I didn't see it. Link please? Oh, and thanks for the costing.

No link per se, just rants on I think the Benz thread. They eventually had to get someone from Mandilas Lagos to come down to fix immobiliser and key issues on the car. Terrible indictment on their staff capacity in Calabar. Sometimes they looked and appeared as clueless as I was, good thing I had a lot of folks on here who I could call for remote assistance and diagnosis.

You've been very lucky because that's the reason all these cars keep coming to us for RTF. We have I think 4 at the shop right now all with the same issue. I posted videos of two.

Saw the videos. Glad, proper auto shops like yours are around. I pray with time there are other radautoworks franchisees around the country. Already documented my sad experience with a Toyota dealership in Calabar with regards to that Lexus IS.

Hallmark of people who don't know what they are doing so they change the whole system figuring they'll catch the problem.

Curious how much it cost you for new manual and installation both times .

Good thing, i keep invoices. An average manual compressor costs between 30k-45k depending on assurance . Usually buy in the 40k range inclusive of waybill from Onitsha or Clegg in Ojuelegba. Condenser costs between 15-17k, mostly Chinese clones. Expansion valves are 3k fixed, again Chinese clones. Freon (I usually get this on my own from ebay or pelican parts, so can't put a cap on the price)

Labour inclusive of AC system vacuuming, 15-20k depending on my kazeem's mood and availability.

Usually costs around 80k give or take, and maybe I've been lucky to have engines with enough hp, so I've never felt those often reported vibrations or subtle loss of power when AC is engaged. In short, I never turn my AC on when I turn off the ignition. Everything is clockwork.

**in all of this, I've not added the welding of the aluminium pipes to ensure it sits properly, I believe thebigkendo has experience in this field

On the same car? And as previously mentioned, it's a myth created by kazeems that a condenser is necessary . All that's necessary is the expansion valve/orifice time and flushing the system. O-rings are recommended but not compulsory.

Nope, not same car. First was a Clk 230k, second the w211.

Come to think of it, no Kazeem in my area will fix your A.C if you're unwilling to change the condenser/dryer. It's like an unwritten rule.

Good to know that a proper flush can save us more money.

I once went to an ac technician for a compressor replacement, guess what? 95% of people who came there choose the Manual option. Not after hearing if e pick you can't return it after installation. Meaning OYO undecided

Haha, the second hand type. I will never in my life buy a toks automatic compressor (only guarantee na once e pump, and dem go clear u say dem no dey test am for ground).

Manual all the way

These things aren't cast in stone. Spending over 250-300k on AC repairs in a Mercedes or Infiniti with shitty resale values? I'll pass.

On a Toyota or a Lexus, just maybe.

Oga Lejeun I greet you. I understand thebigkendo and Aunty Rad's concerns and the true position is replacing a bad automatic compressor in a luxury vehicle with an OEM/Genuine one will cost an average of 170—200k, minus the aftermarket Condenser/dryer and possible expansion valve, freon and workmanship.

Not many Nigerians can afford to spend that much at a go for a convenience feature that can be properly Kazeemed, I fall within this category.

Been there twice, went for the manual compressor with a relay twice. Will I do it again?

So what are you saying in essence ?

Back your statements with facts or geddifok outta here.

princeonlinebiz:

Yes I agree.
I made my confirmations already as I usually do before posting this car.

Three reasons why it's so..
1 - There are a few things to repair which will will be discussed in details when I am contacted.
2 - The price is only slightly negotiable.
3 - Owner just dropped the price after much persuasion from me and he needs money now due to the Festive season.
I don't load much on these cars at all just so it will get sold as soon as possible and another one comes it.
I am not greedy and I know everyone looks out for Good deals.
I usually advice people coming for inspection to come along with a mechanic that know cars very well just incase he or she does not know much or have any doubts.
Thanks.

Much better clarification my guy, good luck with your sales

I work with budget friendly prices with a decent working condition and I try my best to reveal if there are any major faults with the car.
No one is perfect but one of the most important thing is the willingness to keep on learning both from your Success and failures and become a better person.

Kindly contact me for more info on the car.
Thanks.

Dear OP - I understand the hustle perfectly - you've done nothing wrong putting a car up for sale. However, for a face-lifted 211 in good working condition, this price is just too good to be true, kindly confirm from the owner why this car is going for that amount.

@Adexfem what's your story? there are two sides to every story, from this point things are not looking too good for you. Its unnecessary to lower the clearing cost just to get the job off the o.p.
You can as well come out to explain what transpired and the way foward. Most importantly,it would be nice if you can explain in detail what went wrong.

I'll let my manual do the talking. You must know by now I'm a zombie, I just follow whatever my manual says. cheesy

Here in the image below, it states the oil is suitable for temperatures between neg 30 to 40°C

So you can start by showing us how the temperature in this climate of ours, especially in PHC where I stay falls below or above the image shown below

And my engine is above 100k miles, still runs like its new. Infact I'm at 184k miles and these days I hardly ever remember to check my dip stick cheesy

The closest experience I've had with oil burn is reading Eddee's post on cartalk cheesy

Mehn, I don tire for here - the misinformation na A1. As recent as February this year my kabu kabu w211 still ran on 5w-30. In short, I researched extensively, called people that were more knowledgeable on these things before switching to 15w50. They all had one advise, if you're switching oils based on engine issues, decrease your change intervals - I refuse to use 20w50 just yet (my dad uses Forte Oil for an S Class, very sad)... But he swears by it, and besides he can afford a new engine on a whim - I can't! .

Oga this is simple engineering, science and physics not some dru stuff that needs parable

Physics 101

My guy what is it with physics?

Even Dru has decided to sit this one out, tells you an awful lot.

As long as you follow the maintenance schedule in your car’s owner’s manual (assuming your dinosaur came with one). "It spells out when to take care of every service for the life of your car, including routine oil and filter changes, tire rotations, and more major service such as timing-belt replacement. Simply follow the routine spelled out for you. Even missing one oil change can contribute to premature engine wear, or cause damage and reduce the chances of your car remaining reliable for long."

Common sense (and huge maintenance and repair bills) not "engineering, science and physics" will keep your Benz running forever.

I don't do Lexus talks on a benz thread .... Oga ... Once ur car has done over 100k miles trust me the engine has seen the better days ... In physics it's called depreciation... The salvage value has gone

Did you do physics In school

Dude once your car is 2007 model trust your engine has seen better days

We don't argue these facts ! It's simple science.

Or are you decieving yourself that your engine is top notch

Dude wears and tears have set it....friction has taken place

Why can't we hold civil convos on here, without making it personal?

Anyway, I'm an accountant, I'll permit you to lecture me more on salvage value - or the glaring fact that depreciation expense is used to allocate the cost of a tangible asset over its useful life. Humor me more, since I may not know how to determine the book value of an asset sorry in this case a liability.

You've a personal car and consider it an asset? Apart from the obvious ease of movement, how much does it make for you? Can you quantify the amount the car saves you? Do you know how a balance sheet works in real life? The question is what is your car's current Book Value? Maybe physics can solve it for you

Mercedes C300 2008 Or E350 2007

Thinking of upgrading from a C240 2003, the cars withing my budget are either an E350 2007 or C300 2008, the challenge I am having is that I like the 2007 E350 because it has more room and has this matured feel. On the other hand the C300 was face lifted in the year 2008, while the E350 got a face lift in the year 2010( i cant afford), so am thinking if i go ahead with the E-class after four years the car might start to look very old but with the C300 it wouldn't look that old. I need people opinions and reasons why they would go for any of the two options .

Imho newer is better in every ramification. (fun fact, do you know that the w211's parts are more expensive than the w204's? That alone should help you make up your mind given your budget constraints - HeavenlyBang and Nurey over to you
