Politics / Dollar Crash: Between CBN And Finance Ministry By Olawale Olaleye by hisexcellency34: 4:54am On Apr 01 |
It’s evident that the CBN is taking some critical measures in terms of its “monetary policy” to arrest the monster of forex rise. The gradual but noticeable crash of the dollar and others is proof that someone at the CBN is working hard to tame this economic pestilence. Yet, from the other street of Nigeria’s economic district, nothing appears to be happening seriously in terms of the complementary “fiscal policy” that could help the monetary policy crystalise properly and begin to manifest in the life of the average Nigerian. You would have noticed that in spite of the crash in dollars and others, the costs of things are still soaring. This is because the confidence in the measures so far taken is still shaky, and the Ministry of Finance appears to be sleeping on duty. From tariffs to taxes and duties, the Finance Ministry should have been taking some initiatives geared towards easing the current pains of the Nigerian people by incentivising major drivers of the economy for results. No doubt, the work of the CBN is not yet done, but steps so far taken are worthy of mention, and the man behind this wheel, Olayemi Cardoso, deserves commendation for facing the scourge head-on. It is, therefore, crucial that Olawale Edun of the Finance Ministy wakes up from his needlessly long nap and kicks in real quick. There’s no time to waste time. This is but a layman’s intervention and understanding of the nation’s economy as it currently stands. May Nigeria be great again. Amen https://worldviewafrica.com/between-cbn-and-finance-ministry/

Politics / In Benue State, Pensioners Were Regarded As Dead People – Gov. Alia by hisexcellency34: 9:48am On Mar 30 |
Benue state governor, Hyacinth Alia says he met the state in a pitiable condition where pensioners were regarded as dead people. He also said his predecessor, Samuel Ortom left behind a huge debt which is now hanging on his head. Alia who stated this in an interview with reporters in Makurdi also said while he is not owing workers, he has been unable to offset the salary arrears owed by the Ortom administration. “When I took over, I met the state in a pitiable condition. Pensioners were regarded as dead people; they were not remembered. Their entitlements were not paid for years. Local government teachers and the rest of the civil servants were nearly totally forgotten. My father was a local government teacher and I felt his pains when his entitlements were not given to him”. “The state, since its creation, was just a glorified village. We didn’t even have light on the streets in the state capital. Our internal roads were minimally tarred. So many things were not just in place. Benue has more ghost schools and workers than the real ones. You come into the state capital, Makurdi, and it is like you come into a village. I felt there was a need for us to change that narrative”. “Though we met a huge debt, we have been able to invest in health, roads, and some other infrastructure. Unfortunately, we have not been able to offset the arrears because it runs into hundreds of billions of naira. I cannot take care of that now, but what I have done is to take care of their salaries. Under my watch, our civil servants will not lose any of their salaries”. https://worldviewafrica.com/pensioners-were-regarded-as-dead-people-in-benue-gov-alia/ 1 Like

Politics / Tinubu, Beware Of Nyesom Wike By Richard Akinnola by hisexcellency34: 11:50am On Mar 28 |
By Richard Akinnola Impetuous, garrulous, flippant, compulsively and deliriously narcissistic, that succinctly encapsulates the Nyesom Wike persona. A study of the political trajectory of the FCT Minister shows that he is only loyal to himself and nobody else, irrespective of his feigned allegiance. He may kowtow and genuflect before a political leader, as he is currently doing in Abuja but once he can no longer use you, he goes into a fit of incoherent vituperative verbal assault, denigrating his benefactors. I watched his recent drama on Channels where he was reeling out his achievements as Governor, he said he built a Cancer Centre and named it after “one man”. He also built a Judicial institute and named it after “one woman”. (Pejoratively referring to Dr Peter Odili and his wife, Justice Mary Odili). His former political leader who he had praised to high heavens is now “one man”. How come his long time political associates suddenly turn enemies? -Rotimi Amaechi, Abiye Sekibo, Celestine Omehia, Austin Opara, Lee Meeba, and now, Dr Peter Odili, among others. Almost everything that Wike had said in public have been repudiated by him. From the PDP primaries where he vowed to support whosoever emerged as candidate, to his vow not to be minister, to his scathing excoriation of the APC which he likened to a cancerous party, everything Wike supposedly stood for have been repudiated by his fickle mindedness. Now, he is dancing around PBAT, like an urchin singing nursery rhyme, in his guttural and hoarse voice:“President Tinubu, on your mandate l shall stand”. President Tinubu, Wike is not standing on any mandate. He is standing on his opportunistic position as a minister. Remove him as minister and see if he would still be standing on your mandate.Tomorrow, before the cock crows at night, he would deny you if he is removed as minister and would start lamenting how he supposedly helped you but was used and discarded. Here was a man who publicly said that Odili saved his political career as Chairman of Obio Akpor local government, leading to his rise in political ascendancy and he used every opportunity to praise and honour Odili and his wife. He followed this up with a public declaration where he was almost swearing thus: “I don’t know the day l would die but l know l would die one day but the truth must be told, any day that l would make Dr Odili and his family cry, may God allow me to go…I would never be alive to make you cry. I will never abandon you and your wife. Where would l have been but for you and your wife? Who am l? From where? My wife would not have been a Magistrate, talk less a Judge but for Mrs Odili. Nobody in this country can make me abandon you and your family. Never. ...My wife and l are forever grateful to you for the roles you played in my life”. This was shown live on CHANNELS. Today, what is Wike doing to the same Odili? Publicly dissing and ridiculing him on same CHANNELS just because Dr Odili refused to queue behind him to decapitate Governor Sim Fubara. As an elder statesman, Odili rather preferred to settle the differences between the duo, which Wike refused. That is Odili’s sin to attract Wike’s “Fatwa”. He would do same thing to President Tinubu tomorrow if the president does not align with his interest. He doesn’t even understand the dynamics of larger politics to the fact that Odili and PBAT have a long-standing relationship being in the same class of 1999 Governors and that Odili doesn’t even have issues with PBAT. You cannot praise a man to high heavens for eight years in your fit of sycophancy, only to start publicly disrobing him just because he refused to be led by the nose in your ill-conceived political fight with your successor. What that means is that tomorrow, he’ll do same thing to president Tinubu if he doesn’t do his political bidding in Rivers state. That would amount to political self-immolation. So, if everyone who has assisted you in your political ascendancy are bad, then, something definitely must be wrong with you. Despite his accomplishments as Governor in terms of project execution which l acknowledge, there is no doubt, Wike has a serious character flaw that only him can cure. But trust me, despite his wealth and “power”, it’s a matter of time, this young man is on his way to political perdition. I pray he doesn’t end that way. Minister Wike, you are an achiever in terms of performance but l pray God grants you wisdom on how to navigate and relate with people who differ from you politically. *Richard Akinnola, a lawyer, activist and public affairs analyst writes from Lagos https://worldviewafrica.com/tinubu-beware-of-nyesom-wike/ 4 Likes

Politics / I Never Asked Tinubu To Sack CBN Governor, He Is Very Hardworking- Bwala by hisexcellency34: 12:21pm On Mar 23 |
TheCable: There were reports that you recently made a tweet urging President Bola Tinubu to sack the CBN governor. Don’t you think this sends a negative signal and will further negatively impact the economy? I never said President Tinubu should fire the CBN governor. I was quite surprised when I heard reports that I said he should be fired. My tweet is still on my X page. I said President Tinubu has a reform agenda and that the CBN governor should carry it out to the letter. The CBN governor has done a substantial part by revoking the licenses of BDCs and charging the Binance operators. I said the next focus should be financial institution executives because it is reported that most of them are the ones that own the BDCs outside. There is a report that the CBN itself says about $7 billion is lying in banks. So, searchlights should be beamed on the bank executives. I said that, just like in the US, if you tax them and they don’t respond, then you can fire all of them and replace them. I now say that if the CBN governor is not prepared to carry out the reforms to the letter, he can be replaced with another person who does not have a commercial banking background. That was what I proposed, but people started circulating breaking news that I said President Tinubu should sack the CBN governor, which is very untrue. As a matter of fact, the CBN governor is one of the few persons in this cabinet who is working hard. He really did well on the issue of the Binance operators. It takes great guts for you to arrest people who are doing terrorism financing and all kinds of illicit money transactions. Before, they were like cabals. They were untouchable. If you try anything, they will crash your money. But right now, the CBN governor was able to get them arrested, and they are cooperating and confessing. So, Cardoso is one of the few people who are working hard in this government. If not for the way he stamped his foot on the ground, by now, the dollar to naira rate would have been N1,900. So, he is doing well. What we are encouraging him to do is to look at bank executives and begin to place demands on them. These bank executives are the ones who collect the dollars from the CBN, but when customers need the dollars for travel, medical, or business issues, it is difficult to get them. Also, the CBN should look at the idea of ransom being paid to kidnappers through banks. If you look at the Terrorism Prevention Act, if a bank transfers money to a kidnapper or a withdrawal is made on behalf of a kidnapper, that bank has committed an act of terrorism. So, I believe that a good look at the operations of our financial institutions will help in addressing this menace of kidnapping too. https://www.thecable.ng/interview-budget-padding-by-national-assembly-isnt-illegal-says-bwala

Politics / Ajibulu To Tinubu: Don't Give Subsidy Money To Govs, Use For Projects In States by hisexcellency34: 9:51am On Mar 14 |
Tunde Ajibulu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says monies generated from the removal of petrol subsidy should be used for infrastructure projects in each state of the federation. Ajibulu, a member of the 2023 APC presidential campaign council (pictured 1st from left), stated this in a chat with TheCable on Tuesday, while adding that the monies should not be handed to state governors. He commended the performance of President Bola Tinubu, and urged Nigerians to be patient “as the president’s reforms will yield positive fruits soon”. “The president has performed creditably well. Yes, there is hardship now but it is temporary. It is like taking chloroquine which is very bitter with itching side effects but it will get the job done at the end of the day,” he said. On the depreciating value of the naira, Ajibulu said the government must come up with a policy that will put an end to capital flight. “The issue of naira fall is a work in progress. It will take a while to get things back to normal. The N23 trillion former President Muhammadu Buhari printed is a lot to mop up, so we have too much naira chasing the dollar,” he added. “Also, the extra cash from subsidy removal should be tied to projects in states and not given to governors. Nigerians want accountability on how these funds are used. https://www.thecable.ng/tunde-ajibulu-money-generated-from-subsidy-removal-should-be-tied-to-projects
