MXrep:

You be real Ode. So going to Lagos is civilization? I thought it's a sign of people's land being unproductive? Confused mugu. What do we need Lagos for in those days? The British were already here since 1840s and Onitsha was thriving with a British River port. The only thing that brought us to Lagos was almagamation, that was when Lagos had advantage as capital and people moved there. And we arrive before yorubas (apart from indegenous villagers)
From data below, Igbos started migrating to Lagos in 1911 (Aro Confederacy which controlled Igboland was defeated by British in 1902) while yorubas started migrating to Lagos in 1931.
You must be daft by using migration to Lagos as a yardstick for civilization. Do you think Lagos was better than places like Calabar and Onitsha before the amalgamation?

The same Lagos that Yorubas exported slaves from for hundreds of years is what they migrated to in 1931?

Or the same coastal city from which they imported weapons for the Yoruba wars?

🤣

Also you compare Lagos to Calabar or Onitsha?
🤣

You should start comedy!

You realise Lagos alone, was made a Colony.
For Britain to think it worthy of being a stand alone entity shows it was not a jungle like you so desperately claim.

This is Olaiya house, built in 1855.
There were also many buildings like this in that Lagos.

Mind you the British came after.

...and they only took Lagos after a Naval bombardment with Warships.

You only use that much firepower when your enemy is worthy.

There must havr been others who didn't write, so...?

How can you then claim he was the first person of Nigerian extraction to be educated?

The fact still remains
SE has more medical Students Spread across all the medical schools in Nigeria...

And you saying is because of overbloated because of overadmission (beyond quota) by SE med Sch..
Shows how ignorantt and naive you are when it comes to the strict regulations around intake and grad from medical schools by the regulatory bodies..

Moreover, if is easy to overbloated the North would've done that since...

Please accept it in good faith data is data the south east region is leading.. Commend the south east education system for a job well done

South West students should leave OAU and UI medical schools go to other regions to school... Also your government should work on reducing the number of out school children in region...

Peace ✌️

Oga, no Yoruba is willing to go to the East for University.

I personally only know one Yoruba Dr that finished from UNN... and I know lots lf Drs.

Yorubas, however, particularly the Muslims are willing to go up North.
I repeat, asides UNN, there are no other reputable Universities in the East, so why will any sane person leave an OAU or UI or Covenant or ABUAD for there?

Don't you get it?

They would rather go to ABU or UNIMAID or UDUS

Also, so you know, medical education in the East is generally inferior to the South West.

I know people who have complained of not being able to do basic tests when they trained there.
Even the Teaching Hospitals dod not have CT Scans...
( I am not willing to give you screenshots from a private group I belong to, to prove this).

So what are they teaching.

Besides, how can Imo state with few medical (and deficient) medical schools admit more medical students than states with more and better established medical schools.

is not a matter of crying here on nairaland, SE dominates all their 5 states and still have maximum metit in all federal universities and private universities in Nigeria. As I said, UNILAG, OAU etc has at least 15 to 30% of their students from SE. This is under Merit list meaning the 15to 20% top scorers of admitted students. As you say, no other proper universities aside of UNN, okay, that said, they will definitely rule your states where there are proper universities.may be that's while the three premier universities and institutions : Yaba tech, unilag, ui are all pioneered by Igbo vc’s,

Presently, covenant university se population would soon be more than the people of that region. There are more higher institutions in sw but Igbos are trouping there and soon will. …,,,,?

The difference here is that the Igbos are 97% in charge in their region due to high competition and they are taken seizable percentage in every other region esp sw and ss. They reduced that of the ne and nw due to banditry and are strong in nc.

Other true federalism and merit, 40% of SW universities and 80% northern uni would have been of SE ORIGIN.

Stop digging up imagined stats from your lala land.

The reason Igbos 'dominate' your region is because nobody wants to come there.

Simple.

Also, it seems nobody can win with you guys.
If they do not allow you somewhere else based on merit, you scream nepotism.

When they allow you, you brag about how you are going to dominate others.

That's under merit for SE students admission in sw schools. While she universities are highly competitive with more qualified students, they tend to look for admission in sw and northern universities where they are able to be admitted under merit. Their sw counter rarely apply se universities because of fear of competition. Remember those Sch you mentioned are federal and private uni. The day sw uni will open up on merit, they will see influx of se students dominating in their state universities. Igbos are naturally born to take advantage of their opportunities with both hands.

All you have written is based on hearsay.
I know UNN, like OAU, admits a lot of medical students, but use the 2nd MB exams to weed the number to those who truly deserve to study medicine and surgery. Also, standards were also very high back then when I was at UNN as I knew some medical students who had to change to other courses of study as they could not pass the 2nd MB exams, even though they had parents who were lecturers in the Medical faculty.
So what you are saying about getting admitted with a score of 200 to study medicine at UNN is an absolute fallacy.
UNN graduates call themselves Lions and Lionesses because they know the worth of certificates they were awarded and this cannot be rubbished by unsubstantiated allegations of tale bearers.

In FMC abakaliki, Ebonyi state where I work, the number of medical students exceeds 300. I mean one level(like 300L). Now 99% of the students are actually igbos.

My neighbor, a nursing student, their class is well over 500 (just 4th year). I once helped my landlord to do exam invigilation of law students, 100L. It took 3 big halls to continue them. 98% igbos.
