As the year 2017 is running to an end, i wish to hear testimonies from all agro-investors in the house; your gain, loss, new experience and challenges so as to encourage new farmers and help others learn.

MINE PERSONALLY

2017 i took the bold step of starting on crop production. i made a huge loss. i tried again with experience i gained from my first trial and it was a great improvement although not perfect. i believe next year i will get there.

Striker is selective. Atrazine is not. Generally, the word 'selective' is dangerous. Be careful what you spray once crop germinates. My neighbour lost his 100-acre maize this year to 'selective' herbicides.
thank u very much, just what I wanted to hear.... anybody with tested and trusted selective herbicide?

stagger:

Paraquat and Atrazine are both herbicides. However I must say that they do not last the whole season, because I am on the verge of having to use a selective herbicide to spray again.

As per tractor work, there is:

- ploughing: initial tilling by tractor
- harrowing: splinters the ploughed soil further
- ridging: separates the soil into ridges for planting.

what is the name of the selective herbicide you wanto ue plus hope its trusted?
Agriculture / Re: Maize Farmers Come In Here by hadex90(m): 7:49am On Aug 06, 2017
anybody knows about good pre emergence and post emergence herbecide? and one stupid question please how do we apply fertilizer? is it also sprayed like the herbicides

The only way you can have a decent yield is if your land is super fertile. Without the use of fertilizer/manure, you'll have a poor maize yield.

Don't even go near hybrid corn without fertilizer. Has a higher nutritional requirement compared to the regular op varieties.
can you please give me the step to step application of fertilizer for Oba 98 and the type and quantity of fertilizer to use per acre thanks

[quote author=stagger post=57156253]I just got the following:

- 20kg of Oba98 at N375 per kilo from Premier Seeds: (7,500)
- Leased 1 hectare of land: 10,500
- land clearing: 20,000 (opted for manual clearing to preserve the top soil. I also want to plough in the stump remnants into the soil)
- 3 litres of Paraquat @ 1,600 each: 4,800
- 3 kg of Atrazine Powder @ 2,300 each: 6,900
- Sprayer will spray the herbicides at 10,500 for the entire hectare.
- Seed planter from China: 50,000 (could have been cheaper but I used express shipping). I plan to hire 1 person to plant the whole hectare in one day @ 5,000 max. I want to get the spacing spot on and reduce labour costs.
- Tractor hiring for tilling and harrowing: not yet negotiated.

some question bro, paraquat and atrazine powder are herbecides and insecticide respectively right?
2ndly harrowing and tilling what is their function?
