You are right bro. As a matter of fact, I did a rigorous search on other online travel agencies and wakanow had the best deal. I settled for Qatar to Chicago for a little over 478k for 10th. I was wondering whether its possible to go to New York, then take a train to Chicago...? Would that be cheaper? I have a friend that is yet to purchase her ticket and the info would help her decide

Check Amtrak, Greyhound and Megabus. It should be cheaper but also consider the luggage and the stress. New York to Chicago is quite a distance.

I bought a one way flight ticket from a ticket agent through ethihad airline for 468500 naira from Lagos to Orlando Florida with 2 stop overs in abudabi and Dublin for 10th of August flight date on Monday and I was called by the agent today that the airline won't take me to Orlando Florida except if I bought return ticket. My money was refunded to me and I lost 28000 naira I had to look for a cheaper airline to New York since I couldn't get to Florida and I paid 387000 naira through air maroc for 7th of August flight date.

You should not have any business with these agent people. If you went throught the rigors of US admission, paid all the fees, WES, SEVIS, VISA and all, you shouldn't find it difficult booking your flight yourself. The agents barely save you any money cos you have to pay for the flight and pay them as well. Safe trip on 7th August. Remember travel script wink

Abeg where can one find cheaper flights? My destination is Chicago Airport and the prices I'm seeing on travelstart.ng are mind-boggling shocked Like half a million and above

Also, can anyone comment on the services of Turkish Airways? From flight experience to layover experience to food

wakanow.com is often cheaper than travelstart.

I have been a silent follower of this forum. Regrettably, I  have been delayed a Visa this morning at the US consulate for the 6:30a.m appointment. My greatest fear actually came to pass; I was denied on the basis that I already hold a masters degree in Chemical Engineering and that why would I want to go for another masters degree‎.

I would say to go again. This is your first time. You might meet another Vo who would totally understand. It's important to craft a good answer to the question of why another Masters degree because it's likely to come again. What you were already thinking sounds like a good answer to me. You applied for a Phd but you were offered an MSc so as to complete some courses...
Pray very well as well and fast if you can.
While you are doing this, you may also be looking at the possibility of Phd admission for Spring 18. PhD intake in spring is usually rare but there may be one or two available. Most importantly for now, focus on going again and do you best to answer that question. You may use google to check up reason for "why dual masters degree or double masters degree". You might find some solid reasons you can use.

All the best.

hello everyone,
please I need your advice. my flight will be arriving at JFK by 3.25pm. I want to make booking for greyhound bus scheduled for either (5:15pm or 10:15pm). i don't know how long I will spend at the airport POE. so please, which of the time (5:15pm or 10:15pm) do you suggest I book for?...looking forward to your response.
Regards

3:25pm is paper time. You have no idea the actual airline delays you will experience. New York traffic has been talked about here. Factor that in + POE. I will use the 10:15pm if it were me. Greyhound allows you to use an earlier bus schedule if you arrive on time when the earlier bus is not fully booked. They do this at no extra cost.

All the best.

The school sent it through the email and when i asked why they didn't reply, that was how i used a printed copy to go to the Embassy ,why is it going to be a problem at the POE ?...

Print out the email correspondences and hold it with you at POE, both the one that sent you the I-20 and the one where you asked the question.

Thank you all for your wonderful support here. I have a question. it may sound quit embarrassing. I am applying to West Texas A&M University
International Graduate Admissions
Spring 2018
...I am at the last page of the application form where I am told to pay 75$ application fee...but I am surprised about there application method...they didn't ask me to summit my transcript or certificate... Please is this method of application okay...I am new to all this?

You need to go to the department or program website you are applying to and read the application process properly. Sometimes this information is also found on the graduate programs website. Perhaps the application form does not require uploading additional documents but there would be another way those documents would be sent. Check properly before you submit and pay application fee.

All the best.

For my interview, apart from my Sevis registration and receipt, 1-20, D-160 , Confirmation page and statement of account, is there any other thing I need?

And do my printouts need to be in coloured?

FORM I-20
INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT
SEVIS FEE RECEIPT
ADMISSION LETTER
ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS (LOCAL AND US EVALUATED)
ACADEMIC CERTIFICATES
VISA FEE RECEIPT
APPOINTMENT CONFIRMATION
BANK STATEMENT
DS 160 CONFIRMATION
TEST SCORE REPORTS

If your interview is simple and straightforward, only the first 2 will be required. Interviews however can get convoluted and any of the others may be asked. Color prints dey shine teeth like this man grin and look beautiful but not necessary.

Hello all,

Please would it be possible to upload a photo again after completing the DS160 form? It kept refusing the photo I uploaded. When I submitted the form, I was prompted that I could bring a 5cm by 5cm photograph to the embassy but someone just told me that I would not be permitted to enter if I did not upload on the website.

Once the form is submitted, it cannot be accessed anymore. The website say this and I guess I have heard a VO say it here on Nairaland. But hey, if the website allowed you to submit without uploading a photo, then that should be permissible. It will take a few lines of code on the website to make photo upload compulsory which the embassy could easily implement if they wanted photo upload to be compulsory.

If still in doubt, you can shot the embassy a quick email. People can misinform.

Foreigntraveler:
I'm a student from the US on research internship here in Lagos, Nigeria under a tourist visa (was I was specifically instructed to apply for) with intentions to be here for a total of 8 weeks. When applying for the visa my official letter of invitation and flight itinerary specifically state that i will be in the country for 8 weeks (2 months), yet when i arrived through customs at the airport in Lagos the office gave me a stamp that only permitted me to stay for 1 month. I tried to bring this issue to his attention and he told me that i would have to return to the to receive another stamp at an undisclosed price. Naturally i thought that it was a scam that I have been warned about prior to traveling. I brought this issue to a Nigerian man whose literal job is to take care of me and the students i traveled with and any legal issues that may arise for us. He said that he knew a guy who would be able to get a stamp for us for 35,000N (100 US dollars). This is the same amount that a fellow student is paying to extend his stay/visa here and I have no need to extend anything at all. I also have informed my professors and coworkers (at the university I am working at) about the situation and they all attempted to strongly persuade me not to pay any money as there was something very fishy going on. They are in the works of contacting persons they know at the immigration services in order to find the solution to my problem, it has been awhile and I haven't gotten a definite response. I am in assuming that receiving another 1 month stamp should be costing me money and if so how much should the action actually cost? Why didn't they allow me to be authorized to stay the entire 2 months like I asked?

It's very sad. I hate it when people hear bad things about Nigeria from their country only to come here and experience the same thing. When I talk to white people here in Nigeria, I ask them how their initial ideas about Nigeria compare to the experience they now have being on ground and I am always thrilled when the response is positive. Believe me or not, I asked this same question to the Vo that interviewed me for visa.

The man who is supposed to take care of you should man up to the Nigerian Immigration Services and do his job. If he does not, you can look up the Immigration address in Lagos online and visit them yourself. You never know you can meet a staff there that could solve the problem. Again, consider visiting your country's embassy (if they are here in Nigeria). I say this because embassies have strong relationship with Immigration Services (for passport verification and stuff) and you might get help there.

I am hoping that this will be solved and you will have a good positive experience here that you will take home with you.

best,

Me: Gm ma and how was your night?
VO: Fine (with a big sincere smile), documents pls.
VO: You have been here before, have I spoken with you? No madam. Ok, hold on lemme check through my system. Documents pls...
Me: I was about passing docs, wanted to include SEVIS receipt Then she smiled and said, No just your passport and I20...its confusing right? you get to a point you need to present all the documents and at some other points, you present only some...i only smiled in the affirmative, even though I knew the right docs to present, make the smile just continue. For my mind..baba God thank you, this is a good sign. And it really gave me some calm.

(I cant remember the few questions she asked before this next one)

VO: How many other schools did you apply to? And mention them?
Me: I applied to three other schools, they are Illinois state uni, Georgia southern uni and eastern Illinois state uni
VO: How many admitted you and name them.
Me: Georgia southern, Illinois state uni and Mtsu and awaiting a decision from the fourth school. I was actually admitted to EIU, I just mistakenly skipped it and didn't want to correct myself since she wont verify.
VO: I see you were admitted to schools in three different states. Why did you chose mtsu.
Me: Aside the fact that I was offered a full tuition waiver by this school which includes a generous monthly stipend, I will be working with..vo cuts in
VO: What was the basis of this waiver? is it academic or what?.. Tel me about it.
Me: It was awarded due to my excellent academic profile, My SOP, test scores, vo cuts in.
VO: You took any tests, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT.
Me: Yes, I took the GRE and TOEFL.
VO: What was your score in the GRE?
Me: I had an aggregate score of 297, 150 in the quant, cuts in...oh don't worry, that's all I need to know. The total score. VO: You have siblings, how many of them do you have? How many boys and girls?
Me: 2 boys and 2 girls. All younger ones
VO: Where are they?
Me: Here in Nigeria..
VO: Anyone in the US?
Me: Not at all
VO: So who will take care of expenses?( I asked her to repeat on this)
Me: I have a full tuition waiver and my dad will take care of the rest.
VO: What does he do.
Me: He is a civil servant with the ogun state govt and owns ..vo cuts in again.
VO: How old are you?
Me: XY years old, wll be AB in October.
VO: What's your highest qualification?
Me: A higher national diploma
VO: Ooh you went to a polytechnic...
Me: That's correct ma
VO: What's your graduate course
Me: Industrial maint Engr tech
VO: When did you finish high school?
Me: In 2005...
VO: Ok good...btw the year you finished high sch and your polytechnic , What were you doing?
Me: Told her everything I did, she was patient here to hear my stories and at a point she just said go on, I just want to know all you did during those time( here I mentioned everything that reflects on my ds160 in this area, i could see she was asking those questions from my ds160)
VO: When did you graduate?
Me: March 2015
VO: What have you been doing since 2015 that you graduated?...
Me: I have been working at XYZ nig ltd, as a maintenance technician.
VO: So, Why are you going for this degree at this time?
Me: After my graduation from my first diploma, I set a career plan to work for a maximum of six years after then, then proceed for a higher degree and now I feel the time is right..bla bla bla, can't remember how I ended this ( I almost messed this up, God just helped keep the words coming).... And she returned my papers and held on to my passport and uttered some words.

Very nice transcript. Your Vo was in good spirit and that can make a big difference.

Congrats!

Seems like Abuja might be harsher than Lagos based on a couple of recent transcripts.

I suggest you start taking seriously the issue of the supernatural and starting praying for real help in this area.

Reasons been that I prep my Wife for summer got her admission and even did mock interview for her just a week and she got it now in the US

Secondly have helped two of my friends going for same course and they got it

My Bros, I have two things to say:

I am sorry to say this but it appears that you are finding it difficult to shake off the previous failures from you. It is creeping into your current performance. You will need to really pray and fast (though you said you did that).

I will also suggest you do some self talking. Use a pen and a paper and right down some motivational statements you want to say to yourself. Stand in the mirror and look yourself in the eye and say those! Say them until you believe them. You need to know that you are not a failure. Working in the bank for years and having helped other people make it means you are good enough and you can make it too. You were interviewed before you got your job and I'm sure you have done couple of presentations at work. Think about those past successes.

Use google and get some more motivational stuff for yourself and use them. If you have a motivational book on your shelf, use it. This will help to remove the past ordeals from your mind. Do this alongside with prayers to God too.

Have you been doing this Visa interview in one location i.e Lagos or Abuja? If so, think about switching locations.

You can PM me if you want for further discussion.

Guys, I graduated from secondary school 2015 and went to lautech for bsc. Unfortunately the school has been on strike for 15 good months. I decided to apply for admission in USA and luckily they gave me computer science. Already booked my appointment for next week

My Question::::
If they ask why am I just applying to university now? what will I say

OR

What have you been doing after your secondary school?
Any help please because I know they will ask.

Like has been said, you are the one that knows the best answer to the question, one can only offer suggestions.
On the first one, you are currently a university student only your school have gone on interminable strike and you cannot continue to waste precious time waiting for a strike you do not know when it would end. Do not sound frustrated though but rather sound like you are so taken by academics and studies and you can't lose more time.

On the second question, you have to think about the creative things you have done with your time after sec school. Have you volunteered, been employed, done personal business, done some short courses or training etc. Think deep and create a good statement to answer the question.

All the best.

Hello house, please can you kindly provide views on this situation? Thanks in advance.

A friend's interview was approved last week Tuesday and he was given the white paper. He was told he would be contacted to go pick up. He tracked his status on Friday and some minutes ago this morning and he says it's status is on administrative processing. The normal wait time should be 2 or 3 days after interview.

Please is there any among those approved last week that has picked up their passport?Thing is he wasn't told anything other than your visa is approved and you'll be contacted to go pick it up. Gurus please what does this indicate? He is quite worried and his school resumes on August 14th.

Thanks for your views.

Collection usually takes 2 business day or 3. I suggest to go the the designated DHL centre and try. If it's not there yet, email the embassy and narrate as you did above.

All the best.
