The Federal Government may begin paying salaries, pensions and social welfare benefits through the eNaira under a new Central Bank of Nigeria roadmap aimed at transforming the country’s digital currency into a major payment channel.

The proposal is contained in the Nigeria Payments System Vision 2028, released by the CBN, which outlines plans to expand the use of the eNaira and move it from a pilot project to a core payment rail for government and private-sector transactions.

The eNaira, launched in October 2021 as Africa’s first central bank digital currency, was introduced to deepen financial inclusion, reduce the cost of transactions and remittances, and promote a cashless economy. However, adoption has remained relatively low despite years of regulatory support.

In the new document, the apex bank said it would revisit the existing CBDC framework to better align it with market realities and operational needs.

The CBN stated, “Transition CBDC from pilot to core payment rail through defined use cases.” It identified government-to-person payments, payroll processing, offline payments and micro-enterprise enablement as key domestic applications for the digital currency.

The proposal suggests that government salaries, pensions, conditional cash transfers and other public-sector disbursements could in future be channelled through the eNaira platform as part of efforts to accelerate adoption and improve payment efficiency.

The document further highlighted the programmable-money features of the digital currency, noting that it could support advanced functionalities such as time limits on spending, purpose-specific payments, payment splitting and sub-wallet creation.

According to the CBN, “The ‘programmable money’ feature of digital currency could have additional features such as time-limits, purpose-specific usage, splitting payments, sub-wallets, etc.”

The bank added that the digital currency could also strengthen financial market infrastructure by supporting settlement systems, banks and tokenised financial assets, including bonds and securities, while making transactions faster and cheaper.

The initiative forms part of the broader Payments System Vision 2028, which seeks to modernise Nigeria’s payment ecosystem through greater adoption of digital financial services, stronger payment infrastructure and the deployment of emerging technologies.

CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, in the foreword to the document, said the payments system vision was designed to consolidate Nigeria’s position as a leading digital payments market while improving efficiency, resilience and inclusiveness.

He said, “PSV2028 sets clear strategic priorities: modernising payments infrastructure, strengthening regulatory and supervisory frameworks, accelerating the adoption of digital financial services, and fostering deeper collaboration across stakeholders.”

The document showed that the apex bank intends to deepen and scale existing initiatives, including contactless payments, open banking and the Central Bank Digital Currency.

The CBN’s Deputy Governor for Economic Policy, Dr Muhammad Abdullahi, said the vision would support the broader application of digital currencies and other innovative payment technologies within a robust regulatory framework.

He stated, “The PSV2028 seeks to deepen and scale these initiatives, while also assessing and adopting new technologies capable of expanding the reach, functionality and quality of financial services.”

The document acknowledged that despite recording millions of wallet registrations and transactions worth about N22bn, the eNaira had yet to achieve widespread use in everyday economic activities.

It noted that the digital currency suffers from limited merchant adoption, weak integration with banking and fintech applications, and the absence of live cross-border CBDC payment corridors.

To address these challenges, the CBN proposed repositioning the eNaira for government payments, remittances and trade settlements while opening application programming interfaces for fintech integration.

The document stated that the apex bank would also pursue bilateral CBDC corridor pilots with major trade and remittance partners to support cross-border transactions.

The CBN said, “Reposition eNaira for G2P, remittances, trade settlement; open APIs for Fintech integration; launch bilateral CBDC corridor pilots with priority trade/remittance partners.”

The bank also disclosed that Nigeria had already recorded millions of eNaira wallets and transactions valued at N22bn, although it admitted that usage remained low due to limited real-economy applications and weak merchant value propositions.

The latest proposal comes as central banks across the world continue to explore digital currencies as alternatives to cash and private digital assets. According to industry estimates, more than 130 countries are currently researching, piloting or developing central bank digital currencies.
Source: https://punchng.com/fg-may-pay-salaries-through-enaira-platform-report/

Accountant Steals $54m Unnoticed For 20+ Years

Rita Ann Crundwell (born 10 January 1953) was the comptroller and treasurer for the city of Dixon in Illinois, USA, between 1983 and 2012.

Over a period of 22 years, she stole a total of $53.7 million from the city – and no one noticed!

How did she do it?

She secretly opened an account in 1990 with the Fifth Third Bank named “Reserve Sewer Capital Development Account”.

She then transferred money into the account for 22 years, using forged documents and signatures to hide the theft from city officials and auditors.

Over that period, she did a total of 169 transfers averaging $2.5 million per year. It was the worst case of municipal embezzlement in US history.

What did she do with all that money?

Crundwell lived a lavish life which her $80,000 annual salary certainly could not fund.

Owned multiple farms, Recreational Vehicles (RVs), bespoke furniture, 400 horses, and in 2009, even bought a 45-foot luxury motor home worth $2.1 million.

How was she caught?

She was only caught because a substitute accountant covered her desk while she was away on vacation.

After the theft was discovered, the then-Mayor Jim Burke immediately called in the FBI. She was sacked and arrested in April 2012.

She eventually pleaded guilty to wire fraud and admitted engaging in money laundering as part of her plea deal.

Crundwell, 60 years old at the time, was sentenced on 14 February 2013 to 19 years and 7 months in a federal prison.

The city of Dixon managed to recover about $40 million of what Crundwell stole by auctioning off her assets and settling a lawsuit with the city’s auditors, who had missed her embezzlement for 22 years.
source

I just read a false information from Oshiomole from APC that Peter Obi didn't do anything about insecurity when he was governor of Anambra State.

I am sharing this info so every sane person can know that Oshiomole is lying.

GOVERNOR Peter Obi’s administration in Anambra State has adopted a new approach to the fight against kidnapping with the policy of sealing off any hotel or house where suspected kidnappers operate from.

Already, one hotel located at Nkpor near Onitsha and two houses at Nri in Anaocha local government area have been sealed by the governor.

Gov. Peter Obi sealing buildings used to keep kidnapped victims at Uruorji Village, Nri,

It all began when security operatives, after a long period of investigation, traced some people to the hotel and on interrogation, discovered that they were using the hotel as a base where they kept their victims while negotiating with members of the families. The police promptly arrested four suspected kidnappers there and went after its owner, who was traced to Enugu where he was also arrested. They are still helping the police in their investigations. The police gave the names of the four persons suspected to be kidnappers as Chinedu Eze, Obumneme Madugha, Okezue Chukwuemeka and John Okoro.

According to the police, the arrested persons made confessional statements that helped the police to rescue two kidnapped victims whose names were given as Mr. Augustine Emeka, operations manager of Zenith Bank at Nkpor and Sir Vincent Ohiagwu from Uga in Aguata local government area. Both men were kidnapped on July 29, 2012.

As news on the arrest filtered into Government House in Awka, Governor Obi led security operatives to the area where he announced the sealing up of the hotel and stressed, during the operation, that his government would continue to work round the clock to prevent the resurgence of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

Mansion under construction

Barely six days after the hotel was sealed, the governor again took off with his security aides and destination was Nri in Anaocha local government area. The first port of call was an expansive, but a lonely compound housing a bungalow and a one-storey mansion under construction. The only occupants of the house were a security guard, Mr. Banarbas Nasamu, from Adamawa State and his wife with their only child. Last year, security operatives had raided the compound during which suspected kidnappers and their victims were found.

Obi said the decision to visit the house was because there were reports that it was still serving as a base for kidnappers after last year’s incident and he promptly announced that the compound had been sealed. He again moved to another village in the community where another bungalow just being completed was fingered as another base for kidnappers and equally announced that it would also be sealed off.

According to the governor, the houses and the hotel suspected to be a hide out for suspected kidnappers in the state would be demolished and the land converted to government use if investigations proved that kidnappers were actually using them. The one-storey mansion, with a pent house under construction belonging to one Jude Asuzu said to be residing in Lagos and the bungalow belonging to Patrick Okoye, said to be working in Awka, had one thing in common as nobody was residing in them at the time of the visit.

He said he decided to personally lead security agencies to seal the hotel and the houses to drive the message home to all those engaged in, or aiding and abetting kidnapping, that Anambra was no longer a safe place for them. He also gave an indication that the exercise would continue until the state was rid of kidnappers.

The owners of the houses were not available during the visit, but a security guard at the one-storey mansion, Mr. Barnabas Nasamu, who lives in the large compound with his wife and a child, said his boss had not returned home for the past three months. The parents of the owner of the house were also said to be residing in Enugu and had not come home for a long time.

A neighbour, who is a retired Railway staff and an uncle of the owner of the building, Chief Christian Obidike, who came into the compound on noticing the presence of the governor and security operatives, confirmed that kidnap suspects were arrested last year in the compound by a joint police and military team, but said that no such incident had repeated. According to him, one of the kidnap suspects was identified as a trader occupying a shop close to the compound.

At the bungalow at Obeagu village, also in Nri, a cousin of the owner of the house and a native doctor, Mr. Sunday Okoye said a nephew of the owner of the house; one Mr. Okwudili Okoye had been on the run since security operatives visited the house on the suspicion that he was involved in kidnapping. He, however, said that the owner of the house which was under lock when the governor visited, resides in Awka and returns to the village once in a while.

Obi said security reports confirmed that the two buildings were linked to the heinous crime of kidnapping and announced that they would henceforth remain sealed in line with the policy of the state government on kidnapping, which provided that any building used for the purpose of kidnapping would be sealed off and, if the allegation was proved, the affected house would be demolished.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/08/gov-obi-goes-tough-on-kidnappers-in-anambra/

Ten Observations After Attending A World Cup Match In The US

With the World Cup getting into full swing, Al Jazeera offers some tips for fans looking to attend a game in the US.

Los Angeles, California – The United States of America, the land of Donald Trump, baseball, gun violence and endless highways, is now co-host to football’s biggest tournament.

The World Cup is off to a good start for the US, with its team beating Paraguay four to one in Los Angeles on Friday. The result was an electric, hometown celebration, despite the visible clusters of empty seats.

Before kickoff at SoFi Stadium, there were concerns about organisation and logistics, but Friday’s game went largely without incident.

The US, which is organising the tournament with Canada and Mexico, is set to host 78 of the 104 matches in this year’s World Cup.

Here are some observations and tips for fans after the first US-based game in Los Angeles:

Invest in transparent bags: Any bag bigger than a wallet will not be allowed into the stadium, unless it’s see-through. So if you’re attending a game in the US, keep your purse or backpack at home and buy a clear bag if you must have one.

Get ready for airport-style security: The process is pretty standard. Empty your pockets, put your see-through bag in the scanner and be ready for further inspection if the security gate beeps.

Food and drink prices are outrageous: $5.25 for a bottle of water… $5.75 for a small bag of crisps… As much as $21.50 for a beer. Expect to pay at least twice the normal price for food and beverages at the stadium

Get the ticket app: Gatekeepers at the stadium will not accept any alternative to the FIFA app, FWC2026, when it comes to validating tickets. You may be able to add the ticket from the app to your digital wallet before the game, but screenshots and printouts will not do, so make sure your phone is charged.

The traffic is real: Most parts of the US do not have reliable public transport, so driving is the default mode of transportation. Many US host cities are trying to facilitate fans’ arrival to the stadium without the need for a car. For example, Los Angeles has commissioned shuttle buses to bring fans to SoFi Stadium from transport hubs downtown. Still, there was suffocating traffic around the match on Friday. The gridlock remained for several hours after the game.

Plan to arrive early. Also, check local media outlets and the social media pages for the host cities’ municipal governments for the best way to get to the stadium, especially if you don’t want to get stuck in seemingly endless traffic.

Armies of staff and volunteers: Seeking to head off potential problems, US organisers have flooded the games with extra hands. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of workers and volunteers acting as stewards and assisting the crowd at the opening game in Los Angeles. Don’t be afraid to ask them for directions or help.

Law enforcement agents everywhere: In general, US police are seen as more militarised than those of their Western counterparts. At the World Cup, their presence has been exponentially amplified. There were heavily armed officers from numerous agencies everywhere around the stadium

Don’t be too alarmed if you see a 20-something-year-old with a huge automatic rifle and tactical gear at your next World Cup match. That’s just America

Don’t pet the police dogs: Speaking of policing, many agents walk around with their sniffer dogs, who may appear cute and harmless, but don’t try to pet them. The officers won’t like it.

Brace for commercial culture: Take the ongoing trend of the commercialisation of football, and add US capitalism to it. What you get is what’s happening at this World Cup: Everything is sponsored.

Corporations — from soda brands to banks and car manufacturers — have significant presence around the stadium with stations to promote and sell their products.

Don’t expect much around the stadium: Many football stadiums around the world are built in the hearts of their cities. They’re surrounded by restaurants, cultural sites and vibrant communities right outside their gates. That is not the case in the US.

With the abundance of land, dominance of driving culture and the sprawling nature of US cities, many stadiums are relatively far away from city centres and isolated from urban bustle. Depending on where your World Cup match is located, it may not be advisable to count on the stadium area to offer anything other than football
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/6/13/ten-observations-after-attending-a-world-cup-match-in-the-us

•…Initial plan was to abduct ex-minister’s mum

•…Suspect speaks on their links with governorship aspirants

Oloro asked me if Adebayo Adelabu still had a mother, and I said yes. He asked me again about where she was living and I told him — Suspect

Before his arrest by the operatives of the Force Intelligence Department-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) and other tactical teams in Oyo State Police Command, Segun Balogun a.k.a. Alawaye was known among other drivers at the Motor Park in Iwo Road Area of Ibadan, Oyo State where he used to convey passengers to their destinations. Unknown to many, he decided to choose another route to make money.

He applied his driving skill to conveying members of a kidnap gang he joined to their operations and taking the victims to the ‘safe house’ prepared for them. This he hid very well until the gang’s cup became full. Alawaye is among the suspects arrested for their alleged involvement in the kidnap of the former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu’s sister, Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke, and her twin sons.

Segun has confessed to how he took the gang leader, Adewale Abolarinwa a.k.a. Oloro to the house where Adelabu’s extended family members reside, in preparation for the kidnap carried out on June 3.

Segun and one of the men working with a politician (name withheld), revealed how he was approached by Oloro, for the kidnap of the woman and her twin children.

It will be recalled that the kidnap victims were rescued last Saturday from where they were held hostage at Lako Community on Ayegun-Olomi Road, Ibadan, by police operatives following the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

Also arrested were the gang leader, Adewale Abolarinwa a.k.a Oloro, and Dare Oyedele a k.a Solution. It was learnt that Solution was well known as an automobile electrical technician, especially at Orita Challenge area, up to Podo area and its environs in Ibadan. He was also said to have a business where he accommodated other automobile technicians’ workshops. Saturday Tribune discovered that many people who knew him very well are still finding it hard to believe that the same Solution was a kidnap gang member.

According to police sources, the plan to kidnap the twins started on May 5. They mounted surveillance on the compound where the twins live and on the conveyance of the children, to and from school. It was learnt that Solution took up the job of officer in charge of surveillance for the kidnap gang, trailing the targeted twins. Communications between Oloro and Solution, which were intercepted by the IRT operatives, indicated the kidnap gang’s preparedness towards the kidnap operation.

Unknown to the targeted family, Solution knew the school being attended by the twins, he knew the process of opening the gates whenever the car approached the residence of the victims. He knew the make of the vehicle with its tinted side glasses. He observed the smartness of the driver. He knew when the grandmother (ex-minister’s mother) was in the compound.

In one of the intercepted messages, Solution was heard describing the school being attended by the children as posh, equipped with air conditioners and very expensive. Also, Solution, in a chat with Oloro, spoke on how he followed the driver back home to understudy the situation in the environment where the targets were residing, to which Oloro responded that Solution should not allow their plans to drag before they would strike.

Further information gathered about Solution revealed that he owned two buildings within the Ayegun Community and was the one who helped to get the caretaker from whom the gang rented the house turned into a kidnappers’ den. It was also discovered that his younger brother was living in the same area but had fled since the lid of the gang’s atrocities was blown open. During a search, a pump action gun was reported to have been found in Solution’s house, totalling three guns recovered from the gang.

Before the rescue of the victims and arrest of the suspects, information had it that the repeated kidnappings within Ibadan had raised suspicion about Oloro’s likely involvement, prompting a kickstart of intelligence-led gathering of information about him, especially when he allegedly jumped bail after his release from prison for a previous kidnap offence.

Since Alawaye was known to be Oloro’s friend, operatives of the Monitoring Unit, reportedly met and asked him of Oloro’s whereabouts, to which he responded that he had been calling him but had not been able to reach him. However, the operatives’ eagle eyes saw that he was making attempts to delete some information from his phone, which made them snatch it from him to have a look at what he was trying to do. To their surprise, they reportedly stumbled on a message involving the purchase of a gun by Oloro who told Alawaye that the gun seller had refused to give him the weapon after taking his money.

With that, the operatives detained the suspect for investigation, unknown to them that he was part of the kidnapping that occurred a day before he was picked. His involvement was revealed two days after.

Oloro asked me if Adebayo Adelabu still had a mother, and I said yes. He asked me again about where she was living and I told him — Suspect
In an interview with Saturday Tribune inside the cell, Segun, aged 47 and an Ibadan indigene, opened up on his membership of the kidnap gang: “I’m a driver who transports passengers from Iwo Road Motor Park at World Oil axis. I didn’t start the operation with the gang from the onset. I have known Oloro for more than 10 years in our transport union. At a point, he committed some crimes and was arrested and remanded. Later, we heard that he was in Lagos.

“Along the line, he returned to Ibadan. One day, I saw him at Iwo Road Motor Park. It was in 2025. He gave me his phone number and some money. We used to chat.

“On a particular day, the transport union chairman and I were discussing Oloro, wondering what he was doing as a job. Before then, a police officer who had been looking for Oloro had told us that he jumped bail. We called him, and he came to us. We discussed his atrocities with him, and he promised not to do such again. He even placed a curse on himself if he ever committed a crime again.

“Oloro started frequenting the motor park. Then, we started discussing about upcoming elections and campaigns. In 2019, Oloro and I worked for (name withheld). When he did not win (the governorship), I left the motor park.

Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola (second left) and other senior police officers while briefing journalists on Sunday.
Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola (second left) and other senior police officers while briefing journalists on Sunday.
“This time (2026/27), we decided to work for (the 2019 candidate who did not win), and we used to call one another. However, at a time, he (Oloro) was not responding to my calls frequently as he said he was busy in Lagos. On his return to Ibadan, he stopped coming to the political group’s outings.

“Recently, Oloro moved to the camp (of the man who won the primary, name withheld), but I told them I would stay with (the old governorship aspirant, name withheld). However, that didn’t stop us from interacting. One day, in May, while we sat together, Oloro asked me if (Adebayo) Adelabu still had a mother, and I said yes. He asked me again about where she was living and I told him. He said I should take him to the place. One day we went to Liberty Stadium for (an aspirant’s) declaration. From there, we proceeded to Adelabu’s mother’s house.

“After showing him the house, he opened up to me that he was planning to kidnap the mother or a child from the Adelabu family. The reason he gave was that he was broke. He asked me to join him also, pointing out that I was also broke and just driving without making much money. He promised to pay me well and I agreed to join him. My role was to drive the vehicle used for the kidnap operation.

“On Tuesday, June 2, he called and told me that the operation would be carried out the following day. He described the spot where I would join him along expressway at Soka area. After we met on Wednesday, we left for Podo area where Solution was domiciled. From Podo, we left for Challenge. We were four in the operational vehicle — Oloro, Solution, Kelechi and me. I was the driver while three others were masked. We parked the car for about 20 minutes, waiting for the car conveying the children to school to pass by. Oloro had thought that a driver would be the one with the children. The twins were his target to collect ransom.

“As Oloro saw the targeted car, he asked me to follow it, then directed me to swerve and block it at the front. He and two others got down and bundled the mother and the children into our operational car. I drove the car to Ayegun, got down and left others. My heart was pumping hard. Inwardly, I was so afraid. Since that day till now, I have been unable to eat. I have been drinking water only.”

How I was arrested

“On Thursday, I was called by a police officer and a member of our transport union. I was told to enter the police vehicle. There, I was told that they were searching for Oloro. My heart flustered, but I also knew he had other issues, so I suggested we call him. We did, but he didn’t pick the calls. Later, he sent me a voice note, and the police took the phone from me. They heard other voice notes in which Oloro complained to me about the person he wanted to buy a gun from but who took the money without giving him the gun. That was how the police officers said I knew about gun purchase by Oloro. I was arrested, after which the police got to know about my involvement in the kidnapping on Saturday when Oloro was captured.”

During the operation, three of us, Oloro, Kelechi and I, used masks —Solution

The second suspect, Solution, also told his own story: “I’m aged 43. I’m from Ishara Remo in Ogun State, but Ibadan-based. I’m a member of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC). I trained in rewiring. I have a business named Solution Land Automobile Service. I got to know Oloro about a year ago. Oloro was initially a member of OPC but was expelled after the kidnap case he had back then. I heard about him from OPC members. He later went to Lagos but used to come to Ibadan. I didn’t know how he got my number. He called me and started interacting with me. He was a cab driver in Lagos, and whenever he needed money, he would call me and I would send him some amount.

“He came to Ibadan one day and asked me to meet him at Toll Gate at Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. He told me that he wanted to move around the city, asking if I could get him a vehicle for about a week. I told him I couldn’t because that day was the first time I was seeing him face-to-face and the car with me was not mine. I was repairing a vehicle’s gear that would need running for a week. However, I said I could go with him to wherever he wanted to go. That was last year.

“He was using his Corolla car for the operation. He bought it at Gbagi area about seven months ago. He informed me about joining his kidnap gang about six months ago, but what he asked me to do was to follow him in my own car. For example, if he was going to Iwo Road, he would ask me to wait at Oremeji area. After a while, he would ask me to make a U-turn. Sometimes, he would just call and tell me to join him at (a popular joint at Podo) or Mokola or another place. Whenever we returned from those places, I would be wondering on the reason for the patrol.

“I knew two people with him then. One of them was TJ who used to come to Ibadan from Lagos. Another one is a commercial motorcyclist at Apata area of Ibadan. I believe he introduced the operation to me when those ones were no longer with him. He said he wanted to use my car, but when he saw it, he told me it was too small. He brought one Toyota Corolla belonging to Kelechi to my house at Podo area on Tuesday, June 2. There were two pump action guns in it.

“On Wednesday morning, Oloro came to my place in his own Toyota Corolla car. The key of the car brought to me the previous day was handed over to Alawaye.

“During the operation, three of us – Oloro, Kelechi and I – used masks. Alawaye did not use a mask because he sat in the car. Oloro gave me an axe to hold. He and Kelechi held the two pump action guns. Oloro was the one who broke the side glass of the car conveying our victims. He opened the door and told me to pick one of the children who sat in the front. Kelechi picked the second child. Oloro was the one who bundled the mother into the car.

“The person who was preparing food for the captives was Oloro’s relative. He didn’t follow us for the operation, but it was as if he was always invited to handle feeding of the victims. Whenever Oloro needed money, he would ask me to lend him. I didn’t know how much was demanded as ransom because it was Oloro and Kelechi that used to go and collect it wherever they told the family of the victims to drop it.

“Before the last operation which I joined, he once gave me N300,000 for following him with my car. He gave me N200,000 at another time.”

How I was arrested

“On Thursday, the day after the operation, I called Oloro, but he didn’t pick my calls. On Friday, it was the same thing. I was disturbed by that but shrugged my shoulders and continued with my life. I was at home on Saturday but later went to Top One to relax. While there, I messaged him, asking for the reason he was not picking my calls, but he didn’t respond immediately. Later he asked me where I was and I told him. He said he would come to join me. That was when police arrived to arrest me. By then, Oloro had not told me the amount I would get as my share of the ransom when paid.

“I don’t know how I got into such a crime. I have a lucrative business. If God can save me from this, I will never venture near crime again.”

Getting Oloro for an interview was a difficult task. He has refused to talk since Sunday when the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola, briefed journalists on how the victims were rescued and suspects arrested, with two of them neutralised. It was learnt that not only has Oloro refused to talk, he also shunned food and water, and was soiling himself with urine and faeces in the cell he was kept in. On Tuesday, Saturday Tribune learnt that he was taken to hospital because of his condition but he refused to respond to doctor’s questions to know the treatment he needed.

Oloro was said to possess many charms recovered from him. The FID-IRT operatives said the charms he possessed were so many that some were even found in his car.

Past kidnap operations

Among the arrested suspects, Oloro had been known to be deep in criminal activities. On September 20, 2022, he was paraded by the Oyo State Police Command after his arrest along with his kidnap gang leader, BJ by the Monitoring Unit. At that time, the duo, with other suspects carried out several kidnappings within Ibadan and Ogun State. In his confession during an interview in a story published in Saturday Tribune on September 24, 2022, Oloro confessed that before he was caught for kidnapping, he had once been arrested for snatching cars at gunpoint which resulted in his being remanded in prison. But, according to him, he secured freedom when he enjoyed what he called “prerogative of mercy” which he claimed was bestowed on him by the judiciary.

After his arraignment for the kidnap, Oloro, who claimed to be a Muslim and Ogun worshipper, and another suspect, Aleshe, were remanded in prison as the matter was being heard in court. However, it was learnt that Aleshe was released on bail on April 26, 2024, because of a contagious disease he had, while it is yet unclear the reason Oloro secured a bail also.

However, Aleshe allegedly returned to kidnapping less than a month after he was granted bail, as he carried out an operation on May 16, 2024. Aleshe continued until he was arrested by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Ogun State. A credible source confirmed to Saturday Tribune that Aleshe is still in prison in Abeokuta.
https://tribuneonlineng.com/exclusive-kidnap-suspects-open-up-how-we-planned-adelabus-sister-twins-kidnap/

In the now-viral clip, the Super Eagles striker was seen interacting with people around him and reportedly sharing money before making a statement in Pidgin English that quickly caught public attention.

The phrase, “I no fit give police money,” immediately sparked mixed reactions across various social media platforms. While some viewers interpreted the comment as a light-hearted joke made in a casual setting, others argued that public figures should be mindful of statements that could be taken out of context.

Many observers have pointed out that the clip lacks full context, making it difficult to determine the exact meaning behind Boniface's words.

Thai police have arrested two Nigerian men and a Thai woman after uncovering an alleged romance scam drug network that used fake online profiles to lure Thai women into transporting narcotics, according to reports today, June 14.

The arrests were carried out by the Crime Suppression Division, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division, Nong Khai Immigration police, and related teams.

The accused were identified as 39 year old Nigerian national Emeka, 45 year old Nigerian national Anayo, and a 23 year old Thai woman identified only as Li.

Police arrested Emeka at a toll checkpoint on Motorway Route 9 in Samut Prakan. Anayo was arrested in the Ramkhamhaeng area of Bangkok, while Li was arrested at a hotel in the same area.

Police said the arrests followed an expanded investigation into a transnational drug trafficking network. Officers found that the group allegedly used fake profiles on dating applications and social media platforms, including Facebook.

According to police, the profiles used images of foreign men who appeared wealthy and credible. The accounts claimed to be businessmen, engineers, or soldiers before forming romantic relationships with Thai women.

Once trust was built, the communication would allegedly move to WhatsApp to avoid detection and monitoring by officers.

Investigators found that Li had been in contact with a Nigerian man using the name “Mc General” after meeting him on Facebook in mid-2025.

Police said the man persuaded her to travel to a neighbouring country to collect items and bring them into Thailand. She was allegedly paid about 40,000 to 50,000 baht each time.

Li reportedly admitted that she had smuggled drugs from a neighbouring country into Thailand three times. Police said she was arrested during the latest delivery.

The smuggling route reportedly involved crossing the border through natural channels in Nong Khai province. The accused allegedly travelled by long-tail boat to the neighbouring country before network members took her to a hotel.

The drugs were then placed inside luggage and disguised in different forms, including parcel boxes, coffee bags, and snack bags.

Police said the return trip to Thailand involved several vehicle changes, including cars, vans, and boats, to avoid inspection before the drugs were brought into Bangkok.

Investigators later learned that Li had returned to Thailand with luggage allegedly containing narcotics and checked into a hotel in the Ramkhamhaeng area.

Police said she was then instructed by a Nigerian man to deliver items from the luggage in separate batches to foreign members of the network.

Officers monitored the deliveries. After tracking the first handover, they found that another delivery had been arranged outside Li’s hotel in Ramkhamhaeng.

Police moved in when the second Nigerian man received the items and allegedly tried to leave. The investigation then led to the arrests of all three accused.

Officers later expanded the search and seized a large quantity of heroin and cocaine with a combined value of more than 25 million baht.

Li reportedly confessed that she had brought cocaine and heroin from a neighbouring country to deliver to Nigerian nationals. She said she had done so three times, and that the latest trip led to her arrest.

FM91 reported that police said Emeka denied the charges, while Anayo confessed that he owned the cocaine delivered by Li and was preparing to distribute the drugs in community areas.
https://thethaiger.com/news/national/nigerian-men-thai-woman-romance-scam-drug-network
