The SANDF is looking at the possibility of acquiring 6 units of Denel T5-45 Howitzers An overview of the Howitzer. Denel Land Systems (DLS) took the opportunity to demonstrate its truck- mounted 155 mm T5-52 artillery system during an event held at South Africa's Overberg Test Range in April. The company wanted to highlight the system's superior range when firing rocket-assisted projectiles (54.8 km at sea level), rate of fire (six rounds in the first minute, with a sustained rate of fire of 2 per minute), and its ability to fire six rounds that land simultaneously on the same target. The gun can also be elevated from 3° to +72°, allowing it to be used in the direct fire role: a capability that was demonstrated when it put two rounds into the same impact point at 1,000 m. The T5-52 system essentially comprises the DLS 155 mm/52-calibre gun mounted on an 8x8 Tatra truck, with a gross system weight of around 38 tonnes. Its 300 kW turbo-charged diesel gives it a speed of 85 km/h, while the road and cross-country ranges are 600 km and 300 km, respectively. The vehicle with the gun mounted is 10.1 m long, 2.9 m wide, and 3.48 m high. It has a ground clearance of 41 cm and can ford to a depth of 1.4 m. The 40% gradient and approach and departure angles of 32° and 39° give adequate mobility off-road for an artillery system. The system carries complete rounds in a container behind the cab so they are adjacent to the breech of the rearward- firing gun. The vehicle is stabilised by hydraulic jacks, with the hydraulic power for them and the other systems being taken from the truck or another vehicle if necessary. The crew comprises four on-mount and two ammunition handlers off-mount when additional ammunition is used. The time into and out of action is 60 seconds, and loading is assisted by a semi-automatic rammer, automatic primer loading, and an optional three- round magazine and three-round crane . The system is offered with a completely integrated command and fire-control and communications system, and can be supplied with the related observation, meteorological, and other equipment. It fires the full range of ballistically matched ammunition using base-bleed units that can be fitted in the field and a modular charge system with combustible cases. 3 Likes

**OFF-TOPIC It seems the U.S is in support of the coup, John Kerry just released a statement. He isn't condemning the coup, neither was there any word on democracy. *** Reports claim Erdogan has fled the country in his private jet. Reports also claim military attack helicopters engage police units and Turkish Interior ministry.

5 units of Nigerian Air Force indigenously built Gulma Drones are operational according to the CAS. "The CAS(Air Mshl Abubakar) stated that the NAF is in a position to partner with NIS for its UAV operation since the NAF has successfully designed and produced 5 versions of the GULMA UAV, as well as been able to operationalise them through collaboration with UAVision of Portugal."

AN/ALE-50 Towed Decoy System Critical end-game countermeasure proven to defeat enemy missile attacks. The ALE-50 program, a joint development venture by a U.S. Air Force/Navy/Raytheon integrated product team, demonstrates a highly successful multi-service approach to ECM system commonality. The ALE-50 towed decoy acts as a preferential target that lures enemy missiles away by providing a much larger radar cross section than the aircraft. The protection it provides to aircraft and aircrews makes the ALE-50 one of the most important end-game electronic countermeasures available today. More than 25,000 decoys have been delivered. The ALE-50 towed decoy has provided combat-proven aircraft protection against RF missile threats in Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Featuring low acquisition and life-cycle cost, the system adaptability enables installation and operation on virtually any airborne platform. The ALE-50 towed decoy is currently operational on the F-16, F/A-18E/F, and B-1B aircraft. Raytheon can also provide fiber-optic towed decoys, including high-power variants, to protect both tactical and large aircraft. A reel- out reel-in magazine enabling decoy reuse is also in development. http://www.raytheon.com/capabilities/ products/apg79aesa/

nemesis2u: On the JF-17, i've always been a staunch supporter of Nigeria's quest to get the JF-17. It's a modern, very potent aircraft that comes in at a price which is 1/3 the amount of it's competitors. It was never designed to compete with likes of the Super-Hornet or the F-16V , it's an aircraft that delivers on the money. We would take in our initial deliveries of the JF-17 this year, and work our way up to the Block III variant. - We are currently doing your point 1&2. Infrastructure is being built and expanded. We also maintain a strong relationship with the Pakistani military, especially the Air Force and SSG. The Nigerian Air Force currently has 500 pilots carrying varying degrees of trainings as we speak. I can't wait to see a full spectrum JF-17 in NAF service. |

nemesis2u: You gotta give it to the Americans though, they sure have mastered aircraft avionics. The Indians try to combine western and Eastern tech. The SU-30MKI is a perfect example a Russian SU-30 with French and Israeli systems. For long periods of time, the SU-30MKI was the world's most advanced SU-30 anywhere, until the SU-30SM. Yeah, exactly, the Algerians have been pretty smart, win-win for them. I saw that also, we do not have the resources at the disposal of the Algerians, so we can only channel our energy into building a capable patrol and littoral warfare fleet. 1 Like |

Politics / Re: Nigeria Exports Religion, India Exports Cars by Henry24o: 6:17am On Jul 14, 2016 |
nemesis2u: My response to the article and the O.P was simply to destroy a poorly thought out argument which is intended to portray Nigeria from the word, go, in a bad-light and not to compare with India. No matter the challenges we have in Nigeria, we still have made tremendous progress since independence. When the British left Nigeria in 1960, only 5% of the entire population of Nigeria at that time was educated, today the figure shows over 68% of Nigerians receiving at-least a secondary school education. If this isn't progress, then i simply do not know what progress is. The author intends to destroy the image of Nigeria while looking good in his folly. The Article's headline claims Nigeria only exports religion while India exports cars, from the sources and photos i've provided, the Authors claim has been proven to be a life. We don't only export Cars, we also export Vessels and parts thereof. |
