poshdiva: I am single although I don't know if nairaland has my kind of person smiley

I need someone around 27 years. I don't date people younger than that because of immaturity. I noticed that this present generation of 27 year olds and above are very focused unlike the younger ones.

I need someone around that age, someone with a career, focused, who has no time for trivialities, funny, mature, firm (I don't need a baby). Other requirements would come later.

If you meet the above criteria. We can meet.
your hypothesis is wrong. If you feel or think those above 27 are most mature then you have been meeting the wrong people below that age bracket. People are designed by exposure, upbringing, education etc so maturity is an upshoot of this whether above 27 or below it.

Art, Graphics & Video / 5 Guys Take Same Picture For 30years. by Eisenhower(m): 2:31am On Jan 16, 2013
(CNN) -- When five teenagers sat down and posed for a picture at Copco Lake in 1982, they didn't plan on making it a tradition. But that's what it became.

Every five years for the past three decades, John Wardlaw, John Dickson, Mark Rumer, Dallas Burney and John Molony have been meeting at the California lake and taking the same photo.

The first photograph of the high school friends was just happenstance. Wardlaw, known as Wedge in the group, had a family cabin at the lake where the friends gathered in July 1982.

While hanging out on the deck of the cabin, Dickson, or J.D., set his 35-millimeter camera on self-timer to take a group photo.
5 guys vacation pic a huge hit online

"For some reason, we all chose to have dark and mysterious expressions on our faces," said Wardlaw. "I'm sure we all thought we were being really cool."

Is the photo better than the vacation?

Though they tried a couple of poses, the one that would eventually win as the official vacation photo depicts the five teens, three of them shirtless, with shaggy hair typical of the time. They were about 19 years old.

Molony, known in the group as Belves, is pictured holding a Folgers Instant Coffee jar, which contained a cockroach the guys had decided to keep as a pet. They fed their new friend with a piece of butterscotch candy and kept it company with a photograph of Robert Young.

"Priorities were so different back then. All I was really thinking about was summer and girls," said Wardlaw.

As the men went into their college years, they continued to return to the lake every summer. They spent their time fishing and reading and playing roles in homemade movies shot by Wardlaw, who is now a filmmaker.

"We're all very creative people, so we would take all of our creative energy and focus it into a certain direction," said Molony. "It wasn't, 'Let's all get together and get drunk.' It was, 'Let's get together and see who can make the funniest joke or pull off the sneakiest prank.'"

10 budget all-inclusive resorts

The men never drank on the trip. It has always been good, clean fun.

At least fairly clean: One year Wardlaw turned on the water to take a shower, and it was running brown. He removed the shower head to find a beef bullion cube.

"When I went back to the living room, the guys were all chuckling and I said something like 'beefy goodness' and they all exploded with laughter," he said.

But it wasn't until five summers later when Wardlaw, a photography enthusiast, decided it would be fun to recreate the photograph they'd taken in '82.

In 1987, the now college-educated men sat in the same position on the same bench, again with a self-timed camera. The jar, a different one this time, contained no cockroach, and the hat held by Wardlaw was different as well. The expressions however, were unchanged.

"I think I had a feeling this might become some cool tradition, but I had no idea we would still be doing it for 30 years," said Wardlaw.

In 1997, 15 years after the original photo, the men, then in their mid-30s, decided to solidify the photo as a tradition they would continue every five years for the rest of their lives.

Five guys, fun facts, through the decades

As the ritual became more concrete and when digital cameras were introduced, the group became more picky over the details of the photo, going as far as to wear the same clothes, and designate an official jar and hat as props. Hairstyles have changed over the years and with the march of time they abandoned the bare-chested motif.

"Watch us lose hair and gain forehead, gain and lose and gain and lose weight," Dickson posted on a website he maintains devoted to the tradition. "There are reasons we all decided it was better to take the photo with our shirts on."

Now, the friends also take the time to film the ordeal, and interview each other concerning the last five years' events.

The guys all agree that this trip has been the glue that has allowed them to maintain their friendships.

"It's kind of an organic relationship that's evolved not just from being high school buddies but from having common passions for life," Molony said.

Over the years, the friends have played parts in the milestones of each others' lives, including being in each others' weddings.

"I look at the photos and think of the relationships I went through," said Dickson. "Wedding rings come and go, if you look closely."

Dickson, who now works as a restaurant columnist, got married in mid-July and had some of the guys in his wedding. In June, all five friends celebrated Dickson's bachelor party at the 30-year anniversary of their Copco Lake tradition.

Molony, who has since relocated to New Orleans and works for UPS, is married, as is Wardlaw, who made a career of his love for photography and film. Burney is a fourth-grade teacher. Rumer, known as "Kram," now resides in Oregon and has retired after owning his own electronics company. None of the men have children yet.

"We plan on doing this for the rest of our lives, no matter what," said Dickson. "Up until there's one guy just sitting in the same pose! Even then, maybe someone will take a picture of an empty bench for us."

The seven pictures to date are framed and hang on the wall of the cabin. The men still listen to the same '80s music they were listening to when they were 19 years old.

"I'm not in the same place I thought I'd be, but I'm in the right place," said Dickson. "Without this photo, there's no way we'd be together."

Celebrities / Top Chinese Movie Star Charging $1 Million A Night As A Hooker by Eisenhower(m): 1:24am On Jan 11, 2013
Chinese actress that starred in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Rush Hour 2" angrily denied selling herself for sexual favors to a disgraced official of the ruling Chinese Communist Party for $1 million per night.

A story in the tabloids in Hong Kong newspaper Apple Daily said Zhang Ziyi provided sexual services in exchange for about $1 million U.S. dollars a night with former Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai and other customers.

The Apple Daily, the second most sold paper in Hong Kong and a frequent critic of the Chinese regime also claimed that Ziyi had earned $110 million over four years through prostitution.

Ziyi, whose absence from last week's premiere in Cannes for her latest film, "Dangerous Liaisons" was reported by the news media, has issued a heated denial of the charges.

According to Apple Daily, the main client was Zhang Ziyi, Bo Xilai, who allegedly had sex with her 11 times between 2007 and 2011. The report alleges Ziyi accumulated $110 million from these customers and more appointments arranged by a prominent billionaire businessman, Xu Ming.
On Tuesday, a law firm representing Hong Kong, Zhang Ziyi, dismissed the report.

Culture / Archeologists Unearth Alien-like Skulls In A Mexico Cemetery by Eisenhower(m): 5:25pm On Jan 09, 2013
Archeologists have unearthed what looks like a cone-shaped alien skull from 1,000 years ago in Mexico.

The skull, which dates from 945 A.D. to 1308 A.D., was discovered accidentally while digging an irrigation system in the northwest state of Sonora in Mexico.

Cristina Garcia Moreno, who worked on the project with Arizona State University, explained that 13 of the 25 skulls found in the Hispanic cemetery had these deformed heads.

“We don’t know why this population specifically deformed their heads,” Moreno told ABC News.

The site, known as El Cementerio, was discovered in 1999, but the team just completed their analysis of the skeletal remains last month. They plan to continue their research during the next field season. Archaeologists also discovered artifacts on the site, like pendants, nose rings and jewelry.

They said the deformation of human skulls was part of an ancient ritual that took place 1,000 years ago. The deformation was achieved by binding a person’s head between two blocks of wood to apply pressure on the skull by wrapping the wood with bands.

“Cranial deformation has been used by different societies in the world as a ritual practice, or for distinction of status within a group or to distinguish between social groups,” Moreno told ABC News. “The reason why these individuals at El Cementerio deformed their skulls is still unknown.”

The team said that many of the bones unearthed were the remains of children, leading them to believe the practice of deforming skulls “may have been inlet and dangerous.”

The Chinook of the U.S. Northwest and the Choctaw of the U.S. Southeast both were known for practicing skull deformation as well.

Moreno told ABC that people deformed their heads in Mexico because they wanted to distinguish important people, or they wanted to distinguish people from one group from another.

Travel / Grief As Container-laden Truck Crushes Driver’s Mate ’ by Eisenhower(m): 2:37am On Jan 08, 2013
ONLY the strong-willed could on Monday resist shedding tears or even take a second look at the body of a man who died when the rear tyres of a truck rolled backwards and crushed his head to a pulp, killing him instantly.

An eyewitness told The Guardian he would never forget “how the body was twitching as blood was gushing out of where his head was and which was now a mess of brain and bones.”

The unidentified man, a mate to the driver of the haulage truck with Registration Number XT 727 LSR was said to have been trying to place a wedge behind the tyres when they rolled over him.

The victim, according to eyewitnesses, was about 35 years old, and hailed from one of the northern states.

“The driver must have indicated that the brakes had failed and his mate jumped down from the truck in order to place a restraining wedge to slow down or stop the vehicle, which was on the NAHCO side of the International Airport Road,” the witness added.

The accident happened around 1.00p.m. and the body lay beneath the truck, the head crushed and trapped under the tyres till about 2.10p.m. when it was finally moved in a commercial vehicle with Registration Number XU 840 EKY to Ikeja General Hospital mortuary

Efforts by The Guardian to speak with the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Hajj Camp Police Station failed as he declined comments and ordered his men not to allow journalists access to the station, as the driver of the truck was by then in custody of the police.

An official with ADLAS Export, a haulage company and owners of the truck, who refused to reveal his identity, said he was short of words and would not comment on the accident.

The truck has since been towed off the road to avert a traffic jam.

The accident has further brought to the fore, the issue of roadworthiness of haulage vehicles, as lives are endangered as a result of inability or unwillingness of their owners to maintain them.

Education / Ripples Over Pimps On Campuses by Eisenhower(m): 1:56am On Jan 08, 2013

Ripples over pimps on campuses Campus aristos negotiating with some pimps - their middlemen

When I wrote my piece on pimps last week I never anticipated the responses that followed, it came in torrents through SMS, emails and personal calls even though the instruction was for readers to send in SMS. Those that called apologized and said they will express themselves better through personal calls than other means; and in some of the instances, I had to put my phone on speaker so that I can take down notes from their reactions. While it will be difficult to accommodate all the responses in one write up, we’ll be having an open house today so that readers can have their say on this very thorny issue.

Wait for this: have you heard of sale of kidneys racketeering by students of Nigerian Universities? They recruit their clients to foreign hospitals to ‘donate’ their kidney for a fee. They engage in rituals using their girlfriends on whom they lavish expensive gifts and money. One was competing with the Vice Chancellor of his University in the type of cars he rode as a student now he is a school proprietor in Southwest. Our value system has collapsed.

Sola Akinwande

Thanks for the enlightenment. “I don’t know” as an answer to a crucial question is always a safer way to dodge the obvious. Education is crucial in the lives of the citizenry and the economic development of a society. The government has continuously shied away from this fact and fails to establish the enabling system mechanism to ensure that things work out commensurate to the developed world. What do you expect of a student from a society with income per capital of less than $2.00 a day?

When I attended tertiary institution in Nigeria in the 80′s, things had started falling apart and they were never checked. I have been one of the “Andrews” and things are totally different for me at present. Now the government is toying with educational deregulation! According to President Obama, things will get worse before they get better. For Nigeria, they will always be worse except the government wake up from its slumber and conduct the country’s business according to the dictates of a good constitution.

In all the rambling and happenings, the government is to be blamed because as students and human being, survival is at the apex of their life matrix. According to Peter Drucker, the economist (1909-2005), carrot and stick management method is where the Nigerian government is missing the point. The business of government should be to create and enforce the laws. The laws should always be changed and revised to meet the challenges of the time. If there were student loans for tuition and living, strong laws to punish offenders, things will be better on our campuses.

Prostitution has not been adequately categorized as an illegal activity in our society; though it is in the code, people who have been found to contravene it are treated with kid gloves. Professors, lectures and law makers are guilty of this. A product supply that has no demand will die naturally within the economics of demand and supply chain. Everybody should be accountable to the system!

Parafima

The problem of pimping in our tertiary institutions has come to stay. I am a staff of Ebonyi State University and I know there is nothing anybody can do to reverse the situation, at least in the next ten years as long as the forces that compel our youths to play the game are very much around us. Pimping as well as other social vices like kidnapping, armed robbery and terrorism is the unfortunate product of education without a basic foundation in simple morality. No wonder then that your anonymous caller saw nothing wrong in making millions out of pimping. Your column is an interesting one.

S.O

Mr. Agbo, I just read your column and I must say that even though pimping is not a business or profession anyone can be proud of, I do know that the majority of Nigerians have no moral high ground to criticize what these pimps do. Their clients are the so-called “role models” of society, Governors, senators, bankers etc. Are any of these corrupt people in private and public sector proud of the funds they steal? Would any of them be proud if their daughters are unknowingly brought in as one of these high class prostitutes?

I think Nigerians should worry more about a society that would gather round an ex-convict to celebrate his release from prison for stealing public funds. These are the role models of these youth today or in the future when they enter the real world and realize their country has no jobs for them. How many people are proud of the jobs they do? I have a friend that has “pimped” his sister; I have another who said the last profession he would join is the Police. Not only is he in the Police as a recruit, he hates every minute of it.

07042325266

Our leaders (both past present) are to be blamed for the moral decadence in our society. Why do they increase school fees arbitrarily, often without considering the poor in the society? Most of these people had free education during their time. How do our graduates survive the unemployment that has become the order of the day? God save us.

Ojomo Vincent

Parents are part of the problem. They just dump their children in school, not caring how they live. Some don’t even give enough money to their daughters. But it’s interesting to note that a lot of students still engage in legitimate business around the campuses.

Jetro

Sir, I just stumbled on Campus Life and encountered the painful development of aunty Ngozi’s exit. Accept my sympathy and may the good Lord uphold, strengthen and shelter you and the child she left behind. Amen.

Be that as it may, the issue raised in your article on “pimps” is not only a terrible dimension of decadence in tertiary institution but a monster that is worse than HIV/AIDS. I’m pursuing my second degree in Law in UNILAG and I can sadly confirm and affirm to you that all hope seems largely lost on the issue at stake. I’m not a prophet of doom but as long as materialism and acquisitive disposition continues, pimping or whatever it is called would continue unabated. May the Lord be with you.

Awopeju Idowu

Why blame past leaders alone in this national malaise and disgrace. People given to blaming others for their situation are lost. It is a purposeless exercise to blame others for your predicament. Where were the people when these leaders were bastardising the system? They fold their arms and looked unconcerned.

Have the leaders changed their ways of running every institution aground? No. So what have we done in spite of this? Nothing. Will things change on their own? Of course not. Will wailing and complaining change anything? No of course. This sort of situation can only take place in a film or in an animal kingdom.

Let the blame game and complaining continue. To image what the future will hold for everyone is like a jackboot stamping on a face forever.

Olawale Yinusa

It’s nice and refreshing reading your article on university students and pimping. I am confident most Nigerians are not shocked or surprised about it. This is a practice that has been going on for years in this sector. I have used and have been invited to participate in the services and I can confirm that I am a happy customer. Moreover the students in question are” adults”. I am not sure what the fuss is all about.

George Mbanefo

I can say categorically that this doesn’t happen in the best university in The South west! Girls may prostitute but they don’t have pimps! Guys do runs but they don’t love-vendor.

Sir K

The fact remains that our rulers and some of our parents are to blame for the moral decadence in our society, but that does not mean that we don’t have self-discipline students. May God help us.
