Nairaland / General / Re: Nigerians Knock Sterling Bank For Comparing Jesus Resurrection With Agege Bread by Gentlerespect76: 7:33pm On Apr 17, 2022
amzee:
But the bank’s Easter message was
deemed distasteful and it generated
outrage and outright condemnation.
Many Nigerians on social media called out
the bank, labelling the message as
‘insensitive’, ‘distasteful’,
‘mockery’, and demanding an
immediate apology from Sterling Bank.

One of the many Nigerians @olajacs
tweeted, “Dear Sterling Bank, it is not
funny comparing the resurrection of our
Lord Jesus Christ, the basis for our faith
as Christians to Agege bread. That’s so
insensitive”.

Another, angry Nigerian Duchess Adedoyin
said, “This is such a distasteful mail to
receive from Sterling Bank on Easter
Sunday.

“That is a mail that the Bank needs to
quickly recall and apologize to everyone
that received it. Comparing the
resurrection of Jesus to Agege bread…”.

Also, @AbubeGary expressed disapproval
at the Sterling Bank’s message, “What
a humiliating way to insult our Lord Jesus
Christ. An institution like Sterling bank?
Pity”

Sodji Adeleke Abraham in his angry tweets
called on the Christian associations to take
up the matter with the bank. “Christian
Association of Nigeria, PFN, and other
Christians should take this up. Coming
from a bank that practices Islamic banking
is totally unacceptable.
“We demand an apology for this
mockery.”

Sterling Bank was also getting bashed on
Facebook, ” This is the most offensive
post and senseless. I got this as an Easter
greeting from this bank. Sterling bank you
are going down except you respect what
should be respected and fear what should
be feared…,” said Gold Anuli on her
page.

Joshua Falade in a lengthy post also
condemned the message from the bank.

Part of the post read, “Like Agege Bread,
He Rose: What a Disparage Comparison of
Christ’s Resurrection By Sterling Bank!
“The peak of aberration, dumbness, and
disparage is Sterling Bank’s cheers about
Christ’s resurrection this morning- LIKE
AGEGE BREAD, HE ROSE!
“I am disturbed at the depth of ineptitude,
shoddiness, and insensitivity of a brand
that counts on the patronage of the public,
among whom are Christians to keep afloat
to make such a grave and dangerous
comparison.
“While it is needless to fight on behalf of
our own God as Christians and His Son
who died for the ransom of the entirety of
human race(God can defend Himself),
Sterling Bank and motleys of individuals
who have reduced Christ’s resurrection to
a rise of a dough of bread often raised
with yeast and bromide (a substance that
is dangerous for consumption)need be
reminded that they erred grossly in their
comparison. Christ’s resurrection differs
greatly from the rising of Agege bread.
“We await SB to atone for her error by
withdrawing that wishes with an immediate
effect. Making a public apology may be
necessary to salvage the damages she has
done already to her brand. Other corporate
brands may need to learn to avoid stoking
an ember of crisis in a country already
polarized by religion to avoid making light
of some religious tenets that the adherents
hold in high esteem.
“Of course, if these wishes were made
innocently to some other religions, by now,
SB and whosoever make that mistake
would be counting their losses. This will be
too grave and must be avoided!”
Another Nigerian Tanko Lami also
expressed vexation on her page, “Sterling
Bank Easter copy said “Like Agege, He
rose”
“Whether copy, creative or technical
writing, this is an ugly sense of humour
laced badly with disrespect to their
customer’s faith.
“This is a Bank! A Bank! An industry that
is supposed to welcome everyone.
Everyone including an slowpoke is your
customer as long as he can afford to open
an account… But you choose to personify
Christ to Agege bread.
“Nawaoh if you see the humor, please let
me know.”
Many also said that this is a mail that the
bank needs to quickly recall and apologise
to everyone that received it.
All stupid lies; each glorious season headslammers will lash out at Christianity in this uncharitable manner. But thanks to God, the gates of hell cannot prevail against the Church of the Living God.

Society has always made the "reactor" the criminal.

When a child pushes another, society doesn't always seem to see it. The minute the other child reacts, then society descends on him for reacting.

Things won't change until the root cause is addressed. You cannot keep seeing the one who has said enough is enough as the enemy. The Igbo people deserved to be heard and their issues bordering on total neglect in the Nigerian scheme of things need to be addressed. I mea Nigeria isn't a country for just the North and West. If not, please let them be an independent nation. They have tried. Since 1966, nothing.

If not, there won't cease to be violence Cox there are people that will still feel cheated if their issues aren't addressed.

You are a man bro. Thanks for speaking out like a few other Yoruba. God bless you.

Politics / Re: Council Of State Pardon: Buhari Should Pardon Every Thief - Femi Falana by Gentlerespect76: 5:50pm On Apr 15, 2022
Bobloco:

Human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, on Friday, stated that the Muhammadu Buhari led administration should free all prisoners who have been jailed for stealing

He said this while speaking as the guest lecturer at an event organised to celebrate one year remembrance of late Yinka Odumakin and launching of Yinka Odumakin Foundation, held at Sheraton Lagos Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos state.

Odumakin died on April 15, 2021, of COVID-19 complications in Lagos. He was the national publicity secretary of Afenifere, a Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization.

Sponsors of terrorism should be tried now – Femi Falana
The Council of State had on Thursday granted a state pardon to former governor of Taraba State, Rev Jollly Nyame who was jailed for corruption after the expiration of his tenure between 1999 and 2007.

Falana insisted that in the 1999 constitution that there is equality for all citizens adding that the state pardon has to be extended to all prisons who are serving jail terms for stealing.

On restructuring of the country, Falana said that the 1999 constitution should be referred to as decree 24 on 1999 as “it was not duly signed.”

He said: “What the National Assembly has continued to do is to amend illegality.

“The so called 1999 constitution is really decree 24 of 1999. When you see the so called constitution, you will not the signature of the man who signed the law, thats the fraud.

“When you see a law, the name of the person who signed it should be there with the date.

“Decree 24 of 1999 was promulgated by General Abdulsalam Abubakar on the 5th of May 1999 but today you will not see his name on it. Its a fraudulent document.

“The decree was imposed on us the last set of military dictators in Nigeria headed by Gen. Abubakar and because that document is okay for members of the ruling class regardless of their political parties, ethic regional or religious inclination, they are all comfortable with the document so they can’t do anything about it including all those we are campaigning today to be President.

“It is to retain the status quo and perhaps adjust it here and there, that is the only thing they are saying, so those who are contesting particularly on the platform of the ruling party are saying we are going to continue the programme of the Buhari administration that has put our country in problem.

“Nigeria have become a huge joke in the committee of nations and so for any set of people to say they want to package his rickety vehicle and begin to panelbeat it, its not going to move.

“When they are talking of continuity, it can only be continuity of disaster, injustice and corruption.

“They are pardoning themselves now, the same man who said he came to fight corruption now grants pardon to a man who has stolen billions of Naira.

“My reaction is that all criminals, all thieves and criminals in our prisons should be released.

“Under section 17 of their constitution, it says there shall be equal right to all citizens and section 42 said there shall be no discrimination on the basis of class, gender, whatever, so you can not take out two people and leave the rest there.

“If the government doesn’t release others, I am going to suggest to lawyers whose clients are likely to be left in prison to go to court and challenge the discriminatory treatment melted out to their own clients.

“If you want to pardon your friends, you must also extend the presidential pardon to all thieves because if the big thieves are being asked to walk away, we must also extend it to others.

“If we are changing decrees to actions, the National Assembly have not shown any readiness to review the constitution with a view to restoring the Federal status of the country.”

He urged state government to set up lawyers to challenge the Federal Government over issues that affects the effective running of its activities which the Federal Government had taken over

This country is a laughing stock already. All these slips should tell anyone who can reason that it's either the person in Aso Rock is not Muhammadu Buhari or it's a badly damaged version of the original Buhari. Truth is bitter.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Only 58 Of The 510 People On The Cruiser "Moskva" Survived, Says Ilya Ponomarev by Gentlerespect76: 1:58pm On Apr 15, 2022
Igbofam:
April 15, 2022 at 2:21 pm

Only 58 sailors were rescued by the 510-member crew of the sunken flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet - the cruiser "Moskva". This was stated by Russian politician Ilya Ponomarev. The former member of the Russian Duma, who has lived in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv since 2016, is the only one to vote against the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

There is no official information about the rescued and dead from either Russia or Ukraine.

The cruiser was badly damaged in an explosion and fire yesterday, and while being towed back to port, it sank, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced last night. Versions of what happened to Russia and Ukraine differ. Kyiv says it hit the cruiser with Neptune missiles, and Moscow says a fire detonated ammunition.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, "Moscow" is the ship whose crew the Ukrainian border guards defending Snake Island wished: " Russian warship, go f*ck yourself! " "wink.

Ponomarev also claims to have received "interesting (and still unproven) information", namely that the sinking of the cruiser Moscow has "drowned" the career of the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. He cites information that Vice Admiral Igor Ostipov has been arrested.

In another Facebook post, he claims that Russia's losses have already reached 20,000, not including those killed in the sinking of Moscow.

Education / Re: I Feel Like I Wasted My Time On Education by Gentlerespect76: 10:40am On Apr 14, 2022
shogsman:
I'm in my early 30s, I've got a bsc in sociology, a master's degree in statistics and like a dozen other professional degrees in human resource management, gerentology, demography, financial risk management, oil and gas services, pmp and so on.

Infact I'm basically one of the most educated individuals I've met. The sad part is I've never made a cent off my educational qualifications.
Heck I work in a totally different industry and make a good living which I'm definitely not going to trade for social work or psychology, so this past few days I get myself thinking what a waste of Time and resources that was, I literarily spent millions on my education, even relocating abroad to study but it was all a goddamn waste of time, all I got is a useless paper I'm never going to use.

My advice to young ones out there is to set your goals right and stupid untraditional ideas is better than no ideas. You don't necessarily have to pursue a degree to be okay in life.

I am not intending to antagonize you in any sense. But i have a knack for sharing my thoughts on any issue. As it were, I can tell the reason why you've never been employed based on the certificates you acquired. Reason: You had a degree in Sociology, then a Master's in Statistics. In Education, it's a misnomer. No one will employ you for having this two exact certificates. Perhaps someone would for Sociology, but not for a combination of Sociology degree and Master's in Statistics. With this twin degrees where had you hoped to work?

Your sure bet was to seek employment based on your first degree. Desirous of further skills then on the job you push for those ones related to your professional development. By doing that your certificates could enhance your professional development.

The most unfortunate thing I have observed through the years is that many people are not guided on the career prospects of courses. Someone in the UK would be okay with those qualifications, but not someone in Nigeria (I may be wrong to assume you are in Nigeria, however). But if you had done a Master's in Sociology or in any related field such as Criminology, Strategic Studies, Social Works etc, you career path would have shone brightly.
Final word: Those certificates can't be useless; they are a proof of your education and your education is what has guaranteed you any success that today you can boast of achieving.
