bad people:

@eghost, thxs my bro,

@fbiswagger, why do you jump into conclusion when you dont even know what went wrong, i proofread at the final stage, in the passport office, there have been cases of after proofread the officials still go ahead to make all these little mistake after printout of the e-passport, so stop jumping on issues,
who rattles your cage?

If you say you proof-read, then that's ok. Although, I have never heard of the officers making any mistakes after the data has been proof-read by the owner and stored to the server. But its ok.

bad people:

House, pls there is mistake on e-passport made by passport office, instead of SINA, they typed SHINA, now am applying for a student visa at uk embassy, all my other documents carried the correct name, SINA, its onlly my e-passport and my bank account carrying the mistake SHINA, will uk embassy denied me visa

Your non-nonchalance is why you are in this situation cos when doing an E-Passport, right after the digital capture of your picture / digital capture of your signature, your Data is entered on the computer in the passport office right in front of you and you are shown a screen to confirm your details before the details are finally saved to the server for your passport printing. Am sure your non-nonchalance did not let you spot the difference in your name.
Travel / Re: Kenyan Transit Visa For Nigerian Nationals by fbiswagger: 7:11am On Mar 28, 2011
anfanio:

When is a transit visa required? A transit visa is required for visitors who leave the airport or seaport for the specific purpose of travelling to a third country (i.e. to await a connecting flight, to await boarding a (cruise) ship, or to travel overland to a neighbouring country by bus/car/shuttle). Proof of the connecting flight/cruise or overland transfer is required.
Please note: The maximum validity of a transit visa is three days (72 hours).

Do you need a transit visa if you do not leave the transit zone at the airport while waiting for a connecting flight?
No.

Steve_101, Thanks for your suggestion but your advice was not complete as you did not state if I would need a transit visa to pass through Addis-Ababa as a Nigerian national even though I do not intend leaving the airport. Please respond

Good choice on the airline. wink Yes,you will need a transit Visa if you want to venture outside the airport during your stopover in Nairobi.Only East African citizens are exempt.

Thanks for your reply. However, I do not want to venture outside the airport. Do I still need a transit visa even if I am staying in the airport till the connecting flight to Dubai is set to move?

Politics / The Truth About The Inec Ddc Machines by fbiswagger: 10:09pm On Jan 19, 2011
2011 Elections. Credible or Incredible?

Voters Registration:

The Direct Capture devices (Toys) used for the voters registration are nothing but:
Zinox Laptop
Finger print scanner
Webcam
Printer
External HDD
Rechargeable Battery.
Open source software (OpenVR version 1.2 ).

These machines are nothing but standalone devices that capture information that can be easily manipulated.
Basically, data is captured and stored on the provided external hard disks.

Information System Security

The essential information system security principles are:
Confidentiality
Integrity
Availability.

Confidentiality:
This is the principle that objects(data) are not disclosed to unauthorized subjects.

Integrity:
This is the principle that objects(data) retain their veracity, and are only intentionally modified by authorized subjects.

Availability:
This is the principle that authorized subjects are granted timely and uninterrupted access to objects(data).

Let us analyze the information system (OpenVR Version 1.2) used for the exercise based on the above principles.

Confidentiality: The Assistant Registration Officer 1 (A youth corps member) who has access to the external hard disk used for the exercise can easily plug it into another computer and make a clone.

Integrity: Since the stored data is not encrypted at all, it can be manipulated easily.

Avaiability: There is no network in place. This means that data for a particular area can only be accessed when the external hard disk is transported to the authorized subject.

A lot of things are going wrong with the ongoing registration exercise, the most common being lack of power supply to charge the laptop batteries.

The citizens are now restricted to voting only where they are registered because the system lacks a central database. How then will the voting process be monitored in real time?

Due to the inefficiency of the fingerprint scanners, the registration officers have resorted to registering only two or three out of the required ten fingers per person

Do we have to wait for another millennium before we can match the previous US elections?

A lot more was expected from INEC. It is now obvious that funds were misappropriated. Information system experts were not consulted before the toys called direct capture devices were obtained and deployed.

This brings us to the big question:

Will the 2011 elections be credible or incredible?

If they want to know how real and also get value before parting with their money, even 1 million people definitely need to see me, atleast to know where i am on ground. Is high time we need to do things differently, this is no fraud, is no trick and so they will see me. besides how will they pay me, you think i will give out account number of a bank?. guy grow up. this is real

Not like I trust you cos I know that the best scam artist ply their trade by meeting their targets face to face as it helps remove doubt. However, this is a world of so many possibilities, therefore, I will leave anyone that deals with you to do so at his/her own risk.

I think OP's question is to know if someone who flight from Nigeria to Algeria via the UK would need a transit visa for the UK.

OP didn't ask for the cheapest or the best itinerary to travel from Nigeria to Algeria.

There are many reasons why OP may choose to go to Algeria via the UK. Maybe he has a free ticket that would allow him  ONLY to take that route. Maybe OP have to meet someone in the transit zone at the airport in the UK. Maybe OP intention is to claim refugee status at the airport in the UK ,  the reasons are countless.

Having said that, can someone answer OP's  original question?

Travel / Re: Please Recommend A Good Hotel In Lagos (ikoyi/ Vi Area) by fbiswagger: 5:03am On Nov 17, 2010
SweetLola:

Hello

I'm visiting Lagos this christmas and need to find a good hotel within my budget.

My past experience of hotels in Nigeria is that you can pay good money and still sometimes end up in a filthy room , without a shower (they put a bucket in the bath) or with poor service.

What I'm looking for is somewhere thats clean decent, safe and with good facilities preferably where all the fun and entertainment is i.e Ikoyi / VI/ Lekki

My budget is between $100-$150 per night for a double room (can also go up to $200 but prefer to spend my money on other stuff).  Last time i booked a room I paid £60 per night i.e $120 and couldn't even stay there.

Also if you know of any holiday houses / villas where I can rent the whole house/flat for 2-4 weeks , I'd be grateful , obviously would be prepared to pay a lot more for a whole flat / house.

Thanks for your help

The best hotel you can stay in Victoria Island under a tight budget is Royal Tropicana Hotel @ Ibrahim Waziri Crescent, VI. Their room rates start from N15k (negotiable to a lower price if you are staying for many days). Thats where I stay whenever I am around and their rooms are exquisite, remote control systems, free wifi, 24 hours light (my no.1 requirement), constantly neat, free correct breakfast daily, a stroll away from sliver-bird galleria and more.

And some people may not know, but it shares same fence with Kanu Nwankwo's hotel who's rates starts from N35k per night.

There is no better place to be during the December period than Calabar. Peeps from all states run down here. Hotels are always fully booked to the teeth. People even house tourist in their houses. Guess now you know the mount of human traffic during tht period. And such traffic wont be happening if it wasnt worth it.

Hello fellow nairalanders!!!! Well I'm taking off to nigeria on the 8th of December with my little brother(so excited!!!) from heathrow airport  and I was wondering what kind places we could see in Nigeria. We will arrive in Abuja on the 9th December And I would like to know what kind of attractions are there. Also we will be going to Lagos after that too so this christams holiday we will packed full of surprises!! Any attractions in Lagos pls tell me as I would like to be prepared for when we go!!! Most parts of our time in nigeira will be in the east of nigeria which will be enugu (where my untie lives)and anambra(my state!!!!) it's not my first time going to nigeria as it is my 7th of going but most times we normally going straight to the village without explorig nigeria propely!! Thanks and sorry of any grammar mistakes I was using my iPod for this!!!

Why bore yourself with Lagos and Abuja. Visit Calabar; from the 1st to 31st of December is always total holiday. Everyday is a day to remember. Plus the Calabar carnival, Food Festival, Night Shows everyday of the 31 days with best of international and local artiste performing for free at the stadium. Too many to mention. Now I guess you can change your itinery for something worthwhile.

Hello fellow Nigerians. Please before you board that plane watch out. Especially on Arik air. Arik air has been parading a problematic plane on her fleet. Boeing 737 with registration MARTIN-5N MJC. Please beware of this! Some people have boarded this plane and landed safely with regrets and complains- I boarded this same flight on friday [12 Nov 2010] and wao God was the one that helped us. Please do not kill yourself- this plane is problematic. Arik air have been managing this flight for the past two months. DO NOT DIE PREMATURELY! Arik this is not safe for Nigerians!

Please can you lay clear facts on your assertion? Thanks.
