Politics / APC Accuses FG Of Harassing Opposition Leaders. by GowonAbacha: 5:21pm On Sep 17, 2014
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)- led federal government is engaged in a systematic harassment of members of the opposition party, while at the same time, shielding accused Boko Haram sponsor, Ali Modu Sheriff, from the law.
In a statement issued yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party specifically condemned the harassment and intimidation of former Gombe State Governor, Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje, of the APC during a visit to his constituency in Gombe this week.
It said even though Goje had alerted the police authorities in the state of his visit and was provided with security, in the course of the visit, the policemen attached to him were suddenly withdrawn while he was directed to cut short his engagements to answer a summon by the state Commissioner of Police.
‘’Shocked at the action, the former governor decided to conclude his visit, which included a meeting with his constituents, but the policemen stampeded him out of the venue. His attempt to stop over for another condolence visit was thwarted by the police, who stopped his convoy at every turn, as he made his way from Deba to Gombe town, just to embarrass him.
‘’When he finally arrived at Gombe town, he went to see the Commissioner of Police, where he was kept for three hours in what amounted to an illegal detention. When the Commissioner of Police finally saw him, he warned him to cut his convoy to only two vehicles, without explaining why he withdrew the senator’s police security, why he detailed policemen to harass him or why he detained him for three hours.
‘’This action is totally wrong and unacceptable. The police are national institution maintained by tax payers, and it cannot afford to turn itself to the enforcement arm of the ruling PDP, no matter the temptation,’’ APC said.
The party said while Goje was being tormented, another former governor and ex-senator, Sheriff, was landing in Maiduguri, where the federal authorities provided him with massive security, including four truck-loads of soldiers and hordes of policemen and two armoured tanks to escort him from the airport to his residence, which was also secured by armed troops and policemen.
‘’In the first instance, what qualified Sheriff, an alleged Boko Haram sponsor, for such a massive security while another governor and a serving senator was subjected to incredible indignity? Why has the federal government continued with its harassment and intimidation of opposition members, which played out massively during the Ekiti and Osun elections when many of them were arrested and detained without reason? Why has the federal government continued to abuse national institutions in an unprecedented manner?
‘’In any case, has the special treatment given to Sheriff by the federal authorities not shown that he indeed has a special relationship with President Goodluck Jonathan, who made sure he (Sheriff) was part of his entourage during his visit to Chadian President Idriss Deby to discuss the Boko Haram terrorism, despite the bare-face lies by the Presidency?
“Do Nigerians still expect the same FG that is pampering Sheriff to seriously investigate his alleged sponsorship of Boko Haram? Is it not clear now that President Jonathan is himself sabotaging his government’s fight against Boko Haram, on the altar of electoral desperation, by hobnobbing with an alleged sponsor of the terrorist group?’’ APC queried.
The party said while the Jonathan Administration is free to make itself a laughing stock by shielding Sheriff from justice and even bestowing special privileges on the accused, it should desist from abusing its powers by constantly using the police and the military to torment the opposition.
‘’We are documenting all the abuses and in the fullness of time, we will present such to the nation as well as the international community to show the level of political intolerance, abuse of national institutions and the abridgment of citizens’ constitutional rights that are taking place under a democratically-elected government,’’ it said.
Politics / Re: ABU Don Caught In Female Hostel by GowonAbacha: 1:53pm On Sep 17, 2014
EmoBoy: A lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria was apprehended Sunday night at a private female hostel in Samaru, Zaria.
Daily Trust gathered yesterday that the lecturer disguised by wearing Hijab (veil) and attempted to sneak into the hostel before he was intercepted.
A witness, Khalifa Sha’aibu, alleged that, that was not the first time the lecturer was entering the hostel to visit his girl friend.
Sha’aibu added: “The most annoying thing is the fact that the man used Hijab. As a Muslim, I feel sad that somebody would use something that women of faith are known with to perpetrate crime. I wonder why the man would not get a hotel room to perpetrate his immoral act. It was a vigilante member that noticed the structure of the man and exposed him. After he was caught, we discovered that he has been entering the hostel with the consent of the girl. The owner of the private hostel had barred men from entering the rooms.”
It was further gathered that the lecturer was handed over to a team of army personnel that are manning a check point close to the university.
Daily Trust also gathered that the officers ransacked the lecturer’s house.
When contacted, Director of Public Affairs in the university, Dr. Ismail Shehu, said he heard something like that but that no official report has been made.
He added that when an official report is received, the university will take action.
“As you know, ABU does not tolerate indiscipline. Investigation would be carried out and both the lecturer and student would be punished accordingly. There is no doubt about that,” he said.

Politics / Re: Why Mr. Seun Osewa? by GowonAbacha: 11:45am On Sep 17, 2014
nickxtra: Mr. Seun, we assume Nairaland Forum, although created by your humble self is a platform which is intended for free expression by all Nigerians and none Nigerians alike, subject to strict compliance to all the conditions therein. This I have been sincerely observing in all my posts and comments, untill I raised an alarm on 15th day of Sept, 2014 about the 'unjust' posting of 'unworthy' topics to front page, while better and more informative and educative topics are not considered for front page. Now Mr. Seun or to whom ever it may concern, that particular post has been REMOVED or DELETED without recourse to me - either to reprimand me of the unpleasantness or undesirabiliy of such a topic or to refute my observation. I think that is a serious breach on your part, for which I am 'eminently' qualified to get the reason(s) why the post was deleted and subsequently an apology from you, unless genuine or tenable reason or reasons are tendered to the satisfaction of all Nairalanders. According to you, Mr. Seun, as paraphrased hereto, 'you can erase our data, but you can't erase our memory'. Please, the said post is a 'child of my brain', I want it back. Thank you.
If I hear sey the boy return your topic to you grin... He has eaten it and digested it. E don even shìt am commot tey tey grin. There's no crime in waiting for front page dear. It took me just a month to make front page before my original account got banned for ten solid years. All thanks to seun. So just multiply 1 month X 4 years + 7 years grin. You'll still be active on nairaland by then and would have made front page grin
