Two ways of looking at this:

1. " There’s No Such Thing As Bad Publicity"

2. "All publicity is good if it is intelligent”

Whichever is the case....traction is being built around certain monikers, and nairaland gains a ton of traffic

Good for business you would say.

Peace.

Out.

Long epistle alert grin grin

In Business school, the love isn't enough to be shared! Everything here apart from pure fraud cases is banter (some people will say there's malicious intent somewhere, I don't begrudge them their views), this drives traffic to their hustle, most people believe if you have a business then you must be modest and keep your head above troubled waters always, well it works sometimes but I am fairly certain that this does not work for salesmen - a little issue/controversy here and there generates what greases the palms!

People don't see the free business lectures on here. Ikenna still does consultations and vehicle purchases for clients offline, he makes his money easily. Gazz is still picking, the harsh words don't hurt these men. You can't be an active member on Cartalk for more than a decade and not have thick skin. Both men are very approachable offline, calm and collected! I've been very lucky to meet most of the people on here offline and I know sometimes not to take their e-fights seriously. I for one like and respect Gazz a lot, when I started learning DIYs from my Dad who actually fixes his cars himself, I will sometimes have Gazz on the phone for more than an hour on multiple occasions, he's always willing to help.

I've met Ikenna - he's not as fiery as he is here, he's a good listener and actually wears a smile and doesn't charge the consultation always, unless it involves proprietary information.

Honorable mentions to Nurey and Oluwaseunla - there was a time they did everything they could to help me find an S-Class, very professional and tolerant and till date, they are still helpful. There are a lot of people on nairaland that will help you if you know how to ask! I remember when you offered me steady support offline for my w211 and even the contacts for your Benz people in Port Harcourt. I'm certain Ikenna isn't going anywhere!

Edit: I plan on meeting Radautoworks after the lockdown - roam around and look for deals in that shop. I even forgot to add Kingreign - I remain loyal!

I think I beat you to the Peugeot dream. Loaned one from my uncle to use for site work. Only thing nice about it is the stiff suspension and a firm steering feedback, even a Yaris/city will definitely give this old timer a run for its money. Car's color and plate number means I can go anywhere without Police or Army harassment - imho, this is the biggest advantage of owning a Pijo in Naija!

Oh, it's a stick! There's nothing great about driving a manual in this age and time, all the purists can wax philosophical about how real men are supposed to only drive sticks. Me, I didn't come to this life to suffer. I'm returning it next week!

I understand you perfectly, I currently don't have any leads this year, what I applied and got is for a project starting next year. Did the review video. Walked through the capabilities of the Autel MaxiPRO. I have no regrets investing the huge sum in this tool. Really pleased smiley

Great job, really loved the review, I've subscribed asap. The TPMS capabilities will interest me a lot, currently have an annoying TPMS problem in a Charger, Tacoma and a Corolla. Stock rims, proper air pressure. Tried a couple scanners and they can't pinpoint the exact wheel(s) that has the faulty sensor(s), and local man will rather drive with the lights on, than replace all sensors on a whim!

On a lighter note, Dear Chukel and Rationalmind - I can confirm Piyke's voice is soothing and there were no unnecessary backhand comments or inclusion of devious innuendos in his video. He somehow managed to cover everything his scanner can do in less than 25 mins. Although, I'd like to know how the owner of the Accord felt with so many problems for a car that isn't up to 4 years old.

Baba, no be all NGOs hold am stand o! The CBOs/CSOs are mostly SSRs and can't afford to pay you above 100k due to budget constraints. However, they are the perfect learning and proving grounds, they usually have diverse thematic focus - that means you end up learning about programming that relates to Livelihoods, Cash Based Initiatives, Health, Education, WASH, TB, HIV, OVC, Camp Management, SGBV, Justice and Rights etc. The INGOs and SRs (Sub Recipients) are usually focused on one programming need at a time and will require people with proficient skills in that regard, also they can pay the fat salaries because they receive funding from institutional donors and can afford a huge wage bill. You can't work for any of them without the prerequisite experience or the equivalent in connections.

Downside: projects are contract based. You're always on the lookout for the next big job, I've worked in Maiduguri as recently as 2 years ago, Yola as recently as 15 months ago. My last job contract was Takum/Gembu Taraba ended in November, last year. Secured the bag for another starting next year January. So, I'm currently unemployed but living off the fruits of my earlier labor. And yes, engineers can get work but you must be prepared to look at the North East for opportunities.

Sorry I'm asking, what niche is that?
I myself ,I'm an accountant but not chartered yet .

I'm going to reproduce an exact answer I gave someone on here a while ago. Offer is still valid!

"Start building your accounting skills - professional certification is great if you can afford the ICAN classes. If not learn how to use Quickbooks/SAGE, since you have an Accounting background, brush up on your financial reporting for Not for Profits.

While you are it, take online courses on procurement/supply chain and taxation (basic treatments of income tax and WHT will suffice for now).

Show proof of progress in 6 months and remind me of this thread, I will guarantee you a physical interview for a project that starts next year."

You response is the closest to the answer. Perhaps, the thread isn't clear enough.

What I really want to know is:

If a programmer is working in an organization that depends on getting projects from clients like other companies or individuals, what is the fate of Programmers working in such an organization if the company does not have projects to work on for maybe 3 or 4 months?

I'll answer this question, once you can tell me who outsources to this organization the programmer in question works for.

Gbam!

My brother, it wasn't easy. Fresh out of NYSC (squandered all the allawee), struggling with professional exams, courses on taxation, supply chain management and general program management. Those 6 months roaming around Diplomatic Drive in Abuja weren't fun. No money, struggling to pay my rent in Jahi as my Dad felt I should return home and sit in, while he works his contacts for those type of job placement promises that take 10 years for fulfillment. The people I met around that vicinity shaped my outlook on life, I realized wealth was not made just transferred - you just need to know where to look!

Honestly it isn't worth it working for free for any organisation. I come from a marine engineering background and my first job abroad was also a volunteer job. It makes no sense seeing how much certifications in that field cost plus there isn't any assurance of any job after getting them sad.

I am a chartered accountant, I don't bother about practicing as it becomes monotonous after a while. Neither do I harbor grandiose thoughts of working for the big 3 accounting firms. I have a niche and that pays my bills and keeps my family happy - I've never wanted too much from this life!

Yeah you learn the programmer has learnt. He has at least grasped the basics of a programming language to get a job. And it's a fast moving field that calls for continuous learning and development. Those courses and data don't come cheap. Working for such amount isn't worth it.

I understand you perfectly, the Nigerian situation doesn't give you that option. I'm an accountant, and now have the luxury of choosing my jobs. Before 6 years ago, I didn't have the luxury nor the necessary connections to leverage upon. Now I do! He can keep his head down, dig into reserves he may not realize he has and weather this storm, iron sharpens iron and you sound like the type of guy that knows this too well!

He bought the car in US as mechanic special, with description : need new engine' when the car arrived, he had to change the engine actually. And then the car refused to start. One electrician put scanner and it threw out ECM on car not compatible. So he bought a new ECM and still the car refused to start .

You dont buy a car that's not 'Nigerian friendly' with a bad motor! Your car's PCM regulates many of its important functions and has a direct impact on whether the replaced engine runs or not! I suspect the part nos don't match or the replacement 'brain box' is also faulty, I'll advise you seek a second hands-on opinion before throwing further parts at it. If you're in Lagos, you know the drill already! If not state your location and the good folks on here can point a competent person your way!

Hello everyone, I did a bit of DIY on my c300 today. Ordered a hi-def reverse camera and finally got it yesterday. I installed the camera in the license plate lamp slot, ran the wires through the trunk to the cabin and down to the radio head unit. This is where I have a problem. In the tutorial I saw on youtube, the power cables were at the camera end so power could be taken from the fuse box in the trunk but for the camera I got, the power cables are at the video plug end of the setup where the video cord connects to the radio. I've plugged in the video cable and I know how to configure the camera to start being read by command but it can't work yet because the camera needs a constant power source and I don't know where to tap that in the head unit area.
I was considering tapping from under the cigarette lighter, the voltage supplied there is same as recommended for the camera but I'm not too sure.
Then I'm not sure where the blue wire in the photo goes, please advise if you have any thoughts.
Pic 1 is the setup up of the camera I bought
Pic 2 is what I've done so far (blue wire is at both camera and video cable end)

P.S. I understand some folks might be tempted to say i shouldn't have tried DIY but this wasn't about cutting cost, I wanted to do it myself coz I've always been interested in stuff like this and even a Merc isnt scared.

You've done great work so far, - contact fogman on here for proper guidance.

I've been planning/procrastinating to do same for more than four months now, so my bros can actually back out properly from the compound when I'm away, mine is a fairly straightforward reverse camera setup (rear view mirror not COMAND). I've lacked proper motivation to get on with it. I don't intend to remove my Sirius Radio - love the simplicity of it, Bluetooth, HDD. Don't care for the Satellite Radio/Navi that rarely works in Naija, when I have Maps.

Well done, once more!
