Do you know my tribe? An owo man will find it hard to understand an Akure man. Though I think owo was under the control of Akure.

They all saw themselves as German under different kingdoms. They do come together sometimes to fight the Romans.

Someone United them all under one country. The British didn't make the mistake of classifying the Yorubas and Nupes under one ethnic group.

let's ilaje for instance

the believe is that we speak ilaje even when the language is close to other present day Yoruba

there was word like Yoruba describing the present day Yoruba as YORUBA in precolonial era

just like you being an owo man

coming to fight that you are saying is a common thing in war strategy

the Saxon made alliance with the welsh ( wales ) to fight the Danes

alliance is a war strategy that doesn't make you one outside the war except when the both parties involve decide to uphold oneness just like Yoruba of post colonial era

Yorubas of owo and Akure do not speak the same language. You're talking out of point bro. Edo is not a name of an ethnic group or tribe.

Most Yorubas trace their ancestry to Ife. The Oyo Ilorin war was caused by a Fulani man taking over power in ilorin and he tried to expand his kingdom into other Yorubas kingdom.

Oyo was controling most part of Yoruba land, it was after some part decided to stop paying royalty to Oyo kingdom that led to a civil war called the kiriji war.

There was a time German were not United. They had different kingdoms before they were united.

do you know that Benin was and is still called Edo before colonial period came or do you know that no edo man call himself Benin man except Edo man ?

before Germany became united, do all region called themselves German?

mr man don't let your emotions or love for your tribe keep you away from the truth

me saying akure and owo speak the same language is just to make my example clearer being that they have all adopted to be called Yoruba...

nothing more

What of the war between Oyo and Ilorin? Akure was a kingdom on it's own. If it had ask for help from owo kingdom, maybe they would have come to their aid.

this war among themselves only shows how divided they were

one thing I want you to understand is that

the Yoruba for example of akure and owo ordinarily speak the same language no doubt but the argument is that in those days

an owo man regard himself as an owo speaking man same with an akure man..,.

this is a prefect resemblance to saxons and Danes but today they are all English

there was nothing like Yoruba or igbo being use to generalise them in precolonial era like Edo had.

those claiming opposite view with the op on this very topic are only doing it to claim worth of unity among his tribe in ancient time especially when talking about Igbo and Yoruba people

the fact that the Yorubas never had a word that generalized the entire people in those days as one was the reason Benin military could come to akure cast war on them and the nearest owo man will sit comfortable in his land saying "its not my concern"

this unarguably shows the people never have that unity in precolonial era even in the east

I could argue with anyone that the Edo's had a unifying tribal name in precolonial era before many Nigeria tribes today

the topic is educating nice one op

this topic is an absolute waste of time

the two state ( especially Edo) have never made their stand know to anybody about joining anybody if 9ja divide which is not going to happen.

Edo believe in self independence and it come to that situation, I don't see edo joining either east or west

if you have not live in this area don't come here to say rubbish like this people will like to be with east or west

go to Edo and find out what a typical edo man have to say about himself

go to Delta and find same about an Urhobo man

don't come here to say rubbish

Yes I know that. And I appreciated your spotting it.

Oh okay, you didn’t mean to type that. Got it.

It is reflected multiple times in different texts. Hence it is deliberate.

A-B-C-D... are not Bini (or Yoruba) concepts. They are alien concepts borrowed to express our native words in written form.

And many words (native or even foreign) are sometimes pronounced slightly differently from how they appear in writing.

“Ooni” used to be spelt as “Owoni” in some 1800 text, but the pronunciation is nevertheless as the former.

And no where did I insist that it is pronounced in a certain way.

Refer again to my comment, my words are:

(A) This Ogiamien is also spelt as Ogiamwen in classical Benin text

(B) The Benin one is also spelt Ogiamwen

You clearly didn’t know it is also spelt as Ogiemwen in some Benin text.

Hence you don’t know what you don’t know. Clear?

don't try to prove that you are correct because it will lead you into more trouble

OGAIME- the title of the olu of warri means king over the riverine terrain, the text you wrote that made me quote had Ogiame on it. I thought you quoted my correction I sent to gregyboy and I came to correct it. the Ogiamwen you wrote does not have any meaning in Benin it certainly was a mistake that is what I am trying to tell you. the Ogiamien is not even in full spelling it that way won't reflect it full meaning, the e matters a lot in this context. lol at you don't know what you don't know me full bini man come and take lectures on the language you will need it to carry out this argument proper

TAO11:

Lol.

You just said there is no Ogiame in Benin only to reach a spelling of “Ogiame” for the Benin family.

Now get this:
(1) Ogiamien is the name of Evian’s son. Their saga led to the invitation sent to Ife.

This Ogiamien is also spelt as Ogiamwen in classical Benin text.

You don’t know what you don’t know.

(2) Ogiame on the other hand is the title of the Olu in Itsekiri land.

madam you are too confuse to understand

you think only what you see on paper can save you here

let me shock you even if you bring anything classical book or whatsoever

the word ogiamwen in Benin has no meaning when talking about Ogiamien

if I still explain now you will still dance in your ignorance

And he is correct as far as the underlined phrase in the attachment is concerned.

Ogie” is your Bini word for “king”. Make sure to love, respect, and embrace it.

Oba” is the Yoruba equivalent which my ancestors fed to your daddies & mommies.

It is a colonial Yoruba relic upon the Binis forever and ever. Amen!

I think Oba means "king of kings", in other words "emperor". That is the translation which a French visitor to Benin empire gave in the 18th century.

he is seen as such because of the position he hold but the meaning of Oba is someone shining

if you speak edo language you will understand what am saying

all my life I have studied edo language on how to read explain interpret etc

in the case of obaseki, obakhavbaye, obarisiagbon obaradesagbon etc which are chieftency title revolving round the Oba himself

eg obaseki..... the Oba is more than business, wealth, trade etc the SE in obaseki is originally stress not to be mistaken with OBASEKI (The oba has reach market ) the SE in this other world is not stress.

obakhavbaye... the Oba decide whatever happens on earth.

in Benin most chieftaincy titles revolve around the oba, then what is the meaning of Oba ?

that is what will have explain countless times but some ignoramus decide to remain dull

so at this end no one can hold Benin responsible for their genetic tribal dullness

my brother Una get time to follow person wen ignorance wear crown for him head dey talk upon how gregyboy explain everything about Oba ,ogie and the rest for her, her brain still dull forming I too know even when she nor dey understand edo language

Was warri under Bendel in 1979?

Was Benin the powerful monarch in the old Bendel?

Wasn't a former Olu's mother of Portuguese orgin?

So why was the law written in 1979? Almost 100 years after the first Old of warri?

Was the ancestors sleeping when someone with Portuguese blood ruled warri In the previous century?

was Oba of Benin the governor then ?

what am saying is that

the law was unanimously written in 1979 by the same itshekiri for a reason

if they want to change it, it should be unanimous

as it stand if ayiri decide to go to court he will win the case because the still stand

until they come to a unanimous agreement on the way forward regarding the law the tsola thing is a waste of time except they want problem in their kingdom

you don't see white and call it red

becoming king is no by choice but destiny so saying tsola is our choice are wasting their time when the law is there

am an Edo man I will not take side because of that
so I expect you not to take side because you are a Yoruba man

if they want tsola as king it is easy...

let them do away with the edict unanimously after all nobody force the law on them in the first place

tomorrow the king mother could be an Urhobo woman an Igbo woman ijaw woman Hausa woman even Fulani woman then causing more similar problem

A law was written at the Benin Palace in the 1970s when warri was still part of Bedel state to prevent Itsekiri and Yoruba from reuniting.

It was done because the Olu of warri then protested to remain with Yorubas when Midwest region broke out of Western region.

They even started spelling their words differently to further the division e.g they decided to start spelling Sola as Shola

Decades later the law is being put to test because Itsekiri and Yorubas often intermarry

Case in point the owner of Vangurad newspaper(an itsekiri) married a Yoruba woman.

How do you tell an itsekiri bearing Ayo, Sola, Ire and Femi that he or she has nothing in common with a Yoruba?

so na Benin palace dem for write the law for 1979

you too dull

the only thing that would make him become olu is because he married an edo woman in order to secure his children

but this can also help him

not because one kind ooni say something

if ayiri decide to go to court with the law who do you think will win

do you think your online wailing can help issues ?

the law is the law.....

the father was not stupid he knew the law why didn't he change it as king
