n9jaboy: @ all, please i am about to install a 1.8m for nilesat here in abuja, is it possible to get CNN C-band(Nss7) on same dish? Which other FTA birds can i add on same dish? Thanks

@n9jaboy,

Yes. It depends on whether you want to motorize the dish or not. If it will be motorised, all you need is
to add a C band lnb on top of your KU lnb and you'll be able to get CNN and other channels on C band satellites.

Check the previous page to see pictures of a 3-in-1 set up.

However, if the dish is to be a fixed one, you'll need a different type of lnb arrangement. This is mostly common
in the north close to where you live. The LNBs are arranged along the lenght of one of the dish tripods following
the arc. I have seen pictures where peeps use this arrangement to recieve up to seven different satellites
in a fixed position. Unfortunately I don't have a ready picture to upload for you right away.

Yomkris:

@ayolacz , thank u 4ur response..
Pls i stil need more sugestion 4rm u gurus. Thanks

Hello Yomkris,
I think what you need is a signal booster. An AV to RF modulator is used mostly for decoders without RF
output and even though it performs better for long range video transmission, it cannot take the place of
a standard signal booster.

What you do, go to any satellite equipment shop (even DSTV shops) and ask them for a signal booster.
Connect the RF output of the decoder in the sitting room to the input of the signal booster. Then connect
the input cable of each of the TVs in the rooms to the output of the signal booster. Turn on the booster
and you'll be fine. Remember to assign different UHF channels to each decoder before
connecting them to the booster.

Adex70: @George d i got the lnbs as i said idid not see original supermax so i buy str k5 and another one supersat heavy and costly than k5 difference of 500 naira. but after fixing it the k5did not green the supersat gave me !70% on aljazeera 68e with teflon inside but all the rest sat no green pls exlain

@Adex,
I'm not familiar with that supersat lnb but I guess it must be good. However, 68E/C or Intelsat 20/C is a
linear polarised satellite and as such you should track it without a di-electric plate (teflon) inside
the lnb throat. If you're getting it with dielectric then its either what you're recieving is not that
satellite or the supersat lnb is configured differently.

I will advise that you try again using the STRONG K5 (without any dielectric) this time and see how it goes.
Adjust the lnb to the position shown in my picture on the previous page (10 O'clock position) and finetune
from there. Also remember your dish focal lenght (very important). You should be able to hit not less than
79 to 80% on Aljazeera in clear weather.

IRAPADA: pls did u receive any nilesat tp on ur ku lnb and also did u cover both c bands lnb with d plastic cover?

@IRAPADA,
Yes, I got the NWA beam on AB7 having Aljazeera and other channels (10992v, 27500sr). I just didn't want to
emphasise on it since my main focus was on C BAND satellites.

And yes, I covered both STRONG C band lnbs with their blue plastic cover. This is very important because from
experience if you don't cover the throat of the lnbs, eventually spiders and other insects will begin to
build nests inside them which will then lead to drop in signal quality. If you're not the patient type, you may
begin to think something is wrong with your dish alignment and you may begin to make very costly adjustments to
your dish only to find out later that there was nothing at all wrong with your dish but just spiders inside your
lnb throat that have caused you so much inconvienience!

@Adex,

See below pix. The STRONG K5 LNB that did the trick.

Remember to remove the blue plastic cover to check inside the throat.

The number is always engraved on the far wall inside.

You may even be lucky to get a K6 instead of K5 like myself!

@Adex,

Below pix - the SUPERMAX C band lnb that failed to impress.

I tested two (One old and one new) and they both gave the same poor performance.

Don't bother wasting your money on them. Better go for STRONG K5 or K6.

I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong with their famous high quality C Band LNBs.

Perhaps STRONG TECHNOLOGIES have overtaken them in standard?

Satellite TV Technology / Re: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by GeorgeD1(m): 6:27pm On Mar 10, 2013
@Adex,
Notice now that the SUPERMAX Extended C Band LNB formerly at the top has now been
replaced with STRONG C Band LNB. So, I now have both STRONG C Band LNBs for linear
and circular polarised satellites.

ile naira,
bode john and pdozie are correct. all those itemised issues with public power will be
solved simply by getting a voltage stabilizer. and if you're planning on deploying a single
stabilizer to supply the whole house then it is best to get a minimum 10kva type.

i am presently using the prag 10kva servo type that pdozie mentioned although the price is now
50k and no longer 45k that it was when he bought his.

I'm in Warri. If you're in PH then you're lucky because you're within the south - south, so these frequencies should do the job for you. Reach me on my yahoo mail and lets discuss further. Cheers!

So then, who says C BAND satelite is a forgotten issue? Well, the evidence is dancing right in front of your eyes!

Why not dust up that long abandoned dish of yours and put it into good use?

Get all those free HD channels which stingy PAYTV coys won't give you despite all their exorbitant

charges.

Be free! Break the myth! Viva FTA!!!

For those who would like to have a print out of those transponders earlier posted, I have attached an excel
sheet here which you can download. However note that these tps are only good for the present.
Satelite technology changes so fast that in just a day, a week, a month once active transponders may become
very dead. Tps once relied on for tracking could be an installer's achilles heel if all he does is to store
them in his archive without bordering to check and update. Also, bear in mind that these frequencies are particular
to the south - south and if your not living within this region, use with caution.

Depending on whether you're using a 3-in-1 set up like mine, your signal quality may vary along with dish
size.

@Microgiant,
@Perfect Nerd,
@Loluc90,
@All,

Its taken quite a while but finally this is what you've all been waiting for.

Below are tracking details for my revived 3-in-1 COMSTAR dish. Time has not been my friend and as at
Wednesday evening I was still busy with LNB changes, tweaking, adjustsments, etc (on the dish) just to
bring out the best possible signal quality. In all I should say my effort was worth it as I now have
a better result compared to when I started a couple of weeks back.

I had to change the SUPERMAX LNB with STRONG C BAND when I discovered loss of signal quality on 906/C
and NSS7/C and that was a new discovery for me (as we have always assumed Supermax c band lnbs to be
better in performance on circular polarised sats compared to strong lnbs).

NOTE: For circular polarised satelites it is now better to use STRONG C BAND LNB for tracking as
opposed to Supermax C band
. After several adjustments, where I was getting 48 - 50% signal quality
on supermax,immediately I changed to strong K5 lnb, signal quality jumped to almost 60% for EATV (906/C).
You can imagine the surprise on my face! smiley

Adex70 - this goes to you: Forget SUPERMAX C band for now and go for STRONG K5 or K6 for your motorised
set up. You will not regret it.

Ok, now to the details:
