Crime / Lagos Police Arrest Fake Lawyer Parading Himself As Rauf Aregbesola's Aide by GISTBL0G: 8:56am On Aug 06, 2019
Charles Nwadiani, a 42-year-old man who allegedly claimed to be a lawyer, was on Monday, August 5, 2019, arraigned before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

He is currently facing a six-count charge bordering on impersonation, forgery, obtaining under false pretenses and resisting arrest. The Prosecutor, ASP. Gbemileke Agoi, made it known to the court that the accused committed the offence in 2017 at No. 19, Lajo St., Igbogbo Town in Ikorodu.

Agoi said that the defendant falsely presented himself to Shamsodeen Ali as a lawyer and used such to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public. According to the prosecutor, Nwadiani also presented himself to members of the public as a Special Adviser to former governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola.

The prosecutor further said that the defendant used forged business documents bearing Nwadiani and Co. to operate an illegal law office at Igbogbo. He said that Nwadiani unlawfully collected the sum of N1.45 million from Ali with the pretext of providing him legal services.

Agoi said the offences contravened several sections of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs F.A. Azeez, granted Nwadiani bail of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until October 22 for mention.

Gallant Police officers on Monday morning, foiled an attempt by suspected kidnappers to hijack a Lagos bound 15-seater commercial around Rumuji, in Emohua Local Government area of East-West road of Rivers State.

Spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident said that as soon as the kidnappers sighted the commercial bus, they started firing at it from the bush to force it to stop.

But some policemen arrived the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel, thereby, forcing the hoodlums to flee into the nearby bush. The policemen chased the suspects into the bush and eventually, killed three of them, while five others were arrested.

The arrested suspects are helping the police as they under are undergoing interrogation.

DSP Omoni further said the Police had assisted the rest of the passengers to continue their journey to Lagos but the driver of the bus could not continue the journey because of the bullet wound he sustained during the gun battle between the Police and hoodlums.

“The kidnappers had emerged from the bush shot at the tyre of bus. Since launching of the “Operation Sting”,we very much on ground. We sighted them and they opened fire. We returned fire, killed three of them and arrested five who are helping us with investigation. We had to make alternative arrangements for the passengers to continue their journey to Lagos, while the driver who sustained minor injury was taken to the hospital"

Today’s incident is one major breakthrough since Governor Nyesom Wike launched “Operation Sting”on July 26,2019. Wike said that the initiative is a signal for criminals to understand that there is no hiding place for them in the state.

“Operation Sting is our own specialized security initiative anchored on an integrated and coordinated approach fully funded by the Rivers state government to effectively tackle both the sources and drivers of insecurity. Politics / Apostle Suleman Reveals How Sowore Mocked His 2019 Prophecies by GISTBL0G: 5:33pm On Aug 05, 2019
Apostle Suleman of the Omega Fire Ministries has reacted to the arrest of the presidential candidate of Africa Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, by recalling how he mocked the list of prophecies he issued this year.

Omoyele Sowore was picked up by the Department for State Security, DSS, last week just days to the Monday planned protest tagged Revolution Now.

The protest which is aimed at demanding good governance from public office holders kicked off today with members of Revolution Now demanding for Sowore’s release.

Reacting to the arrest, Apostle Suleman recalled how Omoyele Sowore’s Sahara Reporters website mocked the prophecies which he issued at the beginning of the year. He, however, stated that his arrest is wrong because he is unarmed.

He tweeted:

“I mentioned this as the 21st prophecy for the year..the same man whose website insulted and mocked the prophecy is detained..the govt should release him..the killer herdsmen walk free and you detain a man who is unarmed.wrong..”.

However, a Twitter user pointed out that the prophecies is actually wrong because Omoyele Sowore didn’t stop at being a presidential aspirant but proceeded to become a presidential candidate.

Crime / AAUA Demands Prosecution Of Soldiers Who Gang-Raped Student by GISTBL0G: 5:01am On Aug 05, 2019
The management of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, has condemned the alleged sexual assault on one of its students by soldiers of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army. The soldiers were attached to a checkpoint on the Akungba Akoko -Ikare Akoko Road.

The victim, a 300-level student of the Department of Religious and African Studies, AAUA, was allegedly gang-raped by some soldiers at the checkpoint on Wednesday.

The victim was allegedly forced to alight from a commercial bus and dragged into a makeshift shed by the soldiers at the checkpoint and sexually assaulted.

The soldiers, who allegedly perpetrated the act, were said to have been arrested by the brigade, while the army had commenced investigation into the matter.

The university, in a statement on Sunday by its acting Registrar, Mr Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa, called on the army authorities to prosecute the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

The statement read in part, “The university, after its preliminary investigation, noted with concern and amazement that soldiers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, whose duty, among others, is to protect the lives of its citizens, can turn around to exhibit such reprobate tendencies.

“The university, while commending the swift action taken so far by the Brigade Commander on this inhuman and brazen assault on a defenceless and innocent student, calls on the authorities of the Nigerian Army to deal decisively with the perpetrators of the act against humanity.”

The institution urged the army to dismantle the checkpoint at Ikare, where the crime was allegedly committed, and move the soldiers attached to it to Oba-Akoko and Ido Ani areas in the Ose Local Government Area of the state, where kidnapping was rampant.

It also called on the students to remain calm while investigation was ongoing into the matter.

“We will continue to ensure that adequate security measures are put in place to enable the students to continue to pursue their academic activities without molestation,” the AAUA management added.

Celebrities / Police Probe Lekki Strippers’ Video, Tekno Mounts Defence by GISTBL0G: 4:49am On Aug 05, 2019
The Lagos State Police Command says it has commenced an investigation into a viral video of semi-nude women dancing seductively in a display truck around the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in Lagos.

The footage, which has gone viral on the social media, showed semi-nude ladies dancing seductively with singer, Tekno, in a transparent display van in traffic around the bridge on Friday.

The footage, which was said to be a scene from Tekno’s unreleased video titled ‘Agege’, in which he featured Zlatan Ibile, had the musician dancing with the semi-clad women and spraying them money and hitting them on the buttocks, an act which many Nigerians described as obscene.

They also called for the prosecution of all those involved.

However, Tekno, who debunked the claim that he was dancing with semi-clad ladies on his official Instagram account on Sunday, stated that the van was used to convey his crew to a location for a shoot.

He said, “I will like to clear the air about the situation of videos going around of girls in a truck dancing around Lekki or Victoria Island.

“First of all, there was no reason for us to be dancing in a truck around Lekki. There was no music and no ventilation in the truck. We were shooting a music video and we had a shortage of vehicles to convey people to the next location, because some of the cars broke down in between the shoot. We divided ourselves into various vehicles because we had been shooting all day and having fun, and we then moved to the next location.

“However, this was about 12am. This was no form of an advert for a strip club or dancing naked on the streets for any type of reason. In addition, we respect the decency of Lagos and as much as we are entertainers, we are always mindful of what we have and don’t jeopardise it. That’s why we enjoy shooting our videos in Lagos as we all know that it’s the centre of excellence and also the centre of entertainment.

“We sincerely apologise if some people saw this and felt offended by the scenery they saw, it was never intended.”

Speaking with our correspondent on Sunday, the Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department had launched an investigation into the incident.

He stated, “The SCID has been directed to investigate the matter and it has commenced an investigation into this, because it is not acceptable and it is against the law of the land.

“There are laid down procedures for advertisement and the government agency responsible has reacted to that; also, it is against our criminal code and if after investigation those involved are found guilty, they will be charged to court.”

The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency faulted the claim of an advertising firm, Pro-Vision Media Systems Limited, that it had sold the truck used in conveying the semi-nude ladies.

The Lagos State Government has since suspended the advertising firm, but in a swift reaction, Pro-Vision Media Systems Limited claimed that it sold the vehicle to a third party.

However, on Sunday, LASAA faulted the claim and said it was not aware that the truck had been sold.

Speaking with our correspondent, the Public Relations Officers of the agency, Temitope Akande, stated that the firm needed to prove to it that the van had been sold.

He said, “The burden of proof is on Pro-Vision to present to us today (Monday) evidence of the alleged sale of the truck. In terms of the indecent exposure, Tekno will explain that to the appropriate authorities and they will deal with him on that.

“Ours is that an advertising van was used for the display. The suspension of the firm stands pending the outcome of the investigation and part of the investigation is for the firm to show proof that it has sold the truck and it is not in any way connected to what happened.”
