The Rivers State Government has described as unfair the comment by the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Bola Tinubu, that the state governor, Nyesom Wike, lured Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the promise of getting him the PDP presidential ticket.

In a statement he issued in Port Harcourt on Monday and made available to PREMIUM TIMES, the State Commissioner of Information and Communications, Emma Okah, said Mr Wike has a culture of respecting elders, including Mr Tinubu but accused the leader of not reciprocating the gesture.

According to Mr Okah “Governor Wike has not discussed the political ambition of Governor Tambuwal with Senator Tinubu any day and so Senator Tinubu cannot rely on mere rumour to speak unfairly about the governor in the way he did.”

Mr Okah said Mr “Tambuwal is a matured adult who has the capacity to take critical political decisions for himself without prompting from Gov Wike...............

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU ), Calabar Zone, has described the abdication of the responsibility of funding the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho by the co-owners, Oyo and Osun States, as an introduction to the commercialization of education, which should be resisted.

Addressing reporters in Calabar, Cross River State, on Tuesday, the Zonal Coordinator, Dr Aniekan Brown, said the ramifications of commercializing education “are very negative both in the short and long terms.”

The National Assembly, which has been on recess since Tuesday, July 24, 2018 is to reconvene on Wednesday to consider some executive communications before it, including the 2018 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, containing estimates for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the 2019 general election.

According to THISDAY sources, the leadership of the National Assembly under the chairmanship of Dr. Bukola Saraki, who is also the Senate president, met at the weekend and agreed that it should be reconvened on Wednesday.

The South Korean government banned the port entry of four South Korean ships confirmed to have imported North Korean coal to the country from Saturday, the Foreign Ministry said Sunday.



“The government kept four ships — the Sky Angel, the Rich Glory, the Shining Rich and the Jin Long, which are used to transport products banned under the UN Security Council Resolution 2371 — from entering local ports starting Aug. 11,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a text message.

The resolution, which was adopted on Aug. 5, 2017 to punish North Korea for test-firing intercontinental ballistic missiles, bans the Stalinist country from exporting coal, iron ore and other minerals..............
