Food / Kitchen/cooking Helpful Tips! by ibis: 12:40pm On Sep 18, 2007 |
HIYA. cld we all post those kitchen/ cooking tips u learnt from mama or over time, we cld all learn stuff we never knew. ill start: if u the cover of a jar/tin is stuck and hard to open, tap the cover lightly all round with a spoon, and voila, it opens easily. when u grind beans for akara or moimoi to prevent it from going sour, push a piece of charcoal into it to drive weevils from ur beans or rice bag, put in dried but not ground chillis (pepper) when boiling ground tomatoes to get out excess water put in a few drops of oil to prevent it from boiling over original roasted titus fish is very oily, has a distinct aroma and a pale bluish stripe on its side. ok guys ill think up more soon! |

Food / Re: I Hate Cooked Onions! by ibis: 11:51am On Sep 18, 2007 |
i hated cooked onions as a child also. what i do is i grind the onions and add it to whatever i am cookin so i can still have the flavour. i also put it into oil, fry it to get the flavour into the oil, then remove the pieces. i also buy powdered onions in bottles from tesco or asda. |
Food / Re: Plantain by ibis: 10:48am On Sep 18, 2007 |
stuff u can do with plantain: boil it was the plantain and cut it into 2 or 3 pieces make a small incision on the side of each piece in the skin put water with a little salt to boil in a pot put in ur pieces and boil till soft not mussy remove the skin and serve with sauce. sauces include egg sauce, fish sauce or corned beef sauce. basic for all sauces: tomatoes blended or chopped onions chopped peppers (hot chilis) oil seasoning ie stock cubes, thyme and curry for a traditional african flavour u cld add crayfish(dried shrimps) and ichawun i think u call it basil. heat some oil in a pot, add onions, fry a bit, add tomatoes and chilli fry, add ur seasoning, then u cld add either fish, egg or corned beef (or minced meat) ready!!! you could also remove the plantain from its skin and bake it whole in an oven. serve with peanuts (a snack) or make a pepper sauce and fry fish to go with it. |
Nairaland / General / Re: Here's My 419 Experience, Whats Yours? by ibis: 9:53am On Sep 12, 2007 |
2nd one was in london during my masters in 2005. i wanted to move off campus and was searching for accomodation on this popular website gumtree. the guy had a nice apartment in hampstead heath (a nice area) for a reasonable price. he had pics of the place. i emailed him that i was interested. next min he replies with this sob story that he is german currently living in munich. he was married to a brit thats how he owned the house which they lived in. about a year ago they where both involved in a car accident. she died and he was left crippled and had been in a german hospital, is now in wheel chair and is tryin to raise money to get his life back on track and has decided to rent the home. (all this to elicit sympathy) he asked what i do and will like to see a photo of me. i told him i was a black nig student in the uk. he said he didnt have a caretaker for the house and would have to fly in from germany (beware when plenty story starts, it gets whiny and long). that i had to prove it would not be a wasted journey by showing i had enough money in my acc to pay my rent. i asked how i could prove it. he said i sld tranfer the total rent money to anyone i pleased maybe a friend in school (this confused me because it was not to him) and send the bank teller evidencing the transfer to him via western union so he can know i really have that amt of money b4 he travels down with the key. that word western union got to me as i associate it subconciously with naija. i played dumb askin what western union etc. i decided at this point to consult a fellow naija bros in school. they guy confirmed ho ha that sure smells like nineteen. next time the guy emailed me a reminder bout the teller, i reported him for abuse to the webmaster and his post was takin off. my question to this day was how will he have made use of the bank teller? answers pls my cousins own was bad. the 2 men followed her home. waited patiently as she packed all her prized possessions and gave them. booked an appointment for her to come to and addy later in the week to give them more.she was on her way that fateful day to give them again when her sister who happened to be visiting started asking questions. she was actually fighting her sister to be allowed to go. her eyes only cleared after a pastor was called to pray for her. my pple be prayerful. greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world. |

ok. ive had 2 experiences 1st was when i was on nysc way back in 2001 in ph. had left the school where i was teaching and a crowd of pple at d busstop so i was grateful when a battered brown kabukabu stopped right in front of me. i entered here was a lady and 2 men already inside.after sometime the driver stopped at a point and told one of the men that this was his stop that he was tired of takin him round lookin for d place he wanted to stop. that the addy did not exist. the man looked anguished he cld barely speak english and was blabbering in french that he had just alighted from a ship at onne port and had brought tvs and other electronics to supply a bizman in ph and that was the addy that he was given. he had to find the guy as d ship will sail later in the evening. they got me involved by showing me the paper with the addy written to verify if i knew where it was to "help" the man. this was after everyone else had looked. next came delibrations on how we could help the man, buy the goodsor help him sell them etc and our reward will be a tv each and some money. next minute the cab that was taking me from rumubiakani to rumuola was turning in the other direction on aba road heading towards onne port to see the goods. i started feeling dizzy at that point. all of a sudden its as if the holy spirit touched me and i heard a loud voice in my head saying get out of this taxi fast dont you realise what is happening! i suddenly found strenght and started shouting drop me oh! drop me oh! im going to rumuola. the driver said sister i think say all of us don already gree say we dey go port try help this man. i still shouted and they stopped, pushed me out and drove off at top speed. i was shakin and mnew it was Gods grace and mercy upon my life. pls pray without ceasing. |
Travel / Re: Student Visa Success Stories by ibis: 5:10pm On Jun 24, 2007 |
hiya. i went for my masters sept 2005 n finished in 2006. dont know if the procedure has changed but this is my 2cents. i think the most important things to do when applying for a student visa are: 1) fill your student questionaire very well as your answers determine how serious you are 2) make sure you have evidence of accomoessdation ie your term time address b4 u apply for visa 3) your sponsors letter sld come preferably be on the letterhead of where they work 4)the bank statement you use sld have at least 3 million naira in it 5)u sld try to pay a deposit of about 4,000pounds 2wards ur fees b4 applying 6)when given ur visa, it sld be valid for 5months after u are due to finish, so check the date to ensure this. thats it! goodluck!!!! |

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Hard working Staff Vs High flyer; makes the difference by ibis: 9:26pm On Dec 04, 2006 |
@ frankies i understand where u r coming from. though ur salary is not bad as a contract staff there are still major differences btw u and a full staff having a job is not all about delicious pay but about fufilment. that term contract speaks temporary and some folks stay there all their careers and have to keep renewing the contract you also dont have all the little perks and efisi the full staff enjoy.it is well at least u are in the system to an extent. my advice. keep your ears close to the grd for for permanent vacancies in there.i do not believe in the half loaf is better than none theory i do not look at who i am better than but at who is better than me so i keep keeping on till i get there do not listen to anyone who says at least u have something. strive towards what will give u total fufilment |
