Hahaha. I knew of a city bus driver that was pulling close to 14k per month with overtime. Yes a bus driver. Everybody minds their business and nobody cares who you are or what you do. As long as it's nothing illegal and you don't disturb them. I don't even know any of my neighbors names, nor do I care too.

The luxurious condos that some Bus drivers live in Toronto is simply unaffordable to most people. A bus driver with a city transit is likely to gross more than many professionals can dream of. Moreso, I dare say they even get more respect than most. Aside Doctors and Nurses, I don't know of other professional that gets a warm "thank you" as often as Bus drivers. I think the problem is that people in Nigeria make the mistake of conceptualizing life in Canada with their Nigerian experience. They will be very surprised how different the value system and life here is.

I just thought of it, I actually do not know what the neigbours in the house next to mine look like lol. Sure I have seen them a couple times and know their race but their face did not stick, let alone did I care to say hi or notice what they do for a living or drive.

You should Google the governing body for lawyers in Canada. If you do need to go back to school in any way, call the school you're interested in and ask directly. Be careful of 2nd hand info on this board. Lastly, every job is clean, comfortable, and professional in Canada. Get rid of that nasty attitude if you want to come to Canada. I know bus drivers who touch money each year, a lawyer in naija can only dream of touching.

lol baba ehn. This whole thing reminds me of a convo I had with someone. The dude is a truck driver, he makes about $9k to $12k per month. When he asked me how much an entry level - intermediate level Engineer can expect to make, na stammer I take reply am lol. Last last, people wey dey naija go understand and evolve when them land here. People do professional jobs here for passion or what fits their needs, not because it fetches one more money or any respect. Nobody send you and your job for Canada. Inshort your neighbour likely no go know your name after a year of you living there, let alone care about your job.

Lived in Winnipeg for a few years now. Only 1 of my car has winter tyres. The 1 I drive is all seasons and I haven't had any issues so far.

I have driven thru crazy snowstorms even last year's Colorado low and it was ok. Even with Winter tyres you need to drive to the road condition.

I am not saying you shouldn't get it though, I am just speaking from my personal experience.

That's interesting. How slow did you have to drive on all seasons? also was it in city driving or highway?

The bolded, very very good idea. Also, start looking on indeed for jobs in your area of study. Are there technical skills employers are looking for in your field that you don't have at the moment? Is there a way you can get them before moving to or completion of your studies in Canada?

Einsteino already touched on almost everything. I will add my bit.

I have seen people get PR with 1 year PGWP and I also have friends who are in the process at the moment. I must be honest it is a bit risky but very feasible. You just need to be very strategic in your approach and pray for grace.

My default advise is and will always be, If you have the money, do 2 PGC programs and get 3 years PGWP. That is what I did and I am a Fanshawe alumni as well.

Well said! @ the bolded, nice to know you were at Fanshawe. I lived in London for a bit, a couple of my friends were at Fanshawe then. The guy that I said went back for a second diploma is also at Fanshawe.

Thank you so much... I'm thinking of writing ielts before leaving Nigeria and hopefully I pass it well so I don't need to bother about that when the time to apply for EE comes. I'll way my options whichever way. Thanks again for your timely response.

If you can do IELTS while in Nigeria, great. When you land here, you may find that CELPIP is easier(I haven't done a survey, so take it as beer parlour talk).

That's why I said "Felt". That was what u could decode from his sentence
I still can't tell till now, and I believe from the way the sentence was structured that one can only assume. If s/he had used "one" in the stead of "you", it would be crystal clear that s/he was speaking in general(esp since it was a comment in reply to mine). I don't think it was wrong of me to ask if s/he was referring to me, I made sure to not be impolite when I asked. It was an opportunity to clear my misconceptions rather than me assuming. I know that text is easily misconstrued, so maybe I sounded the opposite from what I intended.

I'm 31 years old whats my chances of getting a Visa for masters degree in canada
There is a canadian student visa thread where you would get rich information from students. I think the life in Canada thread applies specifically to questions about living in Canada that the other Canadian threads may not help with.

You would be amazed at how much info you would get from students about the visa process and outcomes. Here is the link to the thread:

Thank you so much einsteino for your response, I appreciate.
I plan on going to Fanshawe college and the program is for a one year program in Jan 2021.
Does Ontario consider students for PNP?

I am not sure that Ontario has a PNP specifically for diploma grads. What I know of is the OINP Masters graduate stream but even that only opens once in a while. A diploma wouldn't qualify you for the Master's graduate draw. There is an OINP stream for international students but you would require a job to qualify. To me that doesn't help much except your points are really low. I say this because with a Job offer and a canadian diploma, most people would have enough points for express entry(without PNP). The headache has always been getting that good job before PGWP expires.

I would suggest that you come first and worry about PR later. You may also choose to find admission in provinces like Manitoba. However, if you would need to hustle to pay fees and living expenses, then I am not sure how easy that would be in Manitoba. You may want to ask someone who schooled in Manitoba what the hustle life for students is like. Hopefully, someone here who knows better would chip in. All the best of luck bro/sis

When you find the right Nigerian woman for you, you will stop looking down on and stop sounding derogatory towards Nigerian women.
Many of them may have the wrong values but it takes patience to find the ones with the right mentality on what relationships should be about.

Similarly, when you marry a foreign woman who files for a divorce over something as flimsy as you leaving your socks on the floor(like the one I heard on Calgary radio last month), you'll appreciate the values of Nigerian marriages.

Is your use of "you" in this comment referring to me?

Mechanical Engineering. Msc. (1-3 years experience)

For Canadian experience this can be anywhere between C$55k to C$90k depending on the place and the specifics of the job & firm. For instance, the payscale for Design engineer a.k.a Designer is often different from that of Project Engineers. Also, HVAC pays much less than say O&G.

sure there are alot of interracial relationships. But i have noticed many of my friends and ex colleagues are dating or marrying Nigerians.

lol you are right, we seem to have a preference for our own. The one that gets me laughing is how Naija guys would date all the races in this world then jejely marry a Nigerian, atimes even fly back to marry someone in Naija. Of course there are exceptions, especially among non-PRs.

Okay o.

I guess it's useful to those seeking knowledge, not those seeking entertainment.

S/he has a point though, some of the questions here are better suited for other threads like the Canada study visa thread and the Canadian Express entry thread.

Hello House,
Please I want to ask if there is any student or graduate here that came into canada for an 1 year PGD program and was able to finish his/her PR process during the 1 year post study work permit. I'm just really curious and bothered.

Truth is 1 year is really short. I know of two people who did not get PR before their PGWP ran out. One has had to go back for another diploma just to hang around legitimately. If you feel it is dicey, upon graduation you may choose to immediately do a second diploma or go for a masters so that you qualify for 3years PGWP. This would give you enough time to find a good job with which you can then apply for PR.

However, depending on your CRS score, you may not even need to wait to graduate before you apply for a PR. Some people may already have the necessary points for express entry or may receive PNP from the province they are schooling in. If you are not that person, then maybe the Canadian degree may give you sufficient additional points to apply for a PR immediately after graduating. If your score is far behind, then you would need to get some Canadian work experience in the required NOC's through the PGWP.

It really does help if your school is in a province that is likely to offer PNP to students.

Wait.. Let me be sure that we are referring to the samething, :

I am talking of discounted transport ticket purchase. If this is it then I am very very sure Sheridan, Humber, Seneca, Centennial has.

If this is different from subsidized bus passed, then pls ignore my comments

I am sorry, I guess I didn't do a good job at making a distinction between the two. Discounted student passes are not the same as school bus passes. To get an "Adult" student discount, all you need is to be enrolled in a post secondary education recognized by your city's transit commission. This pass is paid for out of pocket by you to the transit commission(not covered for by Tuition). It is not issued by the school and the school is not involved in the application/administration. To get it, every year you'd have to take your school photo id to the transit commission to be registered for a discounted pass. In Toronto, after you are approved by Toronto Transit Commission(TTC), you have to top up your presto card every month with a TTC student pass. The school I currently attend in Toronto and the schools you made mention of do not issue student bus passes. So in Toronto we basically get a $30 TTC student discount that brings the cost down to $120 per month or $1440 per year.

On the other hand, schools outside the GTA traditionally offer "free" school bus pass to their students. To put things to perspective, when I was in University of Western Ontario, we got a free bus pass. The pass is issued by the University, you don't top it up. The way it worked was that the Student Council had a collective agreement with London Transit commission(LTC). All students get charged a fraction for this bus pass in their mandatory tuition fees. It didn't matter if you needed it or had a car, the charge is compulsory. Checking my previous Western tuition breakdown, the charge was about $263 per year. If Western had left students to their fate like many schools in the GTA do, Western students would have had to use the LTC adult student discount option instead. This way, Western students would have had to pay $83per month, which comes to about $989 per year.

So you see that a discounted student pass is not the same as a school bus pass.

Hi Guys, I currently reside in BC and I hope to move to Ontario by Summer or fall of next year (2021). My wife and I intend moving to Ontario to enable us afford to be able to buy a house as the cost of living in BC where we are is ridiculous and getting into the housing market might be crazy here. I am hoping I can join a group for pple who live in Ontario who are professionals for networking hopefully to get a job, discuss housing and getting a place in Ontario (Obviously outside GTA) and maybe commute to GTA or not if needed and based on where we are able to get a job and still get best value for our money. If there are groups like this with pple with goals and visions like this I hope to be added to it.

I think this would depend on where you currently live in BC. I don't think the cost of housing in Ontario would be much less compared to BC, if at all any different. Buying a house outside the GTA is only affordable when you compare it to Toronto. Anyways, who knows? maybe you would hit gold here.

My brother the difference between dating hot girls and ‘casual’ girls is as clear as night and day. Some of these casual girls are even prettier. Their looks just isn’t their priority. So they pay less attention to it.

The hot girls are only hot before you nack, once you have sex 3 times they become regular. Only guys outside who only see them with clothes on think they are special.

Only extensive experience could have revealed this to you. Lol.

Ontario Tech University has a bus pass for Durham Region.

Oh maybe I should specifically say Toronto. University of Toronto, Ryerson University and York University do not have student pass in their fees. I think Seneca college and Humber College also do not have. Sheridan college(Brampton) had one but it seems it got scrapped when student choice initiative came to be.

Nonetheless, students are able to get discounted passes using their school ids but they have to pay out of pocket for it.

Well, it is mainly schools in the GTA that dont have bus passes. Schools in london like Fanshawe and Western had.
