Crime / #EndSARS: FG bows to Pressure; Dissolves The Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) by domesifa(m): 2:01pm On Oct 11, 2020 |
In reply please quote Ref No. CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.3/30 Date: 11th October, 2020 The Director of News ……………………………. PRESS RELEASE IGP DISSOLVES THE SPECIAL ANTI-ROBBERY SQUAD (SARS) · Emplaces other measures to protect the citizens In the finest spirit of democratic, citizen-centred and community policing, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has today, 11th October, 2020, dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) where they hitherto existed. The IGP, while noting that the dissolution of SARS is in response to the yearnings of the Nigerian people, observes that by this dissolution, all officers and men of the now defunct Special Anti-robbery Squad are being redeployed with immediate effect. The IGP notes that the Force is not oblivious of the ever present need to combat armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country which was before now the core mandate of the erstwhile Squad. He assures that a new policing arrangement to address anticipated policing gaps the dissolution of SARS would cause has been evolved and shall be announced in due course. Meanwhile, as part of measures to prevent a re-occurrence of events that gave rise to the dissolution of SARS, a Citizens’ and Strategic Stakeholders’ Forum is being formed to regularly interface with Police leadership at all levels and advise on police activities as they affect the general public. In addition, the Force is constituting an Investigation Team which shall include Civil Society Organizations and Human Rights Bodies to work with the Police in investigating alleged cases of human rights violations. The measure, the IGP believes, will enhance transparency and accountability in police services as well as providing a system of deterrence for erring police officers whose action clearly violates the rights of the citizenry. The IGP appreciates and commends all citizens particularly those who genuinely express their concerns for a better policing orientation in an organized, patriotic and civil manner. He reaffirms the determination of the Force to bequeath to the country a Police Force and System that is professional in service delivery and most importantly, accountable to the people. Over the years, the nation has come together across the country to commemorate the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Take a look at some of the photos of the U.S. Presidents paying their tributes. The events of September 11, 2001 permanently changed America's perception of security and prompted then-President George W. Bush to declare war on terrorism and invade Afghanistan after the deadliest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor in 1941. U.S.-led coalition forces have knocked the Taliban from power in Afghanistan. The war there continues, although earlier this year the U.S. and Taliban signed an agreement aimed at ending the conflict. The United States searched for al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden for years after the terrorist attacks, and in May 2011 a team of U.S. Navy Seals raided a compound in Pakistan where they shot him dead. Memorials for those killed in the attacks now stand at sites in New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania. The Pentagon crash site was quickly rebuilt after the attacks. A new tower at the World Trade Center site took longer to construct, but now rises above the Manhattan skyline as the tallest building in the United States. https://www.voanews.com/usa/americans-mark-19th-anniversary-september-11-attacks |

Business / I Want To Register Another Business Name But My Name Appears As Proprietor by domesifa(m): 10:22pm On Sep 09, 2020 |
Hi, please anyone with this experience? I have an account with CAC after successfully registering my business. Now I want to register another business (for someone else) as a presenter, but my name appears as Proprietor 1 instead of presenter, with no option of deleting my name. Please how do I remove my name as Proprietor 1. Or must the owner of the business create his/her own account to register the business? I've already sent mail to CAC, and I know it will take them donkey's years to respond. Does anyone have idea how to register business on behalf of another person without the presenter's name appearing as Proprietor 1? Thank you |

Education / JAMB Pegs 2020 University Admission Cut-off Mark At 160 by domesifa(m): 3:44pm On Jun 16, 2020 |
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has kicked-off the admission exercise for 2020/2021 academic year for tertiary institutions with the announcement of cut-off points for admissions. The Board announced cut-off points for various institutions: universities from 160, polytechnics from 120, colleges of education and innovative institutions from 100. JAMB Registrar Prof Ishaq Oloyede, who announced the development at the end of the Board’s 2020 Policy Meeting, warned institutions against charging candidates more than N2,000 for their screening exercise In his presentation, Oloyede disclosed that 510,957 admission spaces were unused by tertiary institutions in 2019 admission year. He also disclosed that 612,557 candidates were offered admission out of the 1,157,977 candidates that sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2019. He noted that the 2020 admission exercise has kicked off, and asked tertiary institutions to proceed with the conduct of 2020/2021 admissions following the approved guidelines. Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, in his remarks, urged JAMB and tertiary institutions to consider candidates with the previous year’s Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and other qualifying results to proceed with the admission process. He promised that the government will make an adequate arrangement that will accommodate applicants who would be taking the examination when the opportunity to do so is worked out. ‘As major stakeholders, we must jointly come up with reactions that would realign our programmes to these new realities. While these reactions are being fine-tuned to check their capacities and capabilities to withstand the new reality, JAMB and tertiary institutions could take advantage of the current situation and consider candidates with previous year’s Senior School Certificate Examination and other qualifying results, to proceed on with the admission process. ‘Whatever arrangement that the country comes up with, in the long run, will surely accommodate those who will be taking the examination when the opportunity to do so is worked out,’ he explained. The Policy Meeting, which is, usually attended by heads of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, heralds the commencement of admission processes in tertiary institutions. Decisions on admission cut-off points for all institutions are taken at the meeting. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/jamb-kicks-off-2020-admission-exercise/amp/

Nairaland / General / See Pictures From The Memorial Of George Floyd by domesifa(m): 10:14pm On Jun 04, 2020 |
The casket of George Floyd sits before the podium during his memorial service at North Central University, Thursday, June 4, in the U.S. city of Minneapolis. Mourners gathered Thursday in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the first of three memorials for George Floyd, the man whose death in police custody has led to more than a week of nationwide protests demanding justice and systemic reforms. Civil rights leader the Rev. Al Sharpton led Thursday’s private service for family and friends. “We remember the long list of those that were killed unjustifiably by law enforcement and those that were killed unjustifiably because of double standards, bigotry and racism,” Sharpton said in a social media post hours before the service. “We think of their loved ones, we think of what they could have been. We think of the contributions that they could have made, and then we get up and do something about achieving justice and fairness.” A public viewing and private service is scheduled for Saturday in North Carolina, the state where Floyd was born, followed by a large service Monday in Houston where he spent most of his life. Protesters welcomed the move by prosecutors in the state of Minnesota to charge three additional officers in connection with Floyd’s death, and demonstrations Wednesday night in numerous cities were once again largely peaceful. https://www.voanews.com/usa/mourners-honoring-george-floyd-us-protesters-demand-reforms

Health / Covid-19 Deaths: Trump Orders American Flags To Be Flown At Half-staff - Photos by domesifa(m): 6:15pm On May 22, 2020 |
President Donald Trump has ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff for a three-day period in remembrance of Americans who have lost their lives due to the coronavirus outbreak. He made the announcement late Thursday on Twitter at the same time he said the lowered flags Monday also will honor servicemen and women “who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation,” as the U.S. marks Memorial Day. Meanwhile, Michigan's attorney general said Trump may not be invited back to the state if he refuses to wear a face mask in public. Trump visited a Ford auto factory Thursday near Detroit that has been converted into a plant to build ventilators. All of the Ford executives who were showing Trump around the plant were wearing face masks. But Trump, as he has always done, refused to wear one. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said it isn’t just Ford Motors’ policy that all visitors to its plants wear a mask – it is also state law. https://www.voanews.com/covid-19-pandemic/trump-orders-us-flags-half-staff-covid-19

Politics / Covid-19: Akwa Ibom State Govt Slashes Salaries Of Political Appointees By 20% by domesifa(m): 5:22pm On May 19, 2020 |
PRESS RELEASE In response to the prevailing economic realities of dwindling revenues, caused by the crash in the price of crude oil in the global market, His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, has painfully directed, the slashing of salaries of all political office holders by 20%. His Excellency the Governor was confronted with an urgent need to take decision on either of two painful options: continue to pay the current salaries for a while and end up being totally unable to pay same subsequently or spread the discomfort (20% cut) sustainably over a period of time pending the return of crude oil price to normalcy in the global market. We must not forget that it was by the same ancient principle of " necessity is the mother of invention", that led to the establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Post COVID-19 ECONOMIC RECONSTRUCTION COMMITTEE by His Excellency the Governor, to recommend navigable routes out of this global economic morass for our State. Let us all know and appreciate the fact that these measures are temporary. Akwa Ibom State Government will transparently resume full payment of salaries when this dark cloud PASSES. God bless Akwa Ibom State. Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem Secretary to the State Government
