The political relationship between Iboes and Yoruba was very hostile so even if we do not go into blaming anyone . The fact is Azikiwe and Balewa put Awolowo in prison. You just want to pretend that Akintola was not murdered . That was the mood in Yorubaland at the time . People were very angry with the iboes for the January killings and the triumphal taunting behaviour afterwards. Yoruba are just not as violent as some others but to try to pretend that Awolowo was an adviser to Iboes is just silly/

Many Iboes express this entitlement that Awolowo should have declared ? Was he in the Nigerian Army? That a civilian wake up in the middle of a military government and declare a republic? Ojukwu was a soldier. Awolowo was a lawyer who had just come out of prison where he had been for several years PUT THERE BY Azikiwe and Balewa and released by Gowon . He was then supposed to repay Gowon by declaring an Oduduwa republic. As a lawyer and elder he had more sense than Ojukwu. The loss of lives consequent on Ojukwu's action was PREDICTABLE> Many Iboes like you say it was necessary and unavoidable and an act of bravery .The Yoruba have a very long term perspective in our actions and you see it as cowardice. Well if Ojukwu was suicidal with a mandate from you .Awolowo had no mandate of suicide from the Yoruba . Do not forget that in the Western Region when the coup occurred Akintola 's party was in charge before Ibo soldiers murdered him. So Awolowo had no elected mandate for all Yoruba. I just told you that it is not true just the same way you made assumption about those places you listed which the Yoruba still have very significant population . You can go through google map to check the identity of the streets.
Even Okota is dominated by street names of the Yoruba and Edo names like Godwin Omonua.
The Northerners, particularly the Hausas, will likely be the next after the Yoruba.

They have a close community and hardly open up to Southerners. You should dress well like a northerner and visit Alaba Rago, Idi Araba, Agege, Badia, Obalende etc, , you will be shocked at how Hausas are far more and their communities very highly densely populated.
