Politics / IWD:GOV Sani Bello Lauds Women's Role In Nation Building by Handsomecole(m): 7:23pm On Mar 08, 2021 |
Niger State Governor and Chairman North Central Governors Forum (NCGF) Abubakar Sani Bello has said that the nation's socioeconomic and political development is unattainable without the full contribution and participation of women in governance. The Governor in a statement by his chief press secretary,Mary Noel Berje noted that, as the foundation of human development, women possess the pedigree and wherewithal to be in the forefront to put this country in the right trajectory of growth and development without bias or sentiment. Governor Sani Bello, who joined the rest of the world to mark the year 2021, International Women's Day, said women are more resilient, hardworking, less corrupt and truthful in handling issues of public service in the overall interest of everyone. The Governor admitted that there is the need to give women more opportunities to hold elective and appointed political offices in the country in line with the Women empowerment affirmation protocol and the Geneva Convention of 1977. He stated that, although they are falsely regarded as the 'weaker sex', women are physiologically and mentally stronger than men stressing that they must be accorded special respect and protected against all forms of societal vices.and discrimination. The Governor disclosed that, since assumption of office in 2015, and for the second term in 2019, his administration has given greater representation to the womenfolk by appointing them into top public offices and engaged several others in various empowerment programmes that have made most of them self reliant and independent. The statement read in parts : "In respect to women participation in governance, we'll say our administration has scored a lot of firsts. We have four women appointed as Commissioners, the first woman Head of Service and the Chief Press Secretary as well as many Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants respectively". He said his administration has shown fairness in the political equation of the state and assured of his resolve to encourage more women as a demonstration of its commitment to good governance and gender sensitivity. While congratulating the Women on this occasion, Governor Sani Bello urged them not despair but remain resolute and continue to offer their selfless services, individually and collectively, for the overall development of the state.

The Plateau North and Deputy Chairman Senate Committee on Defence saluted the Theme for the celebration "ChooseToChallenge" was well thought out and captures an already established fact that the world does not give you what you deserve but what you fight for. Watching the world bow to welcome her the first day on assumption of office as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation is no doubt a bold statement and a salute to womanhood! "Such significant and world humbling outings by women need to be replicated particularly by the African woman to erase the vestiges of repugnant cultures and compel respect, recognition and positioning of women for strategic leadership both in the public and private sectors and also for global reckoning. The Senator noted that the greatest instrument and platform for raising, preparing and equipping African women of the future is education. In this regard, the need for increased support for Girl child education in Nigeria is the key to drive the emancipation and development of women in the Nigerian society and should therefore be taken as a priority by governments at all levels. Politics / Anambra 2021:Why Anambrarians Want Me To Become Their Governor-Sen.Uche Ekwunife by Handsomecole(m): 8:37am On Mar 08, 2021 |
Kenneth Udeh Current Senator and major contender in the forthcoming Anambra Gubernatorial elections under the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Uche Ekwunife has affirmed that her achievements in the Senate and years of experience in public service as some of the major reasons she would get the support and mandate of the electorates to become the next Governor of Anambra State. The Anambra Central Senator maintained that her qualifications meet the yearnings of the people,Ekwunife also stated that asides maintaining a well grounded relationship with the people of Anambra, the people would vote for a candidate based on their performance which according to her is a criteria she possesses. Ekwunife disclosed this during a brief chat with newsmen in Awka the State capital ,during the flag off of her empowerment programme where she distributed 400 tricycles to her constituents. "The people will vote for me because they know me and I know them. I have always been part and parcel of the people. This time around the people need someone that they know and understand, said Ekwunife. Speaking further she said ; " I schooled and worked here in this state all through the years of my life. In public service,I became a Senator in 2015, I was there briefly where I was chairman of the Senate committee on downstream and that was the first time a woman and Southeasterner will be occupying such a position. "Then I left as a result of the judgement of the court which I believe was as a result of judicial rascality. By the grace of God I re-contested and won in 2019 currently I am chairman of the Senate committee on science and technology. On why she should be voted Ekuwnife said that she has been working for the people which has always earned her their votes. In her words ; "For the fact that my people have been voting for me consistently since 2007 till date testifies that I am working for them. Anambra is a very interesting state , and the people will always support you when you're performing according to their expectations and when you're not doing well the people will not support you. "So because I am sure I am doing well they will vote for me and my works over the years will speak for me. Anambra currently needs an experienced administrator , Anambrarians need someone who understands the state and the people. The people need someone who understands the challenges confronting the state. "You cannot solve a problem you don't understand, I believe I have the solutions to the problems of our dear state. Also, I am confident that I will be the best Governor Anambra has ever produced because I will be fair, just and most importantly govern with empathy. The exercise was graced by Abia-North Senator and Chief Whip of the Senate,Senator Orji Kalu on the invitation of Senator Ekwunife to administer the distribution of empowerment items. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/anambra-2021-why-anambrarians-need-me-to-become-their-governor-senator-ekwunife/

Politics / Involvement in forgery, criminality, how Abaribe Lost Deputy Governorship Position by Handsomecole(m): 9:13am On Mar 05, 2021 |
A group Concerned Abia Professionals has accused the former deputy governor of the state, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe of losing the opportunity of contesting as the running mate of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu for a second term in 2003 governorship election in the state as a result of his involvement in what it called criminal forgery of revenue receipts and diversion of public funds to personal pocket. According to the group, the Abia South Senator while he was deputy to Sen Kalu during his first term in office played an ignominious role and act of criminality that lead to the ouster, stating that he and his cohorts forged the revenue receipts of the state and fraudulently diverted the state’s purse to their personal purse. READ ALSO: Alleged Attack On Yahaya Bello: Apologise Now, APC Tells Abaribe The group in a statement signed by Dr. Andrew Chukwuma was reacting to the book titled Made In Aba, authored by Sen. Abaribe in which it accused him of deliberately attempting to malign the character of his former boss, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, Abia North, and other illustrious sons of the state. Concerned Abia Professionals described Senator Abaribe as an ingrate, recalling how Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu allegedly picked him from obscurity and made him a deputy governor. It says Sen. Abaribe was allegedly languishing in Lagos and struggling to get a ticket to contest for House of Assembly in Abia when he ran into Sen. Kalu who as of then was already made and was the front line candidate for governorship election In Abia. They say it was when Abaribe ran into Sen. Kalu that his political fortune changed as Sen. Kalu offered him on a platter of gold the deputy governorship slot without previously knowing who Abaribe was. The release further read, “Indeed Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe owes all his political success to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and family, who brought him from obscurity and gave him a political future “The group who is not holding brief for Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu or family stated that they are concerned because Orji Kalu is one the biggest lights from the South East Zone therefore they wouldn’t fold their hands and watch his reputation stained especially since they were privy to what lead to the fall of Enyinnaya Abaribe as deputy governor of Abia state. READ ALSO: I Survived 3 Impeachments As Orji Kalu’s Deputy – Abaribe “Finally the group enjoins Abains and indeed Nigerians to jettison the masked attempt to tarnish the image of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu whom they hold in high esteem especially when the false assertions vituperated by senator Enyinnaya Abaribe did not in any way directly indict Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu rather he was merely chasing shadows “Furthermore the group stated that the book ” made in Aba” is incoherent, shallow and empty, and more like a forged memoir of a rabble-rouser.” https://abntv.com.ng/2021/03/abaribe-lost-deputy-governorship-position-over-involvement-in-criminal-forgery-group-alleges/

Politics / FG Acts On Sen.kalu’s Eastern Rail Motion, sets Date For Flag Off by Handsomecole(m): 8:11am On Mar 01, 2021 |
Kenneth Udeh,Abuja Sequel to a motion sponsored by the Chief Whip of the Senate and Abia-North Senator, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that it will execute the groundbreaking ceremony for the Eastern rail corridor on 9th March, 2021. According to the Federal Government, the project which was recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari will be inaugurated by the President himself on the aforementioned date. The project will involve the redirecting of the Eastern line to two new spurs namely: Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, and Awka, Anambra State. The Federal Government via it's Minister of Transportation, ChibuikeAmaechi disclosed this during an inspection tour to all the stations from Mobolaji Johnson Station at Ebute Metta to Ibadan station over the weekend. This development is sequel to a motion sponsored by the Chief Whip of the Senate and Abia-North Senator; Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in July last year. The motion titled “urgent need to resuscitate and reactivate the rehabilitation and concession of the Eastern Rail line Project” received a unanimous resolution by the Senate. See: https://www.independent.ng/senate-urges-fg-to-prioritise-rehabilitation-of-eastern-rail-line/ As part of its resolution the Senate tasked the federal government to quickly rehabilitate the Eastern rail line to ease the nation's transportation challenges. To ensure the task is not neglected, the Senate also mandated its Committee on Land Transport to relate with the relevant Ministries and agencies and ensure the Executive facilitated the execution of the Eastern corridor immediately. Kalu in his lead debate rued one of the greatest challenges facing the nation as an emerging economy is poor infrastructural development. He stated that, “the movement of goods and persons from one point to another is becoming very cumbersome, if not hazardous.” The lawmaker recalled that it was in recognition of the fact that there is dire need for transformation of the Nigerian Railway system into a more dynamic and functional one, that the federal government had encouraged the use of rail to reduce road traffic congestion problems and open up the sector to private sector investment. Similarly, the Minister mentioned that the FG has approved the commencement of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail project & is also negotiating loans for Lagos-Calabar rail project. On the take-off of the Ibadan-Kano rail project, Amaechi informed that the government is still seeking approval for a loan to enable it take off. Speaking on the Lagos-Ibadan rail project, Amaechi noted that he has challenged Messrs. China Civil Engineering and Construction Company to deploy global acceptable safety and security standards for the project. He directed that a central cooling system be installed in all the major train stations along that route. In a related development President Buhari in February this year also approved the immediate completion of Mbalano Power Substation in Mbalano Isuikwuato, Abia state. The President gave directives to the minister of power to expedite the completion work in the Transmission Substation in the next few months. It can be recalled that the Chief Whip of the Senate Senator Orji Kalu in December last year (2020) led a high-powered delegation from the Federal Government to inspect abandoned power transmission projects in Abia-North Senatorial zone. See:https://m.guardian.ng/news/power-ministry-to-revive-three-abandoned-projects-in-abia/ The Federal Government’s team was led by the Honourable minister of Power Engr. Mamman Kwagyang Saleh followed by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Power; Chinyeaka Christian Ohaa, Managing Director Transmission Company of Nigeria; Engr Sule Ahmed and the Director of Transmission; Nosike Emmanuel as well as several other Directors and Engineers from the Ministry of power embarked on an inspection tour of the power transmission sites. In a bid to revitalise the projects abandoned for almost 20 years, Senator Kalu had earlier written to the Ministry of Power calling the attention of the Honourable Minister for Power, Engr. Mamman Saleh to the abandoned power transmission projects. The Minister of Power, Engr. Saleh Mamman, has assured that the three major power projects located in Abia North Senatorial District, Abia State, which have been abandoned for years, would be reactivated and completed in the first quarter of 2021. https://osunreporters.com/2021/03/fg-acts-on-sen-kalus-eastern-rail-motionsets-date-for-flag-off/

Politics / Just In!! Senator Kalu Urges Gov. Wike To Join APC by Handsomecole(m): 8:47pm On Feb 18, 2021 |
Chief Whip of the Senate and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on Thursday beckoned the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, to join the ruling All Progressive's Congress (APC). Senator Kalu made this call on Thursday while addressing the press after a project inspection tour around the state capital led the state Governor himself. While speaking to the press after inspecting the; Rumuokoro Flyover bridge, 2nd Artillery flyover bridge, Real Madrid football Academy and the Mother and Child Hospital, Rumuomasi in Port-Harcourt, Senator Kalu commended Gov. Wike for his efforts in investments in critical infrastructure; Kalu told the Rivers Governor to join the APC in order to consolidate on the rewards of belonging to the party at the centre. "I encourage and appeal to other Governors to emulate Governor Wike in terms of his infrastructural drive in the state , because this is what democracy is all about which is making the people happy by meeting up with their expectations. You see how visibly happy the people were when they sighted the Governor, I am impressed by the quality and quantity of infrastructures I have seen so far. The Governor has confirmed that there are about five flyovers in construction and three more have been approved for construction, said Kalu. Stressing the need to partner with the APC; Senator Kalu appealed to Governor Wike to soft pedal on his continuous criticisms of the party, he called on the Rivers Governor to work harmoniously with the APC led Federal Government of Nigeria. In his words" I urge the Governor to partner with the APC, I discussed with him all through the night to find a common ground with the APC, I believe that very soon it shall come to reality. I commend him for the tour; he is a man needed by us in the APC, it is my belief that a messiah can come from anywhere. So I urge Governor Wike to soft pedal on our party, humans can switch from one party to another which is human behavior in Africa. I appeal to him to partner with us so that the good people of Rivers can benefit more from the Federal Government of Nigeria. In his reaction; Wike noted that his party the People's Democratic Party is committed to the welfare of the people, he disclosed that his grievance with the APC is the custom of making appointments based on political interest rather than competence. He said "I can only partner with a party that is open to partnership, there's so much insecurity in Nigeria today and there have been a lot of killings so his party (APC ) should solve the problem but the problem has remained unresolved. Speaking further he said "His party appoints commissioners of police based on patronage, a politician from my state pays a visit to the Inspector General (IG) of Police and makes request for a New Commissioner; but the IG ends of making the appointment without considering the competence of such person to fight crime, he makes the appointment based on the choice of the ruling party. In that case the person is deployed but is unable to tackle crime that is the major problem we are having today in the country. So how can I partner with such a Government that makes appointments on the interest of a politician. Senator Kalu remains my friend that is why I invited him to come and see what we're doing in Rivers state. https://thewhisperer.ng/2021/02/18/senator-kalu-urges-wike-to-join-apc-to-move-nigeria-forward/

Politics / Orji Kalu’s Development Footprint In Abia North by Handsomecole(m): 8:44am On Feb 17, 2021 |
...Constituents hail Senate Chief Whip, say he’s best thing to happen to them By Henry Umahi When Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu was campaigning for the Abia North senatorial seat in 2019, he presented a pro-people manifesto and ran an exciting campaign never witnessed in the area. And having won, he is impressively living up to the promises he made to Abia North. As a senator, Kalu combines uncommon passion and energy in doing his work, leaving indelible marks in the hearts of his people. His representation at the Senate has witnessed unassailable momentum, resulting in profound dividends of democracy for his constituency within a short time. This is true to his culture of giving back to society, As someone put it, “those in doubt should draw up the comparative analysis between him and the previous ones in their 17 months in office. You will be shocked at how well he has represented the senatorial zone. Many had occupied that seat for a longer period with next to nothing to show for it in the lives of our people.” Good times Indeed, these are cheery times for the people of Abia North. And they have every cause to celebrate. They are celebrating Kalu’s achievements as their representative in the Senate in such a short time. Daily Sun was in Abia North last week and saw people who are counting their blessings for making the right choice in choosing their representative in the upper legislative chamber. The people of Abia North are excited that many of the dilapidated primary school classroom blocks in the five local government areas that make up the zone have been rehabilitated by Kalu to create a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning. They are also dancing for joy because of the empowerment programmes of the man they love to call OUK. Investigation revealed that Kalu has distributed generators, sewing machines, motorcycles and grinding machines, among others, to his constituents to make life less stressful for them. He has also facilitated the rehabilitation and construction of roads and drainages in his constituency. A retired headmaster in Ozu Abam, in Arochukwu Local Government Area, Ndem Onwuka, told the reporter: “We are very happy with the rehabilitation of some primary schools in our area because education is the cornerstone of human development; it’s the best investment you can make in the life of people. “When you make it possible for people to be properly educated, you have invested so much in their future. It’s like teaching them how to fish, instead of giving them fish. With the new structures we have, children will be happy to go to school and parents will be encouraged to send their children and wards to school. If children are learning under dilapidated structures, parents would be afraid that such structures could collapse on their children. In fact, we’ve never had it so good in recent times.” For 70-year-old Ogbonnaya Obike, a football coach from Umuogbe, Okoko Item, the chief whip of the Senate is a beloved son of Abia and they are proud of him. Obike told the reporter: “I cannot speak evil of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in any manner because he is a worthy son of Abia North senatorial district, Abia State and Nigeria. Let me start from the time he went to the House of Representatives, he took care of the people in many ways. He paid school fees for many children and did so many things to make life more meaningful for the people. “When he became governor of Abia State, he worked like someone who loved his people. He gave free education from primary school to secondary school. He built new roads and rehabilitated old ones. He opened up rural areas by creating new roads. “For instance, before the coming of Kalu as governor, it was a herculean task to go to Bende, our headquarters. We used to rigmarole through Umuahia and Ikwuano before getting to Bende. But when he came in as governor, he fixed the road and it became easy. So, from Item, you move through Igbere – Ozu Item and enter Bende. That made movement easy for the people of Abia North. Mind you, as governor, he distributed infrastructural development to every part of Abia State. Now as a senator, I will tell you, Kalu is representing us well. He is fulfilling the expectations of our people. Even before he was elected as a senator, he fixed some roads for us. As a senator, he started rehabilitating schools all over the local government areas in the zone. He has also fixed roads and drainages.” The coach, however, added that it’s not yet uhuru for them. “But Kalu should also know that there is hunger in the land. He should try to alleviate the suffering of the people in terms of hunger. Paying school fees for children is not easy, especially if you have three or more children in school at the same time. He should try to assist us in this regard. “Again, bandits are disturbing us round the clock. He should use his position to help us because bandits and herdsmen attack us on the major road. We pray to God to protect and guide him in his future endeavours. The worst hit in terms of banditry and insecurity is the Isuikwuato area,” he said. Mazi Kalu Odo, from Amekpu Ohafia, said that nothing less was expected from the chief whip of the Senate, considering his antecedents. He said: “Kalu has proven over the years that he is a man among men. He is a go-getter. Whether you like or despise Kalu or his style of politics, you cannot ignore him. He has uncommon passion to serve and the political sagacity to excel against all odds. “Indeed, Kalu could be dressed in the admirable robe of a leader in whom his people are well pleased. He is the best thing to happen to us as far as the National Assembly is concerned. “We are seeing the good things that Kalu is bringing to our area, particularly the newly rehabilitated schools, such as the Okpoke Primary School. It is a good thing for us because the importance of education cannot be overemphasized, especially when the environment is good for learning. All I can say is that he is trying and he shouldn’t relent in his efforts to give us a good life and a sense of belonging. He should not give up, even if there is opposition or obstacle. You know, there are people who may disagree with him due to political differences but that should not deter him from facilitating and executing the laudable projects in his heart. He is a man of the people and that is why we always support him. If you do not know, he is the Ikenga of Ohafia, which is a very big honour or recognition. We are very proud of him. “Having said this, there are other things we want him to do for us. As our brother and son, he knows those areas where we are lacking. So, he should help us in those areas. “There are bandits and herdsmen troubling people traveling from Umuahia to this area. People are afraid to travel on that route because you don’t know how your journey will end. So, he should help us in terms of providing security on that road. He should use his position to bring security to that area to safeguard life and property.” Kanayo Michael, who rides okada in Isuikwuato, said: “Orji Uzor Kalu is a wonderful man and I want to thank him for helping people over the years. He has helped many new mothers to offset their bills in hospital. We are also grateful that he is rehabilitating classroom blocks in all the zone and the empowerment programmes at Isuochi and Ahaba, Isuikwuato, through which many people were assisted. For this reason, I pray that God should continue to bless him and make a way for him even where there is no way. “Through his empowerment programme, many youths and women were given motorcycles, sewing machines and hair dryers for hairdressers, among other things. In fact, he really tried.” But Kanayo advised that the empowerment programme should be expanded. According to him, “Kalu should assist those who are strong enough to go into farming and poultry business. There are people who really know how to cultivate rice and do the necessary things but they do not have anybody to support or assist them. “That is why you see many young men riding motorcycles to eke out a living. It’s not as if all of us love to ride motorcycles; many are doing it because there is nothing else to do. “On my own side, there is something that, if it is done for me, many others would benefit from it. If the senator can empower me financially, there is enough land to plant cassava. I can teach people how to do the business and, in the next few months, the cassava will be turned to garri and sold. I’m doing the business but on a very low scale. So, people like us should be supported to do other things to help ourselves and the society. I believe that, if Kalu gets to hear my cry, he will help.” Uche Onwuchekwa, former chief press secretary to the former deputy governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, and political analyst from Igbere, Bende LGA, said: “I have never had any doubt about what Kalu could do. I have known him for some years and I know that he has a Midas touch. “Those you know can attest to Kalu’s performance as a governor. It is said that truth crushed to earth shall rise again. No matter what Kalu’s detractors may say, he is an outstanding performer. As a senator, he has not only surpassed people’s expectations, he would most certainly do more in the days ahead. I am aware of the renovation of schools and roads as well human capacity building and empowerment.” Onwuchekwa argued that, considering Kalu’s pedigree, he should throw his hat into the presidential ring in 2023. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, representing Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives argued that Kalu’s performance is beyond his “position as a senator but the web of contacts he had built over the years, his wealth of goodwill and burning desire to bring dividends of democracy to the people of Abia North.” “Instead of influencing the projects out of our zone on selfish grounds, he is insisting the electorate must experience the dividends of democracy from the present government of APC. He is doing well and we are following his footsteps. No wonder the APC, as a party, is the most beautiful bride in Abia State today. “Abia North has not seen anything yet. Watch out for more in the coming years. “Though we are very close and he raised me in politics, but I’m one of his worst critics and would have told him if he was not accomplishing much as promised. Therefore, on behalf of Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, who have mandated me during the last town hall meeting and have asked me to publicly commend him for a job so well done so far and to pledge my support for future accomplishments considering his marks all around Bende Federal Constituency, I hereby officially commend the senator representing Abia North senatorial zone, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, for changing the face of the zone within a short space of time in office despite the initial challenges.” Some of Kalu’s numerous interventions spread across the zone Rehabilitation of three blocks in Ndi Agwu Abam Primary School, Okweji Memorial School Ozu-Abam, Agbagwu Primary School, Aro Town in Arochukwu Local Government Area; Rehabilitation of two blocks in Ugwuafia Primary School, Kpoke Primary School in Ohafia LGA; Rehabilitation of two blocks at Otamkpa Community School, Ahaba, Imenyi Community School in Isiukwuato LGA; Rehabilitation of two blocks at Umuelem Central School, Isuochi; Eziama Community School, Nneato, in Umunneochi LGA; Rehabilitation of three blocks at Ozutem Central School, Okafia Primary School and Item Central School, Okoko, in Bende LGA Abia. Kenneth Udeh Few months after meeting with Abia-North Senator and Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate Senator Orji Uzor Kalu the former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika today joined the All Progressive’s Congress (APC). General Ihejirika who served at the helm of the service from 2010-2014 under former President Goodluck Jonathan, made his declaration to join the APC at Isuikwuato country home in Abia-North Senatorial district. The former COAS made his declaration and subsequently registered at Ezere ward 2, his registration was conducted by the APC ward Chairman Mr. Iheanyi Chukwu in the presence of stalwarts of the party which include: Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, State Secretary of the party, Barr. Perfect Okorie; Deputy State Women leader of the party, Lady Franca Osuwa; Chairman Abia APC Registration panel, Amb. Bala Mohammed Mairiga; Chief Ameobi Ogah; Dr. Lilian Obenwa; Abia-North APC Zonal Chairman, Chief Chris Ajah; Member Abia House of Assembly representing Isuikwuato constituency Hon Barr. Emeka Okorofor, party faithfuls and others. Recall that in November last year the Senate Chief Whip and All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Abia State, Senator Orji Kalu urged the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), to join the party. Kalu made the move when he paid a private visit to the former COAS in his Isuikwuato country home. According to reports Kalu’s earlier visit to the residence of Ihejirika and other prominent Abians was to further push the efforts of the party in the state and national to woo prominent Abians and indeed the Southerners into the party. In his remarks, Senator Kalu applauded the decision of the former COAS to join the party, Kalu emphasised that Ihejirika’s decision is a result of the internal democracy in APC. In his words “Gen Ihejirika’s decision to join us today in the APC is no doubt a great one and I must commend him for taking the bold step after over a year of convincing him to join the party. “He should be assured that his membership of our party will be a very fruitful one. I am loyal to the party; this is why I have always subjected myself to the party’s decision-making process. “My appreciation also goes to the chairman Abia APC Registration panel, Amb. Bala Mohammed Mairiga and his team joined me to grace this exercise. “The chairman can see for himself that the APC in Abia is deeply rooted, in the last few days he has accompanied me to some decamping ceremonies of people from other parties into our party. On behalf of our national chairman Gov. Buni I welcome you to our great party. Disclosing his reasons for joining the party, General Ihejirika said that he’s coming into politics by joining the APC is to contribute to the progress of the party in the state and national level, the former COAS said further that having served in the Army for almost 38 years he has gathered sufficient experience to contribute to the democracy of the nation and the fortunes of the party. In his words ” I am delighted by the presence of the leader of the party in our state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to honour this event. Having served almost 38 years in the military, I am convinced that it will be a waste of experience for me to remain outside government activities. "This is because I have a lot to offer and assure you all that I will operate an open-door policy, I will also learn fast. Gen Ihejirika said that his first goal is to unite the party, he said” My first goal is to unite the party, unity is very important because if we are united we can achieve all our goals for the state and the nation at large , he concluded. Also recall that similar advances by Senator Kalu had yielded results as the moves saw the founder of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and United Peoples Party (UPP), Chekwas Okorie; former Governorship candidate of the APGA in 2015 and 2019, Dr. Alex Otti; former Governorship Candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP),Chief Emeka Atuma; former Commissioner for finance in Abia State, Obinna Oriaku and among others have joined the party in the state. Politics / Your Retrial Is A Pathway To Your Political Greatness, Cleric To Sen Orji Kalu by Handsomecole(m): 2:53pm On Feb 07, 2021 |
The Senior Pastor of Will of God Evangelical Ministry Lagos, Pastor Smart Emiyan has urged Senator Orji Uzor Kalu not to relent in discharging his duty as a major political stakeholder in Nigeria. Pastor Emiyan stated this while reacting to the ‘politically motivated’ retrial of the Senate Chief Whip and former Governor of Abia State. In a Sunday Sermon monitored by the press, titled ‘Light at the end of the tunnel’; the cleric told Senator Kalu not to be distracted by enemies of progress, stating that his retrial would propel him to greater political height. “Senator Kalu should be proud of himself because his people and those he is representing loves him so much; He should be happy because he has exceptional grace from God ; I have had an encounter with lots of them from Abia and they told me Senator Kalu has done well as a Senator; even when he was a governor, he did very well. “If the people you represent loves you, God cannot abandon you. At the end of the tunnel, surely, there would be light. “On this alter, I am calling on him not to give up. Continue doing the great things you are known for; your political elevation is waiting for you at the end of this politically motivated trial. You will sit on that exalted seat . “Also forgive those who instigated this evil against you, for their day of judgement is near” He further compared the trial of Senator Kalu to the Biblical Joseph “We all go through different trial and seasons in our lives whether it be financially, physically (being sick), etc. but there is a promise that God gives us that I would like to share with you; He does not abandon His own. Senator Kalu, you’re not alone! “We have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. “Jesus Himself said "Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:10).” The Man of God further urged the former Governor to be proud of himself because he has touched many lives positively and that his legacies are so glaring for all to see. https://osunreporters.com/2021/02/your-retrial-is-a-pathway-to-your-political-greatness-cleric-to-sen-orji-kalu/ 1 Like

Politics / Southeast Group Condemns Kalu’s Retrial, Exposes Plot To Deny Zone Presidency by Handsomecole(m): 7:51am On Feb 03, 2021 |
A foremost Southeast democracy advocacy group has condemned the retrial of former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. Kalu was re-arraigned on Tuesday at a Federal High Court in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), despite the verdict of the apex court which nullified the trial. The group known as Southeast Patrons for Good Governance (SPGG) said the development was a clear attempt to cripple the chances of the South East producing the next President of the country in 2023. SPGG, while expressing disappointment, said Senator Kalu's re-arraignment was unwarranted “because it is clear the former Governor was innocent of all the allegations.” Led by the convener, Chief Justin Chukwuka, the group said the nation's judiciary is being used as a tool to carry out selective justice. Chief Chukwuka in a statement he personally signed, on behalf of the group, insisted that the retrial was a grand plot by some forces with vested interests in 2023 Presidential election to whittle down the soaring influence of Senator Kalu in the nation. He said, “It is worrisome because we see how countless individuals with hard evidences of corruption walk freely, hold public offices and even speak at public events.” Chief Chukwuka said it was more worrisome because it's clear to all that the Genesis of Senator Kalu's case was as a result of political disagreement when he defended the nation's constitution by not fighting the third term agenda of former President Olusegun Obsanjo. “For instance, a former Lagos State Governor and leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, is alleged to have connived with his cronnies to loot the coffers of Lagos state to the tune of N300billion. “Implicating documents were published how his Tax consulting firm called Alpha Beta Consulting LLP, used same with his fronts to loot and launder the said amount N300billion. “Till date his proteges and beneficiaries of his alleged corruption proceeds head major public offices across the country, yet there has been no attempt to prosecute Mr. Tinubu or any of his cronies before a court of competent jurisdiction. His case is just one of so many others, yet Senator Orji Kalu has remained their only target till date since 2007. “We have studied with keen interest the recent developments in our nation most especially on the political angle, and we have discovered the converted plot to further destabilise the Igbo nation. “While we are still lamenting our exclusion from the list of newly appointed security Chiefs in the nation, we were greeted with the news of the re-arraignment of our illustrious son Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. “As a group speaking on behalf of well meaning Southeasteners and Nigerians at large we condemn in absolute totality his retrial before the Federal High Court, our reasons are not far fetched because it's nothing but a clear attempt to not just silence Senator Orji Uzor Kalu's rising profile but to also further suppress the Igbo nation. “It is unfortunate because there are countless personalities with questionable wealth but are walking freely majority of them are even holding offices in this administration yet they have not for once been arraigned. Why must it always be Senator Orji Uzor Kalu? “Senator Orji Uzor Kalu became a billionaire long before he got into office as Governor, his travails can be traced to his disagreement with fomer President over third term agenda. Besides, Senator Kalu's rising profile and sterling performance at the Senate has made him a potential Presidential candidate for 2023, this has however made him an imaginary stumbling block to some interests. “We ask why must the Igbos continue to be made sacrificial lamb? Only recently President Muhammadu Buhari excluded Igbos in the appointment of the new Service Chiefs, there have also been several appointments no single Igbo man or woman was chosen, yet the very few Igbo leaders remaining are prosecuted. “The Federal Government should beware that the seed of destruction which they are sowing will definitely boomerang and it would difficult for them to withstand it's ripple effects. “We would also like to remind the Federal Government and Nigerians that Senator Kalu made his wealth legitimately; this was further proven when he was listed by Forbes till date as the only politician among Billionaires in Africa. We also remind that Senator Kalu has contributed immensely to the development of this country with his massive investments in both the North and South and has so far engaged over 16,000 workers. “We state categorically that the Igbos are solidly behind Senator Orji Uzor Kalu; since his assumption into office as a Senator despite being a first time Senator asides his legislative duty Senator Kalu has facilited 19 road projects, reconstructed over 15 schools, constructed boreholes these are in addition to his skills and agricultural empowerment within his Senatorial district,” the statement concluded. #POLITICS https://www.independent.ng/southeast-group-condemns-kalus-retrial-exposes-plot-to-deny-zoning-presidency/

That mansion was built and commissioned before even got into any public office long before he even thought of becoming a Governor... Man was made before going into politics; besides he's converting it to a resort still for business. You should be asking how did he do it ?? But your covenant with poverty won't allow you. |
