FGN shuts 18 foreign university campuses over fake degree
The Federal Government has banned 18 foreign universities operating in Nigeria while warning Nigerians to avoid enrolling in such institutions.
The Federal Ministry of Education referred to the banned universities – five universities from the United States, six from the United Kingdom, and three Ghanaian tertiary institutions – as “degree mills’’.
This comes after the Ministry announced the temporary suspension of evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates from the Republic of Benin and Togo.
Announcing the ban in a statement published on its website, the National Universities Commission explained that the Federal Government had not licensed the affected universities and they had been closed down.
It stated, “The National Universities Commission wishes to announce to the general public, especially parents and prospective undergraduates that the under-listed ‘degree mills’ have not been licensed by the Federal Government and have therefore been closed down for violating the Education (National Minimum Standards, etc.) Act of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”

Nigeria Is Now An IDM Camp, PDP Slams President Tinubu for Withholding Workers’ December Salary
The opposition party which ruled Nigeria for 16 years from 1999 to May 2015, slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Tinubu administration for failure to pay the December salary of workers.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the President Bola Tinubu-led administration of turning Nigerians to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) following the exacerbating economic crunch ravaging the country.
The opposition party which ruled Nigeria for 16 years from 1999 to May 2015, slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Tinubu administration for failure to pay the December salary of workers.
A statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the failure to pay workers salary during the Christmas and New Year festivities confirmed that the administration was out to frustrate and inflict more pains on Nigerians despite the current economic hardship ravaging the country.
“The party describes the failure to discharge such sensitive obligation to workers especially at this yuletide period as unacceptable and further shows the level of insensitivity of the Tinubu-led APC administration towards the welfare of Nigerians,” the statement added.
“By this action, the Tinubu administration has practically turned our nation into a huge Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp with millions of Nigerians becoming beggars and observing the period in hunger, anguish and misery.
“It is obvious that the non-payment of the December salary critically needed by the workers including our gallant security operatives at this period is consistent with the atrocious character of APC administration to weaponize poverty and further suppress Nigerians to surrender to totalitarianism.”
PDP questioned whether the deliberate action of the government of president Tinubu was not provocative considering that the president has been “busy partying and luxuriating” with APC leaders, while workers who are putting in their time and energy in the service of the nation are left with nothing to feed and celebrate with their families and loved ones.
“Sadly, President Tinubu would rather approve the frittering of our nation’s scarce resources to sponsor cronies, political minions, hangers-on and

Senators Put Under Pressure By Tinubu Presidency To Pass 2024 Budget Without Scrutiny –Source
The Senator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, asked how the senators were expected to pass a national budget without having the necessary details.
Despite reports indicating that the National Assembly would pass the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N27.5tn on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, senators are yet to get a copy of the budget for scrutiny, SaharaReporters has reliably gathered.
It was earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu last Wednesday presented to a joint session of the National Assembly the 2024 Budget, which he christened, ‘Budget of Renewed Hope’.
However, last Friday both the Senate and the House of Representatives passed the budget for a second reading.

Speaking during the plenary session, the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, hinted that the budget might be passed by the lawmakers on December 19 before embarking on their Christmas and New Year break.
Despite senators applauding President Bola Tinubu for his good intentions for the country, however, many of them decried the failure of the executive to provide the details of the budget.
The budget was passed for a second reading and referred to the Committee on Appropriations after being put to a voice vote by Barau, who presided over the session.
“The budget is hereby referred to the Committee on Appropriations and the committee is mandated to submit the report to this chamber on December 19,” Barau stated.
On Tuesday the budget was referred to the Committee on Appropriation, copies of the budget had not been made available to senators for adequate scrutiny.
The source told states that the senators were being put under pressure by the presidency to pass the budget even though details had not been made available.
“The National Assembly is expected to pass the budget before 31 December. But till now, the senators don’t have a copy of the budget for scrutiny. They are under pressure to pass the budget even without details available,” a Senator shared
The Senator, who spoke on condition of anonymity, asked how the senators were expected to pass a national budget without having the necessary details.
“We don’t know whether so many things are padded in the budget. Making a copy of the budget available to senators would allow them to look into all the sectors

Nigerian Delegates Sponsored By Tinubu Are In Dubai Moving Around, Taking Selfies, Snap-Chatting – Sowore
Sowore describes the trip as a jamboree and a waste of money adding that many of those who attended the event were moving around aimlessly taking selfies and chatting and posting pictures on instagram.
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the last general elections, Omoyele Sowore, has slammed the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government for attending the climate summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates with 1411 delegates.
He stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while addressing journalists at the Federal High Court, Abuja, where he was standing trial for trumped-up treason charges.
Sowore described the reckless spending of taxpayers’ money by the Tinubu-led government as ridiculous, unacceptable and uncalled for.
He accused the government of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians by leading such huge number of delegates to Dubai when many people at home could not afford to feed or pay school fees for their children.
Sowore said, “There is no difference between Buhari and Tinubu’s regimes; they are the same characters and they are both sick, incompetent and corrupt. As we are speaking they are in Dubai wasting Nigeria’s money. They were accused of taking over 1,400 people to Dubai for a jamboree including the Inspector-General of Police leaving Nigeria to go and attend COP28 – something that has nothing to do with policing.
“In an attempt to justify the recklessness they said they only funded 422 people. What is Nigeria doing with 422 people in Dubai and average person spending at least $10,000 both for transportation and hotel and when they come back, they will collect estacode that is the kind of the country you are in.

“At the time people are suffering and incapable of celebrating Christmas because nobody can afford to travel home. Nobody can afford to feed, students can’t afford to pay school fees.
“Yet we have this useless government; I say it emphatically; the government is useless for embarking on jamboree trip to Dubai and they don’t even have time to speak. Majority of people that went

80% Percent of Victims of Demolished Homes Are Yorubas, Stop Bringing Ethnic Politics Into Environmental Issues South-West Professional Forum (SOWPROF)

The South-West Professional Forum (SOWPROF) has said that the majority of illegal structures demolished in Lagos are owned by Yoruba people.
The SOWPROF, in a statement signed by its Assistant General Secretary, Lateef Kayode, which was made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, dismissed insinuations that the demolition was targeting a particular group.
The professional group said attempts by a few people to ethnicise the environmental issue is self-serving.
“We have done diligent checks. We have a compilation of all the victims of the demolition in Lagos. We have done extensive compilation of the victims and the issues involved. Some 80 per cent of the victims of the demolished buildings are from the South-West region.”
The group said it is a pity that ethnic politics is being introduced to the attempt by the Lagos State Government to deal with serious environmental hazards that have led to flooding, deaths and that even threaten the future of the people of the state.
It, therefore, urged the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, not to be deterred by parochial critiques introducing ethnic politics into a purely environmental issue.
SOWPROF said it started the compilation of names of the landlords five months ago and that the names of owners of the demolished buildings are available for the public, adding that demolition of illegal buildings is a nationwide issue.
“It takes place in all the South-East, North-West, North-East and South-South. It has happened in Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu, Onitsha, Owerri, Aba, Kaduna, Ilorin, Makurdi and in many cities across the country.
“It is unfortunate that some people are exploring the fragile political situation in the country to cause disaffection using the demolition of illegal buildings in Lagos State as a pun in the game.”

Politics / Ex-president Jonathan Released N1.2billion In Cash To Fund Fayose’s Election In by Featuredgist: 11:52pm On Nov 29, 2023
Ex-President Jonathan Released N1.2billion In Cash To Fund Fayose’s Election In Ekiti In 2014 — Ex-Minister, Obanikoro Tells Court
former Minister of state for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, on Wednesday, told a Federal High Court in Abuja how former president, Goodluck Jonathan’s government used about N2.2billion to support the election of a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose in 2014.
According to the EFCC release on Wednesday evening obtained by SaharaReporters, the former lawmaker said N1.219billion cash was airlifted to Ekiti State because of the inability of a defunct bank, Diamond Bank, to handle huge amounts of such money.
Recall that Fayose and Spotless Investment Limited are standing trial on 11 charges bordering on money laundering and stealing to the tune of N6.9 billion.
The release said, “A former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, told Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, Abuja, how the inability of a defunct commercial bank (Diamond Bank) to disburse huge sums of money prompted the airlifting of N1.219billion cash to former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose for the governorship election in the state.
Fayose is facing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, alongside his firm, Spotless Investment Limited, following their alleged involvement in N6.9 billion money laundering. When prosecution counsel, Wahab Shittu, SAN, asked him to shed light on the source of the said N1.219billion, Obanikoro replied that he did not know the source of the money and that he only got the information on the money from the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki (retd).

“He explained that it was the former NSA that contacted him that the said money had been paid into the account of Sylvan Mcnamara Ltd.
“He told the court that: “I was a minister under Jonathan administration in 2014. Sometime in 2014, we were going to have an election in Ekiti State. I was saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the activities in the election. Some days before the election, I got a call from Governor Fayose asking me if I received any message for him from ONSA, I can recall that prior to that, we had some activities among which was fund raising for the purpose of that election.
“When Mr. Fayose called, I told him I would call him later. I had a phone conversation with the NSA, and was told he would get back to me. After, he got back to me that N2.2billion was paid into the account of Sylvan Mcnamara Ltd,” he added.
“The money came from the NSA. I can’t vouch for the source of the funds. Only the NSA can explain the source of the fund.”
“I handed over the N1.219million cash to Agbele for onward delivery to Fayose. I did not take any money or N19million, contrary to a publication by a Lagos-based online platform.”
When asked about his relationship with Sylvan Mcnamara Ltd, the former minster stated that “the account was created to deal with the issue of Boko Haram in Lagos, the account was created by Taiwo Kareem and was used for the purpose of disbursing funds for election. I put a call through to let Fayose know that the money had been paid. Diamond Bank had said it did not have the capacity to make the funds available, so we opted to airlift the funds. The funds were airlifted from Lagos in two tranches, the volume was much.”
“Myself, my ADC and my security orderly were there, including a top aide of Fayose to meet Mr. Agbele, the bank manager. I instructed my orderly to escort Mr Agbele and ensure the safe delivery of the money.”
When Shittu asked him about the source and what the funds were meant for, Obanikoro stated that “it was meant for our election in Ekiti. It came from Diamond Bank. N1.219billion was moved from Diamond Bank out of the N2.2billion.”

Crime / Nigerian Anti-graft Agency, EFCC Arrests Music Executive, Ogbeni In Lagos For Al by Featuredgist: 11:40pm On Nov 29, 2023
Nigerian Anti-Graft Agency, EFCC Arrests Music Executive, Ogbeni In Lagos For Alleged $250,000 Fraud
Ogbeni was arrested in Lagos State on Tuesday by EFCC operatives after he was traced to a hotel in the posh Ikoyi area, SaharaReporters gathered.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a Nigerian music executive, Mr Efe Ogbeni, for alleged $250,000 fraud committed in the United States of America.
Ogbeni was arrested in Lagos State on Tuesday by EFCC operatives after he was traced to a hotel in the posh Ikoyi area, SaharaReporters gathered.
A source in the anti-graft commission also confirmed the arrest on Wednesday evening.

“He has been arrested by the EFCC. He was arrested at a hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday,” he said.
In July 2022, it was reported that Ogbeni was dragged before a United States District Court of Western Tennessee by Prime Reality Ventures LLC, a Venture Capital Company in the US, for allegedly defrauding the company and its Principal to the tune of $250,000.
The defendants, Onefeme Ogbeni, Olayinka Odunlami and Nelly Wambugu were facing numerous charges on conspiracy of obtaining money by false pretences.
According to the court documents obtained by SaharaReporters, Ogbeni alongside two others committed the crime between July 2021 and September 2021 in the US.
Prime Reality Ventures (the Company), said the suspected fraudsters intentionally and under false pretences presented a dummy investment opportunity in the African oil and gas industry which turned out to be a sham.
According to the company, sometime in July 2021, the defendants approached the organisation and its owners about investing in the African oil and gas market.
“Efe Ogbeni and his co-defendants falsely presented themselves as being versed and having the requisite skill and expertise and contacts in and outside of Africa,” it said.
“Interested to diversify their investment portfolio, the company arranged meetings between the plaintiff and the defendants. Along the line, the defendants intentionally told Reality Ventures LLC and owners that there were other investors involved in the project and one of them is willing to sell his equity in the project.

Politics / Tinubu Still Nursing ‘Knee Surgery’ – Bayo Onanuga by Featuredgist: 2:29pm On Nov 22, 2023
President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has explained why the president can’t walk properly.

Onanuga disclosed that his principal still nurses a knee injury.

He made the disclosure while stressing that Tinubu was not nursing any other ailment.

In 2021, Tinubu had knee surgery in London, which was before he commenced his presidential campaign.

However, Onanuga said the surgery was responsible for the president’s inability to walk properly.

Responding to questions from Tribune, the presidential aide said Tinubu is not sick.

According to Onanuga: No, he was not sick. We made this clear to Nigerians. Tinubu was as fit as the fiddle in the run-up to that election.

“Before that campaign began, I think a year before, he went for knee surgery, which was not a secret as President Buhari even went to see him in London when he was recuperating.

So, that was what he went to do – knee surgery. That was why he could not walk properly.

When you do knee surgery, you cannot walk like a 25-year-old man. He is still nursing it up till now because it was a major surgery. It is not that he has any other ailment

Old naira notes remain legal tender - CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed that the old naira banknotes will remain a legal tender.
In October 2022, the apex bank introduced the redesign of N200, N500 and N1,000 denominations and certain deadlines were set for the old notes of these denominations to cease as legal tenders.
However, on Tuesday, the CBN informed the public of its desire to extend the legal tender status deadline of the old design of N200, N500 and N1,000 denominations, ad infinitum.

“This is in line with international best practices and to forestall a repeat of earlier experiences,” a statement signed by Isa AbdulMumin, Director, Corporate Communications, said.
“Thus, all banknotes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in accordance with Section 20(5) of the CBN Act 2007, will continue to remain legal tender, ad infinitum, even beyond the initial December 31, 2023, deadline.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria is working with the relevant authorities to vacate the subsisting court ruling on the same subject.
“Accordingly, all CBN branches across the country will continue to issue and accept all denominations of Nigerian banknotes, old and redesigned, to and from deposit money banks (DMBS).
“The general public is enjoined to continue to accept all Naira banknotes (old or redesigned) for day-to-day transactions and handle these banknotes with utmost care, to safeguard and protect the lifecycle of the banknotes.
“Also, the general public is encouraged to embrace alternative modes of payment, e-channels, for day-to-day transactions,” it said.

Crime / Insecurity In Nigeria Was Created By The Political Class — Former Chief Of Army by Featuredgist: 5:53pm On Nov 04, 2023
A former Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Tukur Buratai, has said the insecurity bedeviling the nation since 2009 was the creation of the political class.
He said this on Friday, November 3, while delivering a lecture at the 65th anniversary of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association.
Reports that he also took a swipe at critics calling for his sack over insecurity in the country while he was in office, saying such call stemmed from personal biases rather than an objective evaluation of his performance.
“These individuals might have held negative opinions of General Buratai based on subjective factors, such as personal preferences or biases unrelated to his actual capabilities. It is crucial to approach discussions regarding national security matters with a fair and impartial mindset, focusing on relevant aspects rather than personal biases and idiosyncrasies.
The National Assembly had twice or more passed resolutions calling for the sack of the service chiefs. The President, Muhammadu Buhari had told the ninth National Assembly to mind their business. If properly interpreted, the call by the ninth National Assembly was to derail the democracy by the military.
This should be a lesson for political actors. It was a direct confrontation blaming the service chiefs as if they are the ones who started insecurity. The insecurity being faced in the country since 2009 was the

Business / Why Dangote Refinery Missed Diesel, Jet Fuel October Refining Deadline by Featuredgist: 7:10am On Nov 02, 2023
Why Dangote refinery missed diesel, jet fuel October refining deadline

Sources have provided reasons why Dangote Refinery missed its diesel and jet (aviation) fuel refining deadline.

These sources have attributed that to the inability of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to supply Dangote Refinery with 300,000 barrels of crude oil per day according to an earlier agreement.

Recall that in September 2023, Devakumar Edwin, Executive Director at Dangote Group, mentioned in an exclusive interview with S&P Global Commodity Insights that the refinery aimed to begin diesel and jet fuel refining by October 2023, followed by petrol refining starting in November 2023.

At the time, he had said that the Dangote refinery would receive its first cargo of crude in the next few weeks and would begin producing up to 370,000 barrels per day of diesel and jet fuel from October 2023.

He also noted that by November 30, the refinery will start the phased ramp-up to 650,000 barrels per day of petrol.

He said:

“We are just waiting for the first vessel. And so as soon as it comes in, we can start.”
However, as of today, October 31, the refinery has yet to commence refining activities. Sources familiar with the matter told Nairametrics that a shortage of available crude oil was the reason for this delay.

One of the sources said:

“It is not true that Mr. Edwin Devakumar lied about the dates provided in September. However, there are some delays when it comes to crude deliveries. But the company is working to resolve these challenges and soon the refinery will begin refining activities.”

According to the sources who spoke to Nairametrics, the Nigerian National Petroleum Regulatory Company (NNPC) Limited has not yet fulfilled the agreement with Dangote Refinery for the delivery of 300,000 barrels of crude oil per day to the facility.

Also, the expected crude imports for the refinery, scheduled for this month, have not arrived for unspecified reasons, causing further delays beyond the anticipated delivery time.

Amaju Pinnick Sues Davido For 2.3 Billion Naira And A 4 Days Apology
The former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has taken legal action against Davido for an alleged breach of agreement.
Pinnick claims that Davido failed to appear at the 19th edition of the Warri Again concert in Delta, despite receiving payment and arrangements being made for his transportation.
Pinnick claims Davido received $94,600 to perform at the concert and $18,000 was paid to charter a plane to convey the singer to Warri.

On Tuesday, the organizers of the concert filed a lawsuit seeking N2.3 billion against Davido Music Worldwide (DWM) limited.

Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen made history on Monday night, October 30 as the first Napoli player and Nigerian footballer to make the top 10 of the Ballon d’Or rankings.
The Edo born striker is the No. 8 best football player in the world on the 2023 Ballon d’Or list.
The Nigeria international contributed to Napoli’s first Serie A title in 33 years, becoming the 2022–23 top scorer in the league with 26 goals in 32 appearances.
Napoli also reached the Champions League quarterfinals last season, the best result for the Partenopei in Europe’s elite competition.

Osimhen netted five times in six Champions League games last season, and individual achievements, combined with Napoli’s results, have allowed the 24-year-old to earn a spot in the top 10 of this year’s Ballon d’Or.

Ruud Krol finished 15th in 1980, meaning this is the best finish for a Napoli player in the history of the prestigious award.
