Health / 7 Habits That Can Affect Your Longevity If You Do Them Twice A Day by henrynwafor(m): 6:36am On Nov 12, 2019
If you want to live a long life, it's important to be aware of what you're doing each day. Because according to science, prolonging your life is

more than just eating right and getting some exercise. There are things you may be doing each day that may be shortening your life without

you realizing it. But luckily, once you're aware of them, you can tweak your routine.

"Bad habits overtime can take a toll on your body," Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, family and emergency doctor, tells Bustle. For instance, drinking

too much can affect your heart and liver, and not getting enough sleep can lower your immunity, and lead to other long-term health issues.

Because of that, it's important to be mindful of the things we do in our daily lives. You never know how one seemingly harmless behavior can

affect your life if done constantly over a long period of time.

"Practicing mindfulness towards your actions allows you to become more in tune with yourself," Dr. David Greuner of NYC Surgical

Associates, tells Bustle. "When there is a negative habit, you first need to realize its existence, monitor the occurrences, and then work to

overcome it. Once you start to acknowledge your habits, good or bad, you learn to grow."

If you're looking to prolong your life, being aware of the harmful things you're doing each day is a great place to start. If you do the following

things more than twice a day, science says, you may impacting your longevity.

1. Smoke

Ashley Batz/Bustle

A 2013 study published in The New England Journal of Medicine found that smoking can decrease your life span by at least 10 years.

"Smoking by far, can lead to premature death," Dr. Nesheiwat says. It can lead to a number of things like heart disease, stroke, and high

blood pressure. It can also lead to multiple forms of cancer including bladder cancer, lung cancer, kidney cancer, and throat cancer.

According to the 2013 study, adults who managed to quit smoking were able to add six to 10 years to their life compared to those who continued the habit.
2. Drink Alcohol

Andrew Zaeh for Bustle

"Drinking more than two alcoholic drinks per day can also contribute to an increased risk of early death due to its connection to liver,

pancreatic, and heart diseases," Dr. Seema Sarin of EHE Health, tells Bustle. In fact, a 2018 study found that people who drank more than

100g of alcohol every week were at an increased risk for premature death. You don't have to give up alcohol completely to live a long life. But just be aware of how much you're drinking. The key here is moderation.

3. Commute

Andrew Zaeh for Bustle

There are a number of things we do each day that we can't really avoid. Commuting and sitting for long periods of time are just two

examples of that. "All of the inactivity and non-movement becomes obstructive on your body," Dr. Gruener says. A 2012 study published in

the Journal of Urban Health found that commuting for more than one hour each day can increase stress and cause you to have the same

adverse effects as prolonged sitting. People who had commutes that lasted longer than two hours were also less likely to engage in healthy activities like exercise. Stress, sitting for a long time, and a lack of exercise are things to be aware of.

4. Watch An Hour Of TV

Ashley Batz/Bustle

"While there’s no denying that Netflix has addictive qualities, watching your favorite show more than twice a day can have adverse effects on

your life expectancy," Nate Masterson, CMO and certified health expert for Maple Holistics, tells Bustle. "This is largely due to the fact that

[continued streaming] can lead to poor sleep quality and fatigue." Harvard researchers found that watching just two hours of TV a day can

lead to an increased risk or premature death and heart disease, while a University of Queensland study found that "every single hour of

television watched after the age of 25 reduces the viewer’s life expectancy by 21.8 minutes."
5. Forget To Wash Your Hands

Ashley Batz/Bustle

"A tale as old as time, you have to wash your hands before you eat," Dr. Gruener says. "When you don't, you're letting your body become

open to millions of bacteria and possible diseases." According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, washing your hands can

save lives. As they found, handwashing can prevent about 30 percent of diarrhea-related sickness and 20 percent of respiratory infections. This is especially important because some germs are resistant to antibiotics. Because of that, doctors can have a hard time treating

someone who gets sick.
6. Say "No" To Socializing With Co-Workers

Ashley Batz/Bustle

Turning down your co-worker's efforts to chit chat throughout the day can make you a more productive employee. But it can also have a way of shortening your lifespan. A 2011 study published in the journal Health Psychology studied adults who worked an average of eight hours a day over the span of 20 years. As researchers found, people who had "low social support" at work were 2.4 times more likely to die during that 20 year period than those who felt like they had an emotional support system at work. Having strong connections with others is essential to having a healthy life. As studies have found, loneliness can lead to premature death. Since you spend most of your days at work, it's important to have positive relationships with the people you work with.
7. Worry

Ashley Batz/Bustle

While it's completely normal to worry every now and then, constantly living in a state of anxiety can be harmful to your health. A 2012 study

published in the journal BMJ found links between mild anxiety and a shorter lifespan. Researchers took information from a survey of 68,000

adults who talked about their health and feelings of wellness. People who said they were "mildly distressed" were 29 percent more likely to

die early of heart disease or stroke. Researchers concluded that even low levels of depression and anxiety can be risk factors for

cardiovascular diseases.

So these are just a few things that are known to shorten lifespan if done more than twice a day. If you're mindful of these things and make an effort to stay healthy, you can increase your chances of living a long happy life.source:https://www.ligitnews.com/post/7-habits-that-can-affect-your-longevity-if-you-do-them-twice-a-day

Prof. Solo Chukwubelu, secretary to the Anambra state government,

who spoke on behalf of Governor Willie Obiano at an Anglican Prayer rally in the capital,

said evil spirits have made the government house in Awka their abode.

He did not indicate which rooms they occupy, but pleaded with Bishop of Ogbaru, Rev. Prosper Amah, who presided over the Prayer Rally to pray for the ejection of the evil spirits permanently,

to allow government focus in providing service to the people.“In the government House,

the evil spirits come and go. We urge the church to pray hard to let them leave the government for good” Chukwubelu said. The prayer rally with the theme “The Righteous shall Flourish like Palm Tree”, was held at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, under the auspices of the Province of the Niger, Anglican Prayer Rally of Anambra State (APRAS) 2019. Rev. Amah,

in his sermon had said there are evil spirits in the society and also in the Government House,

that come and go. However, the Archbishop, Province of Niger and Bishop, Dioceses of Awka, the Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim, put the evil spirits in human garb and declared that the evil spirits in the Government House are actually human beings. He urged the governor to deal decisively with them to leave the State House. “The government should fight evil spirits in the State house,

while the church will fight those outside the Government House,” he said.See the people reactions:https://www.ligitnews.com/post/evil-spirits-have-made-the-government-house-in-anambra-state-their-abode---governor-obiano

WHY I CANNOT DESCRIBE GENERAL YAKUBU GOWON AS A HERO

When the real history of the country is written the role of General Yakubu Gowon and the other Nigerian commanders during the civil war will be put in proper perspective. The slaughter of 3 million Biafran civilians in that war is the greatest act of black on black genocide in human history.

I cannot celebrate the birth of a man who presided over such carnage and neither can I describe him as a hero. Nigeria cannot make much progress or truly prosper until she apologises to the Igbo and Biafrans for the great evil that we visited upon them duing the civil war.

The waging of war is different to the mass murder of civilians. The former is lawful, the latter is not. War between two armies is legitimate but the targetting and slaughtering of innocent and defenceless men, women and children is a violation of international law and a crime against humanity.

Worse still such savagery and barbarity is simply unacceptable in a society or nation that lays claim to being rational, reasonable, decent, benign and civilised.

The truth is that those that were directly involved in the carnage have innocent blood on their hands and that blood cries to God in heaven for vengeance and justice.

We as a nation would do well to learn from others and muster the decency and courage to apologise and make reparations to the people of the South East for the abominable cruelty and wickedness that we visited on them in the name of the Nigerian civil war.

Crime / Stolen UK, US Banks’ Credit Card Among Evidence Allegedly Found In Naira Marley' by henrynwafor(m): 7:29pm On Oct 23, 2019
At the resumed trial of Naira Marley over an alleged credit card fraud at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos today October 23, the Economic and Financial Crimes tendered evidence they found in Naira Marley's laptop after his arrest which includes stolen credit card information issued by European, American and Latin American banks.

The credit card information reportedly belonged to four persons in the United Kingdom (UK) including one Nicole Louise. EFCC's forensics expert, Mr Nuru Buhari who testified in court said the top five most visited sites on the laptop dealt on buying and selling of stolen credit card information. He also revealed that a file named select BIN 101.txt and .txt. had stolen credit card information with special status that allows transaction up-to $12,000 without a pin or physical card.

“During analysis, the cache file and history file revealed that the most frequently visited sites by the user of the computer includes arder007.org, Zuni.sa, nationwidecheckbalance.co.uk, ferunshop.net AMD cocoa.co.uk.”

“Analysis of the websites revealed that web 1 is where stolen card information is sold to intending fraudsters, web 2 is for stolen credit cards specifically for the UK, web 3 is an online website designed for UK card holders to check their balance wherever they are around the world, web 4 is a dark web meaning an underground tunnel in the internet where stolen credit card information are sold and traded, web 5 is an online shopping mall where members are given discounts for shopping from certain shops.

“For the note file, two major files were discovered named .txt which contained about four credit card information belonging to four different personalities in the UK including one Nicole Louise.

“The second file is named selected BIN101.txt containing Bank Identification Number of European, American and Latin American banks.

“When we ran the BIN code search for the first six digits of the cards, it revealed they are Visa cards issued by Barclay’s bank, Sandander UK plc" he said.

Buhari further disclosed that his team was able to identify “certain banks in the US, Europe and Asia with certain peculiarities, these are banks that they issue credit cards without pins based on the high level of trust, they allow a transaction of up to $12,000 in a swipe on pos.

“Cards issued by those banks are card not required. All you need to execute a transaction is the card number and the Security number. ”

Buhari also told Justice Oweibo that suspicious apps that are mostly used by people with shady deals on the internet were found in the laptop.

He said: “We analysed installed apps on the laptop and we found two apps that enables the owner of the computer to decide the server of a bank as to his identity and location, IP VANISH and TOR browser.

“The TOR browser is sometimes called the onion. Most of the criminals cover their tracks with various layers just like an onion using this app to make it near impossible for a tracker to track their location.

“The IP VANISH is a virtual private network (VPN) which provides that the actual computer and location of usage cannot be identified. It also gives the user the ability to change their location.”

The Nation reported that the court also heard how Naira Marley's iCloud account is connected to administrator account on the laptop.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo adjourned the case till Friday October 25 for cross examination of EFCC's witness, as Naira Marley's counsel Olalekan Ojo requested for a survey of the Apple Mac book Pro laptop, an iPhone allegedly confiscated from the defendant and the forensic laboratory report prepared by Mr Buhari.Source:https://www.ligitnews.com/post/Stolen-UK-US-banks-credit-card-among-evidence-allegedly-found-in-Naira-Marleys-laptop

New York real estate may be plummeting, but there's one spot in Greenwich Village where space remains at a premium: Dante, a 104-year-old hostelry that's just been voted top of the World's 50 Best Bar list for 2019.

The historic bar, which originally opened as Caffe Dante in 1915, has been a hot ticket since it was reopened in 2015 by its current owners, Australians Linden Pride and Natalie Hudson, along with creative director Naren Young.

North London's Roundhouse, a Victorian railway shed turned arts venue, was filled to the rafters Thursday night with the creative forces behind the world's greatest bars, with the winning 50 representing 26 cities across 21 countries.

White tiles serve as the perfect backdrop for Negronis at Dante.

"We could not be more honored to be named #1 World's Best Bar at the most prestigious of awards ceremony here in London," Linden Pride, owner of Dante, told CNN Travel. "We will continue to focus on our approach to hospitality and creating those special moments for every guest that comes through our door."

Dante serves up Negronis, martinis and all manner of spritzes in a convivial white-tiled space, along with the kind of Italian specialties we've come to expect -- burrata, ricotta, focaccia, salumi, lasagna, meatballs -- all with a contemporary presentation and feel.

It's one of six New York bars on the 2019 list, with The NoMad (No.4) and Attaboy (No.7) both appearing in the Top 10. Masa Urushido's Katana Kitten, a Japanese-style bar in the West Village, helmed by Masa Urushido, was awarded Best New Opening.

The UK was also well represented, with 10 bars on this year's list. Venerable institutions The Connaught (No.2) and The Savoy (No. 5) were the highest placed, while the more modern Three Sheets -- a stripped-down East London venue with a simple three-part menu divided by strength and flavor -- has been making waves in its three years since opening.

Art Deco-inspired Atlas was Asia's highest-rated bar.

From Atlas

There were a record 17 new entries in this year's list, with Peru's Carnaval the Highest New Entry of all. Loud cheering and chants of "Ole Ole!" broke out in the room for Florería Atlántico in Buenos Aires, which was No.3 on the list, rising an impressive 11 places.

But the highest climber of all was Madrid's Salmon Guru -- it swam upstream 28 places, to 19th place.

Singapore led the way in Asia, with six entries in all, including Atlas, named Best Bar in Asia.

Hong Kong's The Old Man -- which has cocktails inspired by American author Ernest Hemingway -- and its Singaporean offshoot both had good showings as well.

Foreign Affairs / Re: House Democrats Subpoena White House For Ukraine Documents, Escalating Impeachme by henrynwafor(m): 8:13am On Oct 05, 2019

Foreign Affairs / House Democrats Subpoena White House For Ukraine Documents, Escalating Impeachme by henrynwafor(m): 8:12am On Oct 05, 2019
House Democrats on Friday issued a subpoena to the White House for documents related to Ukraine, ratcheting up the Democratic impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.

The subpoena came after the three committees leading the impeachment inquiry separately sent a letter Friday seeking documents from Vice President Mike Pence as part of their investigation into Trump and his conversation with the President of Ukraine.

The subpoena from House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings to the White House includes a request for a host of documents and communications tied to the President's July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the holding up of foreign aid to Ukraine and efforts by Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and his associates to push the Ukrainians to investigate Vice President Joe Biden and Burisma, the company that hired Hunter Biden's son Hunter Biden to be on its board, according to a memo Cummings sent on the subpoena earlier this week.

"We deeply regret that President Trump has put us — and the nation — in this position, but his actions have left us with no choice but to issue this subpoena," Cummings of Maryland, House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff of California and House Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel of New York wrote in a letter to the White House on Friday.

The subpoena escalates the Democratic impeachment investigation, which stems from the whistleblower complaint alleging Trump sought help from Ukraine's government to dig up dirt on his political rival and the White House sought to cover it up. The three panels leading the probe have already issued subpoenas to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Giuliani, in addition to Friday's White House subpoena.

The White House downplayed the subpoena.

"This subpoena changes nothing -- just more document requests, wasted time, and taxpayer dollars that will ultimately show the President did nothing wrong," press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement. "The Do Nothing Democrats can continue with their kangaroo court while the President and his Administration will continue to work on behalf of the American people."

The request for documents to Pence, meanwhile, adds the vice president to a growing list of Trump officials and allies from who Democrats are seeking documents as part of the impeachment inquiry.

The three chairmen leading the probe wrote a letter to Pence on Friday requesting the documents by October 15. A subpoena could also be looming for Pence if he does not voluntarily provide the documents.

Rather than traveling to Warsaw, Poland, last month to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump decided to stay home to track the damage from Hurricane Dorian. In his place he sent Pence, whose face-to-face meeting with Zelensky now puts him at the heart of events that led to the impeachment inquiry by the House of Representatives.

The Democratic impeachment investigation stems from the whistleblower complaint alleging Trump sought help from Ukraine's government to dig up dirt on his political rival and the White House tried to cover it up.

House Democrats have set an aggressive schedule of depositions to go along with their document requests as they have prepared to potentially file articles of impeachment related to Ukraine, putting the other matters they were investigating involving the President -- from Russian election interference to the Emoluments clause of the Constitution -- to the side.

The vice president's spokesman said that the Democrats letter "does not appear to be a serious request."

"Given the scope, it does not appear to be a serious request but just another attempt by the Do Nothing Democrats to call attention to their partisan impeachment," Pence spokeswoman Katie Waldman said in a statement. "Despite their efforts to distract and obstruct our agenda, this Administration will stay focused on creating jobs, securing the border, rebuilding our military, negotiating better trade deals, and the issues most important to the American people."

The Trump administration has signaled it does not intend to cooperate with the House investigation on Ukraine, just as it has stonewalled previous requests related to allegations of obstruction of justice and efforts to obtain the President's tax returns and other financial documents. Pompeo wrote in a letter this week that he would try to block State Department officials from testifying, calling the schedule unfeasible, and it was unclear whether he would comply with a subpoena that had a Friday deadline.

Trump said Friday that he would be issuing a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in response to the Democrats' request for documents. White House lawyers were drafting the letter saying they could not be compelled to produce documents until the full House votes to open an impeachment inquiry, something Pelosi has said is unnecessary according House rules.

Previously, Democrats have responded to White House stonewalling with contempt votes and lawsuits to pry loose the materials they were seeking. But they now appear to be taking a different tack with the Ukraine inquiry: arguing that a failure to cooperate will make their case that obstruction of justice occurred.

"We don't want this to drag on months and months and months, which appears to be the Administration's strategy, so they just need to know that even as they try to undermine our ability to find the facts around the President's effort to coerce a foreign leader to create dirt that he can use against the political opponent, that they will be strengthening the case on obstruction if they behave that way," Schiff said at a newsconference this week.

But the Democrats have had successes in obtaining information, too, including the testimony from former US special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker and text messages Volker provided showing that Trump's push for an investigation was linked to Ukraine's efforts to obtain a face-to-face meeting between the two presidents.

Pence was told about the July 25 call between Trump and Zelensky a day after it occurred, sources told CNN, although they would not say whether the vice president was briefed about what Trump said about the Bidens.
