It's an elementary point of biology that we each are the output of our genes. The genes code or contribute majorly to muscle mass, hair characteristics, eye color, height and so on. The genes determine our gender. Are you seriously telling me those same genes don't have any effect on the characteristics and workings of the brain?

Look, I know it's very uncomfortable to acknowledge it, but there's a genetic component to intelligence. Environment also plays a part but is LIMITED by the parameters set by the genes. This reality is really hard to take, but there it is. Nigeria is what it is BECAUSE of the people who inhabit it. Bringing a significant number of such people into a prosperous country reduces that prosperity UNLESS there's a rigorous selection process...which is actually what the USA should be doing...proactive selection of worthy people. For example, those who hate Whites or Christians should definitely be excluded from White majority nations. Allowing them in is a recipe for trouble.

I can brag. If its easy let them do it. Leaving Nigeria to a new country, a country that people don't even know or rate. Learning a new language and getting elite jobs all in one year. Anyone can do it, its a free world. The only job I speak english is my american job all my other jobs are completely in spanish. So you can figure out the level of spanish I had to have to get my jobs and I am still studying o and I will graduate with distinction too

How many folks have these privilege you re talking about. There is a high barrier for entry level folks here in the tech field. Those guys doesn't represent the sample of space of Nigerian job seekers in the tech industry.

I see. But Tensazangetsu20 has shared the experiences of few tech bros he knows who work as permanent staff in some Nigerian banks. They make big bucks. Also, I've read the benefits attached to some of the job ads - they really look exclusive. The reason could be that the tech retrenchment over the last one made employers choosy and reduced their renumeration perks.

The entire Nigerian economy is in serious retrenchment mode. Yes there are people making big money in Nigeria...and also in Haiti, Lebanon and Somalia. The question is always HOW MANY PEOPLE and how easy is it to get the job or run the business. You're discussing permanent staff. Chevron Nigeria has only 600 permanent positions in Nigeria. The entire crude oil & natural gas industry is contracting, people are losing jobs, closing businesses and fleeing abroad.

Maybe this is the bottom point 🤔 We'll see.

A significant number of NIGERIANS abandon their foreign spouses once they get their immigration papers. It cuts across all genders and races. Citizens of the USA and other advanced countries need to exercise EXTREME caution when marrying people from poorer countries.

I've tried to tell people this, but the PROUD Anti-Jakpa Crew will always dispute it. My own mother pays the yearly rent for at least TWO families I know of and also the school fees and sundry other costs for many children. With Xmas close at hand she's already put aside many thousands of dollars for various people back in Nigeria. This is replicated across thousands of Nigerian families.

As I was telling someone recently, most families in Nigeria that have a decent living standard - home in good neighborhood with running water and flush toilet, own a car, feed well and run a generator constantly, they have someone abroad sending them money regularly.

But living in Nigeria is better than living in the UK & US. We know that already

Both Buhari and Tinubu have been horrible at managing Nigeria’s economy. I will never argue against this.
Understanding how a sovereign wealth fund works at stabilizing an economy is necessary for you know why I blame GEJ above anyone else. I will attach a YouTube short to this post.

In simple terms, a sovereign wealth fund is like a diet. It forces you to eat less than you can so you have suboptimal growth. When you produce less food, you can still maintain your previous level of consumption without having to borrow much.

Buhari either had to implement tough reforms or borrow money because Nigeria was eating everything it earned. Nigeria’s economy was amongst the fastest growing on earth because it refused to place itself on a diet. If Goodluck had insisted on saving, Buhari would not have needed to print any money or borrow any money. This reforms Nigeria is passing through would not have been severe.

If Nigeria fails to learn to save, it will be stuck in a cycle of fast growth for a few years, when oil prices are rising and painful reforms for 10-20 years when oil prices are falling.

Your talk on fuel subsidies is irrelevant. Prices of gasoline in America are about the same as they were in 2006-2007. Prices are not at record highs. Why prices of fuel in Nigeria are so high is because of the falling value of the Naira. Subsidies exist because of our bad savings culture. The government is not doing the citizens a favor, but it is failing at its responsibility at maintaining a stable currency and the passing the cost unto the citizens.

The PDP, either OBJ or Jonathan, started a sovereign wealth fund. There was also an Excess Crude Account. The State Governors led by Chibuike Amaechi and also maybe Lagos State sued to have it distributed. Again, very public knowledge. It actually happened and they won.

Fuel prices are high because of the falling value of naira. I agree with you. What caused the falling value of naira? Massive printing of naira in excess of productivity.

On the Sovereign Wealth Fund, I agree with you it was a missed opportunity. I think Nigeria does have one, there's simply not much money in it. I've read some good economic papers that compare and contrast the UK with Norway. Both have North Sea crude oil but only one saved the income. Maybe Nigeria learned its ways from our Mother Country. Or maybe it's not possible to have a good public savings culture in such a diverse nation as Nigeria. What do you think of that?
