Nairaland / General / Check Out The Famous Letter Chief Obafemi Awolowo Wrote For A Loan by Ejem84: 3:33am On Aug 18, 2019
Dear Mr Odutola,
I think it will be an exceeding saving of time and more business-like if I avoid all sweet preliminaries and go straight into the object of this letter and say that I am writing to ask you to be good enough to lend me a sum of £1,400 (One thousand and four hundred pounds) free of interest for twelve years.
It is a staggering figure! More staggering indeed does it become, when it is realized that I, who am asking for this loan, have nothing in all the world to give as a security for this money, excepting my good faith and my brains which again are of value only so long as I continue to breathe the breath of life!
Nevertheless, I here proceed to outline in brief why I want this big loan from you. And I hope you will be kind enough to sacrifice some time to go through what I have to say, even though, in the end, you might find yourself unable to do me this grand favour.
One great ambition of mine since my boyhood days is to be a lawyer, a politician and a journalist rolled into one. I cherish politics and journalism as a career, and I desire advocacy as a means of livelihood.

This is a bigoted assertion. The people you claim to get this from still enquire of themselves, 'How was your night?'.

Don't just accept anything you see on the internet blindly. It was a person (probably more flawed than you are) that put it there.

Most Nigerians don't know the meaning of 'context'.... See response below by a British on quora who is a native speaker before you guys kill me with mentions.
The fact he is British does not mean he is an authority. What did you call him?
An information security specialist.
Google employs language professional s to work for them so google is an authority.
The guy in question mentioned some thing like a language seminar
One should know white folks who own the language still make mistake it all boils down to the fact if they are an authority in English language.heard some years ago prof. Wole Soyinka corrected a white folk.

Nairaland / General / 2 Countries In The World Where Cows Are More Valuable Than Human Lives by Ejem84: 5:02pm On Aug 12, 2019
There are two places in the world where cows are more valuable than human lives. The general belief that human life is sacred does not hold in these 2 countries but what is seen and upheld is that the lives of cows are sacred than human lives. India and Nigeria are the two countries known to take that stance.

India: The main religion in India is Hindu where cows are well respected, honoured and adored and given special feedings at festivals all over India, most importantly the annual Gopashtama festival. The cow exemplifies the cardinal virtue of Hinduism, no injury, known as ahimsa.

Nairaland / General / A Baptism Of Fire Too Strong For Frank Lampard by Ejem84: 10:59am On Aug 12, 2019
The Chelsea 4-0 batching by Man U t took a critical analysis by no other one apart from the special one who has coached both sides. Mourinho who returned to Old Trafford as a Sky Sports pundit had this to say: “Chelsea were too soft, not compact defensively, not aggressive enough, there was too much space between the lines. They did not press in blocks. a little bit of experience would fit well with the team. You look to the performance of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and for matches of this dimension you need a little bit more.’

Yet Obaseki will say he is wake and see? Make Ogun from Oshogbo kill am.
Is it only in Edo state you have flood.I was listening to tvc news even Abuja was flooded.
Apart from blaming government we citizens have a role to play by not dumping refuse into the drainage.is it governor Obaseki that will come and tell you to stop blocking the drainage with refuse.
Another angle is global warming even in the western world you still experience flood killing people.
I think you can be civil with out cursing the governor
My sympathy goes to the family of the deceased may God give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Health / Re: Journalist Slumps And Dies While Dancing At School Reunion In Edo by Ejem84: 5:45pm On Jul 14, 2019
Nigeria health system is thrash
because of the expensive nature of check up in the country people don't go for check up.
a comprehensive check up cost 150k or more.
How many Nigerians when e never see food chop well can afford dat amount?
Government must as a matter of urgency synchronize the local health practice with orthodox medicine to bring the cost down.
Note local health practise has to be brought to standard.
Let's ask how China was able to do it with acupuncture that has boosted the medical tourism.I believe if healthcare is cheap in Nigeria and a policy is put in place civil servants must go for check up as one criteria for promotion then we would have reduce incidence of cardiac arrest.

Give governor Obaseki a chance.
He means well for Edo state.
We have never had it so good except Ogbemudia's time.
Oshiomhole is a tricky fraudster who under deception massively looted Edo state.
However, he is better than lucky Igbinedion who foolishly looted Edo state.
how come Central hospital built in less than four years have a structural defect?
Baba Oshio has a case to answer.
What is playing out in Edo state is that they are fighting the governor because of greed.
I expect a better and reasonable argument like what of Gelegele project, Edo refinery and other capital projects proposed by Obaseki.
I just hope they will not be constitutional crises because if reps choose to take over Edo state house of assembly Edo state government will take the national assembly to court because there is a high court order which says all parties involved must not interfere with the house until October 9th.
Nairaland / General / Do Africans Have Corruption In Their DNA? by Ejem84: 2:35pm On Jul 07, 2019
If there is anything African countries have in common it is corruption rather than growth and development. Corruption is robbing African countries of growth and development.

Corruption from the upper class supported and championed by the middle class has a multiplier effect on other problems affecting the continent like poverty, bad roads, epileptic power supply, high level of crime, diseases and conflict. The lower class who are now on the receiving end from the multiplier effect of corruption now result in corruption. This is a generation and regeneration of corruption in Africa and the root source of corruption is greed and selfishness.
It is not usual to hear that billions of dollars appropriated for white elephant projects have been misappropriated by high-level powerful politicians (Ogas on the top)

Education / How To Acquaire Doctorate Degree Against All Odds? by Ejem84: 6:47am On Jul 07, 2019
This is the story of a Nigerian Emmanuel Ilori who arrived in cape town, South Africa from Nigeria in 2012. The usual hustling of Nigerians for greener pastures abroad made Emmanuel take the trip to South Africa. He was linked with an agent in South Africa who would sort out his accommodation problem but the agent was nowhere to be found when he arrived in South Africa.
He felt downcast considering he has been fooled and dwindled. This is one of the many stories Nigerians tell on their search for greener pastures abroad.
The reality dawned on him that he was homeless with no money in a strange land with nobody to assist him. He had to seek refuge in a church who gave him shelter in a Sunday school room where he was employed as a security guard.
This man rose from an unpleasant situation he found himself and went to improve himself academically. six years later he was conferred with a doctorate in public administration at UWC‚ where he is an associate lecturer in the school of government‚ economics and management sciences. He was able to achieve the height he attained today from the strong determination and commitment to make it in life irrespective of the circumstances he found in himself.

Politics / Why Nigerians Must Know The Laws Against Assault And Violence? by Ejem84: 7:42am On Jul 05, 2019
The ugly incidence between the purported distinguished senator Elisha Abbo and Bibra this week raises the question Why Nigerians must know the laws against assault and violence as enshrined.
It is necessary for Nigerians to know these laws especially when people who are supposed to be the ones making the laws are the ones breaking it.

Senator Elisha Abbo’s saga is just one among many that take place on a daily basis in Nigeria. There are many cases of violence and assault especially at homes and workplace that are not reported. Thanks to the CCTV footage that showed the world what happened. Imagine there was no CCTV recording, that matter if raised at all would have been denied.

The Criminal Code Act-PartV - Nigeria Law Chapter 25 reads:
Assaults and Violence to the Person generally: Justification and Excuse
A person who strikes, touches, or moves, or otherwise applies force of any kind to, the person of another, either directly or indirectly, without his consent, or with his consent, if the consent is obtained by fraud, or who by any bodily act or gesture attempts or threatens to apply force of any kind to the person of another without his consent, in such circumstances that the person making the attempt or threat has actually or apparently a present ability to effect his purpose is said to assault that other person, and the act is called an assault.

The term "applies force" includes the case of applying heat, light, electrical force, gas, odour, or any other substance of thing whatever, if applied in such a degree as to cause injury or personal discomfort.

253. An assault is unlawful and constitutes an offence unless it is authorised or justified or excused by law.
The application of force by one person to the person of another may be unlawful, although it is done with the consent of that other person.

254. It is lawful for a person who is charged by law with the duty of executing or giving effect to the lawful sentence of a court (including a Customary and an Area Court) to execute or give effect to that sentence.

255. It is lawful for a person who is charged by law with the duty of executing the lawful Process of a court (including a Customary and Area Court) and who is required to arrest or detail another person under such process, and for every person lawfully assisting a person so charged, to arrest or detain that other person according to the term of the process.

256. It is lawful for a person who is charged by law with the duty d by any court executing a lawful warrant issued by any court(including a Customary and an Area Court) or judicial officer, or other person having jurisdiction to issue it, and who is required to arrest or detain another person under such warrant, and for every person lawfully assisting a person so charged, to arrest or detain that other person according to the directions of the warrant.

257 If the sentence was passed, or the process was issued by a court (including a native tribunal) having jurisdiction under any circumstances to pass such a sentence or to issue such process, or if the warrant was issued by a court (including a Customary and an Area Court) or judicial officer or other person having authority in any circumstances to issue such a warrant, it is immaterial whether the court or judicial officer or person had or had not authority to pass the sentence or issue the process or …

Why Should Nigerians Accept Senator Abbo’s Apology?: Expectations vs. Reality
July 04, 2019 0 Comments article, news

Apology comes with being remorseful for wrongdoing. The apology tendered by Senator Abbo is far from being remorseful. The senator first defended his actions until he was prevailed upon to tender an apology.

The assault of Bibra by the senator was reported by the media on Tuesday but the senator had to wait two days after to tender an apology. The public outburst against his actions forced the senator to tender an apology.

The senator in his interview with BBC Hausa service had said his sister was the victim being assaulted in the shop he came to rescue. Does the CCTV footage justify his actions for the assault?

Jokes Etc / A Remix Of Patience Jonathan's Vibes by Ejem84: 5:35am On Jul 04, 2019
Dame Patience Faka Jonathan aka mama peace is always a delight to her readers because of her penchant for pidgin English(vernacular). She is known to be very vocal with her sense of humour on national issues bothering the nation especially when her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan was in office. The famous chai statement about the chibok missing girls which generated reactions from the public readily comes to mind in which she is reported to have said “Diaris God….Diaris God in everything we are doing…Those bloods that are shiaring in Borno will answer…What of two teachers that can tell us that they conducted that exam? Do you come with any? Prinspa…No too?“Na only you waka come? Okay. Now the First Lady is calling you, come I want to help you…find ya missing child…will you keep kwayet? Chai!!! Chai!!!“Diaris God o!” She has been quiet since her departure from the office of the first lady and Nigerians have missed her sense of humour.

The latest news concerning her is Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, which has ordered the final forfeiture of $8,435,788.84 and N9.1 billion belonging to her to the Nigerian government. In Nigeria, it is normal that when one is been accused of wrongful doing he or she also point fingers to others like the proverb that says those who live in glass houses do not throw stones. As I looked into her many funny quotes I began to guess what her response to the court judgement would have been. She probably would have said “nor be only me waka come here with money ooo, ask other people too when dey waka with money too”

Politics / Nigeria Ranked Low In Global Peace Index by Ejem84: 8:17pm On Jul 03, 2019
The global peace index has ranked Nigeria among peaceful nations in the world. Nigeria is ranked 144 nation among 163 nations. Nigeria is only 19 places higher above Afghanistan which stood at 163 which is considered the lowest rank. The African nations which came top four in Africa are: Mauritius ranked 24, Botswana ranked 30 Malawi ranked 40 and Ghana ranked 44.
The report released measures the ‘peacefulness’ of 163 countries with a range of measures including military spending and deaths from conflict and terrorism, as well as an estimated economic cost of violence. Iceland often portrayed as an idyllic Nordic paradise came first in the rankings for the 12th year in a row as researchers praised the country’s falling murder rate and increase in funding to UN peacekeeping.
Nigeria’s position in the global peace index could be attributed to the high rate of armed robbery, kidnapping, book haram incidence, Fulani herdsmen attack and communal crises. The United Kingdom just recently warned its citizens from travelling to 21 states in Nigeria due to the high level of insecurity
Ghana finished fourth in the recent Global Peace Index after Botswana and Malawi and Mauritius respectively as the most peaceful nation in Africa.
