The opening post - but I'm happy to discuss that fact.

Morning btw.
Some of it is fact, some of it is supposition. You set the benchmark so in the OP you were also able to say humans are failures.

I'm an optimist, I love life, I love humanity and I love what we have built. If you were to ask me I would say we are doing pretty damn good.

One thing that often strikes me is the extent to which we over-rate our own importance. Perhaps only the cosmologists and theoretical physicists come close to truly comprehending what an insignificant blip on the space-time continuum we actually are.

In spacial terms - we inhabit a tiny planet with a volume of 3 x 10 ^ −60 of the universe or 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000003%.

In terms of time - we have been here for perhaps 200,000 years or 0.0014% of the history of the universe. The 200 years since the industrial revolution (the period taken for us to **** the planet up) is only 0.0000014%. That is like the last 30 seconds at the end of a 70 year lifetime.

At the other end of the scale we have the religious fundamentalists who believe the whole universe was created for the benefit of humans. On that basis, they want to shorten the age of the universe by a factor of one or two million (and consequently the linear size by something similar). Unbelievable arrogance!!!

We are often told that the shooting of a lion was wrong, but the slaughter of billions of chickens over the past 40 or 50 years is OK as they were bred to be slaughtered.

Its this kind of thinking we are dealing with. As humans, we have bred what was a normal bird, into something with breasts so heavy and wings so small, it can no longer fly. It is now a Frankenstein bird, which serves no other purpose that to feed the burgeoning masses.

This to me, is a far worse crime the killing of a one off lion.

The domestication and selective breeding of animals is probably the first major effect humans have had on earth. The implication of this should not be underestimated and may have a bigger effect on the earth than for instance, the industrial revolution.

But what do I know I guess, I'm a member of the masses.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Catalan Referendum In Spain: Riot Police Fire Rubber Bullets At Crowd by Dollyak(f): 7:40pm On Oct 01, 2017
Yes, everybody knows it has "no binding authority", but truth is the Catalonian parliament -with only the independentists present, and against their own rules and the Spanish laws- approved a law a few weeks ago, according to which they must declare Catalonia's independence if the "yes" won the illegal referendum.
Oh! and as members of the Catalan government publicly declared just 48 hours ago, it would be absolutely illegal if they didn't follow their own laws and declared the independence on Tuesday.
So yes, everybody knows it has no binding authority except the people who have prepared it, and the "laws" they have written for that.

That said, Rajoy is the biggest idiot on earth. The independentists wanted the pictures of the police acting and now they have them. Bravo!

Based on some comments on this thread and on social media, it’s a shame majority of Nigerians don't know what they really want. You can't cherry pick some part of military and democratic rule when it suits. No matter the crime, the democratic constitution must be maintained or you'll have a constitutional crisis.

Ah I know. Only Lagos counts in Yoruba land. I think I've heard some pigs and idiots say something very similar. This is why threads like this and the Ibadan thread must be kept alive so that young Yoruba will know Lagos isn't our only asset. There's brains, brawn and even geographic assets.

I used to think like you some 3 years ago until I saw the rabid hate on us from the powder sellers. Then I discovered how empty their boasts and braggadocio was and I threw all gentility to the winds. We are better than them and will forever be. If this is childish pride, I can't help it grin

If you truly mean what you say about more pressing issues to discuss, start those threads and we'll be there to contribute as much as we can.
I must admit, it's really disheartening to see so much hatred from the Igbos. It is what it is and the response here is understandable.
To address your comment. No, Lagos isn't the only place that counts in SW, but its the only state whose development compared to others state isn't contentious. So Lagos was merely an example.
My comment was more of a bigger picture, if you know what i mean. With respect to your last paragraph I am going to work on it.

I read online that ekiti and ondo used to dominate the waec results. What happened?

All the best shukuokukobambi

The aim has been explained to you over and over again on this thread. undecided So why do you keep repeating the same question? I may not be Yoruba, but I can easily spot the reason for the thread a mile off. It was created to set the records straight. Okay, let me say this slowly and I hope you will get it this time - the thread was created to show that the people of the Southwest (and their kin in the NC) are accomplished achievers in every sector of the economy, who have contributed meaningfully to all spheres of life within this country, and beyond. They can hold their own anywhere, and have excelled in many parts of the world. Get it? shocked Another thread can be opened by your good self, to discuss any other issue which you feel holds more importance, than this one. Hope that helps...
Comprehension doesnt appear to be your biggest strength. Have you ever heard of beating a dead horse? Okay, Yorubas are great and?
Let me ask you a question, if someone were to compare Lagos to any other states in Nigeria would you guys had put so much effort to prove them wrong?
The answer is no, as it's self evident. Now go chew on that.

The "I am Yoruba, by the way" crew who offers nothing significant for Yoruba interest, growth and discussion on this forum.

They only crawl out of their holes when passionate Yorubas make an effort to paint Yorubas in a good light.

You won't find them on anti-Yoruba threads fighting for Yoruba image. No, not at all.

They claim to know what's going on outside of this forum and that there are bigger issues, but me thinks they're just the Yoruba coons, niggers and house nigger or whatever they call themselves.

This thing was also on the Ibadan thread crying about the pictures, but did she contribute anything of substance, no.
There is a mature and balanced response as displayed by okuntanla (though I still disagree on the premise behind the continuance of this thread)and then there is yours. Ignoring my post history for a second, I love how you could confidently conclude my contributions toward Yoruba land.

Btw, I applauds all the achievers on this thread. Nevertheless, you can't wish away the hard truth.

Your confusion is understandable yet grossly misguided miss, considering that you're of Yoruba+Igbo parentage therefore I can see why you'll be feeling conflicted about which side to identify with. But you are dead wrong. Your Igbo brothers actually triggered the creation of this thread, when in their usual chest-beating fashion created a thread running down Yorubas, claiming to 'dominate' everything in Yorubaland, blah blah blah. This thread is for record-setting purposes and it's going nowhere.
Firstly, open-mindedness is a virtue. In that vein, I am not sure how my comment showed a conflict of interest or bias. Projecting much?

I am aware of the context behind this thread and this doesn't justify the never ending comments being churned out of this thread. It has now gone beyond reinforcement of superiority into a self-serving nonsense. Anyways, the first 100 pages had already dealt the 'much necessary blow' to dispel any myth (from a perspective of Yoruba) projected in the other thread.

In the midst of challenges currently being faced by the great Yoruba nation, the energy and the number of comments shows a wrong priority IMO. There are simply more pressing issues that warrant the energies I am currently seeing on this thread. Each to their own I guess.

Smh, another example is this thread. https://www.nairaland.com/3941777/ibadan-pictures-development-fastest-growing/32#59950230

Nothing makes me more angry on nl than this thread and I can only hope this overrated self serving thread dies a violent death (sia hyperbole )by getting deleted. It has serve its purpose and is worn out. You could argue over the 'superiority' of Yoruba as an ethnic group over other Nigerians, but how does Yorubas compares to other Africans let alone other ethnic groups from other non African countries.

Did y'all see the latest report about the educational standard in South West? What about GINI, HDI, growth forecast? These are what matters and not a celebration of a select few.
Anyways, Ignorance is a form of slavery. Wisdom begins with an awareness of ignorance. And although it is a fact that education is costly, ignorance is the only thing that is even costlier than education. The sooner Yoruba leaders realise this the better.

More than 80% UK A- level students achieved a minimum c+ in all subjects. How does that compares to the average Yoruba students (The future of Yoruba race)?

Perspective is needed ladies and gents.

Rants over.
