Roon9:This is the most reasonable explanation I have seen so far. Other people just assume they can just scan through the prints from BVN, Sim reg, NIMC etc without a primary key or a complex system like Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System(IAEFS).The data from BVN and it's likes isnt harmonized. 2 Likes |

cbngov01: I have reasons to doubt because every police clearance report I got from Police criminal registry was a charade. Also, you remember that one of the reasons the U.S banned us was over this same issue. lots of data are collected but they aren't harmonized and sometimes they are not maintained at all. It is no secret that when you apply for passport renewal, you'd find that the high commission would require you to recapture rather than just pulling up your prints. It is also worthy to note that fingerprint search is far more complex than searching a name and is nothing like what is portrayed in movies. I really do hope the police caught the culprits but considering all these and knowing Nigerian police and their antecedents, I take their claim with a pinch of salt. 2 Likes |

cerebralniggie1: I said this to someone already, we don't have harmonized data and fingerprint search isn't as straightforward as googling. I wouldn't be surprised if much of these data are lost because even for passport renewal, we are always asked to recapture. 1 Like |

moreb2cum: A database that has all Nigerian's fingerprints, biodata and address? I doubt that. Inshort I am certain it doesn't. If it does, when did they collect it, record and harmonize it? They may have a database of apprehended suspects but I don't think that it's maintained or harmonized. I have applied for police clearance reports a couple times at the Police Criminal Registry in Alagbon and the verification was a charade. Just forget Naija, we never ready. In other countries, govt has the info of folks coming into a country and leaving, where you live, what your phone number is, your bank accounts, what car you own, how many kids you have, who you are married to, who you have divorced lol... everything is tied to your identity number(SSN or SIN) and all these are harmonized and could be accessed(when authorized). They dont waste resources on population census because with such data know how many people are in their country, and resident in a city, and died at any given day. 1 Like |

Richdee1: Most Canadian public universities offer funding for their research masters. However, this is offered through your supervisor. So, you have to scout and contact professors that are in the research areas that interest you. If they accept you and have funding for that research area, they would offer you funding(pays you salary and pays your tuition). You can still go on to apply for other scholarships and grants when you get the admission. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

yusman14: If this is Africa's most beautiful campus, then Africa is not doing so well. I think it might be the prettiest Nigerian campus(of the ones I have seen, it is). North Africans are better organized and more advanced than we are. So, I hope they have not merely a prettier campus but universities that can compete with the west(to save Africa's face). |

Barbilius: Universities are mainly ranked by research output, facilities, teaching, employ-ability of graduates and reach of Alumni. University of Toronto's Main campus is much smaller than UNN but UNN is more than a 1000 spot below it on ranking. Anyways, let our youths keep taking solace in drone shots of our dilapidated campuses. Someday, I hope they leave Nigeria and see for themselves how much they have been shortchanged. And how humbling the question "what school did you graduate from?" could be lol. |

Deltayankeeboi: I understand how you feel. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the prospects of Zoology here. It is likely much better than Nigeria's as animals are loved here, though the market maybe saturated. As for the Masters, I know you can get admitted to a Masters in another course but I think it has to be related a bit. I have a couple faculty mates here who don't hold an engineering bachelors degree but were admitted to a M.ASc in engineering program. So, if you prove to be an exceptional and passionate candidate with the prerequisites, it is doable. Whichever way, the main thing is to find a way to legally get here first. Once you get here, you can figure out what career you could do. The good thing about Canada is that you'd be able to find something legal to at least pay your bills while you think things through. Since you graduated with a first class, you might be able to gain admission to a research masters, they are usually fully funded(paid for by the school). If you get that, then it shouldn't matter to you what course it's in, just take it! The school would pay your tuition and also pay you $15k to $20k per annum as TA/RA. I advise that you start working on contacting professors right away because applications usually close 8months to 12months before the session start date. It is no easy task but I know a couple people who managed to land an offer to a fully funded research masters here. 9 Likes |

carissaa: Montreal and London(Ontario) had just as much greens when I was there. So, it might just be that the whole Canada is this way(of course with the exception of downtown areas). The scene is prettiest in Fall when the leaves start to change into some of the most charming colours. However, it all withers away in the winter. To me, Canada looks ugly and depressing in the winter. 4 Likes 1 Share |

traihit: I am not hating but I am not sure you know what international universities look like. In Nigeria, I have been to UI, UNN, FUTO, Delsu and Uniben. In Canada I have been to Concordia University, University of Western Ontario, York University and University of Toronto. The truth is that the only thing Nigerian Universities may be able to mouth about is landmass. If it's beauty or how they are set up, I am sorry to say that we are not even remotely close to some international colleges let alone international universities. Some universities have classes and auditoriums that are much more luxurious than some Nigerian four/five star hotel's Auditoriums. See, leave matters. Nigerian leaders need to wake up. We are soo soooo far behind. The first thing you notice when you leave Naija is that most things wey we take dey big up, na just normal life to other countries. The good thing is that after coming out of our bastardized Nigerian Universities, we some how manage to do well in these international universities(though it sets us back a bit, so we have to work harder than our colleagues). 5 Likes |

Not many people are adhering to the sit at home order anymore.Hopefully, after the lockdown I would retake the pic so we could compare. In any case, one can see from the picture that some effort was dedicated to urban planning, unlike Lagos. 1 Like |

Boss I agree with most of what you said but I think it is not always about attitude. Personally, I think it is okay for people to complain, I only make sure to clarify their fears and ensure they aren't just working based on hear-say or nostalgia. If after everything, they feel Toronto is crowded, I would think that is fine regardless of where they lived before Canada. My earliest days on this planet were a sharp contrast to the aspirations I nursed and what it took to satisfy me. I have always wanted what I want regardless of how it compared to what I may have had or experienced. To be satisfied with the status quo simply based on how it compares to what I had, rather than the not too far off possibilities, would be complacency. As such, I wouldn't think anyone is an ingrate for finding they are not okay with Canada even if they had lived in a slum hitherto. In the end, the final verdict of what we think of Canada is how we vote with our feet. Those who think they had it much better elsewhere are free to leave and would. Those who prefer to stay but go on talking about the areas they feel it sucks in, are free to because that's how a society builds the social consciousness to do better. It is the very low standards of what it takes to satisfy the Nigerian masses, that plunged Nigeria into where it is now, and ultimately made us "socio-economic refugees". No doubt, Canada is progress for many of us(depending on how our stars were previously lined and our priorities) but it is not in our place to say what another should want or be contented with. I believe in self exploration and finding what resonates with one self. Hence why I think we should only ask why someone wants what they want, to help them see if it is based on misconceptions. However, at the end of the day, finding oneself is the ultimate and on stuff like this, only they can be the judge of what is best for them. last last na to hope say we all go dey alright but with the mind say if we no dey alright, that one follow too. By the way, thanks for the expose on the tax ish. Many people are told by others that this is the way to go. It is nice to see someone who thinks differently and is not afraid to say. mbhs139: 18 Likes 1 Share |

Ope27: I haven't been there. The one time I was to pick up stuff from there, I botched the trip because I realised it is about an hour (highway) drive away. I am careful not to give advice on things/places I haven't experienced/been to, as major life decisions with far reaching implications are made based on comments on this thread. So, let's wait for someone who know's St Catherines to chip in. That brings me to something I have to correct, my friend just told me that his commute from Barrie is much longer than I thought. He said it takes him roughly an hour to get to work from Barrie. it is the highway drive to point of entering Toronto that is about 30 minutes. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

If the reason for their strike is lack of PPE or inadequate facilities that creates a situation that endangers them much more than should be the case, then I am in full support. Nigerians would castigate health professionals for not being willing Matryrs, yet would go on to make illogical arguments in the defense of the leaders whose actions and inactions is the cause. If you must charge doctors to court for contempt, then charge all the politicians to court too. Whenever it involves the common man idiots remember the law but once it involves the fools in govt, everyone turns a blind eye. 2 Likes |

godG: lol all this Ogas and Madams wey dey go about sir sir for Nairaland, abeg put person for ground. If you own a car, you can check out Bolton(no public transit there except Go-transit a few times a day). I love it in Bolton(I spend weekends there on occasion). It is a quiet town, and just on the highway 50, so that gives you speedy access to other parts of the GTA. It is about 50 minutes drive from downtown Toronto(includes time driving inside toronto) and I think about 30minutes from Mississauga, of course depending on the time of the day. The houses are much cheaper than places like Brampton, especially if you hate living in Apartment buildings. The only issue I see is if you decide to buy a house there in the hopes that it would be a small town permanently. I say this because Bolton is very likely to become suburban in about 5 - 10years due to the industrial development that has started encroaching on it. Already, Amazon is setting up a Warehouse there and lots of other companies are beginning to set up there as well. The good side is, in the meantime you would get the quiet small-town neigbourhood you seek and would not need to commute to Toronto except for a good job. Besides, it is a good idea to buy a house there now and resell when Toronto money comes shopping lol. Another place is Barrie, it is about 1hour from Downtown Toronto. Someone I know lives in Barrie and commutes to Toronto for work. 14 Likes 8 Shares |

godG: Huh! away from the GTA? Are you sure you want that? The GTA has double the land mass of Lagos state! The GTA is a cosmopolitan area, there are multiple regions in it, each region is constituted of multiple cities. Toronto, Brampton, Burlington, Aurora are some of the several places that fall under the GTA . So it must and does mean that the characteristics of cities in the GTA is very different from one another. Even within the city of Toronto, different places have very different characteristics. For instance, Scarborough is almost only a quiet residential area, while Missisauga is a commercial hub, residential and industrial area all rolled into one. Hamilton is about 50mins by car from Toronto but that doesnt mean your commute from Hamilton to your workplace in Toronto would be 50minutes. It may take you another 30minutes to move from the point you enter Toronto to your workplace. If you hope to work in the GTA but don't plan on owning a car, it might be challenging living 50minutes away from the GTA. I say this because Go Transit fare can be quite expensive, and you'd still have to commute from their station to your home. Go transist schedule outside peak period could be another fustration. So, to me, the outside the GTA plan should be a last resort. If you live outside the GTA, you might as well just work outside the GTA to save yourself the hassles. I think you need to be clear on what crowded means to you. Perhaps you could contrast with a Nigerian city. Over here the city centre is called downtown, this would be the most crowded area. St George Street in Downtown Toronto is considered crowded but it can't compare to Ojota, Lagos... at worst it is almost as crowded as Admiralty way Lekki. Downtown London(Ontario) is like Airport Road, Warri with narrower roads. Montreal's Rue Sainte-Catherine is considered very busy but if I remember what Ring-road Benin city or Upper Iweaka of Onitsha looks like I would just chuckle. My point is, crowded in a country that has one-fifth of Nigeria's population but ten times it's land mass may not have the same meaning. Straight out of mainland lagos, some parts of the GTA may have you feeling like you are living in a Ghost town. Where I currently live in Toronto is not only quiet but lonely for a city! I mean if you ignore the amenities of a developed world, my area is just as dry and sparsely populated as the remote parts of Apete-Ayegun in Ibadan. You don't need to live away from the GTA to have some sanity, there are lots of quiet cities in the GTA. 47 Likes 9 Shares |

safarigirl: In the diaspora, one can hardly afford any sort of help. So unless you plan on living in Nigeria, or would be a multi millionaire in dollars, it would be unlikely that anyone but you and your spouse would do the chores. The reason why having domestic help is a thing in Nigeria is because they are paid poorly. In the diaspora an on call maid or driver would very easily earn $2k to $4k a month. Live in maids cost so much more that only the real rich can even consider having one. The good thing is that tech has eased house chores. So much of the chores we spend time on in Naija, are automated in the diaspora. 4 Likes |
