Getting a job is a job itself, as such you can't rely on your CV, because your Cv is just a paper. you are your CV. when ever you get a chance at an interview. bear in mind that its sales marketing. you have to pitch and sell yourself.

If you are a young fresh graduate, you better go get that teaching job. you have one year teaching experience already.

Even though many people say there are no jobs, yet hundreds and thousands of people are getting jobs regularly.
For me, the problem has always been lack of information about who is employing, where and when the employment is taking place.

Even though many people say that Nigerian graduates are not employable, in my opinion i believe, there are different jobs for different people with different class and remuneration.

in my view, with the right information, knowledge and guide everyone can be gainfully employed to earn a decent living, especially in town like Ota that has the largest numbers of almost all the largest brand names in Nigeria with alot of cottage firms servicing different needs.

this is the reason,, i am creating this trend Jobs in Ota to guide, and provide up to date information about the vacancies in ota and its environs.

ladies and gentlemen, we declare this trend JOBS IN OTA open.

Am going to do a quickie on the subject of consultants as contractors.

Understand that a contractor is someone who collect jobs and doesn't necessarily have to do them, as he can sub-contract the jobs to professions to handle. But he is responsible for the outcome of the job so done .

As a consultant with a grip on the school you have worked with. You can offer to collect printing jobs for exercise books, school painting, website development, purchase of books from vendors etc.
The bottom line is to make extra income from the school.

When you collect these contracts from the schools you are solely responsible for the outcome of the jobs.

It's another day, Saturday morning, the 2nd of April. Am excited because am on my way to Lagos, heading to Unilag for a training.
Oooh, just you know. Am not a speaker, am going in to sit at the back side and learn.

Am being encouraged by my colleague I work with to discuss the option of continuous working as everyone is not cut out for business.

As forceful as the society is about being your own boss, I saw first hand from this men who have been labourers for more than half their lives have serious issues crasping the concept of planning their business.

It then made sense why its said that everyone can not be an entrepreneur.

So, at this juncture, am forced to rephrase.
As you are to plan for retirement, it's not necessarily starting a new businesses, you must at all cost learn invest.

As we are still at point one which talked about being absolutely crystal clear on why you need to start.

Starting, could actually be starting your own business, learning to invest in someone else start up idea, investing your money in an existing business, buying shares etc
But, by all means you must learn to generate income after retirement.

The worst form of poverty is to be once rich and later become poor.

Bottom line is, when you get your money and you have not planned what to do with it, it will evaporate.
And once that happens, the once rich statement becomes unavoidable.

The worst thing you can do with gratuity money is to build a house with it.
My friends, this was the situation we saw.most of the men we met, were already planning using their monies to build houses.

And we asked them, by the time you finish building the house, what will then happen to you.
And someone answered, bury me in it'

I have also discovered that many youth corpers waste their service year idling away doing little or nothing.

Some are busy Wasting time and resources doing professional programs that are not relevant to their Field of study.

Service year, the period of gainful employment are the best time to start a business planning process.

In a school I worked with, I met a female corper and we started talking.

Out of curiosity I asked her, the usual question, after service, what next.?
And she gave me the usual answer, that question is over asked.!

I know I asked her that question a lot Of times....and she gave me the same answer.

To me, she had her personal plans for the days ahead!

While she was servicing, I always saw her sturfing the internet, checking out chemical formula as she said she has a strong interest for cosmetic products.

To my utmost disappointment, after service, I chat her up and asked her how far with employment and was amazed when she said she was learning decoration and even planning.

I was angry, scolded and hung up.

After about a month, we got talking again and this time, she said she was now into music.

I fainted literally

This Is how many others waste a whole year doing nothing.

And I wonder, how come no one of these young people take the compulsory trainings during camp and Cds meetings serious.

Make hay while the sun shines.

Ooops, that's over used.

Its really amazing or do I say disappointing to start something and never finish it.

But lately, I have been asking my self.... Does consulting have an end?

Recently I have got some insights into consulting and I just wish I can repeat most Of the jobs I have done before.

But then, that's not possible, as I can only do better.

I saw that in my last post, I was to talk or write about consultants As contractors.

Yes, I will do justice to that topic, but before then, am excited to tell you about my new found books and reading list which I believe every consultant must read and have as reference points.

Around June last year, I stumbled into a book titled

Business Consulting

This book explains every thing that needs to be known about consulting business. As it gave guide to how it works and how to make it work.

Again I saw another book titled

First Break all the Rules.

Chaii

And this year, I have made a reading list of 8books on strategy I must read and I have bought 6 Of them already.

I spent the whole of last year reading books on leadership.

Why am I saying all this.?

Am saying this because this is the lifestyle of a consultant.

You must be ahead Of the client.

To jump from the being employee to being self employed, certain things must be considered, taken into consideration and keenly adhered to.

The objective of my write up is just to point out the basic principles of starting a business and the needed plans to consider.

The reason why many start up fail is because many people are to quick to start, poorly prepared for the challenges ahead.

Many people catch the entrepreneur seizure. These is because they just read a great book or listened to a great motivational speech and hence decided to start a business.

The truth is.
The best time to plan your business is when you are in a paid job!

To start a business while still keeping your paid job

1. BE ABSOLUTELY CRYSTAL CLEAR ON YOUR REASON FOR STARTING A BUSINESS.

WHY do you want to start a business and enter the red shake infested sea?

Is it for you to be your own boss, to be financially independent, to have time freedom to be with your kids, wife or family, to make enough money to support a cause or just to be on records that you too started a business in your life time.

You must be sure to know why you are starting.

If it's just to have something for the future, you can engage fixed deposits to save up your money, put your retirement money in the bank and enjoy the interest as it accrue.

You need to be sure because starting a business while working will take your time, energy and resources.

It will affect your relationship, and strain you.
Trust me, I have gone through this phase of life, and it's not too funny.

Generally, the best reasons I have seen as the most appropriate to start a business is to add value, improve a service, develop alternative satisfaction.

No matter what it is, take your time.
Don't be in a rush.

Proper preparation prevents poor performance.

You can take years to plan a business because you have all the time it takes to plan. The best time to plan a business is when you are in a paid job.

in 2013, our organization noticed our trainings were nose diving and hence needed to think otherwise and find other ways to get more regular seminars.

We reached a censesus to reach out to factory workers to train them to find alternative ways of making extra income and prepare them for retirement.

What am about to share with you are lessons I have learnt in the course of running these trainings.

And use them as tools to educate those who are working now to consider the option of starting something small while still maintaining your regular paying job.

As we ventured into these big organizations with 200+ work forces. -factory workers.

To our greatest surprise, we found people in factories that have worked 15-20+ who have no single plan for retirement.

And those who supposedly have plans are just waiting for their retirement gratuity to be paid before deciding on what business to engage.

While some are solely depending on the money from their co-operative society fund

Others have actually eaten their gratuity, because their company unions have struck a bargain with the management of their organizations to pay the gratuity over the years in installments -

The most disheartening Of it all, is that most of these people are just in the late 40s and mid 50s.

And the question I kept asking is, what if these people are retired, retrenched, resized or resigned?

These issues bring serious concern to me, and am hoping I can share my experience and also invite the learned colleagues or persons in NL to help educate others who find themselves in this situation:

-the situation of trying to be self employed while still keeping a regular making job.

-the situation of trying to know the best time to call it quit.
When to launch out, how to making it when you launch out.

Remember, the GLO-CAL (thinking global but starting local) SYNDROME is the main motivation and drive needed to launch.

We really need to change this wrong thinking.

No one seemed to get the message.
People don't want to patronise government, yet they want to work with government.

You are considered poor and unclassy if you enter government bus.
You are advised to not use government hospital because of inefficiency, etc
Yet 90% of people are falling over themselves to work with the government.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Photo: When You Get Government Job by iebelieve(m): 8:21am On Jan 30, 2016
My dude,

the best time to start planing for retirement is the day you get a job.

We have been running retirement training for govt and private organizations, and the things I have been seeing for the past one year is really disheartening.

Atleast, you can open a fixed deposit account where you deposit a fixed account of money per Month.

-for the sake of your old age, Pls plan for your retirement
-there is no permanent job security : anything can still happen.

I can send you some materials to help develop... Your thinking

government jobs are good but it should be federal
especially when it is a federal university like the one i got last year in uniben.
no fear of being sacked and the salary keep on coming even when our presido keep on complaining that there is no money.
the only problem now is am addicted to gambling like seriously because the salary never ends untill i attain retirement age. and that is a whole long long time to come as a young guy

Dear sir,
With all due respect.
this your kind of thinking is anti-wealth creation for a 21st century youth.

When people start looking for job security then, they have lost the essence and vibe for meaningful contribution to the organization.

The reason the government sector is in such bad shape is because :" people leave the jobs to go do their jobs"

See to it that you love and enjoy what you re doing, then you will have time for everything else

fartkay:

U c me am looking for a gov job. I tire for firm job. No time for urself n even d money u earn.

There is job security in any gov job, even a gate man on their pay roll is entitled to entitlement gratitude n pension. In firm once u re laid off n paid off by by b dat.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Government Job And A Firm: Time To Pick One by iebelieve(m): 7:57am On Jan 30, 2016
@OP
I was in your shoes a couple of years ago.
I wanted to start my school consulting business .

Then ,I incidentally ran into one of my secondary schl teachers, we got talking and she saw my passion for education.

A week later, I got a call and she told me her husband was ready to help me get a job at the state ministry of education abeokuta.

I was in a dellema, just as you re Now though alittle different

But then, I learn the basis of career choice
1. The possibilities of personal growth and learning :

Today I read and have grown than I was years ago, because I have to learn to run a business.

I have met young people, entrepreneurs doing great things.
If I had gone for the ministry's job, I would have still resign or retired at old age and start this my business.
Why do I have to wait that long, when I can start now or then as the case may be.

2.the wealth creation option:
As a self employed person or business owner I determine my pay.
If you re in the govt sector, u can get some free money in terms of corruption,i don't think that's the kind of Nigeria you want.

3.job satisfaction:
is the govt job in your line of training, qualifications and passion and expertise.
If not run away!

4.job security: govt jobs gives security, but I prefer the risk

Modern day slavery is when people do jobs they do not like and get no satisfaction from.

why school owners must attend this one day training.

today, having a good building or edifice with colorful school uniforms are now obsolete, old fashioned and must be replaced with new modalities of approach.

the school business of the 21st century is dynamic and changing at a break neck speed.
- Being an educationist doesnot make you a successful school owner.
- Adopting a single curriculum religiously makes your school a second fiddle to parents who are savvy.

- the problems of the private school owner is totally different from those of the government schools. hence, school owners must unlearn the stale experiences garnered from working in government schools for decades.

all these and more are the need to attend the one day training.

the month of june and july is our anniversary month. hence the need to runs this training at this reduced cost. we believe we should make it covenient for every one to attend.
