Politics / Re: Between Gowon And Adekunle, who Committed More Crimes Against The Biafrans? by GowonAbacha: 8:31pm On Sep 15, 2014
Orunto: None of the above. Adekunle should be honoured post humously for his efforts to unite this country. At least, nobody has accussed him of stealing $2.8bn to make such contributions to Nigeria.
Did you just say unite? Stop being a clown.
Politics / Amaechi: Presidency Plots To Destabilise Rivers Again by GowonAbacha: 8:17pm On Sep 15, 2014
Rivers State Governor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday alleged that the presidency had hatched another plot to throw the state into another politically-motivated crisis.
He made the allegation in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, David Iyofor, noting that there were reports that indicated a fresh sinister plot to throw the state into avoidable crisis
He added that the new state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dan Bature, had been directed by the presidency “to install a gubernatorial aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as governor in the 2015 elections.”
He said the police commissioner “has been instructed to use the former state Police Commissioner, Mr. Joseph Mbu’s draconian style and tactics in causing crisis in the state.
“He is to tackle Amaechi, his supporters and Rivers people and then install the preferred candidate as governor. Reports fingered the presidency (again, the First Lady) in Bature’s deployment to the state for the purpose of executing this toxic script.
“While it is easy for a few in the presidency to dismiss these reports, we cannot dismiss it with the benefit of hindsight and collective bitter experience in the hand of Mbu who was also reported to have a similar mandate before his deployment.”
The governor, therefore, said the people of the state would resist any attempt by anyone or institutions, including the presidency, to unconstitutionally install the preferred PDP aspirant as governor of the state, now or in the 2015 elections.
He added that there “is no provision in the Nigerian constitution and laws for the ‘installation’ of a preferred aspirant as governor of a state by the presidency. What our laws prescribe is a free and fair election that must be devoid of police and security forces coercion, harassment and intimidation of voters.
“Voters in the state must be allowed to freely choose and elect their governor in the 2015 elections. It is their inalienable democratic right that they will not and will never surrender to anyone or institution, including the presidency.
“We must warn that the looming danger ahead for our polity and our country is indeed ominous, if this noxious script is acted out. This is an avoidable crisis that must be avoided by all parties mentioned in the reports.”
But he congratulated Bature, urging him “to act professionally and firmly resist any external influences and pressure to be politically biased and partisan in the discharge of his duties to the people of the state as the police chief.
“We pray God and his conscience guide him to do only what is constitutional, lawful, right, just and fair in policing the state. We assure the Rivers people that we will remain vigilant as we head towards the 2015 elections,” Amaechi said.
