ANAMBRA RERUN: YPP DEFEATS APGA TO WIN NNEWI NORTH, NNEWI SOUTH AND EKWUSIGO FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY, AND PDP TO WIN ORUMBA NORTH AND ORUMBA SOUTH FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY RERUN ELECTIONS

The chances of the member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon Uchenna Elodimuo to retain his position at the Green Chamber was thwarted on Saturday following his defeat at the Rerun Election organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the order of the Court of Appeal, by the Candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Hon Peter Uzokwe.

Official results from the Rerun announced by INEC showed that votes from various Wards in Nnewi secured a resounding victory for the YPP Candidate. Breakdown of the results collated after Saturday’s Rerun showed that the YPP Candidate won in Otolo Ward 1, Otolo Ward 2, Otolo Ward 3, Uruagu Ward 1, Uruagu Ward 2, Umudim Ward 1, Umudim Ward 2, as well as in Nnewichi Ward 1 and Nnewichi Ward 2, while the Candidate of APGA was only able to win in Uruagu Ward 3.

Further breakdown of the result in the three local government areas of the Federal Constituency showed that the YPP Candidate won the election after defeating the APGA Candidate heavily in Nnewi North Local Government Area by polling seventeen thousand one hundred and twelve votes while APGA polled eight thousand seven hundred and fifty votes in the Local Government.

However, the APGA Candidate won in Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Local Government Areas but the votes from the two local government areas were unable to override YPP votes in Nnewi North and consequently, failed to retain a seat for the APGA candidate at the Green Chamber. In Nnewi South Local Government Area, APGA polled five thousand six hundred and fourteen votes while YPP polled two thousand four hundred and sixty-eight votes, and in Ekwusigo Local Government Area, APGA polled eleven thousand and forty-eight votes while YPP polled five thousand nine hundred and thirty-eight votes.

The total votes cast in Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Local Government Areas which are the three local government areas of the Federal Constituency showed that the Candidate of YPP, Honourable Peter Uzokwe, a former President-General of Ozubulu community polled twenty five thousand five hundred and eighteen votes to emerge winner while the current member representing the Federal Constituency and APGA Candidate, Hon Uche Elodimuo lost his seat after polling twenty five thousand four hundred and twelve votes.

Also, in Orumba North and Orumba South Federal Constituency Rerun Election, YPP thwarted the hope of the PDP Candidate, Hon Okwudiri Ezenwankwo to replace the current member representing the Federal Constituency, Princess Chinwe Nnabuife at the Green Chamber. Princess Nnabuife who was also the Candidate of YPP in the Rerun polled a total of fourteen thousand four hundred and ninety-six votes to retain her seat and defeated Hon Ezenwankwo who polled a total of thirteen thousand and eighty-seven votes. Further breakdown of the result showed that APGA Candidate Eze Kanayo Eric came third with ten thousand four hundred and seventy-nine votes while Ugochukwu Nkiru Ebere of the Labour Party came fourth with six thousand four hundred and sixty-four votes.

Reacting to the results, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, CON, the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District which is the Senatorial District of the Federal Constituencies in which the Rerun Elections took place thanked the President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for promoting free and fair election in the Senatorial District. Senator Ubah also appreciated INEC for their professionalism and urged the winners to be humble in victory and work with other contestants for the betterment of their constituencies and Anambra South Senatorial District.

Politics / Ndi Apga And Their Analysis That Is Always Bereft Of Strategic Thinking. by grassrootsig: 6:36pm On Feb 03
NDI APGA AND THEIR ANALYSIS THAT IS ALWAYS BEREFT OF STRATEGIC THINKING.

1. Apga was given the expo that YPP had 262 votes in their kitty before the rerun election. If they are strategically focused as a party on the ground at Awka, their approach will be two barrel. Have die-hard Apga faithfuls 262 to vote to nullify the YPP's ealier handy vote. And secondly, engage YPP in the field to fight for votes available. With this they will win the battle hands down.

2. How could Apga an assumed party on the ground not able to muscle 50 percent of voting strength in 5 pooling units. They managed to struggle for less tan 3%. That's a failure.

3. Sen Ifeanyi Ubah does not need further strategy to win the election, only to ensure that the vote in the field has a lower margin since there are undiluted 262 votes in his pocket. With this he saves money and energy and lets Apga spend money and energy and finally lose the election.

4. You can not use 5 polling units results to measure strength in a town with over 50 to 100 polling units.
So if strategically reasoned out as above Apga us expected to hide their face in shame as a party with out a rudder in Nnewi

CONCERNED ANAMBRARIANS WRITES ANOTHER OPEN LETTER TO GOV SOLUDO.

Dear Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, please forget about the Dubai-Taiwan and give us Abakiliki-Ebonyi

The worst mistake a Leader must not do is allowing liars and sycophants around him, Mr. Governor you are surrounded with clueless sycophants whose only ambition is telling you what you want to hear (lies) and then fill their pockets with proceeds from both your table and from the coffers of Government.

Prof. permit me to remind you that Anambra State of today is everything our dear State should not be. Everything is totally broken, there is urgent need to mend it.

Not to conduct local government election has kept the knees of our dear Anambra State on the ground. Using party men without character as transition Chairmen and Councilors encourages massive corruption and looting. Unfortunately, this has continued to underdevelop our dear State because,Government which ordinarily supposed to be close to the people is very far from the people.

There should be a check on Government officials extorting money worth millions from traders, drivers and okada riders.

Ndị Anambra cannot wait to see a very pragmatic approach that will effectively straighten our agricultural policies. We believe that Anambra can actually export Agricultural produce to the world; not audio exportation as witnessed under His. Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano.

Prof.,Ndị Anambra does not need an International Hotel now but an Industrial revolution that will create jobs for millions of Anambra Youths. This must be given the needed attention to dissuade our vibrant Youths from indulging in ritual killings, internet fraud and other criminal tendencies.

*Ndị Anambra cannot wait to see the abandoned projects of Peter Obi such as Nnewi Mall, Awka Mall, Onitsha water scheme, etc completed. The completion of such economic viable projects will not only add value to IGR of the State, but it will also provide employment for hundreds of young Anambrians.

Prof. Anambrians wants to see educational reengineering in our School System. Anambra State that was known for been at the apex in local and foreign examinations is currently lost in the euphoria of past glories. There is a great need to give adequate attention to the Primary and Secondary Schools in our State. A lot of our Schools are in a terrible state of decay.

Finally Prof. Anambrians are begging you to give them ABAKILIKI-EBONYI, since the AFRICAN DUBAI-TAIWAN which you promised during your campaign is no longer possible.

May God bless Anambra again.

Politics / LG Polls: Close To 2-yrs As Governor, Soludo Continues To Breach Constitution by grassrootsig: 8:46am On Jan 30
LG Polls: Close to 2-yrs as Governor, Soludo continues to breach constitution.

Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has remained in breach of Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, since his swearing in, close to two years ago.

The quoted section of the constitution aptly provides that “The system of local government by democratically elected local government councils is under this Constitution guaranteed; and accordingly, the government of every state shall, subject to Section 8 of this Constitution, ensure their existence under a Law which provides for the establishment, structure, composition, finance and functions of such councils.”

In Anambra , Soludo and Anambra State House of Assembly have remained in flagrant abuse of the process, and have continued to run the local government with caretaker committees, in place of elected chairmen.

Late last year, the Senate asked the Federal Government to block statutory allocations to any local government council not democratically elected. The Red Chamber unanimously resolved that this move would deter the dictatorial tendencies of state governors.
The resolution was sequel to a motion moved by Sen. Abba Moro. The lawmakers argued that the placement of Caretaker Committees to replace Elected Councils is an aberration, undemocratic and a breach of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). Senator Victor Umeh (representing Anambra Central Senatorial district), who seconded the motion, lamented that the issue has continued to undermine the local government system in Nigeria. Consequently, the Senate condemned the arbitrary dissolution of democratically elected local government councils in most states, including Anambra.

Anambra is one of the worst states in terms of non-conduct of local government elections. The last local government election in the state was held during the twilight of the Peter Obi administration in January 2014.
Many had blamed him for remembering to do so only when his administration was winding up, but at least he did.

For eight years, former governor, Chief Willie Obiano failed to conduct the election, heightening the quest for it.

During the 2021 governorship election in the state, it was obvious that only one who supported the conduct of the election may get the people’s votes.
Prof Soludo cashed in on that. He promised that if elected, the local government election would be one of his priorities.
On March 17, Soludo will be two years in office. There has been constant prodding by opposition parties for the governor to hold election, but many believe that there is nothing on ground to show that Soludo is ready for it.

While there is no constituted electoral body, the lawmaker representing Awka South 1 constituency in the House of Assembly, Henry Mbachu, during the presentation of the 2024 budget, lamented the absence of budgetary allocation for the conduct of LG polls. He said: “Going through the budget estimate presented, it is glaring that there are no intentions of conducting LGA elections next year (2024).
“On page 475, the budget for the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission for this current year was N89,120,000, while the projected estimate for the incoming year is N129,120,000. “You find out that there’s no feasibility or readiness for local government elections for the incoming year. I worry so much because this tier of government has suffered so much because of a lack of local government elections.”

Meanwhile, a human rights activist, Mr Kenechukwu Kodili, who spoke to journalists, lamented that Soludo was already disappointing the people by reneging on the conduct of local government elections in the state. He said: “For close to two years of being the governor, all he (Soludo) does is renew the tenure of the caretaker local government chairmen every three months.
“That was not what he promised the people. He was himself elected into the governorship seat, he should also conduct elections to elect local government chairmen, not to keep renewing the appointment of those he appointed.”

Many concerned Nigerians are worried that despite the clear provision of the constitution and even court judgements, Soludo has continued to breach the law, despite his own promise. Several court pronouncements have held that the use of caretaker committees was in conflict with section 7(1) of the 1999 constitution, but every two months, the House of Assembly on the prompting of the state governor renews the tenure of the appointed caretakers of local government system in Anambra.
However, Soludo who used the conduct of local government elections as part of their campaign promises, reneged immediately he got elected into office.

It could be recalled that former president Muhammadu Buhari had at a time signed an executive bill mandating the direct payment of statutory allocation to the state judiciary, legislature and the local government councils.

Many believe that corporate malfeasance abound in the handling of LG funds by the governor, with the local government chairmen always crying in silence for fear of victimization, especially as they were appointed by him, and would like to keep their positions.

As 2025 governorship election creeps in, many are waiting to know if Soludo will redeem his promise by holding the local government election before then.

Meanwhile, a top contender of the position of governor, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah CON, (The Lion of Igbo Nation/Ikemba Global) has condemned Soludo for reneging on his promise. Sen. Ubah said unlike Soludo who went back on his promise, he would conduct the local Government election in four months after his swearing in. He said this will Fastrack development in all the Council areas simultaneously, and also shed the weight of governance off the state governor.

Politics / Senator Ifeanyi Ubah's First Constituency Briefing For The Year 2024. by grassrootsig: 10:01am On Jan 25
SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH'S FIRST CONSTITUENCY BRIEFING FOR THE YEAR 2024.

~ An assurance of reinforced zeal to better the lives of the people of Anambra South Senatorial District.

The story of representation in Anambra South Senatorial District took a different turn with the advent of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah in the red chamber in 2019. In his avowed determination to bring about a drastic change in the fortunes of the people of his zone, the senator took off from day one with a clear vision of what needs to be done in order to change the face of representation in the district. This he commenced by throwing his doors open to the people of the senatorial zone in a classic case of 'Open Door Representation'.

In keeping with his avowed commitment towards an open door policy of representation, the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, CON, on Monday 22nd January 2024, held the 1st Constituency briefing for the year 2024 at the Authority 91.9 FM Nnewi.

During the well-publicised and eagerly anticipated constituency briefing that witnessed an unprecedented avalanche of calls from both constituents as well as other persons resident in Anambra State, Senator Ubah brought the listening audience up to speed on his activities so far at the 10th Senate as well as the upcoming projects and programs for the year.

The Senate Committee Chairman on Petroleum Downstream reassured his audience of his firm commitment towards the consolidation of his then outstanding achievements during the 9th Senate.

You may recall that Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah's Midas Touch during the 9th Senate led to the delivery of several impactful bills and projects with at least one project each in all the 119 wards in Anambra South Senatorial District. A truly remarkable feat for a then first-time Senator elected on the platform of a minority party, which he capped with the groundbreaking Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract, the PSC Bill that got signed into law by the former president Buhari and yields billions in yearly revenue accruals to the coffers of the federal government.

In addition to the several projects that the Senator facilitated in the Senatorial District, his Operation Light up and Secure Anambra South Project also led to the delivery of solar-powered streetlights in all the wards in the district.

The Senator who recently joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as part of his effort aimed at attracting bigger dividends of democracy to his Senatorial District, has also since upped the ante by delving into the security challenges facing the District despite being a legislator.

His efforts in this regard have also witnessed massive success, especially in Nnewi and its environs, and are hugely responsible for the mass return witnessed this yuletide in the Senatorial District.

Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, CON, informed the people of his Senatorial District about the change in date of the proposed empowerment program tagged the "Mother Of All Empowerment" program which is now slated to take place from the 20th of February to the 28th of February 2024 across the seven local government areas that make up the Senatorial District.

During the Constituency briefing, Senator Ubah also brought his audience up to speed on his collaborative efforts with various community stakeholders through which he is currently extending his hugely successful security architecture to various towns even beyond his Senatorial District.

Various towns like Igboukwu, EnuguAgidi, Abatete, Alor Nnobi, Awka Etiti, Ukpor, etc., have benefitted or are in the process of benefiting from the Senator's laudable security initiative even as more towns are reaching out for similar engagements with the Distinguished Senator.

Highlight of the programme was the phone-in session during which several callers expressed disgust at some of the recent actions by the state government such as the suspension and intimidation of the traditional rulers that gave him Chieftancy titles in appreciation of his groundbreaking security initiative in the state and the destruction of wares belonging to market women by agents of government enforcing ban on roadside trading while several others also called in to appreciate the Senator for being close to the grassroot and for his politics of development and human capacity building.

Indeed, when the righteous is in power, the people truly rejoice.

DOOR-2-DOOR 4 SEN IFEANYI UBAH GROUP HAS EXPANDED ITS FOOTPRINT TO AWKA SOUTH LGA BY INAUGURATING LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA (LGA) EXCOs AND WARD EXCOs(comprising the Chairman, Women Leader, and Coordinator ACROSS THE 20 WARDS IN AWKA SOUTH LGA), SHOWCASING ITS COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.

The inauguration ceremony, which took place on January 21, 2024, at Liberty Hotel in Awka, Anambra State, was a momentous occasion, well attended.

During his address to the Awka South LGA Chapter's executives, The convener, Hon Bona Ogbonna provided insightful context into Senator Ifeanyi Ubah's CON, strategic decision to align with the central party. Drawing parallels with the developmental success of Ebonyi State under the leadership of former Governor Dave Umahi, he highlighted the transformative impact of joining the central party during the administration of former President Mohammadu Buhari.

Hon Bona urged all present to contribute their best efforts in supporting Senator Ifeanyi Ubah CON, affectionately referred to as the "Lion of Igbo Nation/Ikemba global," assuring them that their collective commitment would yield positive outcomes for Anambra State.

He further stated, “Senator Ifeanyi Ubah's benevolence was evident during kerosene scarcity, where he distributed free kerosene to individuals. His philanthropy extended to the construction of Nnewi Catholic Cathedral, and the establishment of employable investments like Authority Newspaper, Authority FM Radio and Authority TV. The construction of a FIFA-certified stadium not only bolstered the sporting landscape but also aided in the socio-economic development of the surrounding areas, earning recognition as the best in West Africa.

His commitment to security was underscored by his investment in resources, equipment, and personnel, earning Nnewi the distinction of the best security status in Anambra State.
