10/beware-scammers-are-now-us-ing-facebook.html?m=0 |
Crime / Terrorism: 15 Year Old British Boy Jailed For Life by djl(m): 6:26pm On Oct 02, 2015 |
LONDON (Reuters) - A 15-year-old boy, thought to be the youngest Briton to be convicted of a terrorism offence, was given a life sentence on Friday for inciting an attack on a World War One commemorative event in Australia from his bedroom in northern England. The boy, who cannot be named due to his age, pleaded guilty in July to sending messages online encouraging an attack on police officers at an event in April to mark Anzac Day - a day of remembrance for military dead in Australia and New Zealand. He was just 14 at the time. The discovery of the boy's actions sparked a massive police operation in Melbourne, which led to the arrest of five teenagers who were planning an Islamic State-inspired attack on an event to mark the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, Australian authorities said. British police said had the plot not been uncovered, it was likely someone would have been seriously injured or killed. "From the early communication we could read, it was obvious the Anzac Day memorial service was going to be a target," said Detective Chief Superintendent Tony Mole of the North West Counter Terrorism Unit. "People will be understandably be shocked by the age of the boy. However, this should not detract from the horror of what he was planning." The boy from Blackburn, who had admitted a charge of inciting another person to commit an act of terrorism, was sentenced to life in a youth detention centre and will have to serve a minimum of five years. Manchester Crown Court heard he was initially arrested by police on suspicion of making threats to kill his teacher. When detectives examined his phone they found extreme images, including a screen saver of Islamic State militants. There was also evidence he had searched the internet for instructions on making explosives and building a detonator from scratch. During nine days in March he shared more than 3,000 heavily encrypted messages with fellow plotter "Illyas" in Australia, in which they discussed a plan to run over a police officer at an Anzac Day parade. The boy also suggested Illyas break into someone's house to "get your first taste of beheading" and they shared images, including an exact replica of a knife used in the "Rambo" films. The boy said it had a handle which is "perfect for tearing through throat". http://hotfixtech..nl/2015/10/terrorism-15-year-old-british-boy.html?m=0
