Culture / Hao Ge Appointed As Cultural Ambassador For Nigerians In Diaspora by Godfreytimesblo(m): 7:22pm On Mar 17, 2018 |
By Sarah N. U and Godfrey Igboin Nigerian born mandopop sensation, Emmanuel Uwechue, popularly known as Hao Ge has been officially made the Cultural Ambassador for Nigerians in Diaspora. The Ceremony which held at the state house in Abuja was headed by the Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Arewa. Hao Ge who was accompanied by Chinese investors expressed his gratitude over his new office. Speaking with reporters at the state house, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Arewa said she was proud of his positive representation of Nigeria as most reports from Asia portrayed Nigeria negatively. Emmanuel Uwechue who gained fame in China after his performance at the cctv new gala in 2007 has since been the number one black recording artist in China. This evidently is an appointment well made and needful for its purpose and the dynamic cum vibrant positive portrayal of Nigeria is highly a worthy candidate for this appointment – given the fact that his tremendous representation of our great country did not only reflect in Asia and settled there but vested into the diaspora. This would affect Nigerians positively not just culturally but politically as well because Hao Ge has built a relationship with his music between Nigeria and China needful to the effectiveness of this appointment and thankfully it has grown beyond the spheres of music and into the political terrains, a relationship with politicians of great repute in China then Asia and it’s weight has gained an acknowledgement from politicians likened to great repute in the diaspora and this would most certainly be helpful to the Ambassador ‘s responsiveness to the responsibilities of Nigerians in diaspora and further affect those in business positively owing to the fact that politics and business have a bilateral relationship.

The bible is a book with immense knowledge and guidance on how we are suppose to live but the word of God is only useful to those who believe. Apostle Grace, the founder of Greatest Grace of God Tabernacle is one of those that have chosen to believe by dedicating herself to the greater good of spreading of the gospel of christ and has remained admirably purposeful in the fulfillment of her commission . It was indeed a great day at the Greatest Grace of God Tabernacle on Sunday 4, March 2018 as some of the members where baptized in water immersion but not before the sermon by the gorgeous woman of God which was centred on our preparation for the manifestation of his glory in our lives . she also went on to teach through the leading of christ Jesus and pronounced the month of march a month of soaring higher not just marching forward. In all she emphasised the need to believe in our lord Jesus Christ for in him all things are possible.

When you are happy doing what you love doing then success is sure...evidently, success is sure for the drum goddess ARA, who is a gift to Nigeria and Africa. Overtime, her display of passion for the sophisticated instrument is what she loves best and that brought out the best never seen in her performance at the exclusive night...which credits the fact that it is what you love best that brings the best out of you. The Exclusive Screening of Osunfunke held on Monday had dignitaries of great repute enraptured by powerful rhythms of drum culture. Fabled drum goddess ARA kicked up curiosity with a dramatic entry on stage by having a baby strapped on her back but fews minutes into her performance she stirred up very appreciable feelings of excitement from attendees as they find her song is dedicated to our children. Given that it is an exclusive screening, the drum goddess rendered a performance of an exclusive thrill that had everyone enraptured in her passion for the African drums. Never has energy been this evident in a delivery of art and projection of our culture. The dancing, singing and of course drumming was energetically culture-driven. Undoubtedly, she is the queen of drums cum drum goddess. It's a given that ARA gives a performance of class but this was nothing like we have seen before as her performance was way beyond the upper echelons of gallant rendition. Her energy had everyone attentive to her gigantic show of our culture with her passion for the sophisticated instrument which she used to delight attendees with powerful rhythms of drum culture. Nollywood Star, Delectable Funmi Holder told Godfreytimes that the energy so evident in her performance was 'extraordinary'. She is a gift in the wrong hands...picture her in an environment where a gift like ARA is harnessed then you can't imagine the outcome. she added Stunning Odun Agoro who casted as the lead actor's girlfriend in the movie Osunfunke, a role she played so approvingly well, in a brief chat with Godfreytimes said that the performance was ARA like we've never seen before. She had everyone engaged in the world of drums with a gigantic rendition and it was way more than the awe in awesome.

TV/Movies / NFVCB ED Sits In On HOMEVIDA 2017 Nigeria Intergrity Film Awards by Godfreytimesblo(m): 11:43pm On Dec 05, 2017 |
Executive Director, National Film and Video Censors Board(NFVCB) sits in on HOMEVIDA 2017, Nigeria Integrity Film Awards. HOMEVIDA 2017, a platform promoting positive values through film, held it's 8th edition of Nigeria Integrity Film Awards December 2,2017. The ED who has been very active in being responsive to his duties ever since he assumed his appointment in April,2017 was very much present for the event. Ever-constant with lecturing on 'values' to best shape Nigerian youths who were also very much amongst attendees, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas made very good use of his keynote address which was indeed very impactful given the fact that the night was hash tagged HOMEVIDAIMPACTS. It was an event that engaged attendees with the viewing of Man in the Mirror, Dilemna, Gana Street League respectively by Titi Akinsanmi, Lead, Public Policy and Government Relations, Google. USG Representative and HOMEVIDA 2017 Script Workshop. The platform which currently gives awards in two categories; Short script writing competition and Feature film category, awarded Wives on Strike by Omoni Oboli for Feature film and Silent Tears by Ishaya Bako for Documentary film. Having been possessed with the interest of being in the know, on what has been happening and what would happen, Godfreytimes spoke with Ugochi Ekwueme, Communications Lead, for HOMEVIDA, gladly she said that; homevida is a platform that has been created to train or encourage young script writers to write movies that promotes positive values and we have been doing that now for the past eight years and this is actually the 8th edition. "I mentioned earlier, during the event, you would see that a lot of people who have passed through homevida have actually now moved on to do greater things." "Like one of our winners that we just saw now, Ishaya Bako, who started making homevida films first and now he has been making movies that are being shown in the international film festivals and making movies that actually win awards in this festivals ." "We also have peole like Chris Odeh, who was a winner in one of the platforms and now he is the one who actually produces homevida short films." "He actually produced two movies that we saw here tonight and thats what we want to do." "We want to move people from the level they are in and take them to a higher level." "Provide them that platform where they can start, startup to do greater things." AND TWO OTHER THINGS ON THE BOARDS RELATIONSHIP The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB)'s support has been good. they have been strategic in a way that strikes to better understand the potentials that lies within new digital platform. It's relationship with Homevida has been good in a way that they have been able to support new and upcoming artist who are able to tackle relatively difficult projects...ofcourse like every other organisation there are amazing ways they could actually better position itself in the regulatory and also space, embracing the existing platforms that speak to how institutions directly can self-regulate as well and bring its workers into the digital century as well. we are looking forward to ways that the nfvcb would be able to embrace and approach that and also partner with a whole lot of the likes of Homevida as well. Titi Akinsanmi - Lead, Public Policy and Government Relations,Google. PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BOARD We have been partnering with the nfvcb for as long as homevida has been in inception and nfvcb has provided that support when it comes to identifying those movies that have those kind of messages. so for example, when we need to nominate our feature films, initially it started that way, nfvcb will tell us okay look, you know, they advise us , they actually act as the advisory board when they let us know that this film is in the same criteria that you are looking for, why don't you take a look at them, they take us towards that angle. we also work with nfvcb on a different level when it comes to training the young children, the children in secondary schools on being safe on the internet and that's actually part of the Google funded project that homevida has been part of...so yes nfvcb has provided support in so many ways and we are glad to be partners with them. Ugochi Ekwueme - Communications Lead HOMEVIDA

TV/Movies / NFVCB Sits In On The Creative Industry Meeting by Godfreytimesblo(m): 2:50pm On Nov 02, 2017 |
The inaugural edition of the “Customer breakfast meeting for the creative industry” themed “Supporting the creative economy – Issues and Perspectives” hosted by the bank of industry held on 26th of October, 2017 at Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, the Palms, Lekki, Lagos. In attendance were the National Film and Video Censors Board, Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Cinema representatives, Film makers, marketers and other practitioners in the creative industry. The “Customer breakfast meeting for the creative industry” was organized to help the Bank of Industry (BOI) to learn how they can support the creative industry. There were discussions by industry practitioners on business focused topics. The panelists included renowned actress Mrs. Joke Silva, Mr. Kunle Afolayan, producer of “The CEO”, Mr. Ope Ajayi of Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, popular musician Mr. Dapo “D’banj” Onabanjo, and Ms. Jade Osiberu, producer of “Isoken”, among others. In his welcome address, Mr. Joseph Babatunde who is the General Manager, Large Enterprises Directorate, BOI, said that before the BOI began giving loans, it formed alliances with corporate bodies such as the British Council which helped conduct training tours in Lagos, Abuja and Benin. He noted that the creative industry stakeholders have been giving the BOI a good name worldwide and that out of the N7.6bn invested in the industry, 80-90% is performing well. He added that the idea of the event was to learn ideas on how to do better especially in content and film production, BOI therefore encouraged producers to review their proposals and work with cooperate companies which have expertise in film distribution. Mr. Asika asked how the cinemas keep independent filmmakers happy to which Mr. Ajayi answered that it is impossible to keep everyone happy as the cinemas also have to make money to pay back their own loans. He advised filmmakers to see the cinemas as distribution systems. He also advised that some movies will do better in different locations and don’t necessarily have to be released in every cinema in the country. Ms. Osiberu commented that her movie “Isoken”, was seen by only about a hundred thousand people, which she described as poor. She said that the cinemas can only target a particular section of people hence other opportunities for revenue need to be focused on such as, DVD, pay TV etc. Mr. Osika noted that TV is the best option for distribution in Nigeria but that the main problem is that the market does not support content. He emphasized that TV would pay the most and that banks should put more pressure on the television industry and not the content producers. Mr. Onabanjo insisted that more platforms be provided and that the BOI can partner with individuals to create such platforms. He asked that the BOI can also help fight for policies that make the cinemas show more of local content. Ms. Rosanna Hart of Silverbird Film Distribution commented that most contents are created for adult audiences and none for young ones. She advised that BOI invests in platforms that target the younger generation. Mr. Zik Zulu Okafor commented that there is an awful misconception amongst Nollywood producers that since BOI is a government institution, loans do not need to be paid back and advised the BOI to distinguish between loans and grants. He requested for a training to educate producers on financial literacy. Mr. Okafor called on BOI to train writers in the film industry, insisting that if film contents fail, everything fails. Mr. Asika said that there are talented young Nigerian writers who are not interested in Nollywood but would need to be attracted in some way. He insisted that “creatives” need to respect each other. Mr. Okafor added that cinema scripts are different from regular scripts hence BOI should help Nollywood train writers. He said that for Nollywood to attract quality writers, it must be able to pay them accordingly and that things will remain as they are if contents continue to crash. He also advised that BOI gives some sort of grace period for funded movies to make their money. Mr. Onabanjo commented that foreign writers have a degrading impression of Nollywood which makes it very unattractive. Mr. Ajayi mentioned that a film cannot stay in the cinema if there is no demand as it costs money to keep it on display. He asked that filmmakers improve quality of content. Mrs. Nwuka informed the attendants that applications for community cinemas are rolling in and some projects have begun. She also said that some Nigerian movies for children are being looked into. Comments from the audience were welcomed.Mr. Francis who advised Nollywood to search intensely for content writers and that cottage cinemas can work with hard drives and do not need to depend on Digital Cinema Package (DCP). Ms. Osiberu said that content writers are the weakest link in the film industry hence content needs to be desperately improved on. She said that exhibitors and distributors also produce movies causing them to give more time to their productions than those from individual producers and called on regulatory bodies to do something about it. Another commenter mentioned that scripting is a mechanical process as it is told with pictures but that there is a shortage of good scripts in Nigeria. He also informed the cinema representatives that original equipment for DCP are manufactured and sold in China at cheaper rates. |

Celebrities / UPDATED:RUSE! ARA Never Returned To Atunda Entertainment by Godfreytimesblo(m): 3:02am On Sep 27, 2017 |
The management of Aralola Olamuyiwa, the wondrous forerunner female drummer widely known by the stage name Ara has refuted the story of a return to former label, Atunda Entertainment. The story of Ara’s return to the entertainment platform owned by Wanle Akinboboye was featured on www.thisdaylive.com on Sunday, June 18, 2017 with the link: https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2017/06/18/ara-returns-to-atunda-entertainment/ A press release signed by Ara’s manager, Kanbi Owolabi describes the report as ‘’false’’. The communication reads in part ‘’ There was no time ARA, Nigeria’s sensational talking female drummer returned back to the stable of Otunba Wanle Akinboboye owned Atunda Entertainment as stated in the report. Ara's contract expired in 2007 and she moved on . This is a calculated and premeditated attempt . by Otunba Akinboboye to defraud the general public. At no point in time was there a dialogue between both parties to renegotiate another contract. Ara remains an independent artiste and the story falsely misled and misdirect the attention of the growing fans, associates, clients and international bodies that are associated to ARA in different parts of the world.’’ The statement further stated ‘’ We emphasize the fact that there was never a reconciliation between ARA and Otunba Wanle Akinboboye that warrants her going back to work or perform alongside artistes on her former label. ARA never performed alongside any artistes by names: Anu, The Lady Ekwu and Olomidan Bata at any formal launch of Motherland Beckons Ethiopian destination, Al Nejash/Lalibela. The statement further enjoins Ara’s public, home and abroad, to disregard the report of a return to Atunda Entertainment in its entirety. According to Mr. Owolabi proper communication on how to secure Ara’s service(s) would be deployed very soon.

Nollywood sensation, Bryan okwara, one of the host at the event told Godfreytimes that he sure as hell was stunned by ARA's grand performance. I was very taking by her immense mastery of the drums and I was completely lost in my admiration. The drummer girl had Circle Mall captured by her gallant show of passion for African drums and erased the world outside out of everyone's mind with her splendid rendition. With true passion for the sophisticated instrument, she beat out sounds of great rhythm that connected everyone to the strong and barely controllable emotion of the African drums. Having a good mastery of what you do is one big thing but loving what you do is everything...obviously, very obviously, we all saw her tremendous love for the African drums and fans, music lovers displayed that love in return after her performance by taking loads of pictures with the queen of talking drums.

Failure is a powerful tool to stardom, limelight, getting atop, higher dimensions and of course the world of greatness. It is a key to success but when success is achieved, failure is abandoned like it never mattered. With great delight we bask in people's tale of success and dwell on the glory in it, paying no mind to the fact that we cannot get inspired by a tale of success but from tales of failure we learn and get much more than inspiration. From it we are enlightened with the know-how of handling our times of failure. Every great being has his or her great tales of failure, you appreciate success more when you pass through failure. We must imbue ourselves with tales of failure because its a big enablement. The series in it are teachings to help us connect with the opportunities in life that is likened to the sky, big enough for everyone in it.Like nature to humanity, failure is likened to earth and success to heaven, how we live our life here determines our worthiness of being in heaven...how well we take or treat failure determines our worthiness of success. In the huge interest of putting an end to the dire avoidance of failure, EllaSpeaks Celebrates Nigeria is a TV show where need-to-know tales of failure from Nigerians who used their experience with failure as a tool to success are celebrated. To help those who are yet to get there understand that failure is a gateway to success not the time to give up your pursuit to higher dimensions or success.

TV/Movies / Osunfunke:history,culture,tradition And Love by Godfreytimesblo(m): 2:13pm On Aug 13, 2017 |
After her creation in August 27,1991 the present-day State of Osun's name was gleaned from the River Osun, the adulated natural spring that is the illustration of the Yoruba goddess of the identical name. the inland state is a place of immense time gone by,arts and other manifestation of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively and transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation.Ara's brand of music undoubtedly has been a positive projection of our History,Culture,Tradition and a lot more of the Yoruba race but this time she ups her positive projection with the production of the movie OSUNFUNKE. life is as we well know,is precious, all of life and one must try to take in as much of it as possible and having had us bask in her brand of music over the years...ARA is well above poised to have us basking on for as long as there's life.having taken as much as possible from life, she's hell bent on taking a lot more than she's ever taken and this she has done by giving us something new to bask in and interestingly in a different way. In every glory there's a special grace and in every work of hand God sealed our palm with, there are giftings attached to it and ARA's movie OSUNFUNKE is a fruition of one her giftings and she's more than glad to have us bask in this new positive projection. OSUNFUNKE is a movie I liken to 'The National Treasure Franchise' a movie produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, its much more than a movie...it informs you of what you do not know and reminds you of what you may have forgotten and that's our history,Culture, and tradition while you are being entertained by it with commedic acts from highly admired actors Kunle Mac Adetokunbo aka Dejo Tunfulu who played as Ricardo Agbor's gateman and ADekola Tijani aka Kamoli Kompo, played Femi Jacobs's driver. ARA as Osunfunke in the movie is like Nicolas Cage in National Treasure Franchise very up-to-the-minute with our culture, history and tradition but she also exhibited one of her giftings as an actress and takes us into the know of the fact that she loves love and this she couldn't have done, better with anyone other than Ricardo Agbor, who effortlessly touched the stars with his acting prowess as Teju but unknowingly got himself named Osunwale due to his enthusiast and inquisitiveness for history's knowledge in the film. The cast played their role as if its going to be their best ever acted in the history of their lives as actors and actresses and seasoned Nigeria-Africa admired sensational actress,Doris Simeon as always gave her undivided best that garnished the movie with the exact entertaining acts that we can relate to happenings in real life. love is truth and has absolutely nothing to do with lies and goes to a heart that is true...after getting herself caught up in all her troubles and problems,Osunfunke decides to let life sleep away and heads straight back to Osogbo but given the fact that true love recognizes a heart that is true...After recognizing ARA (Osunfunke) as having a heart is that's true, Ricardo Agbor (Teju) wasted no time in going back to Osogbo to look for her.

Business / NIGERIAN STARTUP: Meet Uwechue Sarah CEO Shokolina's Occasions And Events by Godfreytimesblo(m): 8:34pm On May 12, 2017 |
This week, Godfreytimes brings to light Uwechue Sarah CEO Shokolina’s Occasions and Events a vibrant entrepreneur who possesses ideally the characteristics to start and run a business from Lusada –A large community in agbara, Ogun State. With 50% semi-literate people and 20% literate and then 30% illiterate. The major source of income is business and majority of its inhabitants are farmers and food stuffs are generally cheap. It has the potential for growth but has the unfortunate setback of bad roads and poor market structure. Electricity is surprisingly not a problem there except for areas without electricity, which makes it a favorable site for large scale business. Let’s meet Shokolina’s Occasions and Events Uwechue Sarah: Shokolina’s Occasions and events is my baby, hahaha yea it’s my affair in hand and was founded 1st January 2015. I started with just cakes then I added pastries and food and now our latest project event planning which we are adding to the chain, in other words I am Shokolina’s Occasions and Events. Coming here I observed easily the environment is not business-friendly, how has it been? Uwechue Sarah:Well to be realistic it hasn’t been an easy ride but the hope of what is to come is greater than anything. You are well aware there are many booming event companies in Nigeria and they are growing with their innovations….how do you intend to capture the industry’s recognition? Uwechue Sarah:By being myself. I respect everyone ahead of me in this field and I do appreciate their hard work but I will rather be myself. Passion is hugely an important drive in every profession/handiwork, next to it is commitment and this two things obviously you already have. How have they helped you stay strong in moving on consistently? Uwechue Sarah:Consistency comes very easily when there is passion and commitment. What is Shokolinna? Uwechue Sarah:Hahaha shokolina is my pet name, my siblings fondly call me shokolina because I use to be smallish and manipulative. Charterhouse, the biggest event company in Ghana, as you well know, is a Nigerian company amongst the league of impactful Nigerian businesses in the Gold Coast. Does taking a queue from them interest you? Uwechue Sarah:Of course! If you want to grow you need to learn from those in front of you. What are your plans for creating huge awareness for Shokolina’s Occasions and Events? Uwechue Sarah:Hmmm, right now we are allowing our work speak for us. Being that startups require passion and persistence which flows from purpose, do you find your purpose in this? Uwechue Sarah:Completely. I am a journalist by profession but catering is something I can’t explain I just can’t do without it. In every startup failure is guaranteed, what has been your experience of failure? Uwechue Sarah:Not much thank God for but there’s the problem of things not going as planned, change of location, finding a committed hand to put things in order. Sometimes when you put your ideas out people see it as an opportunity to say stuffs without consideration and that is a huge problem because if not properly handled failure becomes inevitable. Did you have the grace and determination to handle it? Uwechue Sarah:By his grace I did and still do that’s why it’s important to surround yourself with good people and put God above everything. What would you like to tell the youths or people who are afraid of venturing into starting up a business of their own? Uwechue Sarah:Just do it, if you don’t you will regret it. Am not saying don’t think about it but you have to direct your thinking toward the right path because sometimes when you over think things you end up not doing it or getting the wrong result. Education is everything but do not hide behind the mask of being educated and miss the chance to become an entrepreneur.

Fashion / NIGERIAN STARTUP: Meet Grace Durotimi CEO Designs By Splash by Godfreytimesblo(m): 12:20am On May 02, 2017 |
This week on Nigerian Startup, Godfreytimes visits Ikorodu the fastest growing exurb near the Lagos metropolis, situated on the north-east of Lagos and shares a boundary with Ogun state. There we met a young innovative designer, Grace Durotimi, CEO designs by Splash –A fashion outfit for females only. On this first edition of the program, Miss Durotimi interested us with how her passion has been her drive and how she got this perspective that resulted to the innovation of covering nudity in ‘style’. What is designs by splash about? Enlighten us, let’s meet designs by splash. It’s a fashion innovation that has to do with basically feminine clothes, it focuses on covering the nudity of females both big and plus sizes, small size females to create a different impression. You know what they say; first impression matters a lot. When you dress really good, what people think about you would be very good. So, we want to create an impression that one is good, one’s character is good, and one’s outfit looks really good depending on the size and fashion taste of the person. Interesting, what inspired you to this perspective? Aw that’s a very good question. When I was very little my mum use to get me Barbie dolls and then I felt they were naked, they use to come without clothes. So I felt let me just make something, let me create a style. Then I’ll go to a tailor’s place, pick up some pieces and create something for the Barbie and I noticed wow! I really liked it. Majority of my clothes then, once they are not my size anymore, I tend to mix it with another and then just create something that will just fit me. The funniest part is, I use needle and thread then and I didn’t know how to use the machine or whatsoever. When I finished secondary school, you know that process of waiting for the jamb and the rest, my aunt taught me how to sew with the machine but I didn’t know about measurement then. I use to do it myself by picking a cloth I wear that fits me perfectly and then I’ll just put it on the new fabric and just cut, and it was really nice…people just loved it. Even though I wasn’t so perfect, at some point when I was done with OND, I got a skill acquisition message and I just had to go. For four weeks, I already had the knowledge of sewing with a machine but I didn’t know the cutting, measurement and the rest but I learnt it within four weeks. Basically the day I started my mum got me a sewing machine and then it was just very easy when they give us practical’s I’ll just sew and then I notice wow it seems it’s my passion, when I see clothes on people I want to know the style, how it is being cut and the rest then I’ll make it for myself. That’s how designs by splash came up. And my nickname is splash, I just felt designs by splash is unique unlike splash couture and the rest but designs by splash is basically made by splash and it could just be a splash of beauty or splash of creativity, it just adds up together. Impressive but I would like to know how the journey of designs by splash been? This innovation how has it been? The journey has been good, at some point there were ups and downs but you know as time goes on it really would be very good. Well starting from when I started, when I really started sewing, and I use to sew for myself alone. Then at some points when I learnt how to sew mainly with machine, and then knowing how to cut and the measurement I started sewing for my mum. She was like my model, she wore the clothes and people will be like …wow this cloth is nice, who sewed it? And she would gladly say it’s my daughter…she was like, my main advertiser and it was really good. Then I started getting a couple of clothes from people, basically my neighbors then, that will like the clothes and I will just sew…they were really not paying but I just felt it really wasn’t about the payment it was about what I was learning, bringing new styles for me to sew made me crack my head like ok? I want to learn this new style through this so I wasn’t really about the money…I can’t really say have made a lot of money from this, let me just say am just doing it to learn more than have learnt already. So have gotten a couple of clothes to sew it’s been good, the journey has been good, I have learnt a lot …and have learnt how to please customers. You know customers can be very funny but they say customers are always right so you just have to do what they want. So with the customers it’s been good and it’s been weird at times because you have funny customers –sew this, I don’t want this, this is what I told you to sew, this is what you are not sewing… you get me? It’s been good, the journey has been good. The splash of beauty, it’s just when you bring something for me to sew, I add up my taste to it not basically my taste, my taste that will suit you, that will suit your body. You could bring a cloth for me to sew and am like this style will not fit you, it could fit a slimmer person but you’re not slim you are big, let me add up something, something that will make it look more beautiful on you –that’s the splash of beauty…you are bringing a plain design for me to sew then am adding my splash of beauty, am splashing that beauty and creativity into what you want and it will look nice. It might end up not coming out the way you really want it but it will most certainly end up coming out in a very nice way that you will really love it. That’s basically how it’s been. Evidently you enjoy and have passion for what you do. Could you tell us how this passion has been of help to you? It’s really been of help to me in so many ways. I really do have passion for sewing. The fact is that I will just call myself a fashionista. I love anything that just had to make someone look good, I love anything that just has to make me look very fine. It’s really been of help to me in the sense that it has made my fashion sense not too expensive for me, because I get to see styles I like and then it might be ready made but I know I can create it myself I could just get the fabric and just make it myself. Like when I was much younger, I saw this lovely dress on a choir member and I was like wow! Though she was very much older than I was then and I knew it must have been very much expensive …I was like, I like this dress but am going to make it myself even though I didn’t know how to do the measurement thing I just knew how to use the machine. And then I sewed it and it was hugely nice, even when she saw it, she was like wow this is my cloth o and I was like no o it is not your own, it is my own, my own version…she was like wow she likes it and I was like OK. So that way it really made fashion very easy for me, like I get to see clothes and then I know that I can make them. And then my mum might want to sew something, and I’ll just gladly help her out. It’s made fashion cheap –not really cheap but it made fashion very easy for me, it’s really made fashion easy for me. How did the nickname splash came about? Hmmm how did I come with the name splash? Wow it sounds really funny though but it really means something really good. There was this time I wanted to update my BBM name, and I was thinking of a name to use I didn’t want to use Grace which is my name, I was like grace sounds too regular. And then the first name that just came up was splash and I was like wow that’s good…it could just name splash of joy! God should splash joy into my life, God should splash blessing into my life …laughs splash! Splash!! Splash!!! That’s how the name came up. According to the scriptures, it is said that he has sealed the palms of our hands that all men may know the work of their hands…should I take it that this is the work of your hand given to you by God? Is this his purpose for you or part of his purpose for you in life? Well I will say it’s his purpose for me in my life. Because I guess there are certain things that would have distracted me, if it wasn’t his purpose for my life. Basically anytime I just have that opportunity to be free, anything that relates to sewing just comes on. Like when I was just finished secondary school and I learned how to handle the machine, when I was done with my OND and then the skill acquisition came up, and then when I was free again and my neighbors brought clothes for me I just feel it’s God’s purpose for me, it’s really God’s purpose for my life because I guess I won’t have had this all along, right from childhood till now. Because I could remember when I use to go to every tailor’s place to pick up pieces, I guess if it wasn’t God’s purpose for me in life, there would have been something that would have come up –yea I possibly still have other gifts like designing shoes, making wigs but that sewing just has this different, I just feel so different when am sewing, like it is what I want. It is, I just feel so relaxed when sewing unlike when I do other things. So I really feel it is God’s purpose for my life. I must let you know you have interested me and it seems you interested your mum with your passion, given that she’s you biggest advertiser like you said earlier on, How has her support been of help to you? Aww she’s really been, she’s like my biggest fan. Basically the opportunity I got from that skill acquisition thing she was the one that came up with it, she introduced me to it and then I just went. The first day I started learning how to sew, she bought the sewing machine for me. So that way I just felt ah! She is my number one fan oo…laughs!! When I have issues with learning or coming up with an idea she just motivates me like you can do it, you can learn it, and it’s easy. Just believe in God and it will work out. She has basically been the one motivating and encouraging me that you can do it, I could remember at some point maybe there might be some styles I do not know and am like am not sewing again… she will be like no it’s what you really like, and really want to do. And it’s just been really good. She has been my motivation and been the one egging me on to push and keep pushing like don’t worry it will be well. You can start up something, and you can do it. How do you intend to gain a global recognition in the fashion industry? I intending gaining that by creating spaces for all age groups. There are some set of people that don’t get what they really want Fashion-wise because of their age so I intend creating an avenue or a link, could I say a link? Creating a space for all age groups. To come up with what they want and then I would give it to them the way they want it. With a splash of creativity. And I also intend coming up with events that would be beneficial to all age groups, like no matter how old you are you could learn how to sew. This way, am giving out to the society and gaining spreads forth, what is gaining spreads forth? What you’ve learnt from designs by splash, definitely you are going say it’s by designs by splash. Thereby am creating an avenue for the message to go round. And then on the long run ideas might come up, fashion shows, how to do fashion shows and the rest. To help showcase what I have, clothes for plus size and people on the smaller size. Those are the ways I intend gaining global recognition for now, it might not be totally effective but on the short run that’s what am planning. When was designs by splash established? Designs by splash was established last year. That was when I really knew it was what I want to do professionally. So it all started last year. The name and the whole professionalism came up last year. If you were asked to choose between a partnership and sponsorship, which would you prefer? I would prefer sponsorship. Because that partnership, depending on the kind of person or people I would have to partner with, it might end up causing conflicts. So I’ll just prefer to be sponsored. That would prevent issues from coming up, and then I know there will be terms and conditions but sponsorship is better. Given that most celebrities today have evidently expressed how their style has taken them farther than their abilities in the industry, what are your plans for creating awareness for designs by splash to attract celebrities into being your customers? Well, for the meantime I intend creating styles that would fit all categories of people and my styles and designs will speak for itself. There are times I could go out and then possibly meet up with celebrities, the basic thing is speaking it and then once I talk about it with them, we could give it a try. And I believe my style will speak for itself. I would possibly create a way whereby I showcase my designs on social media since that’s one of the easiest ways I could reach out to celebrities, I will post style that could fit what they are into. Be it actresses, musicians and the rest. I create style that fit their duties and then tag them, by seeing it I believe my style would attract them and they surely could give it a try and that goes a long way. Is there any awareness project concerning designs by splash this year? Something like a show or that is still in your pocket of thoughts? I do have plans to create awareness but I don’t think it will come up this year, possibly next year things like that will come up. That’s it next year. Are you working alone at the moment or you have staffs? Am working alone at the moment but on the long run I intend getting staffs. That’s when the workload gets too much for just one person to handle. So I work alone. Concerning your experience and relating to your profession, what would be your advice to the youths? Well considering how I had the talent for this gift of sewing, I would like to advice the youths to try and focus on what they really like and enjoy doing because if you are working and not enjoying what you are doing, I bet you would grow old very fast but if you are working and enjoy what you do, you feel happily relaxed and don’t really feel tired doing it over and over again. So basically focus on things that make you happy, focus on things that are beneficial to you, things that you know other people would also benefit from it. Due to the fact that you’ve learnt it very well and then you done it. Be it sewing, hairdressing, shoemaking and the rest. They say a handy-work pays better and it’s fun, it’s more fun than working in other places, it’s not like you have to work in financial organizations and the rest but having the hand-work is just good because it’s going to be beneficial to everybody around you and the society at large. And then my advice to parents. Try and pay attentions to what your kids like and do, that way you will be able to figure out what they have interesting in. and then you would be able to encourage them, yes, they have to go to school. I believe in having a sound education, I believe in having if it is the minimum of B.SC, HND, you should have it so that they won’t be tagged as a dropout or whatsoever. Try and pay attention in what your kids like and encourage them just as my mum did. Just as my mum did, she noticed I really liked sewing and then she kept on buying those Barbie’s for me, she didn’t protest whenever she saw me picking those pieces in the tailor’s shop. It was all good and then am here today so I believe the whole world would really benefit from designs by splash, because I plan on creating a skill acquisition basically on sewing, where the youths or any other set of people can learn how to sew, pattern drafting, knowing body sizes and shapes and knowing everything that just pertains to fashion and sewing. Celebrities / New Song: 'ara De' By Ara by Godfreytimesblo(m): 7:51pm On Apr 02, 2017 |
Have you missed the sound of a tremendous voice followed through by a talking drum? Ara has put an end to those days by releasing a new song 'Ara de' . In it you will be reminded of culture as always but this time, she includes the great spiritual instrument 'Flute' that flood so well with the talking drum to give you a different level of peace using sound and rythmmaking to bring you that happiness you have missed for so long . In my quest to say say how well the use of guitar was rendered, words fail me because the sounds of the note are best heard than being told. the song also provides deep connections and strong communication. "The song is about never giving up. no one has the power to stop your blessing, when its time, its time. it encourages us to never stop blelieving in ourselves as we have the breath of God that represents power in us and that wisdom is power". she said. Confess positively, take steps of faith, believing God. when it's your time to shine, let no one rob you of that special moment. Go for it! she added. Music is life and like life, it grows. having an identity is one good thing but improving on that which you are identified for, is very approving and Ara has most certainly improved on her unlike anything else brand of music.
