The table below highlights the people that have been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari since the inception of his administration on May 29, 2015. Out of the 19 nominations the president has made since he came into office 15 of the people seems to have come from the Northern part of Nigeria. This has made some political analysts suggest perhaps that the president has a clear bias towards people from the Northern part of Nigeria. The former Presidents (GEJ) Federal appointments seem to have had a more balanced approach, although the South East region is underrepresented in both periods. Nevertheless, this is still early stages as there are over 60 appointments left to be made. Whilst tribal sentiments remains a hot issue for a lot of Nigerians, many are more inclined towards seeing a Nigeria that works regardless of where the change agents are from. In the face of dipping oil prices – Nigeria’s official exchange rate has slumped over 20 per cent in the last year to about 198 naira for a dollar, according to Thomson Reuters’ data. In a bid to defend its currency, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in June blocked imports of 41 items, including private jets, toothpicks and rice. CNBC Africa used rice from the list as a case study to examine the impact of this policy almost two months after it was implemented. Rice was selected as it is Nigeria’s top staple food and according to Akinwumi Adesina, who will become Africa Development Bank’s President In September and was Nigeria’s former agricultural minister, the country spends over 350 billion naira annually importing rice. There are strong indications that at least 700 more staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) will be relieved of their posts by the Presidency and management, according to a source. The source further said that staff on salary grade M5, who are mostly senior managers, would likely be affected, adding that this would amount to a massive shakeup in the troubled corporation, which is being repositioned by the new management. read full at: http://nairametrics.com/nnpc-will-sack-this-number-of-work-force-in-days-to-come/ |
