Is there is a big difference between driving in a city and driving in the highway? Yes Can someone new to driving drive on the highway? Yes/ No/ It depends on the car and the driver Most of the comments above have treated very salient issues. There are a few other issues that either come to my mind or that I wish to stress on: How often have you taken interstate trips not as a driver but as a very attentive passenger? How sound is your car? Will you carry some cash on you just in case of trouble? How good are your reflexes? Can you take major life-defining decisions within split seconds? Do you value your life and the life of others whether in your car, in other cars, or walking on the road? How good are you at braking? Are you as good at braking as you are in speeding? How good are you at maneuvering the steering wheel at both low speeds and high speed without loosing control? How do you respond to road rage? Do you have an urge to retaliate when someone does something he should not in front of you or behind you? DO you realize that is better to disown your rights on the road if it means you will remain alive to drive another day? Have you taken an oath not to hit another life ( human or animal), not to hit concrete ( road dividers and curbs, etc) and not to hit metal ( other cars, traffic lights and road signs)? And are you willing to do everything not to break that oath as if your life depended on it? Have you watched at least 30 to 100 videos of accidents on Youtube so you realize that a car can both a fun device and an instrument of death and sorrow? Will you have company in that car that will encourage you to respect your limitations as a baby driver or who will spur you to go to the limits of your capabilities and that of the car (which I doubt you really know)? Within a year of steady driving, I wanted the thrill of a first cross-country trip because I felt a car is no use to me if I can only do town runs, and I would never consider myself a driver if I cannot do long distance drives ( which I defined as 800km one way minimum). So I began by ensuring that my car was ok, several trips to the mechanic, several 100km round-trips, followed by 360km round trips and then I did my first 800km trip all alone. I did not tell anyone in my family except one friend I knew would not tell anyone. I started at 9.45am and I arrived 7.30pm. You can imagine how I felt that I could do it! I didn't tell anyone until I arrived. I did two 1,600km commutes within one year of learning driving and I did it all alone. I didn't carry anyone to guide me or help me or assist me. So it all depends. During all those previous trips (before the major one the 800km trip), I was extremely attentive to the car and its handling and my capabilities in handling the car, I knew how fast it would do 0 to 60 mph, I knew how fast it could brake from 60 to 0 and everything in between. I knew everything I felt I needed to know. I knew how many miles I go could go with the tank at full and the tank at 1/2 mark and at 1/4 mark and I carried enough money on me I also fell back on my knowledge of the risks of the road as a very attentive interstate commuter ( not driver), and playing realistic car video games (after all don't pilots use simulators)? In summary, all I have said above an be summarized as follows: "Are you mature enough?" I didn't tell anyone because they felt I wasn't mature enough, but I felt that I had conducted enough research and had all the facts at my disposal to do it and I did it. So if the answer to the question "Are you mature enough?" is YES, then go ahead provided you have done your homework and if not, then please be firm at the wheel before you try it! 15 Likes |

Sultaan's approach makes a lot of sense. Why did you change the engine? What kind of engine did you have before? Did you change with the same engine? Or different? What year model is your MPV? I actually wanted to point you to the part in the car that causes the O/D off light on problem. But I am going to wait a while until you address the issues above! |

http://www.landlinemag.com/Story.aspx?StoryID=22523 With all the kidnapping facing the elite, am not sure that the elite including those in government will accept this for passenger cars but we will watch how the debate goes. Sadly we have voices for speed limiters (FRSC and co) but the voices against speed limiters (transporters/etc) have not been as active here in Nigeria Is it not time we started the lobby against speed limiters? Like Britain is doing in Europe? |

We deal in OEM parts delivered direct to your door. Try ___ We know many have been duped on Nairaland So we sign a legal agreement with you covering 1. your purchase and 2. The shipment from overseas to Nigeria. We also give you a quote that includes official custom charges so your goods will not be confiscated. https://www.nairaland.com/1366578/worried-fraud-here-carparts.com.ngs-terms Also note that when do business with ---, you are not dealing with a faceless individual who can grow wings and disappear into thin air but with a limited liability company incorporated under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that has been in business since the early 2000s with a name/reputation to protect. If we default, you can take up the matter with Corporate Affairs Commission, EFCC, the police or even the courts thus setting the machinery of state against the company and its directors, but we won't default. We also have an office in Abuja. SO its up to you to decide who to deal with but rest assured dealing with us cannot be a wrong choice! We can give you a free no-obligation quote here: --- NOTE: When shopping for replacement parts, we will need the make, the model, the year of the car as well as the VIN. You don’t need to have the number of the part, but if we have all the details above, then we will be able to guarantee providing you with an EXACT FIT, which is what you really want – that it fits the first time and works like it did from the factory. This is so because even identical cars of the same year can use a different power steering pump or alternator. By doing the above, we eliminate the need to do costly returns because the part does not fit, we thus save you money and make you happy with us the first time and all the time. Delivery Options include: Next International Flight, 5 days, 7 days, 14 to 21 days or 30 days it all depends on your pocket and the size of the shipment NOTE II: I am not saying every individual who carries on business here is a fraud because they are a few honest people who believe their name is worth more than cash. All I am saying is Caveat Emptor! Because its pretty easy for an individual to escape the law and change his home, office, telephone numbers, etc and aliases not so for a company. |

I think the problem you are having is known as shift shock is appears to be common to some MPVs although other MPV owners say it has not happened to them. You could do some research on it at mpvclub.com If otherwise it shifts well apart from the shift shock and it has no electrical issue you have a choice to take it back for "minor adjustments" to the seating of the transmission or to live with it. I know someone who used to experience have shift shock with the vehicle but that reported to me that the shift shock is gone. Also if you do gentle acceleration between 0 and 60 miles you might not feel/experience it, but if you do hard acceleration you will |

igomen: I read somewhere I cannot find the source now that the failure of Mazda to specify an interval for transmission servicing in the manual led to several catastrophic transmission failures that have been documented online and that the consensus among MPV owners is to do the servicing every 50,000 miles. My suggestion is if money is no object, do it every 25,000 miles so don't just use months to calculate, use number of miles covered as well, so whichever comes first is what should guide you. 1 Like |

Do you really want to use an MPV for transport? In the city the MPG of the MPV 2001 is 16 and on the highway it is 21 and 18 combined In the city the MPG of the Sienna 2001 is 17 and on the highway it is 23 and 19 combined Slight difference but when you do the miles, slight differences matter a great deal. (side talk/example) To illustrate once I drove along the deadly Abuja - Bida road in 3 hours during the day but it took me 6 hours driving at night since I didn't want to end up a statistic or like an unfortunate guy i met on the way with his bottom plate broken and his ATF spilled on the road. Plus the sienna is a bit more spacious than the MPV, although the MPV might be sportier. What transmission fluid are you using? When last do you service the transmission? I recommend ELF ATF- MII(Dextron II) which costs around 2,500 to 3,000 per litre or Oando which costs 800 - 1,000 per litre depends on your pocket. Does it have O/D OFF light on? When you do the service with a transmission specialist and the filter is cleaned up and the fluid replaced report back and I will see how much more help I can render to you. |

Am so happy for you. It takes a lot to find out the root of a car problem because different problems can produce the same symptoms. I am glad that in the end, you got your car back! lol!! |

Great, and how did you reach that diagnosis? Not questioning it though! Your mechanic? A transmission tech? Or someone else? Am plain curious! |

What’s the ideal car for the millennial generation? Well, there’s some debate as to whether Gen Y consumers want cars at all. But for those who do, Mazda has helped develop a concept that’s supposed to be perfect for millennial drivers. Mazda recently unveiled a new concept car designed and engineered by graduate students at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research. The concept, called “Deep Orange 3,” was born with the express purpose of building a vehicle for millennials, based on findings gathered from surveys of 70,000 young consumers. yes they would BUT t hey usually want to cut out the entire catalytic converter to check if it is blocked, cut before and after the catalytic converter. But it is your car, you can insist they do as you saw in the video by showing them the video, the issue is how many of them have the tester Scott uses in that video. The problem with cutting is that you are forced to work with him return things to normal and will definitely cost you more than just drilling a hole would have cost. So the simple way out is order that tester or hire it - am sure if you tell us your location, we might be able to point you to someone who might have and then you can go to a panel beater and ask him to drill those two holes and give you a chance to perform the test and then seal back the holes. What do you think? You can also get an obd tester, am sure you can get a unit for about $100 excluding shipping for personal use, the professional editions cost much much more. |

No one is buying a new car any more, it seems. Unless you pay cash, no one's going to lend you any money, so keep your old car. Of course, I'm talking from the point of view of a repair shop, so keep the source in mind. Mwah-ha-ha and hugs to you all! But seriously, having seen lots of cars worth keeping well over 100,000 miles, as well as those whose owners have no choice but to keep them, we've compiled a list of ways to make that older car feel like it used to when it was new. Number 5: Flush every fluid, even those you forgot about. Number 4: Straighten or replace your wheels Number 3: De-odorize your air conditioning Number 2: Replace your struts/shocks and ball joints (as equipped) Number 1: Replace your catalytic converters, muffler and oxygen sensors Read more here: http://www.allpar.com/dealers/repairs/older-cars.html |

I forgot to add that while a Toyota Sienna's engine was made for economy, the engine driving the Mazda MPV was made for "need for speed". Well, what I really mean is that Porsche originally developed the engineering behind this engine before selling the same to Ford. Am sure you know Porsche's pedigree with respect to speed. on the other hand, the Cylinder heads were made by Cosworth. A little brief on Cosworth: High-performance engineering company founded in London in 1958, specialising in engines and electronics for automobile racing, mainstream automotive and defence industries, in short, they are specialist engine tuners. So if you want a sporty SUV from the 2000s, Mazda SUV might be what you are looking for BUT if you want an economical SUV from the 2000s, then Toyota Sienna might be it. Also please check this link for one more difference between the engine in the Mazda MPV of 2000 and the Toyota Sienna of 2000: http://forum.mpvclub.com/viewtopic.php?p=90348 The Duratec engine is very capable and dependable if you decide to go the MPV route. One more thing, replace the stock Motorcraft plugs with Bosch Platinum Iridium Fusion 4504 plugs and you will be able to extract all the horsepower the Duratec engine in the MPV can give you.
