I just saw this post from a nairaland moderator and it took me back to how many of us felt exactly this same way back then.

I remember seeing this post then and Wondering if this person was my clone. I would like to know his views now sha after the last 8 years. Read and see how the mood really was, this time 8 years ago.

OAM4J:
Some months ago, I wrote a piece on why I think Jonathan should not be re-elected in 2015 and I did promise when asked on the thread to let the people know my opinion on Buhari’s 2015 presidential ambition. I think the time is right to talk about this since the general has formally declared to run. Unfortunately, my thread on Jonathan went with the data challenge that affected Nairaland. But for those who didn’t read it and are interested in reading it, you can find it here: http://oam4j..com/2014/04/why-jonathan-should-not-be-re-elected.html

Let me digress a bit and talk about my preferred candidates… If God calls on me today and tells me he is going to let me singlehandedly decide who should be the next president of Nigeria, then come May 2015 Madam “Due Process” Oby Ezekwesili will be sworn in as the next president. This is one person I believe understands the challenges of Nigeria and knows what must be done to move Nigeria on the path of greatness. Madam Oby is one courageous woman who I believe will without fear of favour pilot the affair of this nation like a true mother to greatness. Till date the government of the day is yet to take up her challenge for an open debate. I was also not surprised with her frank and sincere speech when APC invited her to their meeting.

But I doubt the political parties of the day will field someone like her. I also don’t see the likes of Dangote, Otedola etc putting their money in her campaign. But should this woman decide to contest for the highest office one way or the other, she has my support and vote, even if am sure she will not win.

My second preferred candidate is Babatunde Raji Fashola: In 2007 I was rooting for Funsho Williams as the next governor of my state - Lagos, then Funsho Williams was killed and I shifted my support for Jimi Agbaje. I disliked the way Tinubu came up with Fashola because at the back of my mind I felt he was trying to push his “boy-boy” on us, and I felt bad when he won but hoped for the best. But 2 years down the lane I came to Nigeria again and I saw a new and better Lagos. I breathe True Fresh-Air at Oshodi and drove on tarred road to my house unlike before. Everywhere I went I saw Fashola’s government working. And I said ‘thank God Fashola won’. Needless to say I supported his re-election in 2011.

With Fashola as the president of this country, I see our power problem finally solved and massive construction everywhere and Nigeria joining the league of developed Nations.

But in 2015, I doubt majority from the North will support any southern presidential candidate because they still feel cheated with the death of Yar’Adua. And all the likes of Peter Obi need to do is campaigned that Fashola ‘deported’ thousands of Ndigbos from Lagos and Fashola is Awolowo’s pikin... your guess is as good as mine on possible outcomes.

Even if Fashola does not become a president in 2015 I hope for the sake of the nation’s progress he is made the Power or Works’ Minister should the opposition win.

Now back to Buhari, in 2011, I supported and campaigned for this general and truly believed he could make a difference if elected, but it didn’t come to be. So I expected Buhari to follow through his promise of not contesting again. What I had hoped for was Buhari becoming a model to young, bright, fairly honest and courageous people to take over from him, giving them all the moral supports they need to succeed. But that didn’t happen.

The question therefore is: If I have to pick between Jonathan and Buhari who will I support?

While I would have preferred a more articulate and younger Buhari, I will certainly not choose or support a man that think stealing is not corruption... definitely not Jonathan. My views about him from my write up have not changed. So I will pick Buhari over Jonathan by miles. Buhari's records as Petroleum Minister, head of state and chairman of PTF speak volume.

I don’t place Buhari in the same intellectual capacity with Oby and Fashola, but what Buhari lacks in this department he has more in integrity, courage and ability to identify capable hands and use them. If we must face reality, as things stands in the opposition now, Buhari has more chances to send Mr I-had-no-shoe back to Otueke with million pairs of shoes to last him three lifetimes than any other opposition candidate.

…if we are unhappy with what we have, the logical thing to do is to attempt to change it with our votes and to change the next one too if we do not find what we want until we find what we all want. That is when the people would truly have attained power” – Babatunde Fashola

Let me end on a light note with something I observed here on Nairaland and other social media; anytime Buhari’s name is mentioned I see PDP supporters and Jonathanians suddenly become special consultants/advisers for the oppositions on how to choose the best presidential candidate. They will suggest 'better' candidates, analyse how Buhari is unelectable and how Buhari’s candidacy means easy passage for Jonathan. But IMO, I think they are afraid of Buhari. If they are sure Buhari is a walk-over for Jonathan, they will be encouraging the opposition to field him rather than advising them to choose another.

Thanks for reading.

watch as they keep mute and silent to this question

Me I don't like to do sidetalk or side shot, I call them out directly, why would none of these educated people or regular commenters here not be bold enough to stand up and call raumdeuter out??

Those things were too outrageous not to provoke anybody, so why the silence from these esteemed individuals??

Why would ibime, afrodoc2, obianojazz who are also abroad and who saw those evil thoughts from raumdeuter not call him out and say, bro, you are as wrong as could be, these thoughts do not belong in the 21st century?

When these people saw dayo weaponized the poverty tag, why did they not come out and say bro, using poverty to laugh at someone is extremely tasteless and an abuse of privilege? What did they do? They cheered him on.

I'm now seeing that this may just be a cult afterall.

Ibime, afrodoc2, pastor skimpledawg, popziano, obainojazz, oasis007.

All of you have shown empathy with izzuo based on his perseverance and hardship with Nigeria's unfavorable economic climate. Why did none of you call out raumdeuter when he weaponized the poverty tag just yesterday??

Why did none of you directly confront raumdeuter for his radical extremism.
All of you could see the extreme hate on display by raumdeuter in those posts revealed, how could you all afford to be silent? Now what motivates your show of empathy, is it because this same black Hitler has now led the calls to empathize with izzuo?

Are we all in a cult that I wasn't aware of??

The very same people who were hailing raumdeuter, a confirmed black Hitler for weaponizing poverty and use it as a sole point of insult are the very same people now showing empathy because the same person led the calls to empathize with him.

Please someone should tell me that this is not a cult.

I have noticed here that there is gang mentality in football section..

No one has refused to say this but I'll say it.. no one here feeds me..

There is some sect of people here that worship some certain monikers here especially those that stays abroad..

That don j post where he asked nihilist for 7m was a subtle dig, infact it was a joke and not like he was begging..

But dayo twisted it to his own favour and was using it to jibe him.. no one was able to call dayo out, maybe out of fear or out of maybe sometimes you might win his giveaway..

People were lynching on don j and I for once liked how he took on y'all multitudes that came at him..

There are people here that licks ass of certain abroadians here..

Y'all are fvcking hypocrites..

Happy sunday

Like broo the herd mentality here is as strong as could ever be. It's like its a cult here with leadership.

I just exposed dayo as Nigerian Hitler living in America and none of these people apart from roland17 could tackle him, they were as silent as can be. Even the ones I'm sure strongly opposed his views and sentiments expressed on those expose.

They were there cheering him on when he was mocking my imaginary poverty. Those things didn't get to me one bit because I know my own privilege but I could only imagine how those who are truly poor here reading those things would feel.

Look at how everyone here now is congratulating izuchukwu for his perseverance and empathizing with him now. This is the very same way they empathized with me when my relatives died.

Let izzuo just make any mistake of getting into a seriously heated argument with any of these prominent monikers tomorrow, watch how that person would make a complete mockery of izzuo and call him hungry and watch how these same people would cheer that person and not dare to call out that person. It's like its a cult where no one wants to call out the "abroadians" as you said.

I think izzuo has just signed his death knell on ever getting into any sort of heated argument because the poverty tag is about to be unleashed on him.
