Politics / Melaye’s Recall: Low Turnout For Signatures Verification; Lai Mohammed by Engrboat: 7:45pm On Apr 28, 2018 |
The verification exercise as part of processes for the recall of Sen. Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial District began peacefully on Saturday, but with low turnout. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who monitored the exercise, which started at 8.00 a.m. in the two local governments reports that less than 20 per cent of petitioners had come out as at mid-day. At Ukwo-Okoriko Compound in Koton-Karfe, Ward A, unit 003 with 440 petitioners, only 18 had their signatures verified at about 11.00 a.m. The electoral officer, Musa Iliasu, said only 18 had been verified but added that it was only INEC that would say which signature was genuine or otherwise. At the Ohogabi polling unit near the public tap, 500 petitioners out of the 991 registered voters, only 43 petitioners had their signatures verified by 11:37 a.m. Similarly, in Banda, Lokoja Local Government, Oworo Ward 8, Unit 012 with 512 petitioners out of 1005 registered voters, only 40 were verified at about 12:09 p.m. At Oworo Ward 8, unit 004 with over 3,340 registered voters and 815 petitioners, none of the petitioners had shown up for the exercise at the time of filing this report. At Lokoja Club polling unit, Ward A, unit 016, with 875 petitioners only two had registered their presence at the unit and both complained that their signatures were forged as they were never part of the petitioners. One of the petitioners at Lokoja Club polling unit Ward A, unit 016, Samuel Olukotun, threatened to sue the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for allegedly listing him and his wife as petitioners in the recall bid. Doris Ndakwo, a member representing Lokoja II at the State House of Assembly, said the process was new and people did not quite understand. She added that some people came out but could not find their names. Ndakwo, however, commended the peaceful disposition of the people. https://twitter.com/FMICNigeria/status/990230697485926400 http://www.nan.ng/news/melayes-recall-low-turnout-for-signatures-verification/

Politics / Ekiti 2018: I Offer To Stay Away From Primaries For Peace ―fayose by Engrboat: 7:26am On Apr 19, 2018 |
Ekiti 2018: I offer to stay away from primaries for peace ―Fayose GOVERNOR Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has offered to vacate the state or stay away from the governorship primaries of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled for May 8, 2018, to buttress his neutrality in the coming polls. Governor Fayose spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday while welcoming the national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, former Senate President, David Mark and other leaders of the party, who were in the state to reassure the party faithful of their desire to conduct free and fair primaries. They had come to Ekiti as a follow-up to an earlier meeting in Abuja to mediate in the crisis generated in the party by Governor Fayose’s support of his deputy, Professor Kolapo Olusola, for the governorship. He, however, noted that whether he was absent or not at the primary, this would make no difference as any candidate he supports stood a better chance to carry the day. The governor, who described himself as “the only reigning professor of politics in the state,” said without attempting to play God, he was aware he could win the election without being physically present on the day of the election. He reiterated his support for his deputy to emerge as the candidate of the party in the July 14 election but said such backing of his deputy did not stop others equally interested in seeking the ticket. He said: “If other aspirants are not comfortable with my presence on the day of the primary, I am ready to vacate the state if that will usher the needed peace. “What I know however is that with God almighty behind me, I will still come back to receive certificate of victory from my people.” Earlier in an address to the crowd that welcomed the leaders of the PDP, Prince Secondus reiterated that all stakeholders, especially all the governorship aspirants, of their determination to be unbiased in the conduct of the exercise. Secondus said: “I assure you once again, there will be transparency and the process would not cheat anybody. I urge you to join the leaders to work together to ensure free and fair transparent primaries, eminent Nigerian are conducting the primaries. “We urge you to remain calm. We also urge INEC and security agents not to be partial but come to defend democracy. Doing that the best if our people will serve the people the best. From here we are moving to other parts of the country for sensitisation.” Also speaking Senator Mark, who was the chairman of the reconciliation committee, said: “First is that I have been working on bringing peace to Ekiti by reconciling all parties and that has been done very well. I thank you supporters for the peace and agreement to work together. “Secondly is to assure you that the process leading to the final election of whoever will become PDP candidate in Ekiti for the July poll will be free fair and credible. If we are insisting that INEC must be fair, it means we will have to do so ourselves at the party level. Nobody will write delegates’ names. Everyone will vote for the candidate of his choice. “We will ensure this and all stakeholders will ensure it. We want to show the world what internal democracy is. Internal democracy will ensure that you all fight for your preferred candidates and we will ensure that.” At the meeting were the deputy governor, Professor Kolapo Olubunmi Olusola, Senator Biodun Olujimi and Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, who are all aspirants in the election. http://www.tribuneonlineng.com/ekiti-2018-i-offer-to-stay-away-from-primaries-for-peace-%E2%80%95fayose/ 2 Likes 1 Share

Politics / Buhari Govt Has Maximum Disrespect For Rule Of Law – Ozekhome by Engrboat: 4:20pm On Apr 09, 2018 |
Senior advocate of Nigeria Mike Ozekhome has faulted federal government’s release of names of alleged looters of Nigeria’s treasury. The Nigerian government had last week named persons alleged to have embezzled the federation account, particularly during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. But Ozekhome says the people whose names are on the list have been in court and that the government has not been able to prove their cases. “In any case, many of these people whose names were contained in the list already have their cases in court,” he told Sun newspapers. “These are people that the same government filed charges against and they have not been able to prove any of the charges, some of them going to three years now. “It is the same government through the EFCC, ICPC or police that is always asking for adjournment. So, what they are trying to do by doing this is to acquiesce the judiciary by painting the people corrupt so that the judge will say, ‘well, the executive has already said the people are corrupt so let us find a way to jail them at all costs.’ “So, it shows that they have maximum disrespect for the rule of law and for the judicial process, which they themselves indicated has commenced. But we are going to take some actions against Lai Mohammed and the Federal Government. “Some of them will be contempt proceedings and some will be defamation action, because until a court of law proves a person guilty, you can never call him a looter as they have done to many Nigerians. http://scannewsnigeria.com/news/buhari-govt-has-maximum-disrespect-for-rule-of-law-ozekhome/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter

Politics / Buhari Now ATM To Scammers by Engrboat: 11:12pm On Apr 08, 2018 |
One of those that went to Aso Rock to scam Buhari claiming to be "Arewa Pastors" has been identified as "Henry Sado" who claims to be a Bishop, but findings revealed that he is neither a Bishop nor ever pastored any church. According to our discovery he does not live in the North and has no business in the north, rather he resides in Edo State. When his face was identified in the picture (as he is marked in these pictures) his facebook account was traced and messages were sent to his friends. One of his friends contacted that responded agreed that Bishop Henry Sado truly went to Aso Rock. He also revealed that his activities indicate that Buhari must have given them huge amount of money. His friend, who also abhorred what the group did, said that "he is spending lavishly and he even bought a new phone worth N136,000. And this is the same person that his phone couldn't browse well and his battery is always running down fast, that it's always a serious challenge to get him on phone." He further revealed as follows, "in fact, his Facebook account is full of posts from his friends and even on his last birthday he could not respond, upon all the birthday greetings sent to him through Facebook due to bad phone and weak battery." He concluded. We will continue to dig into this matter. Since they promised Buhari to expose the Pastors that are against him (Buhari), we will first expose all of them to the world as Judas Iscariot. And we will continue to move against Buhari until we retire him from politics back to Daura and nothing will happen to us by the grace of God. Nigeria is our beloved country, no Judas Iscariot can stand us in our mission to send Buhari and his APC out of Aso Rock.

Politics / Some Indications Of Nigeria’s Sickness, By Pius Adesanmi by Engrboat: 10:39pm On Apr 08, 2018 |
by Pius Adesanmi 1) Orji Uzor Kalu, the man running round the country on "advocacy visits" for Buhari 2019 is an EFCC indictee currently on trial for N3.2 billion fraud. 2) Buhari has been consorting and doing photo-ops with an EFCC indictee being tried for corruption by his own administration. Orji Uzor Kalu in fact crossed over to APC where all sins are forgiven once you admit Buhari as your personal Lord and Saviour. 3) None of the media organizations (Premium Times, Cable, etc) reporting Orji Uzor Kalu's advocacy visits have satisfied the ethical requirement of mentioning his EFCC docket in their reports. The cleanse and normalize him as a credible opinion leader on an assignment for Buhari. 4) Because Baba is never responsible for anything, including who he consorts with and who he allows into his presence for photo-ops, Buharideens will say that this is much ado about nothing because Baba is not responsible for Orji Uzor Kalu's advocacy for him. https://sundiatapost.com/2018/04/08/%E2%80%8Bsome-indications-of-nigerias-sickness-by-pius-adesanmi/

Myd44 do they have anything in common that you have to close the thread Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has expressed concern over the release of names of senators tagged as looters by the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed. Saraki who spoke in Jos, Plateau State on Saturday a at retreat on “Strengthening Executive-Legislature Relations” said it was wrong for an arm of government to call members of the other arm looters. “In a situation where a particular arm of government stands up and calls people from another arm of government thieves, looters and other names, how can we work together? How? “It is not possible. It is not realistic. If we collaborate, the country will be better for it,” Saraki stated. http://thenationonlineng.net/saraki-faults-lai-mohammed-on-tagging-of-senators-as-looters/ Just saying ni oo cc: seun, lalasticlala |

Politics / Saraki: Senators Angry Over Buhari's Approval Of $1bn For Security Equipment by Engrboat: 12:15pm On Apr 08, 2018 |
Senate President Bukola Saraki weighed in on the raging controversy over approval given by President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account for the purchase of weapons to fight Boko Haram insurgency and other security challenges facing the country on Saturday. Speaking at a retreat on “Strengthening Executive -Legislature Relations” organized by the Senate Press Corps held in Jos, Plateau state, the Senate President said the controversies could have been averted if the executive had collaborated better with the legislature on the issue. He noted that some senators are already angry over the manner the approval was announced without taking them into confidence. Bukola Saraki “Just a few days ago, there was the issue of providing funding for the purchase of security equipment. In a good environment, such an issue needed to have been discussed with lawmakers. “Already, some senators are angry. They said they were not consulted by the executive before such a decision was taken. These are the issues we are talking about,” the Senate President said. He added that the Executive and the legislature are partners and need each other since the constitution does not allow one arm to work alone. He added that some heads of security agencies in Nigeria are contributing to the frosty relationship between the executive and the legislature. “There is no the security architecture of this country that can work without a strong synergy between the executive and the legislature. “When you see certain agencies, who by their actions and utterances frustrate the relationship between the two arms, you begin to wonder. “What do we need to do? Do the police need more funding or more powers? Do they need new legislation to strengthen them? These are the issues where the executive and the legislature must work together. “I needed to be here to speak on these issues. It is not just about today. Posterity will be here to judge us that what I am saying is true. If we do not change the way we behave, we will remain like this for many years to come,” he said. He added that collaboration and engagement between the Executive and the Legislature also needed to achieve the goal of quick passage of the annual budget http://saharareporters.com/2018/04/07/saraki-senators-angry-over-buharis-approval-1bn-security-equipment

Politics / Edo Tribunal Updates: INEC Close Case, Failed To Produce Witnesses by Engrboat: 1:29pm On Feb 20, 2017 |
Thr independent Electoral Commission closes its defense case at the Edo election petition tribunal without calling in any witnesses as promised last week, instead, they decided to tender documents already tendered by the petitioners. The Edo elections tribunal sitting in Benin City has admitted in evidence copies of INEC forms EC8B and EC8C used in the 2016 Edo governorship election, for all of the eighteen local government areas in the state. The forms were presented to the court by INEC counsel Onyinye Anumonye, without any objection by counsel to the PDP and its governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Roland Otaru, SAN. The documents were labelled exhibits by chairman of the three member tribunal, Justice Ahmed Badamasi. The documents are apparently the same documents that the petitioners in the case, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu (POI) submitted in their petitions. It can be reported that many of the youth corp members approached to testify refused, claiming that they can’t lie under oath. Even the professors from Ekiti university who superintended over the flawed election also failed to come to court to testify. The implications of this according to pundits is that INEC is unable to defend the results that they declared, which awarded victory to Mr Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Party (APC). The next in line to make submission is the APC, after which the judges will consider all the documents and give their verdict. The Petitioners have asked the Edo State Elections Petition Tribunal to declare them winner of the September 28 Gubernatorial election in Edo state because, according to facts in their petition, they scored highest number of valid votes in the election.
