Former Secretary-General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Col. John IP Uba (retired), has lamented the state of affairs in the region, stating that with the balkanization of the North into 19 self-centeredly confiscated and badly configured states, all cherished legacies and patriotic zeal of Sir Ahmadu Bello seem to have been swept into the River Kaduna, except for a negligible few.

Col. Uba, (JP, FNIM), a member of ACF's Board of Trustees (BoT), representing Benue, also noted with dismay that Sir Ahmadu Bello's legacies have been killed or selfishly mismanaged, with only lip service being paid to his memory, making it easy for one to shed tears at how Sardauna's legacies have been killed.

The former military Governor of Kebbi State made these assertions in a paper he presented to ACF BoT members during a Board Meeting held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, in the Kaduna headquarters of the forum, which was obtained by our correspondent.

In the paper titled: "Brief Comments by Col. John JIP. Ubah (rtd)," the author stated, "I have opted to paraphrase my thoughts on paper for the BOT Meeting to avoid wasting the valuable time of the eminent senior citizens. President Bola Tinubu yesterday removed the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC and named Aminu Maida in his stead.

The removal was contained in a statement by the Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale which saw to a shake-up in the agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.

The statement by Ngelale, said: “In line with President Bola Tinubu’s determination to maximally leverage on Nigeria’s proven technological and digital economic prowess to reposition the nation’s economy toward greater financial inclusion, also announced the appointment of a new Special Adviser to the President on Technology and Digital Economy, Idris Alubankudi

The removal of Danbatta came as a surprise to the ICT sector professionals because he was only reappointed for a five-year second term in office, July 2020, meaning he had roughly two years away to complete his tenure.

However, Danbatta was not alone as the President also terminated the appointment of the recently appointed MD/CEO of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, NIGCOMSAT, Tukur Mohammed Lawal.

Delta State Police Command has arrested a teenager identified as Sunday Ebube Linus for raising a false alarm over the disappearance of his manhood.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the state Command, DSP Bright Edafe, while confirming Linus’ arrest also warned the public against jungle justice as a means of punishing offenders or criminals.

The PPRO wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday that “the 18-year-old suspect, Ebube Linus, on Sunday, 8th October 2023 at DBS Road Asaba, raised a false alarm that an old woman inside a tricycle touched him and his manhood (penis) disappeared”.

According to the PPRO, “Over 100 misguided touts gathered and mobbed this woman, stripping her naked and beating her to a stupor to the point of almost killing her”.

The police spokesman wrote further, “The Command was contacted and the DPO GRA division Asaba led policemen to the scene, rescued the woman, and arrested the suspect who we later discovered that nothing was wrong with him, as his manhood is intact.”

The PPRO noted that “Linus just lied against a poor woman, a mother, a daughter and a wife and now, the video of her being beaten and stripped naked is all over the internet.”

“Does this make any sense? Why embark on self-help? Why jungle justice?,” the police spokesman asked.

He however stated that the police is hunting for people in the video to be arrested and prosecuted alongside Linus who is the suspect.

Super Eagles B and FC Zurich midfielder, Ifeanyi Matthew, opens up on his journey from the domestic league to Europe and how he the ‘Naija spirit’ helped him resist bullies in Norway, in this interview with JOHNNY EDWARD

How did your football career begin?

I started playing football at a very tender age in Nigeria, and I played for FC Hearts, El-Kanemi Warriors and Kano Pillars. I had a dream of playing at the highest level and in the summer of 2016 I started to realise my dream when I joined Norwegian first division club Lillestrom SK and after some months I helped the team win the Norwegian Cup in 2017. The following year I had a big offer from Turkey’s Osmanlispor FK, now Ankaraspor, and I joined them on a season loan but I returned back to Norway as I didn’t really enjoy my football in Turkey.

What really happened in Turkey?

Nothing happened, it was just footballing reasons, but I’m happy where I am now at FC Zurich after a successful spell at Lillestrom.

As a midfielder, your goalscoring form was quite impressive in Norway. Twenty goals and 18 assists in 196 competitive games is quite a record for a central midfielder in six years…

(Cuts in) I played some of my best football at Lillestrom and that is not much of a surprise that the goals came in as well. I played under a coach who gave me the freedom to express myself and also join the team in attack as well. Besides, I was playing along with another Nigerian (Innocent Bonke) who was so good in his role too.

Which player did you look up to as a young midfielder?

My role model is former Ivorian international Yaya Toure. I loved watching him play and I tried to adapt his style to my game. The Ivorian is considered one of the greatest Africans to grace the game, with multiple trophies won in his career, including the Premier League, LaLiga, Champions League and Africa Cup of Nations. He is also a four-time recipient of the African Footballer of The Year award. Growing up, I looked up to Yaya. I used to watch a lot of his games. I watched him at Barcelona back in the day and when he was at Manchester City, even when I became a professional footballer because I’m the type of player that invests a lot of time in football. I watch what top midfielders do on the pitch and try to emulate them but I will say Yaya Toure was the biggest influence I had. I have similar strengths like him, not just in positional play, but also in playing against the ball. In all previous positions I have played in, I have shown willingness, just like Yaya, to take on responsibility.

Having played for former Nigeria Premier League champions Kano Pillars, how would you compare playing in Europe to NPFL?

My experience in European football has been amazing. I started in Norway, which was like my gateway to success in football. I left for Turkey, which was more competitive, and now in Switzerland, it’s a different ball game. So far, it has been a good experience. In Europe, the facilities are there, unlike in Nigeria. So, there’s a big difference. European Leagues are more attractive and lucrative than the NPFL. So many things need to be done to ensure our league compete with other leagues globally. We need to put some things in place like good infrastructure, proper officiating and other things to make our league attractive. But it was a league that I won a title and that reminds me of the NPFL. Playing for one of the biggest teams like Kano Pillars showcased my skills to the national team and the world.

You featured for the U-20 and the home-based Super Eagles under Sunday Oliseh. What was it like playing for the national team?

Playing for the national team was one of my best moments as a player. I was a member of the Flying Eagles team that won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal. It was our seventh U-20 AFCON title and it was memorable achieving the feat with the likes of Musa Mohammed, Taiwo Awoniyi, Obinna Nwobodo, Bernard Bulbwa, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Ojo Olorunleke and others. I scored three goals at that tournament. After the U-20 AFCON, I made the U-20 World Cup squad to New Zealand and then I was one of the players that was drafted to the home-based Eagles under coach Oliseh. That was the turning point. I had a good tournament at the African Nations Championship in Rwanda, though we didn’t qualify from the group stage, but we showed great promise and talent. Then I joined Lillestrom and was with the Super Eagles for some AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.

Since Oliseh’s exit, you were not considered again for a place in the Eagles?


Yes because I was part of the project he started and another coach came in and had other plans, but I’m still playing in a top league in Europe and I have a lot to offer the Eagles if I get another chance.

What can you offer the current Eagles side?

I’m a good option to this side and my wealth of experience will be a great addition if invited, but it remains the coach’s decision. I play regularly and from my position, I can create chances and score goals as well. So, in any position in midfield, I can help the team. I hope to prove my worth in the current team.

Have you been racially abused since you moved to Europe?

Not really, but I was bullied by some people around my neighbourhood in Oslo when I first arrived. They wanted to take advantage of me in a car park, but as a Naija boy I refused to be threatened. We settled the issue when some people intervened. They noticed I played for one of their big teams and we became friends afterwards, but I was more aware of my environment going forward. Naija boy no go carry last.

How did you adapt to the weather and food when you first arrived in Europe?

It was tough. No garri, no egusi soup at the start. It was all burger and juice, which wasn’t good for me, but I found a way around it after I located where Nigerian foods were sold. For the weather, I struggled a lot because moving from hot weather to a cold region made it very difficult for me. But thank God I adapted because I could not afford to go back home.

If not for football what would you have been?

I would have been a businessman.

Did your parent support your decision to play football?

Yes they did because they realised I had the talent and passion for football at an early age. They have been proud of my achievements so far.

How did you meet your wife?

I met my wife when I was still playing amateur football in Kano State. She has been an inspiration to me and has followed me to everywhere I have played. We’ve been together for as much as I’ve know her and she has been very supportive in my career, she’s one person I cannot do without.

Two justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria have reportedly declined membership on the presidential election panel, as revealed by an investigation.

Although the investigation has not disclosed the names and identities of the two affected justices, a report entitled "Two Justices of the Supreme Court Decline Membership of the Presidential Election Panel" sheds light on the matter.

According to an investigation conducted by Mr. @jacksonpbn, these two justices have declined membership in the panel established by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, tasked with determining the appeal of Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

A Dunamis Church Pastor reportedly died in a tragic building collapse on Tuesday morning in Benue State.

The Church situated in Mission Ward North Bank, Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, went down in the early hours of Tuesday.

Channels Television quoted a source as saying that four individuals, including the pastor, were engaged in prayers within the church building prior to the occurrence of the incident.

The other three individuals managed to escape the wreckage while the pastor was taken by death.

The collapse of the church building has also caused damage to nearby residential buildings and electricity infrastructure. The exact cause of the incident remains unclear at this time.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Benue State Police Command, Anene Sewuese Catherine, reportedly told journalists that she was not aware of the incident.

Reports, however, revealed that police operatives from the C Division, North Bank, have already arrived at the scene, and emergency officials are en route to the collapsed building.

The skit maker, during a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, revealed that the incident happened when she was returning from church, adding that she stopped attending church for 17 years.

Calabar Chic said comedy became a form of healing and escape away from her problems.

She said: “I had a really tough time growing up, and I have been running away from my problems my whole life.

“So comedy was just an escape. At some point, it became a form of healing. I do these things to make people laugh, but I do it for myself. When I make people laugh, it makes me happy.

“Growing up as a 14-year-old, I was sexually assaulted, brutalised, beaten, and the guy had his way with me. I was just a teenager, and I was returning from church the evening this happened.

“My relationship with God just went down, and I did not attend church for seventeen years.”

The skitmaker also revealed that she was once kidnapped and asked to pay the sum of N50 million to save her life.

She added: “I was kidnapped in 2018 by a Fulani Herdsman. I was driving with a friend, and when we got to Benin Bypass, these guys just blocked the road and started shooting in the air.

“They took us into the bush and left us till the next day. Then they told us they were kidnappers and we had to pay N50 million ransom or they would kill us. They had us for five days.

“The guy that I travelled with, they slashed him with a dagger. I prayed to God that if he got me out of there, I would go back to church, they freed us after we paid the ransom.”

Fresh insights into the arrest of the well-known show promoter, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, by the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force have surfaced. Sam Larry's apprehension is connected to an ongoing investigation concerning the events leading up to the demise of the 27-year-old singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely recognized as Mohbad.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed this development in a statement released on Thursday night but refrained from disclosing specific details regarding the arrest.

Nonetheless, a source within the police force, as reported by Punch, has shed light on the circumstances surrounding the controversial socialite's apprehension. According to the source, Sam Larry was taken into custody at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday evening upon his return from Kenya. He was promptly transported to the State Police headquarters for interrogation.

The backdrop to this incident stems from the controversial and sudden passing of Mohbad on Tuesday, September 12. In the wake of the singer's demise, there has been a clamor for the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

In response to these calls, the police have conducted an autopsy on Mohbad's remains, and the nurse who administered an injection to him prior to his demise has also been detained. The police have assured the public that further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.

Clips of his feature on the Times Square billboard displayed on Broadway Times Square, New York City, have surfaced online.

Mohbad’s postmortem appearance qualifies him to join the league of top Nigerian celebrities like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Tems and others who’ve been featured on New York Times Square’s billboard.

The Imole’s billboard message reads: “Will be remembered forever, Mohbad. Legends are never forgotten. R.I.P.”

Recall that the 27-year-old singer had his last breath on the 12 of September 2023 and was buried in Ikorodu, Lagos State, the next day.

The death of the popular had stirred reaction across the board, with Nigerians accusing his former boss, Naira Marley and music promoter, Sam Larry, of being responsible for his death.

The police in Edo State have arrested a 21-year-old youth, Salami Anedu, for allegedly killing his wife, Esther Friday, 21, following a misunderstanding over food.

The suspect was paraded by the Edo State Police Command alongside other suspects arrested for various crimes in the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said Anedu was arrested on August 30 by men from the Fugar Police Division.

He said one Aluaye Momoh reported to the police that Anedu used a stick to kill his wife during a misunderstanding at their house in Ugbekpe community.



Nwabuzor said the police stormed the scene and arrested the suspect before taking the corpse to the Fugar General Hospital mortuary.

According to him, the case was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Benin, for investigation.

In an interview with journalists, the suspect, while denying killing his wife, said he had a quarrel with her over food.


He said, “She cooked rice and said I should not eat from the food. I went to cook yam and egg on my own, but she said I could not eat the food. As I was still eating the food, she started quarreling with me and threatened to bring her brothers to my house to beat me up.

“I thought she was joking. But she came back with two of her brothers, who were armed with sticks and they started fighting me. After the fight, my wife went to my mother’s house to pass the night, but I was surprised when vigilantes came to arrest me that I killed my wife.

“I didn’t kill my wife; I didn’t hit her with wood. It was her brothers that came to my house with wood but because I dragged with them, they said I was the one that killed her. My wife was sick before.”

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a civil servant and part-time hunter met with a tragic end when he accidentally shot himself in Bayelsa State. The incident, which has plunged the deceased's family and the entire neighborhood into mourning, occurred in Oloibiri Community within the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The unfortunate victim, Claude Tonworio, lost his life on August 26 in a distressing mishap. He had been preparing to spend the weekend with his family when the incident transpired. Tonworio, a father of six, was in the process of transferring his harvested farm produce via a canoe to the upland when the tragedy unfolded.

A family source, speaking to Daily Trust, conveyed the profound pain and sorrow that had engulfed the entire family due to the loss of their beloved Claude in such a shocking manner. According to the source, the fatal accident occurred when the gun he had hanging around his neck, a Dane gun, discharged unexpectedly, shattering his head.

"The entire community is still reeling in shock from his sudden demise. He worked as a civil servant but would often visit the village on weekends to spend time with his family. This Saturday was no exception. He left his family to tend to the farm, equipped with his tools and hunting gun, in search of game. Typically, he used a canoe to transport his harvest. On that fateful Saturday, while trying to bring in his farm produce, we heard a deafening noise. Initially, we did not suspect that something had gone terribly wrong. However, as people rushed outside, they discovered him lying in the mud, bleeding and struggling for survival," the relative recounted to journalists.

Despite frantic efforts to rush Tonworio to the hospital, his life could not be saved, and he passed away during transit.

"The body was later taken to the waterside for customary rituals. It appears he may have slipped and fallen, causing the loaded gun to accidentally discharge. It's a deeply saddening incident for the family. The question now lingers, who will care for the six children he has left behind?" the relative added, underlining the profound loss felt by the bereaved family and the community.

Bandits who invaded a mosque at Saya-Saya Village in the Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Friday, killed seven worshippers.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident happened when Muslim worshippers were observing the Isha’i (sunset) prayers at a local mosque in the area.

Our correspondent gathered that five yet-to-be-identified worshippers, including a vigilante leader, were gunned down by the hoodlums during the prayers.

“Two other victims were killed by the bandits in other parts of the village,” a source told our correspondent on the telephone.

The village head of the community, Abdulrahman Yusuf, who confirmed the incident, said the head of the vigilantes in the village was among the victims killed inside the mosque.

Yusuf said the vigilante leader was trailed to the mosque where he and the other victims were shot and killed.

“We suspected they traced the vigilante leader to the mosque to attack him. We were inside the mosque praying when they arrived and started shooting. Five persons were killed in the mosque, while a driver who brought food items to the village, was also killed. The other person was killed at a nearby village,” he said.

Yusuf added that security had been beefed up in Ikara following the attack.

The acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mansir Alhassan, confirmed the attack to our correspondent on the telephone on Saturday.

He said police personnel had been mobilised to comb nearby bushes with a view to fishing out perpetrators of the dastardly act.

Nuraddeen Auwalu, a middle-aged taxi driver hailing from a Zamfara State community, defies economic hardships by doubling as a casual contract worker in a local mining company. His daily journey to the mining site, concealed beneath his taxi driver guise, is fraught with danger due to rampant bandit activity along the roads.

In Zamfara State, the pervasive banditry has instilled fear among road users, deterring many from venturing out. Neighboring Katsina State shares a similar plight, exemplified by a deadly attack on a gold mining and processing site in January 2022.

Despite these security concerns, Saturday PUNCH ventured into one of Anka, Zamfara's largest mining sites, accompanied by former Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Usman Nagoggo. Nollywood stars such as, Victoria Inyama, Georgina Onuoha have reacted to the arrest of hundred gay men by the Delta Police Command in the state.


The suspects were allegedly carrying out a gay wedding ceremony in a hotel in Delta state.

The Command in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, said it would parade the suspects shortly.
