i'm a part-time farmer and i'm making good returns from my plantain farm.

i've been able to make good returns cos i don't sell to whole sale buyers, i sell to staffs of the company i work with and some churches.

to me, its d best way i can make good money from plantain farming business.

i sell for as much as 1,500 per bunch and as less as 700 naira per bunch depending on sizes of plantain bunches.

if anyone will make good money (MILLIONS) within year or two from plantain farming business just the same way we've been reading on NAIRALAND threads,
its very possible but it also means you such a farmer or investor must start big; meaning he/she will start with a minimum of plantain plantations of 6 - 8 acres growing up 7,000 plantain suckers and expecting 6,000 good bunches of plantain @harvest.
This is @ worst case scenario with proper management.
With these illustration, then i can see a farmer counting millions by end of d season.

thereby selling at open market supply cost of 5,000 naira - 6,000 naira per dozen will not become a loss.

After making several market survey within IBADAN, i got to the largest market selling plantain and other fruits called " OJE MARKET " and discovered the prices of plantain in larger quantities. they buy and sell in dozens and the best price is 6,000naira per dozen.
i didnt believe in one person enquiry result and checked other dealers of plantain in the market but there was no difference in price offer.
i went with 2 dozens of gd bunches to make a trial and make proper contacts with the dealers but i had to sell just one dozen and had to leave the market with a bit state of disappointment.

Agriculture / Re: 10 Man Agric Business Group In 2015.......>>>>>ibadan Axis Only......<<<<< by GGfadar(m): 7:56pm On Jan 14, 2015
sorry for the suspense
i wouldnt want to lure anyone into the group business with my earlier posts and i wanted to be very sure of affirmative results on market survey on plantain.
i've read many threadson nairaland { AGRIC SECTION } about plantain farming business , most information on the business isnt real at all.

for instance, its commonly seen on nairaland agric section that one can grow plantain and make millions, yes its true but something still wonders me about it.
i've never seen proves from anyone on nairaland that he\she has made a million from this as always said on nairaland.
most farmers on nairaland wants to make money by selling their farm produce and leave u with whatever comes after luring u in the business.
they tell u all the truth on how to start and manage the plantain farm and leave u with the most important point, MARKETING your farm produce and how much u can make from it.

they all aim to sell SUCKERS at ridiculous prices to beginners.

Truly, i'm a plantain farmer and its truly lucrative to me just because i'm running a small scale plantain farm of about 1,200 tress.
its lucrative to me cos i sell my produce just like every retail plantain seller.

out of my 1,200 plantain trees, i usually harvest a minimum of 40 bunches at once and sell at prices ranging from 800naira -- 1,500 depending on sizes.

NOTE : There is no way you can harvest all the plantain at once and make the millions people promise on this forum,
The harvest is done gradually weeks after weeks till one harvests the whole plantation.

at the start of mine, i believed i cant always sell out a bunch of plantain for 1,000naira, i intend expanding in order to increse the income and decided to call people to join me in the expansion.

my analysis was like --
if i can harvest 40 bunches at once out of 1,000 tress
possibly i can harvest 400 bunches out of 10,00 tress, thinking it will surely go for the same price i used to sell but after making several market survey within IBADAN, i got to the largest market selling plantain and other fruits called " OJE MARKET " and discovered the prices of plantain in larger quantities. they buy and sell in dozens and the best price is 6,000naira per dozen.
i didnt believe in one person enquiry result and checked other dealers of plantain in the market but there was no difference in price offer.
i went with 2 dozens of gd bunches to make a trial and make proper contacts with the dealers but i had to sell just one dozen and had to leave the market with a bit state of disappointment.

since then i've been working on my proposal just to make ammendments and make interested people understand all it takes before starting.
this is the main reason i've not been replying mails or whatsapp messages.
i cant promise what i cannot deliver.
everyone will expect a bunch of plantain to sell for 1,000naira and at the harvest period, the story will change.

I'm not selling any item to anyone on this forum and i cant lure anyone into the business group but if anyone is satisfied with the results of the end point { INTEREST\PROFIT } at harvest period as illustrated above, then i will start responding to everyone interested in the plantain farming business.

IF ANYONE HAS BEEN SO MAD AT ME FOR NOT RESPONDING ON WHATSAPP AND E.MAILS, PLS KINDLY FORGIVE ME FOR MY ACTIONS, WAS JUST TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND I BELIEVE ITS FOR OUR GOOD.

I dont want to raise anyones hope on investing his\her hard earned money on a business not well understood before venturing in it and the whole blame later falls on me.
..........................................................................................................................................................................................

ALL information concerning livestock is 100% intact and genuine.
i will start responding to interested investors from now on and also make arrangements on HOW, WHERE AND WHEN WE CAN MEET.

Thanks for your understanding.......

am not in for argument.
truly it depends on ur location, no doubt
As far as i understand, you are talking as a consumer and not a producer or marketer, so no problem.
if it works like that for you, no problem
i really enjoy ur thread since i started following it and i've confirmed a lot of posibilities in ur thread, i,ve been to KANO too but later discovered a NIGER REPUBLIC BORDER @ JIGAWA which i prefer due to reasonable price of animals and due to security issues.
i might not prove with pictures now cos i lost my phone and my flash drive. thrs is a boluwajoko on nairaland that can testify to it and have seen my animals too before i sold them off this last sallah festival, having a few left.
if u r within my axis, i can prove to you one day. my farm is just behind I.I.T.A, in ibadan.
i was so sad when i discovered all i placed on nairaland wiped off sometimes back and also lost my stuffs.
i just had to keep up what i started anyway.

pls dont get me wrong, no critics
just trying to contribute.
Go on with your good job on NAIRALAND.
GOD BLESS

it seems you are here to argue and try and show relevance.my record here speaks for itself, if you have contary veiws state them here with evidence instead of just arguing .i can upload prices, pix and contact you can get goats a year old goats for less than 6000 or less, but generally prices in the south are higher than in north becos the north produces more goats,go out now and price a sizeable he goat (more than two years old)if you will get it less than 17000. anybody can verify that fact .the importance of goat fattening is to buy young goats with low weight and feed the intensive to encourage rapid weight gain and sell when demand is higher, simple logic of demand and supply.
Agriculture / Re: Cattle Fattening/goat Farming/dairy farm For Small Holder Farmer, pix by GGfadar(m): 11:41am On Dec 20, 2014
if u really practise livestock business, how on earth will someone buy a goat less than a year for prices ranging from N6,000 - N9,000, fatten and sell out for N17,000 - N23,000. THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE. i still sold rams and goats i fattened this year and i'm conversant with the livestock market, festive period or not, it is NOT possible bro.
i dont know where u get ur kids from and where u sell to but i doubt ur analysis
felixzo1:
Backyard goat and sheep fattening

Due to popular demand, I am compared to write a piece on sheep and goat fattening, both are small ruminants and share similar characteristics. Therefore I will treat them as one.
This piece is targeted at people who what to fatten small number of goats or sheep targeting festivities like Christmas and end of year and Muslim festivities.
Goats of a young age(less than a year one and above 6 months) can be source from a livestock market closest to you (or an abattoir) price range for this age is between N6000 to 9000 depending on your location,
The goats should be bought and kept in a dry room, a small section of the room should be partitioned for this (do not allow rain to fall on them, goats hate rain, and the floor should be clean and dry always) for best results fresh class should be cut and brought to the goats everyday, (tying a rope around the neck of a goat to restrain them is not an advisable practice. It can affect weight gain and feeds intake) clean water provided and kitchen waste (your leftover eba or even rice and grains should be given. The goats should also be dewormed. When grains are given as suppliements, goats experience a more rapid weight gain and more predictable results can be achieve.
After about 6 to 9 months of fattening and a desirable weight attained. Your goats can be sold to people buying livestock for festivities in your locality, people are usually willing to pay more for goats then and demand is usually higher,
The selling price should between N17000 to 23000 depending on your fattening technique.
