Crime / EFCC Speaks On N900m Allegedly Turning Into Papers In Its Custody by IamReallyboy(m): 4:44am On Oct 08, 2019 |
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has dismissed claims that about N900million turned into papers in its custody. EFCC said the huge sum of naira notes were subject of prosecution at an Ibadan Federal High Court. The anti-graft agency stated this in a series of tweets on Monday. According to the tweets: “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has been drawn to several online reports alleging that about N900 million (Nine Hundred Million Naira) of mutilated naira notes, being subject of prosecution at the Federal High Court, Ibadan, and kept in several boxes in EFCC’s custody has turned to paper. The report is very mischievous and a gross misrepresentation of facts of the matter. “It is imperative to note that the case was reported to the EFCC by the CBN in 2015 and the parties involved are currently in court. “In the course of investigations, EFCC operatives visited the CBN office in Ibadan to inspect the said boxes and discovered that the monies had been tampered with. “This discovery was what informed the EFCC’s involvement in the case, resulting in interrogation of suspects and subsequent prosecution. “At no point were the boxes of the mutilated naira notes taken to the office of the EFCC. “Count one and two of the charge against the suspects reads: “That you Patience Okoro Eye; Afolabi Olufemi Johnson; Ilori Adekunle Sunday; Kolawole Babalola, Olaniran Muniru Adeola and Fatai Adedokun Yusuf on or about 5th August, 2014 in Ibadan within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, have by virtue of abuse of your office, being employees of Central Bank of Nigeria, contributed to the economic adversity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria when you destroyed a box marked “… “Counted Audited Dirty” filled with Newspapers in place of a box containing N10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira) of N1,000 denomination and which activity led to the increase of money in circulation which the briquetting exercise of Central Bank of Nigeria was intended to control and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 1(2) (b) and Section 10 (1) of the Recovery of Public Property (Special Provision) Act, Cap. R4, Laws of the Federation Nigeria, 2014″. “At the last hearing, the Court mandated the EFCC to present them (the boxes) at the next hearing as evidence. EFCC Nigeria. “This is a clear departure from the mischievous accounts of naysayers who erroneously misinterpreted the position of the court to claim that the boxes were tampered with by the EFCC. “Members of the public are hereby advised to ignore such disinformation, as it is only being spread to cause harm, unnecessary sensationalism and create doubt in the minds of citizens. “The media is hereby advised to always seek clarifications on information before spreading fake news. “Meanwhile, Mayowa Onabanjo, the kingpin suspect in one of the cases and former staff of Zenith bank is wanted and currently at large. “Any useful information by members of the public on the whereabouts of this individual should be reported to the EFCC offices nearest to you or via email: info@efccnigeria.org; the hotline (08093322644) or any of our social media pages: @officialefcc.” Source:- https://247gistreal.com.ng/efcc-speaks-on-n900m-allegedly-turning-into-papers-in-its-custody/ 1 Like

Politics / Gbajabiamila Reacts To Killing Of Afenifere Leader’s Daughter by IamReallyboy(m): 6:40am On Jul 15, 2019 |
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has described the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, “as shocking.” Gbajabiamila in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Lanre Lasisi, said the untimely death of Olakunrin was a huge blow to the family. “It is my prayers that God will give the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. “This sad event is a huge dent on the efforts of the Federal Government aimed at securing the lives and property of Nigerians. “It is my belief that this would not dampen the spirit of government to rid the country of all forms of crime,” he said. Gbajabiamila, added that since security is a cardinal focus of the 9th House of Representatives, members are determined to provide all the legislative support to the federal government to rid the country of crimes and criminalities. He urged security agencies not to be deterred but to put in preventive measures as they try to bring the perpetrators of crimes to book. Culture / 5 Unmistakable Signs You’re Dealing With A Typical Nigerian by IamReallyboy(m): 3:48pm On Feb 28, 2019 |
There are certain unmistakable signs that you’re dealing with a typical Nigerian that are hard to ignore. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 5 unmistakable signs you’re dealing with a typical Nigerian. After a Long Period of Separation, You’re Greeted With the State of your Weight A typical Nigerian will break the ice with something like ‘you’ve added weight o!’ or ‘wow, you’re thinner now o, were you sick?’, when you see them again after a long period of separation. This is one of the major ways you’ll know you’re dealing with a typical Nigerian. They just can’t help it. They Have Two Phones This can definitely be considered the trademark of a typical Nigerian. The two phones usually consist of one smart-phone and one flip or classic mobile phone. It doesn’t matter if the smartphone is a dual-sim phone and there really isn’t a need for the other one, it’s just a necessary trademark for the typical Nigerian to have them both. Although, some argue that having two phones isn’t just to show off and it’s the current state of power in the country that makes it imperative to have a backup phone, in the event the battery of the other runs down and there is no opportunity to charge it. This is a valid argument and one of the major factors contributing to the two phone trademark of typical Nigerians. Other variations of the two phone trademark includes having one smart-phone and a blackberry smartphone. They’re Extremely Security Conscious and Watchful This is not without good reason, considering the security forces in the country isn’t exactly top-notch and the security situation in the country is also more or less a mess. Due to this fact, typical Nigerians are highly security conscious and are more inclined to be as secretive as possible with details of their private and personal life, sometimes even bordering on paranoia with how secretive they can be. There is of course the spiritual side, and the fact that it’s just not safe to be so open about your private life because of the ‘wicked souls’ that might hear about it and do all that’s within their power to work against your happiness, even going as far as dabbling in the diabolical. For these reasons and because of the many heart-wrenching stories of people that have at one point or the other been careless with their security and paid dearly for it, a typical Nigerian just can’t help but be extremely security conscious and watchful. The Need to add ‘O’ and ‘Sha’ to their Sentences These two slangs add ‘salt’ to a typical Nigerian’s lingua. The slangs are used for emphasis in most casual conversations engaged in by typical Nigerians and is not limited to class, as you can sometimes find even the wealthy casually making use of it in conversations. The two slangs can also be used to express mounting anger or irritation over an issue or subject of discussion. They Call Strangers By Familiar Names A typical Nigerian finds it easy to call a complete stranger by familiar and endearing names like ‘mummy’, ‘daddy’, ‘uncle’, ‘sister’, ‘aunty’, ‘chairman’, ‘oga’, ‘bros’, ‘dear’ etc. They do so as a sign of respect or to establish some kind of connection with the individual. Some do so because they simply don’t know the name of the person and don’t want to ask for it. General names for referring to strangers like ‘ma’, ‘madam’, ‘sir’, ‘young lady’, ‘young man’, ‘miss’, ‘mrs’, ‘mr’ etc. don’t seem to be enough for the typical Nigerian; however some argue that calling a stranger by familiar and endearing names is done because Nigerians generally have a familial culture that accords everyone with respect.
